To remove stock apps and use as a file manager, you want Root Explorer. OC kernel, I have used Genocide found here:

And for some reason my phone sometimes crashes in wifi tether if I have I have 4g on
If you read, it's a well known issue, turn off 4g then turn on wifi tether then turn 4g back on.
Yeah, 4G wifi tether is still kind of buggy. I have issues with 4G infrastructure, but ad hoc works fine. YMMV.
Ok I thought it was just mine.. the new one that they just added 2 days ago didn't even work so I download a feb one and it works with the psp ps3

Most custom roms nowadays has the hacked hotspot. I'm on MikFroyo with a hacked hotspot. I know Nuggysunlimited's is also hacked. Those are the ones that I have personally used and tested at one point or another.

Does a hacked one mean an ability to use your hotspot without being raped by Sprint ?
If you weren't getting raped by Sprint, then it wouldn't be hacked.
But yes, you can use it for free, without getting charged on a hacked hotspot.

Yep! All you have to do is open Sprint hotspot and click ok. Then it gives you options to turn it on, change the name of your router (phone), and choose your security type and change the password.
That's it, your all set to go surfing!!!
My doors are open if anyone needs to PM me for assistance with anything pertaining to your Evo. I love mine and have learned so much and love to help others, so feel free to hit me up.
Also Wireless Tether App in Market
I'm not entirely sure what the differences are, but there is also the "Wireless Tether for Root users" in the market. I've been using this for a bit and it works great.
I'm on MikFroyo 4.5 and use the Sprint Hotspot. For some reason the Wireless Tether from the market didn't wan't to work for me. They're both basically do the same thing though.

I haven't been able to use wireless tether in a while, unfortunately. But yea, they are the same...I keep getting "started up with errors." I tried the newer one, and the older version of it.
One thing to check with wireless tether is make sure you allow your connected device in the security settings.
Evo with Destroyer rom
Hi, been searching the forum to see if the sprint hot spot is hacked on the new destroyer rom "gingerbread". I had mikfroyo where I used the sprint hotspot a couple of times and it seemed alot quicker the android wifi tether, so I was wondering if it worked with the destroyer rom cecause I really like destroyer. has anyone heard anything on this? any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Destroyer is AOSP, so it doesn't have Sprint Hotspot. However, it is CM7 based so I assume it has the native hotspot that's included in CM7.

You sir are correct.
Hey everybody.
I am in need of having my wireless tether run in infrastructure mode instead of adhoc.
I am running a Rooted Epic. Stock ROM/Kernel.
I don't mind flashing kernels if required.
Thank you for your help!!!
Go here: http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...mmary+Uploaded+ReleaseDate+Size+DownloadCount
And choose one of the wifi tether 3.0.0 versions,
I recommend backing apps and info in case something gets corrupted and you may want to get any of the custom kernals in the development section will make it work better.
This ones are experimental so use at ur own risk and always have a backup. They do infrastructure
Thanks for the advice. I downloaded the genocide 1.0 kernel. Installed it.
When I install any of the 3.0 wifi tether apps, the app starts as normal, requests super user request. I grant it. It then vibrates and reboots....
Any thoughts?
Thank you!

Hmm have you tried any custom roms...
maybe its a stock rom issue..
also did u try pre 11 ?
If you want to dive in to roms, i reccomend Bonsai first choice or Syndicate for second choice.
You may also want to make sure in the wifi settings to select your device in the profile, then select softap in the setup method and enable mss clamping as well as access control
if those settings dont work on stock rom with genocide then i reccomend getting a custom rom, i use pre11 on bonsai no problem.
Also question are u trying to start wifi tether with 4g on?
if so thats the problem and you need to start in 3g then turn on 4g after it started.
Right on! Thank you.
Yes you hit the nail on the head with having 4g on.
Disabled 4g. Connected via wireless tether 3 pre11 bamn online no issues.
Stock ROM / Genocide 1.0 Kernel.
Problem with me and the epic is I get way to involved and find my self wasting hours of time dealing with roms / updates / etc. So I have elected to stay with EC05 + root + Kernel.
Again thank you for your help, being a Network guy I understand what it takes getting good support.
Thank you.

not a problem, what so ever, just been on these forums and reading a lot since the epic came out so i know my share of stuff.
Oh and im actually going to school working on my network degree
Hello I had a related question: I just rooted my EPIC with the stock filesystem yesterday. This was mainly for tethering my Nook color and I used the 2.5.5 CWM version in the sticky for rooting.
I've tried the 3.0 pre 12 release of wifi tether. Following are the problems:
1) On enabling Wifi Tethering, I get a message Sprint "Hotspot Connected" in the notification. And if I click on hotspot connected it takes me right to the Sprint Hotspot! Now does this imply that the 3.0 version ACTUALLY uses the Sprint's hotspot service? In which case, I shall have to pay the $30? Can anyone confirm this?
2) I get awful speeds on my 4g. While my phone gives 4-5 meg download, on tethering with wifi tether, I get very low speeds like barely .5 mbps. In fact the 3G is actually faster than 4G using WiFi tether. Any idea what seems to be throttling the 4G speeds? (and yes, I disconnect 4G before tether and then put it back on).
Thanks in advance!
When it says sprint hot spot activated it activated it with out actually authenticating anything as if u look in the sprint hotspots settings u see the checkbox isn't checked to activate it that's is because the wifi tether app by passes the authentication there for it is free as for slow 4g speeds its a know issue on wifi tether and don't think we will see a fix anytime soon so stick with 3g or don't use it also I think some people have better speeds with pre 10 or 11 on 4g I wouldn't know where as I don't have 4g

Thanks for the reply.
So If I understand correctly, you are saying that the Sprint hotspot is activated but NOT authenticated. This means there will NOT be any charges i.e no $29.99 fee. Correct?
As for the 4G speeds, it's a bummer that it's slow on wifi tether. I'm not sure there is a choice of selecting any other program, as it seems that ONLY wifi tether supports infrastructure routing. That said, I'm ok with 3G speeds (better than nothing).
Thanks again for replying promptly. Much appreciated!!

not a problem bro and yes no charges as it is bypassing the authentication been using it for awhile and no fees
I'm using the viper rom, and I had the same problem of the wifi forcing closing but it seems to work when I go from wifi to hotspot ( I did for testing pruposes, I need it for work Ideally) but when I'm at work and on a 3g connection even 1x (its an old building) it will feeze crash then reboot, but ill try it again.
Does 4g have to be off for hotspotting to work or just not be connected?
And I work at radioshack. I get an employee discount, and when I was having some problems with an unrelated issue, so I called employee line help and hinted about illegally hotspoting, they said the could detect that and charge me. Should I be worried because I'm on an empolyee line? Or is their threat BS?
Thanks for helping a noob.

I wouldn't worry about the threat I've been tether since it first came out and I haven't got any warnings bills or anything u should be fine
As for the force closing, what pre version are u using I'm able to tether 1x and 3g on bonsai Tom on pre 11 and this one has been the mist stable for me.
Also try clearing wifi tether data in settings/manage applications/all/wifi tether/clear data
Or uninstall it and reinstall it
Also try other versions maybe u will have better luck with another version.

Pre is the version b4 the final kinda like a beta Goto the site above that I posted and u will see they have 3.0.0 versions that have Pre after showing the latest
Sent from my iPod touch cause epic is bricked or dead
To those not happy with their 4g tethering speeds, I wonder if possibly the root of the cause has something to do with the fact that wifi and 4g will not both enable at the same time (maybe they share some kind of a channel, the same way some devices share irqs, internal laptop devices may share a usb root hub).
In any event, in my experience the wired tether app is MUCH faster on 4G. I want to say I've gotten somewhere between 8-11mbps over USB. Hope this helps someone.
I was rooted and running Barnacle just fine in Froyo, then upgraded to GB. Now it does not seem to be working. Im rooted in GB still (just be a different program) and it shows Barnacle has root access.
It goes and says NAT is unavail, restarting NAT.. and nothing after that.
Heres a screen shot of what its saying:
Guess this is a common error with GB
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...e-any-roms-dont-have-wifi-tether-blocked.html
Seems like GB has a built in wifi/hot spot thats taking over control of the avail network.
So far i havnt come across a fix
Also tried Open Garden to no avail

EDIT: Update in post #7
Anyone find anything for a work around?
Im thinking about going back to Froyo

I used the latest android-wifi-tether (beta 6). In the settings go to "Device Profile" and change it to Motorola Droid X, then connect. After you connect toggle the Pro into airplane mode and toggle it off again. You should be able to surf and will not get the "Verizon" pay wall. I know its one added step, but it's a whole lot easier and cheaper then paying $20+ more a month...

Yes you are correct. But with Verizon you have to pay an additional, I believe, $20 a month for the built in feature.
If you're rooted there are apps put there where you can do it for free at your own risk.
I did find a solution to the problem a week or two ago. But last Friday I upgraded to the Razr. And will have to find a work around for that phone haha.
In reading through this forum all day, I am somewhat stuck on my next goal -> free tethering.
SO I currently have root access on my epic 4g touch (sprint) via the method under [ROOT][NCIQ][EG30/EG31/EK02] Auto root your existing stock ROM (w/o ODIN/ROM Flash). I took options A and C for CWM. Now I'm trying to determine which method is best for obtaining the free tethering/hotspot.
1. I have been looking at 2 in particular; one is posted by qbking - in a video dated back to Sept 2011. It is meant for the epic 4g touch although he demo'ed this on an epic 4g - and now all of the comments mention that it didnt work for the 4g touch so I'm somewhat afraid that this method doesnt work at all... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQpIxUxnCqU
2. Then there is a mod posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1390304 which I have to admit is more confusing than anything Ive seen thus far with the number of zips in the post and no clear instruction on installing any of them. It also looks like I'd have to flash my rom in this case?
I'm really curious if the hotspot can be obtained without flashing. if you have recommendations/experience in this portion, please let me know.

No, you just flash the version that corresponds to your radio. It will replace the Sprint Hotspot application to remove the checks to see if you paid for hotspot. As such it is probably the easiest option than messing with Android-wifi-tether. (I have issues with it disconnecting after a while, etc etc)

Google wifi tether should only be used when the carrier has completely removed tethering from your devices settings menue.
Metropcs does this with their smartphones, so everyone on metropcs uses code.Google.Com wifi tether.

Oh this is the exact question I'm looking for and hope you can verify before I perform it. I want to use wifi tether for root users, is that the one you have. It says it requires root and a "netfilter enabled kernel" Now do I have to install a new kernel or the stock kernel have this and all I need to do is get root and install the app?
I have the galaxy s2 for sprint with latetest firmware as of today's date. It says d710.10 for hardware and gingerbread.ek02.
I'm double checking becuase I'm seeing so many people flashing the wrong roms and messing up their phones. Don't want that to happen to me.
Hi guys! I'm back again with more questions..
So, my phone is rooted and running Blazer 3.8.
I started off using the built in Sprint Hotspot, which works wonderfully, but uses up way too much power and gets way too hot while running. So, I decided to go to the Wireless tether app I used on my old EVO.
however, All of the newer versions (beta 3.0 and above) fail to work, period. At all.
The older versions work, however they fail to work when using Encryption of any form. (all of them force me to use WEP and I would like to use WPSK)
Also, i'm unable set it to make itself into a true WiFi network, instead it's an AdHoc network.
How can I fix these issues?
Thanks!
~Saph
The solution is to use the sprint app, not sure what Samsung does to their phones...

Check to make sure you don't have one of those "Green" cables. (The stock Samsung cable is one of those I believe).
You might want to re-flash the rom too, I use this almost daily and see very little power drain.

That sounds pretty normal to me. Anyway, back when I was stock rooted the wireless tether app didn't work for me either. I ended up using an application called OpenGarden which worked pretty well. Now that I'm on Blazer, I use the Sprint Hotspot app and it doesn't drain a tremendous amount of power.
