I wanted to find if anyone has tried RC2 of CM7 for EVO and everything is working in it including GPS, 4G and Wifi.
Is the rom pretty stable for daily use . Any instructions will help on how to flash the new ROM also.
RC4 Just got released. I would use that over RC2. I am running Destroyer V2 which is a themed version of CM7 and it has bee nothing but good to me. If you want to flash that let me know and I'l help you get it running.
Everything you need should be working. It might take a little effort to get GPS running, but everything else your are asking about is fine.
If you flash it and are having trouble just search for the GPS fix or ##gpsclrx# and you should be able to find TONs of posts detailing how to fix it (works for most people, but not all).
As for flashing ROMs in general, read this and that should help you out a lot:
http://noobgui.de/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page
Yes , I have to have 4G, GPS working as I use it everyday. I rather wait for stable version of GB instead of having GPS not working.
Are there instructions where after rooting it automatically flashes the GB rom.
Did you had any issues with using Pandora or Sirius XM after flashing ?
I don't really use Pandora anymore, so I can't help you with that. The link I posted should cover flashing ROMs, I don't know of anyway to "automatically" flash a ROM after rooting, but it's not hard to do.
I have flashed TONS of GB ROMs and only had problems with GPS one time and the GPS fix cleared it up and RC4 is supposed to have some changes to make it even better. I would try it out if I were you, if it doesn't work, you can always go back.
Read the stickies in the forum. You would flash it like any other rom. Put the rom on root of your sd card, go into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache, make a nandroid backup, go back to wipe menu, wipe data, cache, and dalvik. Use flash zip from sd card option in recovery (still)..flash calks wipe all zip. Go back to 'flash zip from.sd card' menu in recovery (still), and select the rom zip you put on root of sd card.
I just tried CM7 themed by zone23. Was pretty nice, but I prefer sense, really. Only thing I do a little different when flashing an aosp rom, is I flash an aosp kernel before I flash the rom. I doubt others do this, and it is unnecessary (afaik). I just do it for peace of mind.
Have fun.

So i just did the 3 step root and im at the clockwork mod recovery screen
There is different stuff to choose and i have no clue what to select?
Can someone please direct me to what to do next this is my first android phone and i have no idea how to load a rom or what i should be doing next
thanks in advance
Well are you hoping to flash a custom ROM? If so, you'll need to download the ROM and copy it to the root of your SD card. Then when you boot to recovery, choose the options to wipe data, wipe cache, and then install a zip from SD. If you want to back up your phone, choose the Nandroid option.
You got pretty far without knowing how to complete your journey.
so if i click nandroid that will back up what my phone is set at now?
what is a good custom rom to use ?
I would like to have wifi tether but do not have 4g and probly wouldnt use it very often, i read something that there was a stock rooted rom? I also do not want to lose my camera?
Start here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Evo_ROMs
Then just read up on the dev pages/threads for the popular ROMs. I use Fresh 1.0.1 with the netarchy 3.7.3c Fresh-compatible kernel (haven't switched to the new one that just came out today). Camera works great, wifi tether app is built-in. If you want that, download both (just search here), put them on your SD card, reboot to recovery, and flash the ROM, then the kernel. You don't have to flash a new kernel or even radio if you don't want to, but everything is installed the same. Usually reading a couple of pages for each ROM will tell you if there are an problems. Other options are the stock rooted ROM, DamageControl, Baked snack, or there are a couple of new ones for Froyo as well, but they have some features left out (like 4G, wifi, MMS . . . depends on the ROM).
Nandroid (or, inside Android, ROM Manager) will make a system image for you, saving everything exactly as it is. To restore, boot to recovery and choose the correct options for that. Should be pretty self-explanatory.
Always wipe data and cache before flashing, and it's a good idea to search Google for Cyanogen's recommendations for recalibrating your battery (it's on his wiki). Just don't flash a stock, non-rooted ROM or any OTA updates that Sprint tries to push on you. Always get something that the devs here say is safe for rooted phones.
Hope that clears some things up for you.
I haven't found any solution with this. About 3 or 4 weeks ago my Evo went crazy so I rebooted and was missing many apps. I did a nand to another sense rom and every time I tried to install an app (either download or from sd card) it would reboot. The odd thing is, it only does it with sense roms. I can use CM 6 or 7 fine and install whatever I want. I was originally one Myn's rls5, I also tried the Fresh roms. I have non clue what's causing this, tried googling and all said clear the market cache or try an older market, which I've done both. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
tricky one. have you tried flashing a stock sense rom, and seeing how things work for you there?
Don't use a backup. Flash a sense ROM and install everything manually.

I haven't tried a stock rom yet, once I get things back up I'll find one and try it.

I can't install anything. period. as soon as I try to install any apk from my sd card or anything from the market that doesn't come installed in the rom, as soon as it "finishes" the installation part it will reboot, but not a full reboot, it will go out to the boot screen (but not all the way to the htc screen).
Since going from AOSP to Sense what was your procedure for flashing? Just want to make sure your starting with a clean slate.
- What steps to you take?
- Full wipe? Data, cache, sd-ext?
- SD format?
The more info you can give the better and maybe we can help you track it down.
Ive done the standard full wipe, data, cache, dalvik. I do that everytime between roms. Not sure what the ext does and in haven't formatted my sd card since then

Update - I flashed the stock rooted 3.70 and was able to install. This was after formatting my sd card. Then tried to flash Myn's rls5 again and had the same problems as before. Only difference is with the 3.70 I forgot the flash the radios, but still had a fine signal. I flashed the radio updates with Myn's. Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.
At this point all I can think of doing is unrooting your device and getting it completely back to stock, then try re-rooting and make a nandroid of your rooted, stock sense rom.
Maybe you can root through a different methods than what you did originally.
After that, try another sense rom, make sure the md5 checks out too.

What recovery are you using and what version? I thought there were known issues with ClockWork 3.x.x.x version of recovery not wiping cache correctly? If you are using ClockWork you might want to try switching to Amon_RA 2.2.1. to see what happens. There is also a zip floating around (which I have attached) that can be used to wipe everything, you may want to give that a shot then reinstall the ROM. I have not used this zip, so use it at your own risk as I cannot guarantee the results. I have read about others using this and it working just fine.
my first rom was evervolv for droid incredible. i decided to go with magnolia rom.. it all worked up to getting to the lock screen after flashing it. the lock screen wouldnt read my touch.. and i switched back to evervolv. it worked after i did. then i decided to go with Warm Z TwoPointTwo... and it did it again.. i'm getting sick of the same ole same old and i need help.. anyone have suggestions to fix this mess so i can get the roms i want???
Are you saying when you flash a different ROM, the touchscreen is not working, and if so, are you running the kernel that comes with the ROM, or something other before first boot?
Are you fully wiping data/cache/dalvik prior to flashing the other ROMs?
Do you have ample space on your SD card?
make sure you clear data/cache/dalvik and all that jazz.
you can also try flashing a new kernel in recovery, that might do something...
yeah i flashed a different rom to my phone and then it messes up.. the screen doesnt read my touch.. i restored my evervolv for it and it works fine again.. but i dont know how to flash a "kernel" that would work with the rom i want.. doesnt that come with a new custom rom?? and what is dalvik? i just press factory reset or whatever..

Dalvik is under the advanced tab in recovery. I do data, cache, dalvik before flashing a new row. I do cache, dalvik, battery(also under advanced) before flashing kernel. Dl krnel to root of sd card, flash in recovery like rom. I nvr use rom mgr for flashing anymore. Make sure u use sense kernel for sense rom, aosp kernel for aosp roms. Couple of good threads on kernels. Chads kernels work great for my phone, but its preference. Any problems just use the search function on xda, cant find answer then just ask. Good luck.
yes, i am one who likes to flash then flush
This sounds like the same issue you would get with a kernal that is not compatable with a rom. or a theme/mod ment for a different rom. I run evervolv myself and if I try anything else i need to clear/factory reset everything before i flash
i'm very grateful for your guys help. but.. i just ran into that same fix again. i flashed another kernel so i could run the rom i want and it still did it.. so i need to know the kernels that are compatible with roms.. specifically the one i want. (right now its Warm Z TwoPointTwo) but if there is a thread with this info i will try and find it. and also do i flash the kernel for the rom after i flash the rom or do i flash the rom then boot up then go to recovery and apply the kernel.. i'm sorry if i'm sounding too noobish.. i'm learning. very slowly lol
You are flashing Sense kernel with Sense ROM, yes? The kernel is flashed AFTER the ROM install.

Hi, so I'm super green but itching to load custom kernel and rom... So my Evo is rooted and have seen some pretty sweet roms, lol, kinda scared to flash and not sure what roms go with what kernals, do I even need a new kernal? What I really want is a kernal I can overclock to 1198mhz, and a rom build based on honeycomb and or gingerbread that is 100% stable or as close as I can get... Help? Lol...

hahah exited aren't you... welcome to the root world!
you asked for hc/gb. google hasnt released hc source code yet, probably not until ice cream, so there is none of that. you can however download cyanogen(mod) 7, which is almost totally stable.
http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=supersonic
there's the mirror link. download either rls4 or nightly 33. nightly 33 is a bit funky bcuz cyanogen is pulling an april fools prank saying he sold cm to teh duck revolution, and the rom is now called 'teh duck uber distro'. so maybe rls4 or just wait for the next nightly.
everything works. 4g (with one bug that there is an annoying fix for), hdmi (download hdmwin from the market) gps (with a fix) and everything else is perfect. it is still in beta/nightly stages, but should be done soon. it is my daily driver, as well as many other peoples. this rom is crazzzy popular. try it for sure.
start with stock kernel, but i'd try both savaged-zen and tiamat kernels on it. they will both give you much better battery. tiamat tends to give slightly better performance/quickness but savaged-zen (on custom SAVAGEZEN governer) gives fantastic battery. try them both!!!
again, welcome to the community. hope this helps.
Where do I get the kernals? And what process do I use? I have clockwork premium... I just don't wanna miss a step a jack myself
Also, is it gonna wipe my phone, do I need to wipe it? No issues with that though as I do it all the time... And thank you so much for the feedback BTW, still a little confused...

ok, first of all, clockworkmod isn't the recovery you want to be using. download amon-ra's recovery here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026 make sure you get the pc36img.zip. put the pc36img.zip on the root of your sdcard (that means not in any folders) MAKING SURE IT IS NAMED EXACTLY PC36IMG.ZIP. aka just dont rename it. then power off your phone, and once it is off, hold power and volume down. you will see a white screen with scateboarding droids at the bottom. this is your BOOTLOADER SCREEN also known as hboot, and you see it quite often. so hboot will scan your sdcard, and find the pc36img.zip. hit volume up to accept the 'update'. then once it is done, volume up again to reboot.
you can download kernels from the evo android development subforum right here at the xda.
so first flash your rom. you can either boot up into it, or just flash the kernel right away. flash the kernel just like you would a rom, but without wiping.
enjoy.
any other questions, ask away.

100% agree. Amon Ra imo is the much more stable & user friendly recovery
Alright, so, can I do all this just from my phone? Is a pc recommended? Will my stock kernal overclock? Never flashed a rom before, I'm an electronic/computer tech so I pick up shniz pretty quick but still don't wanna b---- this sucker...

you can do it all from your phone if you want. i perfer downloading on my pc and transferring from there in case i want to modify anything, but you can always just dload on phone. make sure the pc36img.zip isnt in download folder or anything if you do. it needs to be on the root. your stock kernel can't overclock sadly. if you have never flashed a rom before, then cm7 will be crazy different than stock rom. most custom rom's are based off the stock htc software, just modded. cm7 is aosp, which means it is stock GOOGLE software. htc spends quite a few months modifying htc sense into google software, so the speed and memory increase is very noticable. just wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache when switching roms. you might want to backup your apps and their data using titanium backup. just dont backup system data, that can cause problems. then flash the rom after wiping, flash any kernel or addons you want (dont forget to flash gapps if it is an aosp rom, bcuz if you dont u wont have the market or anything) and reboot. for any other mods you install after that on the same rom, just wipe cache and dalvik cache and then flash away. wiping data between roms is always reccomended. if you want to stick with the cm7 nightlys, then all you need to wipe is cache and dalvik. there is never much of a problem with just flashing one over the other without a data wipe.
and forgot to mention, you cant control amon-ra recovery with rom manager. but then again, rom manager is just a touch screen version of recovery. you get used to the volume/power keys pretty quickly.
ok, im freaking out now, my phone is locked in the cm little surfer droid with the arrow circling around been constantly running for about 45 mins, im fuct, really fuct without my phone!!! its my only internet too!!! PLEASE HELP!!!
Did you do a factory wipe, Clear the cache & wipe Dalvik?
Sounds like it just wasn't a good install. Do the above in recovery & reinstall your ROM
ya did you wipe? doesnt sound like it. make sure data, cache, and dalvik cache are all wiped successfully. also make sure you are using amon-ra recovery. cwm can sometimes give you problems.
I've flashed 3-4 ROMs on my Dinc2. (Magnolia, IC Tazz, Skyraider, ViperINC). I've done the wipe cache/davlik/format before each flash. After testing each ROM, I decided on Magnolia, and did a full superduperwipe via Chillybean's AntiVenom. With each ROM flash I've noticed things being different and outright missing. For example, YouTube may or may not be there after flash.
Is this normal? I've tried formatting with ext3 and ext4, noticing no speed or function different... but could this have something to do with it?
I'm still sorta new at this flashing thing. If there's something I'm missing or doing wrong, I'm open to ALL suggestions.
My phone is a Verizon Dinc2, radio is 320, and my recovery is 4EXT.

Some Deva just won't put it in their Roms. Most the apps just need to be redowbliaded from the market.
Sent from a phone HTC forgot. Right now its running Chilly powered PAC n a lil NOS jus for fun.
Thanks but that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying I can load the same ROM from the same file and there be different apps or features each time I flash it.

Then you probably aren't doing a full wipe, assuming the rom isn't an aroma installed rom and you choose different features.
yes, they are Aroma installed, using EXT4 as my recovery. I'm talking about (specifically) Magnolia and ViperINC. I've noticed different apps being loaded with each flash. I use Chilly's AntiVenom wiper, then let the ROM do another wipe of it's own choosing. It's just weird, I thought I'd ask if anyone else ever had the same experience.
...
*facepalm

Hi Friend,
Best way to overcome this is to install Titanium Backup from play store and take a full backup of your apps+data and you can restore the same after flashing new rom.
Regarding youtube you can flash GAPPS from this link goo.im/gapps (install according to your android version)

Um, if you're flashing sense roms, don't flash gapps... Those are specifically for aosp, cm base and aokp roms.
