Not sure what happened, but this morning after charging my phone, I turned it on and got force closes on half of my programs. The phone isn't seeing the SD card or the photos/videos on the internal memory (I stupidly didn't switch the setting to store photos/videos on the SD card). I'm trying to put the photos/videos on my computer before doing a factory reset, but when I connect to the PC via USB, only the SD card mounts. The internal memory drive shows up, but it tells me to insert a disk. I've tried setting it to charge on default and then switching to mount as disk drive, but it still won't register the internal memory. Any suggestions or is the data completely lost? Thanks.

I am running bakedsnack 1.5, I also have a theme.
This problem started back before I was rooted.
First sign of issues was when I would move a app to the SD card it would give me a error, can't remember the error something like SD card unreachable. I would then hit move to SD card again and it would move.
Today I lost all my apps that were mounting on the SD card.
I can view the SD card with astro viewer.
My phone will charge when plugged into a computer and I can use adb to connect to the phone.
I can download from the market but it gets stuck on installing
One more thing, when i try to unmount my card in settings -> SD & phone storage -> unmount SD card it gives me a error and "Activity SD & phone storage (in application settings) is not responding"
Does anyone have any ideas what might be going on, bad SD card?
I did a search and nothing here really applies.
Thanks for helping a newbie
That happened to me one time when I used the safely remove USB device option in Windows. To fix it, with the phone connected to PC via USB, boot into recovery. There would be an option for USB-MS (USB Mass Storage) - toggle that on. Once you see Windows recognize your sd card as removable storage, toggle USB-MS off.
So it's possible I might just be dumb and screwed up, but I think I might have reformatted something that I didn't mean to reformat.
I wanted to wipe my SD card because I found that there were random pics appearing in my gallery of people I've never seen before in my life (got the phone second hand but popped the SD card in that I used with my old Fascinate). Opening up My Computer, there were two different removable discs that were the SD card inside my phone and what I now presume to be internal storage. I backed up everything I wanted and wiped both the SD card and the other storage device via my laptop.
Here is the problem. Whenever I boot the phone up, there is a notification that says my SD card is either blank or not in a compatible format... It asks if I want to format it, I click OK, and everything seems fine... Until I have to reboot the phone and it does the same thing all over again. This is getting to be an annoyance because I don't want to keep deleting everything on my SD card whenever I reboot my phone.
Can anybody help me fix this?
Okay I definitely did something to the internal storage. I tried taking my SD card out and rebooting it and I am still getting the blank SD card notification. It won't let me format it. What do I do?
Try connecting the sdcard to your computer through a usb adapter, or any alternative to using the phone's USB-mount. Format it with FAT32. Put it back in your phone and see if it works. If not, you might have a corrupt sdcard. Try a different one if available.
What directory were the pictures appearing in? It's possible they were cached from the browser or some social app.
My computer recognizes both the internal storage and external sd card when plugged in. Windows media player, does not. It'll only find the internal storage device on the SIII, but not the external storage. I was able to sync to External sd card whenever I formatted it. Ultimately I can keep doing that, but it seems like a hassle to drop important files onto desktop, format, sync, and re-drag those files back on. Any of you willing to lend ideas of how to avoid that?
Hello,
I recently recovered some photos from my external SD card some stuff accidently deleted and I used a recovery tool to get them back, and put them back into the external SD Card, but whenever I put the card in the phone, and go into gallery none of the pictures show up, they show up on the computer just fine. When I plug the USB into the phone, and go into the SD Card drive, it doesn't show my pictures either, it only seems to show it when I put it in a separate microSD card adapter. I tried multiple reboots on phone, and still no luck. What could be the issue here? Thanks.
I’m trying out my new Sony Xperia Z1C.
And there are some things I have questions about
Before I had a HTC One and I could connect it by cable to my audio equipment in my car (BMW 3 F series). This worked because the BMW can read MTP devices.
Connecting the Sony the first time it took ages before it was ready and then only the contents of the internal memory were shown.
When starting mirrorlink on the phone made it unusable in the car.
With a task manager I could remove the mirrorlink background task, is there no other way to stop that background task?
But the problem remained, it could connect but nothing of the SD card was shown.
So I switched to Mass storage and tried to connect again.
This was a lot faster but only four directories were shown.
I copied files on the sd card directly from my pc and not through the phone connection,
so I reformatted the card
and copied files to it through the phone connected to the pc. Copying then failed on .m3u files (why , the phone cannot do anything with them so why not copying?),
so I skipped all those files and
mounted the sd card once more as mass storage,
and now the car audio can see all of the directories. Now I know how to copy mp3 files but it is still a strange way of working, copying to the SD card directly works so much faster.
Mounting the SD card as MTP has almost the same result as before, it reads the card a lot faster now but it still does not show content of the sd.
Can anybody explain me what the correct way of working is,
is MTP only for internal memory (when connecting to the pc on MTP I can see both sdcard0 (internal memory) as sdcard1 (sd card )?
What about killing background tasks such as mirrorlink, how to proceed?
What about copying files to the SDCard, from the pc to the card or from the pc through the phone and then to the card?
Are not all filetypes supported on the card?, I think my initial problem was related to the M3U files.
no time to get into details but i know 2 things
MTP mounts the phones internal memory plus the external sd card
mass storage mounts only the sd card like any other mass storage device
and yes, MTP is slower compared to the mass storage.
