After 20 minutes after updating to the latest MIUI, my Evo suddenly restarted. It got the white screen, but before loading any further, it restarted to the white screen and repeated the whole process infinitely. The only way to stop it is to do a battery pull.
I have tried wiping the data, but the issue is still there. After selecting the option to boot into recovery, the phone does the exact same thing (cycling the white boot screen). I even tried updating the recovery with the zip file, but that problem is still there.
Does anyone know what's wrong with my evo?

Uh oh! Oh no! Read that thread. Everything you could possibly try is in that thread, it went 27 pages!!, and is still active. There was no solution found, but if something might work for you, it will be in that thread, I promise.
Hopefully an ruu will work for you.
I sincerely wish you luck.

not another one... ok so I would first post your info ROM, kernal, Hboot all the info in advanced. This happened to me last week. All I see now is bootloop post... this is BS.

Over the last few months, I have noticed that my phone tends to get stuck on the splashscreen ALOT. I notice it when I reboot the phone. I can't remember it really ever being like this.
Someone did make a custom boot screen (The Michael Jordan symbol by Rydah in the Theme's and App forum.) I am in no way saying it's this or his fault or anything, I just have noticed it happening a lot sometime after I added that file.
I have flashed a lot of rom's here and there (always wiping ALL and using the format.all 2x before flashing a new ROM.)
I was wondering if anyone else has encountered anything like this and if they were able to correct it somehow? Or, if anyone has any suggestions on what I can do to try and correct this so anytime I reboot, it reboots normally instead of locking up?
BTW, when it locks up, I do the battery pull and let the battery sit for 30 seconds before I put the battery back in and reboot.
Thank you,
Whiteice
Well the phone will take slightly longer to boot up once you wipe the caches, because they have to rebuild. Do you wipe your cache and dalvik when flashing a boot animation?

That's never really happened to me on a consistent basis. I've got stuck at the splash screen a couple of times, but it was my own doing one way or another. How long do you let it hang on the Splash screen before you pull the battery? Sometimes mine will sit on the splash for a good minute or so during a normal reboot. After wiping cache's it can sit there for a good 3 or 4 minutes sometimes. I've caught myself pulling hte back cover off the phone to yank the battery, then I notice that the boot animation was starting, and it booted up. I just wasn't patient enough. Have you tried changing away from that boot animation, temporarily, to see if the problem goes away? I doubt that's the cause, but you never know. And if it started happening right when you changed boot animations, I'd say the first thing to try would be changing out to a different one, and see if the problem persists. Has this been happening on any ROM/Kernel combo you've tried? Perhaps it's the kernel you're on, have you tried another? Do you use SetCPU?
Thank you for the responses.
Just to make sure, it is not the boot animation but the splash screen (Originally the white screen that had EVO on it) that I have changed.
The boot animation screens are usually the ones that comes with whatever ROM I am using. I have done the particle motion boot animation from time to time.
And, anytime I flash I flash in recovery, I always ALWAYS wipe cache and dalvik cache (Unless I am flashing a new ROM, then I wipe everything 2x prior to flashing it.)
I usually let the splashscreen sit for about a minute, maybe 2 if that. I was under the impression that if the splashscreen sits there for more then a minute, then I should battery pull to fix it?
I use different kernels to try them out depending on if I am using a sense based or AOSP rom, and it seems to happen no matter what kernel. I do not use SetCPU.

Oh I gotchya, so it was the splash screen you changed to the jordan symbol. Yea, I mean, most of the time it will pass by the splash screen in less than 30 seconds, but for whatever reason, from time to time it will sit in the splash for a little longer than normal. If it goes past 5 minutes then yea, that's too long. It shouldn't take that long. Have you tried a different kernel?
Yes, I try different kernel's all the time and it happens on most of them.
It seems that anytime it freezes up on the splashscreen and I reboot, and it still freezes up on the splashscreen that I have to reboot into recovery (AMON 2.3) and wipe cache and delvik cache each and every time for it to clear whatever is going on. Then usually it reboots fine the next boot after doing that until I reboot again and it locks up. Then repeat above.
Thank you,
Whiteice
Hi everyone,
I've got a problem. My rooted desire running ReflexTSenseHD v1.8. Last night the battery went dead or so I thought then. Anyway when I got home and I tried to charge it nothing happened. Tried a few things (battery out, battery in) and finally got it charging.
The next morning I tried to boot it and but it hangs on the white HTC screen. Took the battery out, tried it again still the same screen. Took the battery out again and tried it one last time. I booted it in the bootloader and cleared storage. This time it booted, but when it finaly got to the lock screen it said: connect charger but couldn't get it off the lockscreen. Took the battery again and this time it booted normally and worked like nothing happend.
After a few hours I got curious if it would boot normally right away. But unfortunately, the whole thing started over again.
I searched the web, but couldn't find anything like this. The white htc screen freeze is known, but that is usually due to a broken/ faulty bootchip which in my case is not likely because I can boot (sometimes).
I haven't got a clue what to do next but hope any of you do.
Thanks for reading this, and hope that somebody has a solution.
Robit
ps sometimes I can boot in recovery but most of the times it will hang on the white htc screen.
Try boot into recovery and wipe the boot, cache, system, data, dalvik cache and do a factory reset too. What on a fresh rom. If you can't be bothered with that, use an ruu which will do a fresh everything, even the bootloader. If things still are messing up, talk to HTC it your carrier.

Thanks somehow I got into recovery and wiped it all, and so far so good

unfortunately the issue has returned. So far I figured out that if I wait long enough, it will boot but then hangs onto the lockscreen, show the empty battery and says connect charger. I can't unlock it so the only way of rebooting is to take out the battery and start it again.
I just don't get it. It can't be a faulty bootchip, I suppose it wouldn't boot at all then.
I already tried the steps above from meaple but this time I hadn't so much luck. In booting it again.
I'm getting a little desperate by now so any help would again be appreciated.
Robit
ps: I'm on a new rom the RCMixHD v3.6 which at first worked like a charm.
Hi Friends,
I did a lot of searching and tried a bunch of things, but I am not very successful. Can you experts please tell me if my EVO is dead/gone for good?
Symtoms:
My Evo was charging (it was rooted and S-Off), I took the charger cable off, and the phone rebooted.
It went to the White HTC Evo screen that comes before any ROM boots, and basically looped their infinitely.
Since then, the symptoms have switched back and forth from Bootloops on the white screen OR STUCK on the white screen, infinitely.
Currently, I am getting white screen boot loops
Things I have tried:
1. Cleared Storage (via Bootloader/Fastboot)
2. Chose "Recovery" from Bootloader/Fastboot (nothing happens, reboots and stuck on the white screen or loops)
3. Reverted back to S-ON
4. Flashed other Recovery zips
5. Upgraded the Fastboot version
6. Flashed the RUU
Current Situation:
Nothing changed guys... and after the RUU flash (out of which the Radio flash was the only component that FAILED) my PC31IMG.zip files are no longer being promoted for updates in my Fastboot/Bootloader menu.
While the reboots continue on the white screen...
Can't access Recovery
Can't run PC36IMG.zips anymore
Am I done here guys, or is there still anything I can do to save my EVO?
Appreciate ALL your help!
Man I have the same problem execept I'm not rooted or s off if you change the battery and let it sit for awhile off it will turn on but it will reboot in about 5 mintues then get stuck on the sprint 4g screen of the htc screen
Hey theneguy,
Thanks for your response... My phone was rooted, but is now S-On and Unrooted, I believe (I can't tell because I am not able to get in the OS).
I can't get into Recovery and my PC31IMG is not being read now...
Any ideas, friends?

same thing happened to my son, pulled sd card and it would boot fine, found and deleted a corrupt .img file on sd...all is fine
Latest Update guys:
I tried flashing the RUU via HBoot/Flashboot, and the update failed, but the progress bar at the screen was full/successful. The on-screen wizard tried to take me to the "Recovery" steps, nothing was fixed.
The computer wizard was stuck at: Sending Signature....
And the phone had the full progress bar from the previous flash.
So I yanked the battery out, cause I had no options left.
Well, needless to say, now, NOTHING turns on. The phone doesn't charge, and blah, blah, blah.
So guys, can someone give me a verdict... is my EVO done for good?
Thanks for your help.
I can't get in the recovery eather I tryed pulling the sd card out it is still doing the same thang

It should be PC36IMG not 31.

Thanks Mark,
But I don't think it matters anymore... I think with the battery pulled out after a failed RUU.exe installation has truly bricked my phone for good.
It doesn't charge, the battery was good, NOTHING lights up, and I just think it's game over...

I think you're right...
Friends evo just started doing this today - he didn't make any changes or do anything to the phone to cause this. It just keeps cycling through the sprint splash screen/start up sound over and over.
its not rooted/unlocked - it's stock from sprint
If i try going into recovery, i get the black and white htc evo screen. And then I get an icon of a green arrow with green arrows circling around it and after a few seconds i get a red triangle with an exclamation mark in it, which i assume is a bad thing.
Is there anything I can do to try and fix this?
and again - stock, not rooted/not unlocked - running whatever rom is current with sprint.
thanks
Same here except sometimes times it loads up into android but after a few minutes it starts rebooting again. I rooted the phone to see if that would fix it but still stuck in boot loop with it occassionaly loading into android.

I just fixed my friends phone by doing the following:
downloaded this RUU RUU_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.67.651.3_Radio_2.15.00.12.19_NV_2.33_release_234563_signed.exe
download htc sync
installed htc sync
uninstalled htc sync (keep the drivers).
press the power btn and the volume down button until you get into hboot - wait a few seconds for it to fully boot. Select fastboot. Plug your phone into your pc. Run the RUU - wait a few minutes for it to do it's thing and phone is working now.
not sure how this will work for you if your phone is rooted, as this was done on an unrooted phone.
Infinite boot loop
Stock Evo Infinite Boot Loop
I have been trying to fix my daughter's evo 4g from Sprint. Its at least 2 years old. She no longer uses it because it went into infinite boot loop. Itws not hooked up and is in no warranty.
I have done the hard factory reset. There is no issue with saqving anything on the phone. I have tried everything I could find so far in the forums. I may have missed some things. idk.
Ive wiped cache.
This is what I got in the info on the phone.

This is my daughter's exact message about problems she was having:
"it seems to me that it gets overheated sometimes. like it seems the battery is getting too hot. i dunno john had the problem with his evo one time but he took it and had sprint reset it which is pretty much the same thing you do yourself i think. his was fixed but mine wasnt.i didnt get sprint to reset it for me. i never dropped it or anything i dont know. i hope you can get it fixed though. i liked the phone when it was working good. it seems like it can go for awhile sometimes without rebooting and i could talk on it but as soon as i would hang up it would go into loop again.it was hot.i even tried making the screen darker so maybe it wouldnt get so hot."
Sorry not to be briefer. Please..anyone with suggestions?

Been awhile since i did this. But search "revolutionary s-off". Do this to gain s-off. Download and flash "smelkus recovery" (find directions in post, search xda). Then try wiping everything and installing a room.
Might work, might not... but if not, that's a stylish paper weight
Riding the Uni on the GSIII
The problem only happens when I reboot or turn on the phone. When it boots up, I get multiple results. A: It boots up normally (not a problem) B: When it gets to the samsung screen, it freaks out and reboots itself again and again. It's like it's struggling to boot up. One time it got to the gs 3, but then it looped back. C: This just happened today. I booted up and it went pass the samsung screen but when it got to the gs 3 screen, the screen turned a faint pink and it stayed on that screen.
This just happened right after version 8. I know 10 was messed up but on 9 and 11, this problem persisted. Also,I don't think the issue is the phone, since I don't have this problem on other Roms. If I'm wrong please let me know .
Any suggestions, advice, help, etc is welcomed.
Please... i really need help.
I suggest you start over, this will remove any corruption and gremlins you have klinging to your phone..

I unrooted, went back to stock, it did a factory reset so no bugs should have been alive. I re-rooted, made a backup, did a factory reset and wiped dalvik, then I flashed the rom zip and rebooted. It gets stuck on the Gs III screen. I waited like 5 minutes and it didn't move. My battery was at 50% so I just put it on the charger and tried to boot up and it went through to the set up screen for gmail.Just to see if it was coincedental, I did another reboot but this time it got stuck again. It sounds like a system problem but i'm not sure.Like i said earlier, this only happens on Jellybomb.
Any other ideas?
Edit: I've tried switching recoveries but it doesn't fix it.
Sigh.
