NoDo on Bell Canada: Got it! - Windows Phone 7 Development and Hacking

Just wanted to share, I tried numerous procedures to get NoDo on my AT&T Focus on Bell Canada and finally got it! Forget the VPN to Hungary! Here's how I got it:
1 - Start the Zune software
2 - Turn off both Data Connection and Wi-Fi on your Phone
3 - Connect your phone to your PC via the USB cable
4 - Search for the update in Zune
5 - 2 seconds later, disconnect your PC from the internet. The way I did it (Windows 7) was by going to Start > Network > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings > click once on your adapter > press the Disable this network device button in the toolbar. So you basically start the update process as mentionned in Step 4, and by the time you move your mouse over to this button, it will be time to press on it
6 - Bingo! Zune should find the NoDo-Update
7 - Connect to the internet again and install the update
8 - Within Zune, press the button to upgrade
Procedure took roughly 20 mins to complete.
Hope this helps some fellow Canadians!
Hope you'll enjoy it!

Blackberry Connect WORKING on 8525 and new Official ATT WM6 ROM (uncooked)

Ok FINE! After being ignored for two days, I thought I would help the New folks out here get this working!
I got it working and all is FINE! Here is what I did. I will not post links so I do not violate any sort of TOS in this site.
After I upgraded to the new ROM from HTC's site (the official ATT ROM not anything cooked) I upgraded my Activesync to 4.5 (must have this version)
Then I downloaded BBC Desktop 4.0.0.18 (google it)
Then I downloaded BBC for the PPC 4.0.0.91 (google it)
Install the Desktop stuff first then the one on the PPC. Once installed, REMOVE THE USB.
Once it is installed on the PPC, let it is come up on it's own. If it does not reboot it, go to Start -> Setting and click on the System tab. Click the BB icon. It will ask what services, select Cal for now. Click Next through until is restarts. It will then tell you that it is ready for first use. From there, you may need to reboot your device.
You should now have the BB icon in the bottom part of the Today screen. Click it. It will take you the BB settings sections. Let it spool and get a PIN. This may take several minutes. You will then notice it connects and gets an IP. You are almost home at this point. Once it says Connected in the Status tab you are good to connect it back to the USB cord.
For BES applications, make sure the computer you use for work is connected to your MS Server or network or whatever you do to ensure you are getting emails on your work computer. This will ensure your BB Desktop software can "see" your server. Once you know you have "LAN" connection, open the BBC Desktop software and let it find your device. Click on the "Configure Device" button on the bottom center of the BBC Desktop app and VIOLA!
I hope this helps!
I am not able to find BBC Desktop 4.0.0.18 version even after googling , just to make sure is it 4.0.0.18 or 4.0.0.84. Is this desktop component mandatory , can i skip it . I am new to all this. My company gave me a number to call to activate the service . It was a sort of *56436 ;just an example. But i cant call this number as i have AT&T service , it says check the number.May be this number is callabe from a blackberry device ? Please let me know if you are aware what setup they have.
I have At&T unlimited data plan . Do i need to switch to BIS plan from them .Is 3G internet available on BIS. My company asked me to add my company email (and provided me with a temporary password) and asked me to click on activate button . does this mean they have Black berry Enterprise server ?
The BB network is available on my phone but the PIN and IP are pending. Is this due to taht i dont have BIS enabled from them?

Connect to a Wi-Fi network or connect your phone to your PC to complete the download

Anyone have any experience with this?
From what I've read, if an app is over 20mb it will not download using the cellular data service and instead insist you use wifi, or plug in to the PC.
But what do you do when you do not have WiFi available? It says 'Connect to a Wi-Fi network or connect your phone to your PC to complete the download' - but it does nothing when it's plugged in to the computer. Can leave it plugged in to the PC, with it synced to Zune (or not) for 30 minutes and nothing happens to the download, even if it's initiated in Zune.
Is there something I'm missing here? Is there something I'm supposed to tell it to do when it's plugged in to the PC? When it's synced with Zune you can't access the marketplace on the phone, and there's no 'Download Status' in Zune. As far as I can tell, Zune's not trying to download the app.
Basically, I'm trying to use option B - 'or connect to a PC', as there is no Wi-Fi network at my home or for miles. I'm aware of the bug where you can start it on Wi-Fi and let if finish using cellular data, but I shouldn't have to drive 20 minutes to Starbucks every time I want to download a larger app when the error message even indicates there's another option.
Any Zune / WP7 gurus here that can help with this? I'm an Android guy and a little lost when it comes to Zune/WP7, it's my gf's phone
I think you just have to go to the item, long press to get to the context menu, and then hit retry. I don't think it automatically attempts again once the network connection changes.

Done that. With these large apps (over 20mb) it repeatedly does the same thing. It's got 3g the whole time - it just refuses to use it to download it using 3g. It will say pending for a moment when you hit retry, and then give that error until you connect it to WiFi, at which point you can retry and it will download. So far the only way I've successfully downloaded apps of this type (monopoly, need for speed, etc) is using a wi-fi connection at a public location.
I'm trying to figure out how to do it the other way the error message claims is possible - connecting it to a PC.
Yeah, I just spent some time trying it out with my wifi off. Doesn't seem to be cooperating...
May want to try the Windows Phone support Twitter tomorrow: http://twitter.com/#!/winphonesupport
There has to be a way, it would be pretty damn ridiculous if it actually required wifi.

Tweeted it just now w/ a link to this thread. But I'm not a twitter guy, I have an account, not really sure how it works and don't ever log in to it. So we'll see where that leads me.

If you dont hear anything from them, may want to try tomorrow during business hours.
You should be able to go into the marketplace via Zune and click on the app. Click to install and then it will instruct you to connect your device. It should download and install to the device. Give it ample time to do so as it's not immediate, of course.
At this time, Wifi is required to download apps bigger than 20MB.
I could never ever get an app to update via synching with the Zune software after many tries. I just had to do the download over Wifi.
What I got from my conversation from @WinPhoneSupport is that if you start the download on the phone (not through the Zune software on your computer), you MUST complete it using WiFi, even though the error message says 'or connect it to a PC'. They somewhat hinted that it's possible to download an app through the zune software on the PC, didn't really go into too much on that side of things, but also confirmed that there's no way to check the status of a download in the Zune software. Sooo, you're supposed to just plug in the phone, and blindly guess when the download is complete, and if you're wrong, you've got to go find a Wi-Fi network.
One thing you could try... no promises... but (at least on Zune HD) when you connect the device to your PC via a USB cable (but close the Zune software) the device will get an Internet connection from the PC. This is done via some USB standard whose name I can't remember. It only works if the Zune software is closed.
This might work on WP7 and give you phone an Internet connection via USB. You could then go to the downloads list on your phone, tap and hold on the download that's frozen, cancel it. And then search it again and try to download.

I tried that but when I closed Zune it started looking for drivers and couldn't find any. No clue where to download them. Windows 7 32bit.
With your phone connected to your PC, search for the app thru the Zune marketplace (on the PC). When you download it with the PC, it will go straight to your phone.
Tried that as well but since theres no download status theres no way to tell when the app Is finished/installed, no.way to tell how large the file is and if it is downloading at 2kbps or 250kbps,.so you've got to blindly guess when its done and lf youre wrong and disconnect it you've got to start all over.
Tried downloading the monopoly trial using that method on a pc w a 20mbps connection, no way to tell if it was even downloading, it just said it would appear on the phone shortly. After 20 min the phone was disconnected, checked the marketplace and monopoly was sitting there in downloads w the error message

[Q] Allshreplay does not work

My problem is the connection to my pc in the allshare play app on my note 2 is always grayed out, and when i press on it says;
"unable to connect to the device. Check the connection status."
The same issue whether I am using Windows 7 or 8 and I tried the following method but no use. The strange thing is when I click on nearby devices from my note, my PC appears in the list, however, it shows empty content.

Hey out there I finally got the allshare play to work after spending most of 2 days pulling my hair I called Samsung
We've got the new Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGS3) so we've tested it on 2 seperate units. Maybe it also works on other models.
I order for allshare to work proberly you need to assure that your pc or SGS3 isnt running any background internet application like downloading torrents, updating Win or other bandwith stuff..
So if you follow theese steps it should work (it worked for me and my wife)
1: Take your SGS3 and goto settings -> programmanager -> press the ALL tab
Now go in to all that have allshare in it. Like "Allshare controller", "Allshare play"... Anything with "allshare" in front press it and then press clear data and/or clear cache.
2. Take your SGS3 and goto settings -> accounts and syncronising -> press the one with your samsung account and press remove account
3. Goto "Allshareplay.com" (on your pc) and log in. Press settings (top right) -> press Registered devices (top left). Remove ALL your registrered devices. LOG OFF and LOG IN again. Goto Registered devices once more and register your pc FIRST!!!!
4. Take your SGS3 and run allshare play. Log in. Register your SGS3 and voila your allshare works :good:

What I can do to fix the problem? Thanks in advance.
If nobody is able to help me, can anybody tell me whether the app is working for them and on which platform?

Info on the Marshmallow update for Turbo 2

I had a little chat with "ASHLEY" from Verizon's Live Chat. Apparently (and she told me this after i factory reset my phone) the marshmallow update is getting little patches so that everyone's phone is prepared... a little annoying since i almost got to installing but i had to take my phone off Wi-Fi for 6 1/2 hours while i was at school, and so the update i would've gotten was canceled by verizon or something... I even had downloaded part of it.
Just a little FYI.
Thank you for the update. I just picked up the phone. I deferred the update when I set up the phone and now I can't get the download back. Now, I most likely know why. I'll wait a day or two. If I can't get the update back, I'll hard reset the phone. Sighs...

Verizon's Twitter support just confirmed a hold on the marshmallow update. Any exact date then?
I had the OTA update notification on Friday but no wi-fi at work. Got home and the download failed and then got software up to date when checking on the phone. Plugged the phone into my pc Saturday night and the Verizon Wireless Software Update popped up saying an update was available. In less than 20 minutes I was good to go.

Except my device NEVER wants to pop-up on the software upgrade assistant, and it's on MTP mode. Any help with that? I'm on Windows 10 too.

Some have reported the the Verizon software update assistant works if you connect your phone to your pc/laptop via USB 2.0 -- but not USB 3.0. That didn't make a difference for me. We've got 3 Turbo 2's: two of them got both updates successfully OTA. One of them never got it OTA, and still gets nothing when we check for updates. I've tried connecting that third DT2 to my laptop and using the software update assistant - with the phone connected at different times to each of the 4 USB ports on my laptop (3 of them are USB 3.0, 1 is USB 2.0), and I've toggled MTP mode on and off, but no joy: the update assistant never recognizes the phone. However the laptop does, indeed, recognize the phone, and lets me open a file browser window and look at files on the SD card.
Only variable I'm not confident about here: when I connect the phone to the laptop, there's the typical Windows popup that asks what I want to do when this device (the phone) is connected to the laptop. Note: the update assistant is NOT offered: just typical options such as, "transfer media files to PC". Not sure which to accept, I've ignored that prompt -- wondering if perhaps I need to select one of these options in order to complete the MTP connection properly?

None of my USB ports work. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything, with no results. Unless there is a manual solution available, I guess I'll have to wait through this 2nd straight Verizon branded false alarm.

You can run it and check for updates manually once it's installed. Just to be clear, when my phone is connected to my pc if I pull down the notification menu on my phone and tap the usb notification there is an option to install software that, when checked, adds a cd installer in windows explorer on the pc to install the Software Update and Repair assistant. @jonstrong I just ignore the pc popup or select take no action.

I had similar issues, I installed SUA on my laptop and it would not detect the phone. Installed it on my desktop and it recognized the phone. Both are running Windows 10.
What cords are you using to connect? Sometimes that can make a difference.

Doesn't matter what cord I have, won't detect. I'm screwed at this rate.
I can not get the Software Upgrade Assistance (SUA) to work on my Desktop PC but was able to get it to work on my wife's Desktop PC. I tried on my laptop and found that the Verizon Software Upgrade Assistance (SUA) works (recognizes the phone) on the laptop's USB2 ports but will not work on the USB3 ports. My wife's PC has USB2 ports and My PC has USB3 ports. All the above computers are running Windows 10.
Based on my testing, it appears that the Verizon Software Upgrade Assistance (SUA) does not work with USB3 ports.
Try using a PC or laptop with USB2 ports.

make sure that your phone does not have USB debugging on. Also make sure you are using OEM cable (from any brand really). COnnect to a USB 2 por and go to www.motorola.com/verizonsoftwareupdatewin (if you have a windows computer) or replace win with mac
Download, install, and run software assistant... unplug your droid turbo 2 a couple of times until the software sees it... then it should work

1. my signature is old... lol
2. don't let your phone lock/ go to sleep while it is downloading
For anyone who's still having trouble getting the update on their Droid Turbo 2 - my experience might be worthwhile knowing about:
We've got three DT2's (would have been four, but my son opted for an iPhone). The first two were offered the update when the first big wave came around - before they shut it down a second time; we accepted the 2 step update for those two phones, and they were both successfully updated to Marshmallow over a week ago. The third DT2 however never got the offer, and punching "check for updates" never found the update either -- even as recently as today, March 19.
I had tried connecting the third phone to my laptop via USB -- and made sure to use the USB 2.0 port on my laptop (the other three USB ports are USB 3.0), and made sure the phone was set to MTP mode. Still no joy. Never offered the "CD Install" option on the phone, even though I had checked both MTP mode and Software install on the phone under USB options.
Finally this evening I tried the same on a different laptop, and tried a different USB cable as well. This time, the phone actually offered the CD install option, and was able to prompt the laptop to download and install the Verizon Software Upgrade Assistant (VSUA). It was till touch and go for a while: once I fired up the assistant, it still didn't seem to recognize the phone the first several times I tried it. Finally -- I let it sit for a couple of minutes with the VSAU loaded and the phone plugged into the laptop, and this time the phone showed up in the Upgrade window. I selected it and clicked on the upgrade button. I was amazed at how long the download took, as I remembered the "1 of 2" upgrade being pretty small -- with the 2 of 2 being the 1.1GB file.
Finally - the download completed, and the update began. That also took a long time, but I could see the progress indication, so I was encouraged. In the end, this single upgrade completed, and then the Android "upgrading" process began for what I recall to be 40 programs (probably what my daughter had installed on her phone) -- again -- I was surprised at how slow this was, but I made a point of NOT disturbing it.
Anyway - it finished, rebooted, and after this SINGLE update, the phone was all the up to the latest update for 6.0 for the DT2 -- the same version I'm at after doing the 1 of 2 and 2 of 2 updates the week before last -- 24.24.11 kinzie_verizon.verizon.en.US . It seems that the VSUA got my daughter's phone there with a single update -- something that surprised me. Maybe there's a new update file out there that does this in a single pass? Don't know.
But -- the take away for anyone still frustrated by not getting the update yet should be: you probably CAN get it, if you're patient enough, and are willing to try a couple of different cables, and possibly different PC's (one of my laptops couldn't deliver the update, but another was somehow able). Seems that it's still on their servers waiting to be downloaded, and VSUA can actually function if you somehow get the magical combo of computer, USB 2.0 port, proper cable, and LOTS of patience and willingness to try something repeatedly.
Jon
Well I Finally managed to get the VWSUA going on an older computer. Upgrade in progress...
Upgrade complete. I'm now on Marshmallow. Thank you all.

Need help on my Galaxy Watch 46mm (R800) - won't connect to bluetooth

i recently switch phones from my Honor View10 to Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro 5G. The former phone is where i used to use and the first phone my Galaxy Watch ever paired with. However, when trying to set it up on my new phone (the Mi 10 Pro 5G), it just won't connect at all. i did went to the Watch's settings and select the "Connect to a new phone" option that wipes the data on the Watch. i tried several walk through i could ever see and think of, but to no avail. Here are what i have tried aside from the settings part:
- Manually pair the Watch via the Phone's Bluetooth - apparently the Watch did manage to pair, but just won't stay connected, it automatically disconnects immediately after connecting (see attached pic)
- Allowed all the Wear App and the Galaxy Watch Plugin's permissions on the Phone
- Factory Reset the Watch via the Recovery option
- Reflashed the Watch's firmware via this thread and sourced the missing firmware files from this thread
the Watch remains stuck on the "Check your phone to complete setup" screen for several days now, and i'm starting to get frustrated over this. Before reflashing the firmware, i tried to reconnect the watch to my old Honor View10 phone, and it no longer connects there too! same issue with Bluetooth connection dropping as soon as it connects.
help is very much appreciated.
Edit: somehow the attached files keep getting missing (404), so here's the imgur link for them: https://imgur.com/gallery/QOgPY0J
