[Q] Best messenger app? - Defy General

Hi, I've been trying several messenger apps with no success, so I'd like to know if you can recommend me something, I tried MSN Pro Talk, but most of the times, after I initiate a conversation and change to another app, when I go back to MSN, I cannot see anything that the other person is writting, don't know why; Fring displays ads on the app itself, so is discarded; I like eBuddy, however, it saves the eBuddy account password......and I don't want someone else entering in my account if they are playing with the phone; meebo interface is really ugly; Nimbuzz is slow and seems like consuming a lot of battery :/ any suggestion? thanks!

I use MSN Talk Pro...
Like it, but must to upgrade.

i find Frings the best, but then again, it's just me. Ads are ok since you're using the stuffs for free!

Have you teu mercury? It work just fine here and its free.

I will try Mercury, and if does not work, I guess I'll stick with Nimbuzz, it's almost perfect, do you know if it does actually consume more battery? thanks!

I use eBuddy. Never had any problems with it plus it allows multiple accounts/types of accounts to be online at same time

I also use ebuddy, but it is far from perfect for my taste. I still haven't found a messenger that fits my needs and I will try mercury later today and report back here!

I like Trillian, it's worth it's price.

Gtalk with hot-chilli MSN transport

Try imo (from imo.im), clean interface, logs, low resources, and very easy to use. MSN, Yahoo, AIM/ICQ, Google Talk, MySpace, Skype, Facebook and Jabber.
I have tried Nimbuzz, eBuddy, IM+, Meebo, Fring and Mercury, imo is the best (for me). Using gtalk, msn, skype and facebook chats.

I use IM+, Mercury, but almost the time GTalk

Trillian is great although it costs. Well worth it in my opinion though.
It works very well with the desktop client too which I have been using for years, if your pc recognises you as afk it will divert messages to the phone client, if you return to your pc they are auto diverted to the pc again. Its pretty seamless and ive been very impressed so far.

Imo chat beta... simply the best!

Yahoo Messenger App?

Hello all,
I use Yahoo Messenger a lot and would like to be able to use it effectively on the move. Yahoo Mobile is functional but quite pathetic and compared to Windows Messenger built into the Touch HD, it is postively stone-age.
I have tried a program called Palringo which does MSN and Yahoo but it tends to muck up the screen fade and screen lock function of the phone and it refuses to lock itself after the specific timeout period so it is not something I'd like to use as staple.
Has anyone got any suggestions?
try nimbuzz or eqo messenger

Skype

What options do I have for Skype on my desire? I want to do the obvious calls but SMS would be good too.
There is a 'skype beta lite' app that you can google and although it is clean I could'nt get it to take my number in the UK.
I've found the skype in the 'Fring' app to do it the best so far.
Nimbuzz should have it as well, I think. And the tests which I read (androidpit dot de - German only) said that Fring is clearly inferior to Nimbuzz.
another nimbuzz vote here
Will try nimbuzz as fring is useless for me, it diesn't let you add contacts on the fly and I can't even make calls because the speaker shuts off!
Let me know how you get on with Nimbuzz. I tried Fring and the call quality was poor, with a audio delay on top of it.
Installed and tried Nimbuzz. Sound quality is better than on Fring.
BTW: anybody knows if and how you can delete a fring account?
Traffic?
Does anyone have an idea about the amount of bandwidth/traffic skype uses? Like for one minute? I'm on a 200MB per month plan...

GREAT! Sounds so much better then fring!
Nimbuzz seems to give my Desire problems ... keeps going slow, random reboot, never happened before, uninstalled and all is fine ... also it never seemed to work anyway!
strange. work fine here even prior to the latest update.
Nimbuzz working perfectly for all things and Skype now. For some reason though it finds it quite hard to connect sometimes, especially on a low connection where Fring seems to work either way.
Quite annoying on Nimbuzz where if Skype (or any of the accounts) does not connect first time there is no option to retry just delete the account.
Did you try Fring?

I noticed that too. also noticed my battery was draining alot quicker than usual - even after exiting the application.
And sometimes even when the app isnt running, I get an error message saying it's crashed and needs to be closed. This happens mainly when ever i turn wifi on/off.
anyone know an app that does group chat on skype?

I don't use wi-fi but had generally the same issues. It brought my phone in some cases to a halt!
Is there any "Skype" app or other app that can be used to use Skype account for calling non-skype landlines / mobile phones ?
Paid calls using Skype credits ... via Android.
I tried Nimbuzz, but it cant ... yes, Nimbuzz is not Skype client, this is obvious.
My only hope is "NimbuzzOut":
http://www.nimbuzz.com/en/nimbuzzout
But then again, there is no Android client still
Yes, Fring on Android can use Skypeout, so skype credits or any other SIP like voicebuster.
Haven't personally checked it but a friend tried it already and it works

[Q] Skype for Android?

Is there any way to get skype on our Galaxy S? I understand that currently, only Verizon Android phones are given this privilege, but i hope we can get it too.
Try nimbuzz, it gives you limited access to you skype
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
there is a skype lite pack for android that works fine for text but no calls.
I'd really like to here about this aswell. Hopefully Skype will port there iOS app to android. The iOS app is amazing just a shame we're missing out
too bad verizon locked all other android users out from using skype... such a shame... i guess gtalk + fring will have to do for now...

Can you clarify for me, I looked at Nimbuzz on AppBrain and on their blog. To me, it appears like they don't actually access your skype, it seems like it will allow you to contact your skype friends, but they didn't go so far as to imply they could contact you the same way.
Am I wrong? Thanks.

Nimbuzz logs into your Skype account, so it works just like regular Skype. Except with no video chat or group chats.
Tried nimbuzz yesterday and it drained my battery really quick.
Had about 30% left, nimbuzz was connected about 2 hours trough wifi and battery dropped to 10%, not good...

[Q] Google Gmail Chat

Is there really no way to use gmail chat on WP7?
I've tried going straight to the website but that's inconvenient and that messenger by miyowaka is not good unless I have friends on windows live.
Anyway to do this? Any app in the works?
Would be grateful with any info as my workplace just banned gchat.
Even I am looking for a chat software to make my WP7 running to my use. In the mobile OS war, the key thing now is about Social network integration. Facebook is integrated well. However Twitter, gtalk, facebook chat all are missing. Moreover even facebook and twitter notifications are not there. Do we ever get a chat feature in WP7 ? There are lot of Questions on mind than the UI as its the only thing which attracts me.
So, any update on this anyone?
There are 2 Gtalk apps for WP7:
- Flory Messenger (free)
- Jabber Talk (not free)
I prefer Flory because is free and has support for Facebook chat too.
talk google
Flory turned me off right away due to a sign up process. It seemed required almost though due to the way they do XMPP.
I used JabberTalk once or twice but it's very simplistic and after logging in I got a "You might be haxed here's the IP!" alert from Google that may or may not be related. It may be that they have to use a XMPP gateway of sorts so you're not without this middleman which would explain the behavior I saw. It's also possible that this was entirely coincidental and just happened to happen in the exact week I used it.
The likely course of action is if no one will, I'll go for a clone of the unofficial official MSN app (Messenger by Miyowa). The way this handles MSN is almost flawless from a chat app goes but I may give Flory a try if it's closer to a 1:1.

Best Messenger Apps On Windows Phone 7?

im used to palringo on my htc touch pro 2 and im hoping they bring that over to wp7, it had a option to leave u logged into aim, yahoo, msn, facebook chat, and a few other services as soon as u turned the phone on and it ran in the background and gave u notifications whenever a new message had arrived
is there anything close to this or any good messenger applications in the windows marketplace that you guys have tried out? anything for facebook chat?
how do the messenger apps work on wp7? are they leaving u logged in and notifying u when u receive new messages or when u exit the messenger app it signs u out and closes whatever messenger service you're using since multitasking would be required for this??
I think there is no all in one messenger app,it is all separated.
MSN- messenger by miyowa
facebook chat and google talk- you can try (flory)
hope this help...cheers
It looks like there won't be an official Microsoft Messenger client.
Microsoft apparently asked Miyowa to write one on their behalf
http://blog.miyowa.com/
I expect in the future, there will be a good multi-protocol client like I had in IM+ on the iPhone.

This statement has been made invalid like a thousand times already. In an interview at CES someone at Microsoft said they had plans for a client but just not right now (pocketnow has the interview somewhere).
If Miyowa was working on behalf of Microsoft like they claim, they wouldn't have their name in the app title (e.g. the facebook app), not to mention it wouldn't be that crap.

how do the messenger apps work on wp7 do they run in the background or do they close out when u leave the app?

It closes when you leave the app. For certain applications, a remote server will keep your connection to the service alive and send any received messages to you via push notifications. Same as on iOS pretty much.
IM+ will be the best when it comes out.

Answer to your question is there is no good IM app for WP7. It's an area that's sorely lacking unfortunately.
ive read there was recently a update with flory im is anyone using that how is it? how is it for receiving messages when you're outside of the application? do you still receive messages when u leave the app with this new update?
Yes, it remains active in background. Just check Stay logged and Run under lockscreen in settings. You will receive notifications just like messaging.

Nothing beats Windows Live for Windows Mobile on that OS. Loved it, especially the Push Email for Hotmail...
And integrated presence status in contacts app.
Windows Live really was a thing of beauty. Felt just like Windows Live on my pc.
It would be really nice if Microsoft would do one just like that. The only problem for me is all my friends are on Whatsapp now. I keep trying to get them to go over to an msn messenger client (3 friends - blackberry, iphone 4, G2 lol) especially since msn messenger adds a PC client which is big for me, which whatsapp does not have.
But seems so few people use msn messenger for pc in my circle anymore. Facebook and BB killed it.

Try Fim Facebook Chat.
FWIW, there's some information going round that Windows Live Messenger will be integrated into the People hub.

WhatsApp is cute and all, but it halved my battery life on my Vibrant so I made them remove my number from their database and haven't looked back since... It's a good solution though, using phone numbers and all... I also like how they allow you to set the App to give clean pop-up notifications similar to iOS (I prefer that and Toast Notification types to Android's "scroll text in the notification bar" bull****).
It's also been having some performance issues, and issues with message delivery speeds lately. Seems like when these startups get enough customers, they stop caring as much...
The main issue for me in Windows Live for Windows Mobile was that it was never updated to support Yahoo!<->Windows Live interoperability, nevermind Facebook. This means half of my buddies could see me online, but I could never chat with them...
