Is it possible to lower my bill 10-15 Dollars a month? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was supposed to get a bill of $140 every month but it fluctuates around $160-190, is it possible to get a 10-15 dollar discount every month by saying something??
If anyone has an idea, please share it.
Thanks

Corporate/university discount. 'nough said.

I asked for student discount when I got my epic and the guy went "No student discounts, but do you work at CVS?" We both knew I didn't but I said yes and I got a discount of like 20% off my bill a month for 2 years.

This link is outdated, but there is a lot of useful info if you read through.

SERO is useless. Just give the 800 number a company name like CVS or Accenture (25% off).

Ok, so if I say I work at CVS, won't they ask me to verifiy that? How can I do this?
Thanks
So If I just give them a CVS Number, they will give me a discount?

All you have to do is call them up, tell them you work for CVS, and that you were told there's a discount. They won't ask for an email or phone number. They do not verify.

Just be wary, currently we are going through accounts to verify place of employment for the NVP discounts.

They will more than likely ask you to go into a store for situations just like the ones these guys are telling you go do. Apparently they are going to start auditing all accounts with discounts to make sure they aren't fraudulent.

If you're off contract, call up retentions and threaten to cancel. They'll more than likely offer you some kind of discount. I did this back when I had to switch from SERO to a different plan in order to upgrade my phone and they offered me a $20 credit for 2 years. I don't think they offer the $20 credit anymore, but they might offer you something.

I did something similar. Patience is the key. I was asked for address and phone number of my workplace(I used I.B.M, was actually working on a research center) back in 2007....still getting 23% off. Plug away at retentions, no telling what you might get.

I wouldn't suggest lying....Seriously? lol
Just call the 1800 number and tell them you're a student, they should give you a discount. Try a few reps before you give up, some are willing to help while others...aren't so much.

I am assuming your on Sprint...
$69.99 unlimited plan is great. Then if you bank with chase they have a 27% discount. My monthly bill is roughly $62.

[Q] Sprint Discounts...Where to get one?

I've read random posts throughout threads from people asking about discounts or people saying where you can find one. I personally have a 25% discount from a thread on slickdeals.net that went into effect in June. I am unsure if the deal I got is still good but I'll post the link at the bottom. I've also seen threads like the 23% off student rate discount but not all schools are eligible.
I recently found out a friend was paying almost $250 for 4 lines and I've been looking around trying to find some way of lowering that for her. I'm sure everyone here would appreciate some way of lowering their bill though so that's why I'm posting this.
The inspiration for this thread came from some posts I read in the CM7 thread and I thought it would help to open the question up to the entire community. Does anyone have any discounts they know of that haven't been previously mentioned?
As many know, Sprint changed their Terms of Service to only discount the first 2 lines

It really depends on who you talk to. If you go in the store they maybe will be a bit more leinent to get the discount. IF you are looking to upgrade soon or add a line I know starting sunday that are doing instant rebates.

When I worked for a Sprint store, a few moons ago (now I install the towers) we had a list of company's that offered discounts, the percentage, and the code to put on your account. As a salesman if your gonna be adding a line, or upgrading your phone to a phone that has an awesome "spiff" I was gonna go on that list and give you some kinda discount. Those days are probably done. When I left there were the 2 billing systems and migrating everyone over. But I am sure with a little persuading the right sales person can get you a discount if they are gonna gain from it...
I found this info about 2 years ago. The method I am posting works for either Time/Warner or Cox Communications. If you follow the directions you can receive upto a 27% discount like me. I personally used these basic directions to set up my discount. I don't know about the the time warner discount personally but according to the post I read it works in the same manner. I used this method for cox communications. Due to the wording in their contract with sprint anyone qualifies.
I'm not sure if this was ever posted before but I have found a way to get up to 27% discount off most Sprint plans.
A) sign up for an AIM Mail email account
https://new.aol.com/productsweb/?promocode=825960&ncid=txtlnkuswebr00000040
B) go to the corp discount page on the sprint site and enter your aim mail account as your business email address.
http://sprint.p.delivery.net/m/p/nxt/ais/wdyw.asp?id12=UHPCHP_Link_EmployeeDiscounts
Sprint will then send you an e-mail with a link to a private store that says you are a Time Warner employee and you get a 25% discount.
Plans with this discount cost less than on the current sero plans.
Remember to use coupon code save50 to get a $50 invoice credit on newservice! ( I didn't do this)
Thats it
let me know how it works out.
This takes up to 2 months to kick in. I have had this discount since 07 and it works for everyone that has tried it.
Btw I don't take credit for this exploit. I stumbled upon it.

I'd like to know this as well. I'm going over to my friends house today to help her sign up for the Time Warner discount (not very tech savvy, she gets confused easily), we'll see if it works.
Well, for the record, I was denied. I received an email saying that so-and-so sprint employee reviewed my discount request. They determined that "my current plan provides me with the best value available, making my account ineligible for the additional employee discounts I requested"... No harm done I guess.

Sprint employee discount change

I don't know if everyone heard but if you have a employee discount with Sprint get ready to pay more than you prevously did. Sprint will start applying the discount to the primary line only, not the plan. I have the family plan thats $129 I get a 15% discount which is $19.50. When this goes into effect I will be only getting 15% on $109.
I know whooppee a few extra bucks I have to pay. But if we don't say anything next will be our unlimited data.
Thanks,

Actually it hasn't. This is a new change.
The previous change was they stopped applying the discount to lines 3-5, but they did apply it to the base plan which includes both lines 1&2.
Now they are restructuring the base plan so it only includes line 1 and splitting out line #2 separate. The purpose of this restructuring is a back-door way of reducing your discount without changing the advertised percentage discount.
This is considered an ETF waiving event by Sprint. You can leave ETF-free if you'd like.

The discount applies to the initial plan, no add ons... so as a for instance, if you are paying 129.99 for your family plan with 2 people plus you both have smart phones which would give you 2 $10 premium data charges that would bring you to a grand total of 149.99 a month before tax, now that initial 129.99 is what the discount will come off of. Also if you have more phones than that you will have your additional 19.99 per phone... the discount will come off of that as well.
EDIT: I am looking into this further, I have someone on the inside who knows all about this.
I don't think you can cancel the ETF fee with this change.

Your request has been approved and you will soon begin receiving Sprint discounts through State of New Jersey - Higher Education - NJ1 Contract, including:

These discounts are also applied to your add-on services that have a monthly service charge of $30 or more. Your discounts will be applied to the monthly service charges on the first line of your shared plane.

What will renew your contract?
a) there is a huge thread in this very forum that covered this topic.
b) discount is not contractual. You will not be able to get out of the contract ETF fee. You may with a lot of complaining and getting lucky with customer care roulette, but getting a discount is not part of your contract. You do have to re-sign a 2 year agreement if you add a discount in the middle of your current contract, and for people who did this, you may be able to use it to get out, but I am not sure.
c) All this changes is that you will no longer get your discount on an additional 19.99 of your plan. For people on the 129.99 EDS 1500 plan, you will be getting your discount on the first 110, and not the next 19.99. There is no other difference. So you will be losing 15% on the 19.99, which is 3 dollars per month.
d) Sprint will still be far and away the cheapest of any national provider (well, T-mo is close). The maximum this change will cost any customer is $6 per month, if they are on the 27% discount that a very limited number of companies offer.
e) If you are in an area where Sprint is really terrible, this is a convenient excuse to at least try and get out of your contract, but don't be upset if it doesn't work. The 2-6 bucks ain't gonna break anyone. I think you are very likely to get a $2-6 monthly recurring credit for the length of your current contract, and very unlikely to get waived without ETF.
I didn't want to quote your entire post, but in that other link that was just posted "Slick deals" I believe that I read that a few people did have their etf waived because of this.
In addition, people said that you wouldnt be able to get your etf waived the last time Sprint changed something, which I believe was this past July. And three people I know was able to get their etf's waived as well as a bunch of people around here.
It don't hurt to try and that's what I'm gonna do.

I saw it at radio Shack for $99 after I paid $199

I saw it at radio Shack for $99 after I paid $199 at at&t, called them up and told them about it. They informed me that they don't offer price matching.
I informed them I would just return the phone and go buy it from the shack.
They promptly credited my account $100.
So apparently anyone can get it for $99 if they are willing to work with a customer service representative.

great. Im about call them and get that $100 back. Will update for details later.
Edit: ok, so i called in and talked to the sale reps. They put me on hold for a few minutes and said since this is a promotion from Radioshack for the $99, they wont honor the deal and what they can do is give me a $25 credit on my account. So i used the comeback line and said I can just go refund the phone and get it cheaper at AT&T. Then he said i will be subject to the restocking fees from the store and disruption of service for a few days. So i accept the $25 credit and will call again to talk to a different reps to see what they can do. Will update again.

yes but i was able to get $25 credit back to my account which is always nice for just calling and ask for it lol.. The CSR couldn't verify it either on the website and they said it must be a store promotion, meaning you have to go to the actual store to see the deal.
Glad you liked my post enough to steal it, please learn to write your own posts or give credit to the original writer no matter how simple it may be
Second, if you want at&t to credit your account like they did mine you have to be speaking with a cs rep manager to begin with
And for gods sake be firm and truthful when you tell them you are going to just return the phone to at&t and go buy it elsewhere.

I took a slightly different approach...
I called up AT&T, explained that I just purchased the phone last week from a corp store for 199 and wanted to be credited back 100 to match what "various retailers" (not specifying which one) offer. The lady I was speaking with balked at first. I explained that if she refused, that was okay, but then I'd have to keep calling back until I got a customer service rep that would actually take care of this.
She asked me to hold on, came back and gave me the credit. I also got the $36 "upgrade" fee credited for my troubles. (I almost felt bad at this point because I never paid or was charged an upgrade fee - it's automatically waived due to my FAN account.)
Sometimes, blunt honesty works best.
So really it's not that radioshack had it for $99, which they don't, it's just that you committed a class A misdemeanor of defrauding a merchant.
*golf clap*
Next, you could always steal one of the fake display phones and try to return it for a full credit.

When I ordered mine they matched the $99 Walmart price. I was told it would be $300 + Tax and I was in no way going to pay that much!
I also received free over night shipping!
Yeah they do price match and free overnight has usually been the standard for most upgrades or online sales. I was just curious to know where, be it radio shack or now walmart, they have the at&t s3 going for $99 at the present moment (not so much the past), which is why it caught my eye.
Is Walmart running that deal right now for at&t? I know they did it for Tmobile in the past.

No problem. Please forward my commission to... (just kidding, of course)

Thank you, T-Mobile (making good T-Mobile's error)

Tuesday evening, my wife and I upgraded and extended our contracts. Or, we thought we did. As it happens, however, the T-Mobile representative put through the contract extension but not the new Galaxy S IIIs. (We were to pay $79.98 for each 16GB phone; get a $10 monthly loyalty discount; and keep our 14% AAA monthly discount. The phones were supposed to be delivered no later than tomorrow (Friday).)
When the phones did not come today (Thursday) and I did not find a record of the phone upgrades at myTMobile, I called. Long story short, and I was on the phone for over 50 minutes (both talking and on hold), I accepted the following offer:
1. Two 32GB S IIIs for $79.98 each.
2. Free express delivery, most likely next Monday.
3. One month free service.
4. A $50.00 credit.
5. The same $10.00 loyalty credit and 14% discount.
I spoke calmly and reasonably. The T-Mobile representative was friendly and helpful. I infer her supervisor, whom she consulted more than once, was equally helpful.

Damn, I wish I paid $79.98 for my S3 lol.
Good to see they handled your situation appropriately.
Haha who wouldn't. I paid 380$, let's trade haha.
That's good karma op, usually the person would have overreacted but like you pointed out you did it in a calmly fashion.

The 16 GB ones are going to be free with MIR starting tomorrow (Friday). Still a good deal.

I was generally aware of "Magenta Days." The T-Mobile representative told me, perhaps incorrectly, that only the down-payment on the Value plans is being waived. The 16GB phones, therefore, would have cost $400 each.In any case, after factoring in the two discounts I would have lost by switching, it seemed to me I was being offered a fair, indeed possibly a superior, deal.

I went through a similar situation, they upgrade the contract but then never do the phone, or they charge you full retail price. So then you have to call again and hope you get a good rep (they are about 1 in 5) who can help, most of the call center is clueless. So then they also need a manager to approve anything over $150 back to your acct. So, keep checking your mytmobile, you may end up seeing full retail price on there. Also check your data plan if you have grandfathered, they might mess that up too.
But I was honestly surprised, they appear to be fixing things as was originally agreed upon in the first place. So there are a few good people at the call center. (LOL, one exec brags about how he consolidated 14 customer support call centers down to just 2)
What? The phones will be free tomorrow? I just got mine like 5 days ago and I paid $200 before Mir. I wonder if I can get them to credit me the difference since in still in the 14 day return window?

Possibly but you can always return within 14 days and go to a different store and get the magenta days deal
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
There is some restocking fee when I asked before about getting something during father's day.
Is the Magenta sale only apply to Value plan? T-mo new policy is to call something "free" but they are only
talking about the downpayment. Their new scam is to relabel all phone pricing as downpayment and then
month installments.
So, yes the phone 20 monthly payments of $20 and a $150 down, you are getting $150 off, but still owe $400.
How long have you had that AAA discount? Is it grandfathered because that's not the AAA discount I got..
That is the AAA discount I get as well, I just got a 32GB GS3 for $179.99 with the 50MIR, I am on a grandfathered 1200minute myfave plan with 5GB data
The AAA discount now is one free month and no activation fee. Wtf.

I'll do a live chat tomorrow because that really blows lol.

Get a phone on contract and cancel

Hey guys, me, my mom and dad just switched to t mobile. i Have some money, so i bought the gnote 2 with EIP (we're on the value plan) but my parents came over with their att gs2's.
My dad really wants the gs3 so i'm trying to figure out the cheapest way to do it. If he does the EIP, he'll pay 170ish down, and then 20 dollars a month for two years, so thats 170 +400. but he wouldnt have to put so much down now, it would come out to like 220 with tax.
I could try and get it on craigslist for like 350... I mean technically tmobile would let him add insurance to it as long as its a tmobile phone even if its used, i think. I'm considering this.
My real question is this, Could i buy it on contract, under my name (my actual phone is under my moms family plan) for like 50 dollars in best buy now, and i dont think thats with a rebate, and then cancel the contract and keep the phone? If i add that up, Its 50, plus 50 for the tax i think, 35 for the activation fee if i cant get that waived, and the 200 early termination fee. thats about 3-335. of course i'll have to pay for some service, so, will that be prorated? then it can be as low as 30-40 extra dollars which brings the total to like 370, or even if i have to pay the full month of service, thats like 400... thats much better than 550 plus tax.... even if there is a rebate which i wouldnt get back because ill be cancelling, maybe it would come to 500 total....
does anyone have any info on this?

One thing. If you sign up for a plan at best buy or anywhere where you are either signing a contract or getting a new account. You can't just cancel and keep the phone. They will not cancel you unless you return the phone. Id you don't they will charge you for the full price plus who knows what else. If your parents can unlock their phones through art and they can be used on tmobiles service is do that and save some money. Or have them sell their att phones to help with the downpayme t of the sgs3. Just some advice.

hmmm but that doiesnt sound right to me...we all just left att and cancelled our contracts and went to tmobile.. and we all bought our phones at best buy, my father in may of last year, and me and my mom in february, and we just had to pay the cancellation fees, are you saying that tmobile is different? I mean, maybe they wont let me cancel untill after the 14 days... or maybe they wont prorate and make me pay for the full month... but youre saying theyll make me pay for the full retail? AND the cancellation fee??

Sorry. I guess I made you confused. I meant if you were to cancel within the 14 days you'd have to return the phone for a full refund. After the 14 days you can cancel and keep whatever phones you got. Now if you were to choose the value plans and get on the eip for 20 months and then cancelled after 14 days, ypud he billed for the remaining payments that are left on your bill. I hope that helps. If not maybe I read your question wrong.

Even if you cancel your account on the value plan, you're going to end up paying the full price of the phone no matter what.
They're going to just overlook the remaining fees on a 500+ dollar device.
monkeypaws had the best solutions for you.
Unlock the devices so you can use them on T-Mobile.
Or sell them, they should fetch around $200 on Craigslist depending on the condition and accessories. Or possibly more on eBay.
You would easily be able to pay the down payment on the GS3's with that.
If your dad thinks that the down payment is too much, then i'd recommend waiting it out for a little while.
T-Mobile may have a random sale and you'll be able to get the GS3 for cheap(er).
I remember doing that and being able to pick up a GS3 for something like $99.

When I said cancel I meant to sign up for a regular plan, and cancel and pay the early termination fee, not a value plan. But it doesnt seem like itll work anyway... if you cancel, then you need to pay the early termination fee and the full retail of the phone, each months payment towards your plan pays offsome of it so after like 10 months maybe itll be paid off... but I woukdnt be able to just cancel....

Sorry for my misunderstanding.
What you're saying is true.
So, at this point, what are you planning to do?
I'll ask my friend if it's possible he works for tmobile I'm sure he would know

On any carrier, if you cancel your contract, you must pay full retail for your phone if not already paid off. Even on regular plans that aren't value plans. If people could do what you want to do, think about it, nobody would ever buy a phone on Craig's list and would buy the phone and sign the contract then immediately cancel. You pay less for a phone on contact because in your monthly payments you are paying off the phone. Yes even on the classic plan. That's why your monthly bills are more then the value pan.
If he wants the s3 then he well either need to pay full retail for it or you could get it on cl. I know in my area they go for 400+

Yay I love fraud.
To me, what you're suggesting is like taking a crap on your friend's porch and smearing it all over.
Even if you could "get away with it" - do you think they're going to want to be your friend any more ? T-Mobile can make notes in your account - and they're going to know where that phone went. They could possibly take legal action against you if they really wanted to be spiteful (which, really, would be pretty fair if they found a way), or they could block the IMEI from their network - very simple for them and fraud seems to be the #1 reason they do so.
Sure, it might work out fine and the phone might continue to work - but is that really how you want to treat a company you want to continue to have a business relationship with ?
I guess it really comes down to if you're willing to basically steal - this isn't copying a file, it's manipulating your way to getting a piece of hardware by making a promise you never intended to keep. You'd basically be on the level of the dudes who bury $10 monthly charges in the T&C of sign ups and conveniently don't mention it anywhere else.
Just sell the S2 and get an S3. You'll likely end up paying less out of pocket even if you get the S3 new.
The day after celebrating what we are thankful for and I get up and read this nonsense. Sigh...
If you can't afford the phone, don't buy it. Pretty simple. Be thankful you have an old phone.

Id get angry at you but I guess my op wasn't very clear. I'm nit trying to get away with anything. Im not trying to steal a phone. What I was asking is, just like I am legally entitled to sign up for a contract and then cancel it and pay a 200 etf, or to cancel within 14 days and psy an early re stocking fee, would this be allowed as well. Because normally you wouldnt come out on top because on other carriers, the tef is alot more, most of the time expensive phones are alot even when you sign a contract and they msy make you psy for a month of service. I was just asking if they would allow you to keep the phone. You guys are just way to quick to blow up at me. Seriously. Anyway, the answer is no, so I bought him the phone with eip and its actually only 100 down now because of a sale. So, thanks everyone
This is exactly why regular customers like me who are looking to upgrade have to pay up front and then do mail in rebates, or even pay deposits...because they have to be cautious of people like you trying to cheat the system...just buy on on craigslist or something or why not just rob some random stranger since that is exactly the same thing...why not they have insurance right?.....jeez posts like this should probably be banned like cracked app threads are.

I read that, I was just pointing out the wrongness of it. I'm not trying to defend the carriers but this is supposedly why they pull that sorta stuff and it is easy enough to believe when I see posts like this. Anyways no getting around it really, you can probably find a way to cheat the system but you get burned too. Plus don't they block the IMEI?
Maybe I misunderstood the OP, but if he was asking if he could start a contract, wait 14 days, cancel it, pay the ETF, and keep the phone, I don't see the problem. That's exactly the point of the ETF... so long as he pays it he hasn't done anything wrong as far as I can tell?
-Sent from my GS3 running CM10.-
Yes it will work. You have to wait til the return grace period is over before you cancel the contract. It's 14 or 30 days depends on where you live and where you get the phone from. Avoid getting phones with mail in rebates.
As long as you pay the ETF you are fulfilling your part of the contract
