Hi Guys,
just a quick question before breaking my Phone down ;-)
When I install the NoDo Update, do the Apps installed via XAP installer on a chevron unlocked phone stay working or will they stop working?
Is it possible to get back to the old WinPhone Version by completely resetting the device?
Thanks for your help!
Regards

Any sideloaded apps will be lost, since they're not tied to your zune/marketplace account. You will aslo not be able to load them again after updating until/unless a new hack comes along

This isn't entirely correct. The applications will remain on the phone, however the phone will relock itself rendering them useless.
you're right
i keep thinking of nodo-rom flashing
And what about custom ringtones (call and SMS) installed through the Chevron tools ? Will they stay on the phone ?

Yes, they stay. Even the Chevron Ringtone Installer still works if the phone if "officially" developer unlocked.
Great =D Thanks for the answer !
have a chevron unlocked focus and nodo. sideloaded apps work and still unlocked. make sure to prevent device relocking with samsung tools or registry edit
can confirm that sideloaded apps still working on my samsung omnia 7 with nodo
(had my device unlocked by chevron and did the prevent from unlocking hack before)
nodo update took about 15 minutes...
sideloaded apps still working after nodo on my optimus 7 too
Ditto on my Samsung Focus. Sideloaded apps still work fine. If you apply the registry change to prevent re-locking, it should persist across the upgrade and remain unlocked. You won't, however, be able to use Chevron to unlock it if you didn't do so before upgrading to NoDo.
HELP!!
It's not working for me! I just upgraded my focus to NoDo and now I can't unlock using Chevron! Help please. What can I do?
My Focus is still unlocked after NoDo. Sideloaded apps still work and I just deployed a XAP file to it and it works as well.

If I'm not mistaken, you needed to check the "Prevent Device Relocking" in Samsung tools before updating to NoDO. I don't think there is a way to unlock once you've upgraded. You could always revert to the backup from Zune and try again, this time making sure to check the option I've mentioned above. Somebody correct me if I"m wrong
I don't doubt there is some info here but i just cannot find it.
I downgraded to 2.3.2 and ran Gingerbreak to get rid of some bloat. All is fine but whenever i do an OTA update it goes through the whole process of finding and downloading the update, resets phone etc. All looks well but when it reboots after the four blue dots on the boot screen thing, it says software update failed. Has happened three times now.
Is there something i need to switch off etc? I dont really mind losing root with a PC update as long as dont get fifa, sims back etc.
Any ideas?
I think that the OTA update will fail if you have removed some bloatware... have you tried to restore everything you've removed before doing the update?
If I remember correct, after you run Gingerbreak, the first thing you should do is OTA update, THEN can you start remove bloatware. That's how I did anyway, and it worked.
1. After initiating Gingerbreak, DO NOT REMOVE BLOATWARE YET.
2. OTA first before removing unnecessary apps as the update will detect any tampering within the system/app directory and fail the update process.
3. When you update via PC Companion or Update Service, you lose root and at the same time you get all the bloatware back.
4. Update using OTA ONLY if you want to keep root after using Gingerbreak.
5. Next time, browse through threads, it will save you the trouble and the forums the clutter.
Thanks for the reply but it was not obvious about 'not removing bloatware'. I found threads with plenty of descriptions of the process; hell, I even used one to do it. But in none of them could I see a warning of removing the bloatware; in a few this was the tutorial for getting rid of the bloat.
As 2.3.4 is not available OTA does this mean I am basically stuffed? I only want to Root to get rid of Fifa, Sims etc. If I do the OTA to 2.3.3 (latest offered in the UK via OTA) then remove the Bloat, I am going to be unable to OTA to 2.3.4.
Is there any way of getting rid if these rubbish Sony apps without unlocking and still be able to update OTA when 2.3.4 comes out?
You could always redo the whole process of applying .184_UK => Gingerbreak => OTA to 2.3.4 then remove bloatware again.
...or use Titanium Backup to remove the bloatware, saving a backup of everything you remove and restoring it once you'd like to OTA update the next time. I haven't tried this but I suppose that would work too.
here's my opinion on your situation buddy.. for now, use gingerbreak to root then OTA to 2.3.3 xLoud. don't remove bloatware yet while we wait for 2.3.4. i didn't remove yet any bloatware from my phone because i'm waiting too since i rooted mine through gingerbreak.. why be bothered with bloatware? there has been a test somewhere showing no/little difference between stock and bloatware-removed Xperia PLAYs in terms of performance.. besides, android manages its ram very well unlike windows. android actually performs better if its RAM is nearly full. it's called pooling.
but if you're too bothered with the bloatware, you can always use titanium backup to freeze unwanted apps so you can unfreeze them when ota becomes available, saving you the trouble of repeating the whole process again.
as i said i havent removed bloatware yet because im waiting for 2.3.4 via ota, but believe me i've seen/experienced no significant decrease in overall performance. be patient buddy, it will serve you well.
PS: i don't trust that much the backup capabilities of TB.. i recommend you have a copy of all your apps under system/app and take note of what apps you remove so you can just manually bring them back via Root Explorer or so then set the permissions to rw-r--r--. i feel more confident when i do things manually.
Cheers guys. Now on 2.3.3 with root..I guess I will have to wait for the 2.3.4 OTA and mess with backups before removing the bloatware.
Your assistance, as always, has been invaluable. Thanks so much...
I've currently got my bloatware frozen, but I've also integrated updates into the system rom for updates to Maps, YouTube, etc.. will I likely have issues for OTA updating to 2.3.4? Not sure if it checks system app versions..
So I'm planning on rooting my LG G3 soon, (using PurpleDrake I suppose because TowelRoot doesn't work), and I will be installing Xposed after that. I will be keeping my stock recovery as well.
I want to keep my ability to update OTA however, and I know that there are issues with updating while rooted.
As such, will I be able to a) uninstall Xposed and then b) use SuperUser to hide root / or unroot somehow, and then c) accept the OTA
To make sure that no system files are touched, I plan on freezing any unwanted apps through TB (and unfreezing them before the OTA)
Will this work? Is it possible to unroot without having to wipe data?
It should yes long as system apps isn't overly modded. I plan on doing same as well as backing up system apps i mod and placing them back for ota
I don't have a G3 yet to verify..but we use 'boot unlocker' app to toggle root and tamper flag on N5.
Thanks for the responses guys! I wish that there was at least a small OTA update so that the people that are already rooted could actually test this.
Hi,
I just got my LG yesterday, and I rooted it via PurpleDrake.
Today, everyone once in a while, a pop-up comes up about LG's Software Update, asking me to update.
So, my question is this, will updating cause issues because of rooting?
Also, if so, how can I get rid of this stupid pop up asking me to update? [I did turn off OTAs, so I'm assuming this is not one?]
Thanks.
I doubt it is. For an OTA update as rooting your device will stop that happening, most likely an app update or something to do with lg agreements.

A software update can still attempt to install if you have not disabled OTA updates from your carrier somehow. Since you are rooted you should freeze the System updates process so it will not attempt to install the update and potentially remove root, or break something during the OTA install. This is not disabled automatically by just rooting, although some methods during root may also disable updates. I am not familiar enough with PurpleDrake to say if it does this or not. I do know that with IORoot you will still need to manually freeze the system update process.
I've gotten my phone bricked in the last two ota updates 4.6.6 & 4.6.3. Is there anyway to block the phone from automatically downloading and installing said future updates?
If you're rooted, backup, then go to ./system/app/ and delete otaverifier.apk
Will any problems come up later on due to this?
The phone won't be able to check for OTA updates, and, of course, it'll also be unable to retrieve them.
I Tried And its not working any other method?
