Worst April Fool's joke ever. You should have talked about the upcoming collaboration between Apple and Microsoft for iTunes-Zune combination player, iTunZ.

don't quit your day job.

Doesn't seem like anybody wants the feature-lite successor to the Kin, either. Otherwise, why would MS be hiding WP7 sales figures?

Because they've been admittedly poorer than they assumed they would have and because the general populace wants an iphone or something that can resemble an iphone because quite frankly they're all sheep.

This seems pretty real. At first i thaught it was a HD7 Chinese replica phone,
but in the top right corner it clearly says T-Mobile. I did google translate on
the page, and it says that it is a Chinese cooked ROM. I've read somewhere else
that the cellular functions (and multimedia = camera, music, videos) might not be
working yet, but judging by the current progress, it probably won't be long until
this project gets completed.

It's still pointless to turn ur WP7 power phone into a medicore Android phone with worse batterylife, except just for fun.
The guy did this because in mainland China HD7 is cheaper than HD2.

Well, ok, i somehow agree, but i still think that having an option to do such a thing
(out of fun or whatever ones wishes may be) is not bad at all
Therefore i give thumbs up for this project!
P.S.
If you ask me, I would rather prefer a port to WM 6.1 or 6.5...

Besides the really bad joke-telling skills of the OP (word choice and spelling can make or break a joke), it's obvious Android on WP7 will happen eventually.
I don't know WHY -- what's the point? -- but it will.

Windows Mobile 7 Series - On Rhodium??

I just seen a demo/preview of the Windows 7 Mobile Operating System and I must say it looks very nice (take a look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IOTrqlz4jo)
I am curious if it could be used on the TP2/Tilt2 devices once its release in November?? If so, I am very excited.
Does anyone have any insight on this??
Thanks!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611052
Until we can get a working version of 7 Series, I find this discussion pointless.
All we know is from one conference, and a bunch of videos demoing it.
From what we were told at the recent conference:
- Needs capacitative screen for multi-touch with at least four points of touch
- Needs 1Ghz processor or equivalent (the demo device had a Snapdragon)
- Accelerometer
- 5-mega-pixel camera
- FM Radio
- WVGA screen (480×800 not mentioned as a requirement, only WVGA)
- Every phone will have a Bing (search) button, Start button, and a back button.
What the Touch Pro2 is lacking:
- The 1Ghz speed
- Capacitative screen
- 5-mega-pixel camera
My guess is that it will not be a complete rewrite as history has shown time and time again. The restive screen code might still be there for some smart person to re-enable but I highly doubt that all the features of the OS will work through resistive. Also the screen size has not been listed as a requirement, only WVGA was stated. I know all current WVGA devices have a resolution of 480x800 but higher resolutions exist on paper. So at 480x800, is that enough?
My final thoughts: many will try but the screen and over all speed will be a major issue to deal with. If it does get ported to the TP2, the over all experience will be poor enough to fall back to a 6 Series OS.
i dont think it will be well received. it doesnt look like it runs any current windows mobile apps.
From looking at that youtube vid who cares if you can run it on a TP2! Why would I want to ?
Not very impressive. What's the bet it's the same old thing with a different gui ?

I couldn't help watching it and thinking "I don't see anything yet that I'm willing to pay $600 for." It looks nice, but I say wait and see how Microsoft turns it into a pile of crap...
Hey, maybe it'll come with glasses and be in 3D. Seems unlikely though.

I doubt very much that Windows Phone 7 Series will come to any older devices excpet for possibly the HTC HD2.
A big part is it requires a GPU for the animation, and unless WP7S has drivers for the TP2 (if the GPU is even good enough) your not gonna get anywhere.
Also Capacitive will be a stumbling block. There will be plenty of new phones out that will run it very well. So it will be a perfect time to upgrade to a CPU that is atleast 1Ghz.

As you've seen, Redmond anticipated your wish, and officially granted it a few days ago lol.
I should probably state my position on this a little better than I first did:
While I don't argue that this new OS is indeed advanced (perhaps even revolutionary), and seems quite capable at what it does...I still feel strongly that this is not the spiritual successor to the current evolutionary path of the windows mobile platform. I know that's why they played semantics with the marketing name, tagging it with the "7" as if it was the next logical step from 6.5...when in reality it's only a timely branding tie-in to the success of the desktop 7.
Let me put it this way...if the desktop 7 had been a flop, they would have called this new gadget The ZunePhone, because it's that much more than it is WinMo7.
Can I see a show of hands for who else is seriously concerned that what we love most about WM is not likely to be around for very much longer...? I know there's been remarks made that 6.5+ will still be supported, developed for, etc...but until I see some confirmed roadmaps and such, I still think the natural life expectancy of my platform of choice looks a lot more finite than it did a little over a week ago.
EDIT: Right after I wrote that, I found some news that makes me feel a little better about some of this

Actually, I'm old enough to think of a different comparison:
Years ago Coke came out with "New Coke" with a new taste -- more like Pepsi...and the backlash was so strong that they had to bring back the original recipe as "Coke Classic" in parallel with New Coke.
Unfortunately, I think MS is trying to attract the majority of potential customers who don't [think they] like WM...so they're coming out with something that's not WM.

I'm pretty sure that you'll be able to do this, from what I've read already. Plus, think about what you mean when it comes to multitasking because it means different things to different people.
STOP BELIEVING things that have no evidence behind them.
MS has NOT said that multitasking won't exist.
MS has NOT said that backwards compatibility won't exist.
MS has NOT said much more than the little said earlier this week. Stop believe what WMexperts has told you, it turns out MS was just taking you for a ride with those rumors.
Stop being an idiot and wait and see what happens when it comes to the release date.
You guys are basing your opinions on what you saw 8 months before the actual release of the product. THINK ABOUT IT. Just because your dumbass thinks this and that about a premature product, doesn't mean anything. STOP jumping to conclusions. It's really making you look dumb. MS is not going to sit there demoing a new product and talk about copy and paste. Why would they? Ohhhh, because SOOOOOO many people care about that in the world. I appreciate copy and paste and backwards compatibility just as everyone else does, but the truth of the matter is, you just don't know anything about Windows Phone 7.

Microsoft (re)confirms HTC HD2s won't run Windows Phone 7 operating system [zdnet]

Again!!
But its just a spokeperson.. so we can't track the source... wich makes it a rumor..
Who cares what someone says at microsoft......they keep saying "No No No" like Amy winehouse....... HD2 can support it with EASE.
The reason why they say "No" is that microsoft has promised manufactuers that NEW OS equals Great Sales.....extacly how they did with the VISTA series !!!
What ever I say to microsoft......they like it or not....WE WILL get WP7S on out HD2 phones.....I love XDA !
One of the main reasons I got the HD2 was that I thought it would be upgradeable... I'm still hoping that it'll happen, one way or another.
I'm passing on the HD2 just beacuse of this reason I got my TP2 and when the HD2 came out I said I would just wait to see what WM7 is going to look like before I upgrade. I'm glad I waited. Guess you guys should have done the same. No one nows if porting to the HD2 will be possible yet so I wouldn't get too excited.

Existing hardware on desktops is upgradeable and Microsoft even gave free updates for systems purchased within the months leading up to release.
It's funny how they still leave the door slightly open with their statement.
The first device that has WP7 on it (as long as it doesn't suck) I'll be buying. My Touch Pro is due for retirement.
if you have read the article you will clearly see that the Microsoft spokesperson said that they currently dont have plans to update the HD2...key word being currently. but WP7 wont be out until around christmas....so curruntly they may not have have an update, but by release time they might. sometimes u have to read in between the lines...its something they are deffinatley working on, because if they werent, they could just give a straight answer instead of beating around the bush.
as a owner of an hd2 I would he dissapointed but I am really positive about this for simple reasons. i may be wrong about this but still ill say my opinion .
as a lot of ppl have seen on YouTube there is a video of someone from Adobe with hd2 with flash 10.1 and a (new kind of IE) which according to me is available on wp7s (according to MS a renewed browser with pinch to zoom )
BTW the home button of hd2 can somehow be reprogramed as the search button.
ok on YouTube you see the start menu but you don't see him opening the browser.

I'm definitely waiting. I was thinking about upgrading to HD2 but I'll just stick with my Touch Pro2 til the holidays.
I've wanted the HD2 from the second I put my eyes on it. It's everything I wanted in a phone minus the slide out keyboard, but the screen size made me willing to bypass that. Then I saw Windows Phone 7 and realized I wanted it on my HD2. Not being able to have it on the HD2 is surely making me reevalutate my future purchase of the tmo HD2 which is released on 3/24.
I may not get the phone at all and I really find that to be a sad thing for myself, HTC, Microsoft and TMobile USA.
Not a huge disappointment. I love the HD2 the way it is. WM 6.5 with HTC Sense does a very nice job in everything I need and use the phone for.
What I don't need is a closed OS with a lot of eyecandy (well, one can argue about that) and xbox integration. Microsoft can state "everything what ppl care about directly at the homescreen" as often as they want. But what I actually care about is efficiency on how I can use the phone. And having big colored blocks on the screen for every possible program/contact/bookmark/pictures/appointment etc. is neither very efficient, nor very effective ...
So glad I didn't wait

Well... I should have waited for a good Android phone instead of the HD2.
I'm not at all interested in the dumb iPhone copycat OS that WP7S is. Good UI, but other than that, they've just copied Apple's bad bad policies (out of envy, I think).
I'm not going to adjust myself to an OS that doesn't multitask, doesn't let me install the stuff I want because of Marketplace censorship, doesn't let me manage my files on my own etc.
With Android, like WM6.5, I can have an OS that simply does what I want it to do. I don't have to adjust myself. That's how it should be.
Thus, the only regret I have is that I've not waited for a good Android phone, because WM6.5 is doomed and now nobody will develop anymore for it, whereas the quantity AND quality of the applications on Android has now surpassed Windows Mobile, and the OS itself is almost there.
I'm not sorry either... I change my phones every year - as flashy and useful and nice as they are, they don't last as long as $50 Nokia dumbphones did.
I use my HD2 very heavily and, apart from increased tear, this toy is much more important to me than a regular phone. As such, it absolutely needs to be the best toy around.
Also, the earlier I sell my phones, the more money I'll get.
I love it and enjoy using it for the most part, but by the end of the year I'm sure there will be devices available that I'll want more, and the love affair with HD2 will be pretty much a thing of the past.
Finally, even though I like what I see as regards to WP7, I'm not at all sure it will have the essential apps I need or that it will live up to the promise in its v.1 incarnation.
Android... I can't force myself to like either the OS or the phones carrying it. Yeah, they have multitasking and all, but I'm not buying a principle, I'm buying a phone.

So Android buyers buy a principle?! Nonsense... they buy Android phones. Simple as that.
And of course, they buy them because they prefer them to other phones.
And of course, Android's features are reasons to prefer Android phones to other phones - and multitasking, for example, is one of them.
I don't like Google, I don't like Java... but if Google's OS is the only one to suit my needs, then I buy a Google phone. Because I'm not buying a principle (i.e. not Google or not Java), I am buying a phone (i.e. the phone that does what I need it to do).

Oh, this is where the android fanboys went...

Wow, I've been reading through this forum after receiving my second WP7 device. I was an avid android user and built my own custom roms on there and never once did I come across one thing (despite people like Cyanogenmod who do amazing things) that ever came close to comparing the feel and the general UI of windows phone 7. Yes, android is great in the gaming department and being able to get ANY app free was nice but that novelty wears off and then what do you have except an ugly UI that's laggy and overdone. The multiple launchers were not a bad thing either, too bad almost all of them seemed like distros of eachother with one or two extra features. The best one I stumbled across was windows phone android which was a slow boring cheap imitation of the windows phone 7 metro UI. Ladies and gentlemen, we give you the best android can do. Really, should you base an entire UI on the fact that the game developers have invested more into android in 2 years than they have in WP7 in 3 months? We've progressed exponentially faster than android in these 3 months and are continuing to snowball. Oh, but you cant copy and paste or use your phone as a USB drive? Well, who needs to, I don't use my phone as a thumb drive, I have an 8 dollar flash drive for that. I use it as a multimedia device with live streaming video, slacker radio, and zune player, I use it as a camera with a quick draw camera that can go from locked to camera mode in the time it takes to pull it from your pocket. I use it as a web browsing device with a browser that despite the lack of flash has already functioned on more websites than androids ever did for me. I use it for gaming, seamless gaming, we may not have the quantity of games yet but I've always been a firm believer in quality over quantity. And most of all I use it as a phone, beautiful dialer, clear sound, and no hanging up with my face. I'm sorry that I dont have to use my phone as a disk drive, I dont find it necessary to put a new rom on my phone every 30 minutes just to get my phone fully functional. I have no need for it when I can just copy my multimedia files over. Copy and paste on a phone? Really how lazy are you... I mean seriously it's not hard to type and if you're handling word documents on your phone then let me introduce you to a laptop, it's portable and you dont have to look like a douchebag for typing on it for long periods of time. I do not get the hostility towards WP7 users aside from the fact that we are an obvious threat to that niche android has carved itself amongst the low-end device world. Android was great as a low-end device but I wanted to move on up to something a little more adult.
To argue windows phone 7 as a more adult platform is stupidity. Furthermore, to argue android as a low-end device is retarded. Android is an operating system, not a device. Diving even further into the matter, calling an open source platform anything short of amazing in today's society would be an understatment. To bash the flow of custom roms present on android is to say you don't expect more out of belittled hardware your holding in your very hands. Your saying having the same old ui on every windows phone 7 device you hold isn't a waste of perfectly capable hardware? You also argue android phones are limited to flashing custom roms to get the most out of your phone. Hmm..I know plenty of satisfied people, including my own mother, who are perfectly happy with their android phone stock. Bashing custom roms like they're a bad thing is destroying the foundation xda devlopers is even built on, it's heart and soul. We get it your happy with your purchase, cool. Move on with life no need to share your opinion on an openminded forum filled with trolls and geeks willing to dispute their case over and over and over. In all seriousness the Zune HD interface was mind-blowing, a phone based on that, again amazing. The thing that drags most every amazing ui and platform down is it not being open.
You also admitted to pirating apps in writing, and bashed custom roms you created? Hm..

Thanks for your input, as a once vibrant user I do apologize for any loss of sanity that may occur. The galaxy S series is just garish to anyone who really USES their phone as something more than a phone.
I'm looking at other phones to get rid of this one at the moment.
I'm even considering a Blackberry Bold 9780, that's how terrible my experience with this phone is.
After CES if nothing spectacular is coming out I'll open another line and then sell this one to ETF the other line, but keep my current SIM card (changing phone numbers yet again... will anger many people I know ).
I'm keeping up on WP7 because I like that they double up as Zune HDs. Unfortunately I don't think the devices out right now really scratch my itch.
My coworkers all hate me for getting Android phones banned on our Exchange server after I lost my first Vibrant and IT found out they didn't support Remote Wipe :<

Couldn't disagree more. From an everyday use point of view the galaxy s beats wp7 hands down. My wife disagrees of course - she loves her Optimus 7 (save for the lack of turn by turn nav). Point is everyone has different expectations from there phone.
Surely a "grown up" wp7 user like yourself can understand that .

Are there a lot of adults out there who feel the need to carry their Xbox avatars in their pockets?
Because according to Microsoft's own ad campaign, playing Xbox games without getting in trouble is the "best" part of the phone.

How adult.
@Radeon, I completely agree on the part where each of us have different needs, my comment was more directed at the hostility surrounding our forum by android users. If I wanted to attack an OS without reason I'd hit iphone.
@Greenbird, I've stated time and time again that Microsofts ad-campaign managers need to be taken out back and bludgeoned to death with iphones (so that garbage can get some kind of use) My original impression of the HD7 thanks to them was, "Oh joy, It's a 4.3 inch screen and 1 gHz processor that is meant to be taken out of my pocket for about 5 seconds to swipe and check my updates then go. It seemed completely impractical. They undersell the UI in every ad and it's completely nonsensical. I do enjoy the occasional game of fruit ninja but I can honestly say this is the only phone ive had since before Windows mobile 2003 that I didnt feel it was necessary for me to install third party apps to make the phone great.

nah, more like we don't have to tweak and cook roms just to make our phones work "ok" much less at an optimized pace like WP7 phones operate at. If I still want to tweak I have my WM6.5 device. But no thanks, finally found a phone that WORKS. ;-)

But what does it do? Zune, Xbox, email, and Facebook?
Wow. Where do I sign up?
Everyone has their own expectation for their daily use phone. Some only want to use the phone to make calls and SMS, some might use the phone to its full potential like email, surf, social networking and even games.
But there is an important fact that we need to aware of, there are phone savvy users and "idiot" users. A savvy user will expect more from their daily used phone and they will never satisfy with the performance of the phone. A very good example, i have both Galaxy S and Omnia 7. The problem is i am always looking forward in flashing new ROMs for my Galaxy S in order to achieve better performance. I would say its a never ending story until nobody releases new ROMs. For non savvy user, they will never know what's good or bad, as long as they can make calls and SMS, they will be satisfied. Most importantly, a 70 year old user is also able to adapt to the phone easily.
Therefore, i would say MS has done a good job in WP7, a very solid platform. No whatsoever performance issue. Hence its definitely a very powerful platform catering to non savvy user.
It has nothing to do with being tech savvy or not. I mean read your statement. You flash roms to improve your performance and yet you say wp7 has no performance issues. Androids success relies solely on its developers because there is nothing pleasant about the UI or social integration. The market is the only thing that sales Android. The os itself is a letdown at best.

And Android does what? Pirated apps, Wifi hotspot and plenty of lags and crashes? I'm duly impressed.

+1. The dev. support that Android has it what makes it MUCH better than it is in stock form. WM6 has more capabilities than Android, just less developer support and worse advertising. Android phones got great hype from Verizon (the Droids) and T-Mobile, so that's where it won half the battle; by getting people excited for it. And yet WM6.5 devices can still own Android devices in every way possible. Does the general public know this? Nope...they just buy what they're told like the sheep they are.

Window phone mango 500+ Features.

So everyone, I have mango loading in my HTC HD7. Microsoft claimed that there are more than 500+ features, but so far I only see like 10 of them. Where are the rest?

Actually.. he's kinda right.. I know that the improvements are said to be 500. Okay, and this includes a thousand of news inside the system, wich we can't see, just in the future.
But i'm curious about all 500 features.

I think too, no more like 10 features. MS lie, about 500+. AND WP7 will be epic fail. Time will go on, another OS (android, iOS) to go for really upgrade, but WP7 stupid at MS lie.

I know this very well. Because next year, WP7 is going to compete not with iOS 5, but with iOS 6. And with Ice Cream Sandwich. So MS should think straight and have some cards hidden in the sleeves, because Tango may be fine, but they need Apollo since this year, and Mango since LAST year.
Even more now with "Googlerola".

Ok. BUT MS have not some very important functions in WP7 still . All world wait it "important functions" in Mango. Expectations of many people were not met.

Mango is already out there. And to be honest, I dont think it was a mistaken leak. I think Microsoft intentionally leaked it. Anyone can install, like Apple jailbreak. You can just go ahead and read some tutorials. It's no hard.
Right now, I have mango, in Portuguese, running perfectly smooth. I don't need to use third party apps to Facebook, MSN, Twitter, LinkedIn. And most importand than have their own apps, it's integrated with the system and working better than any iOS/Android app would do.
It doesnt have customizations indeed, but who cares? Thread message is sexy, notifications are pretty nice, though it have some flaws. The keyboard is LOT better than Android's, even if its not swype. Tiles simply rocks, fast app switch could be better, but its better than Android too.
The user experience is a lot better overall.

I count all of these features and they are still less than 100. It is still far from 500.
Most of the features are ones we do not see. Bug fixes, API updates, developer hooks and plug-ins, tons of stuff that we cannot physically touch or play with. That is until a developer takes advantage of the new features.
Once Mango comes out, you'll see much better apps on the platform, ones that are able to take advantage of many of 500 new features that Windows Phone Mango brings.
And that haters continue to hate for the sake of hating. Would you rather support the socially irresponsible company that makes overpriced under spec'd hardware and makes record profits while making NO charitable donations or even trying to help people in need, even those hurt in their own factories?!

You are going off topic. Asking question about something is not the same as hating it.

that's politics. Your statement contains absolutely no content. You can easily replace MS with any other competitor and WP7 or Mango with any other OS.
what important functions?
what expectations?
many people? what does that mean? there are many people who don't like Android or iOS
if you want to make a statement then you need to use some facts. If you can't do that then you need to research. Otherwise I have to say that your post is off topic. Look at other posts in this thread in which the posters actually contributed something to the topic and the original post.

Any Android sucks logo's I can use as forum signature?

Hey guys, I've been looking everywhere on XDA and on bing but cannot find any forum icons or signatures to use. I'm looking for broken android robots or something to show that I can't stand android. Since this is the WP forum, obviously I'm all for WP and would love to see a windows logo eating the android robot or something. I don't care I just want to find something to represent my opinion on this. If anyone has any suggestions I would very much appreciate it. I've been searching all yesterday, late last night and all today but still have found nothing.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions, thankyou very much.
Doubt it, most of us aren't so petty.

What forum are you talking about? Xda was originally a Windows Mobile forum (PocketPC) http://web.archive.org/web/20060508163548/http://forum.xda-developers.com/front_page.php

In a sense, Android is everything WinMo could have and should have been. Android is like a perfected and fully supported WinMo. Where MS was lazy or lackluster about fostering WinMo, Google is doing the opposite with Android.

I disagree. Microsoft naturally progressed into quality. Winmo made a great PDA but it, like android, simply didn't make for a good phone. Wp7 chose user experience. Android chose pocket PC.

While true, I have to admit that I have never seen a WM/PocketPC device. First mobile windows OS I saw was WP7 in a local store, loved it and bought the omnia 7. The salesman tried to tell me that android is better and tried to sell me a galaxy s, almost bought it but then it crashed while he was showing it... Haven't regretted choosing wp7 over android. I know some android fanboys who have jumped over to wp7 after seeing my omnia 7...

LOL...I had a similar experience when I took my HTC Inspire to a local AT&T to have them look at a compass issue. The lady serving me owned an Inspire and attempted to install a compass from the market to see if her Inspire would do what mine was doing. She couldn't do it because her Inspire froze up while trying to install a compass and she had to borrow someone else's Inspire.
WP7 is the sweet one, for sure. To me it's a work of art. But I can't wait for MS to get behind it like they did with the XBOX and like Google does with Android. If and when MS does that, the competition will quake and shiver in fear.
Android isn't the problem....it's the certain fandroids that ruin it...

nor do I, I don't see it developing quickly. Gingerbread brought little more than a pallet swap, the last truly big update was eclair, and ICS still lags like crazy even on the flagship.

ICS doesnt include hardware acceleration outside of the browser. That was a rumor that originated here on XDA. Compared to the competitors it's downright sluggish

That's cool. Like I say, Google stands behind Android and supports it. People like Steve Woz and that WP7 dude who left for Google know where the progress is being made. Interesting times.
