[Q] Quadrant 3D Error - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey been having this issue recently with my G2 where i run the quadrant test where when it gets to the 3D part of the test it runs. Shows FPS but but screen is blank. It doesnt show the 3D planet test and the corridor/doom style test. The screen is just black. But if finishes the test and gives me a pretty good score. But idk why it doesnt show the bench properly. Tried dif CM builds and nightlys. All CM 7. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

I've never been told this but I'm quite sure its a bug. Started to happen to me when CM7 RC1 came out and hasn't changed. Oh well it still gives you the proper score though

Yes it was a earlier bug but I thought they had fixed it. My quad works fine now on cm7 RC2 with the g2 fast kernel..

I only started seeing this issue on build 30 or 31 I can't remember exactly but when I was on older cm7 nightlites no problems with it

psx4droid problems

similar threads didnt show psx4droid problems with htc desire so i decided to make a new one
any ideas why it isnt working for me?
running on the Oxygen v2.0-RC5 (Gingerbread RC)
downloaded psx4droidlite from the market, downloaded the scph1001.bin, then finally the rom. it just blacks out then returns to the "select rom" menu. if it matters, the rom i tried out first was Digimon World. it failed, then i tried a different one, Final Fantasy Tactics. it failed again but i decided to download a different one but the same game now it's Final Fantasy Tactics.img instead of .bin, still not working.
Think i've heard some talk about the 3D in the Gingerbread rom not being totally done yet, or there are some missing drivers, maybe that's why? Though am not 100% sure on what i say here is true.
Doesnt work on my RC5 either so im guessing its the roms fault
psx4droid
Are you trying only one game maybe its not supported, rooted stock rom it works perfectly for me
I'm using rcmix HSBC custom Rom and I'm having no problems running roms in bin, img and eboot (psp format) the only one that is a bit buggy is metal gear solid. I'm using psx4droid V2.9...........sudeki300

I've been having tons of slowdown issues with my PSX4DROID V2. I have not rooted my Epic 4G as of yet and if that is the issue then I will try but running stock, all games run slow as paint drying lol but the sound is pretty spot on. But when I try them on the PSX4DROID Lite version all the games run GREAT but the sound is horrid and no saving ability. If you guys know anything please let me know
As far as I know it's a bug in Gingerbread because it wont work on my Desire Oxygen RC5, too. It was working in froyo. The app needs a fix.

[Q] cyanogenmod 7 rc1 or gingervillain 1.5?

i am currently running gingervillain on my g2. should i switch to cyanogenmod or stay?
Gingervillain all the way....its my rom of choice.
A Gingervillain-ized G2
I am on Ginger villain 1.5. Good choice.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
gingervillain 1.5 is quite good.
GingerVillan is basically CM 7. If it wasn't for the constant random reboots I would have stayed with Villan. Until that issue is resolved (hopefully when 2.0 releases) I think I'll stick with CM 7 rc 1 for now. Have had zero issues with it so far.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
i'd go with CM7. theres newer versions than RC1 so try em out. I had ginger villain but it lagged on me too much and had random reboots. :/ ginger villain is based of CM7 so i dont see why not to try CM7
Tried both and personally would just use Cyanogen's
Currently on the latest nightly but if you want more stability then use the Release candidate.
I'd say it's a matter of personal preference, but I love the stock Gingerbread feel of GingerVillain and didn't really want to deal with installing the stock launcher in CM7. I don't like ADWlauncher. I went to CM7 when it arrived and switched back to GV pretty quickly. I don't have random reboots or any other problems with GV, so if you do have problems, it might be worth switching to see if CM7 resolves them.
i have nothing but nice things to say about CM nightlies... #1-9 and #11. not one problem at all....
so for those of you on RC1 -- I think thats a bad spot to be in. seriously, the nightlies are smokin... i just cant vouch for any audio or telephony so there may be bugs there but Im happy as hell.
Seriously, u need to flash meXdroid GingerMex Habanero rom. Themes are outta control. Put ginger to shame
G2 with meXdroid GingerMex Habanero
GV. tried RC1 for a bit but the battery life was not as good and battery is important to me.I also prefer the cleaner feel of GV. ive always had bad battery life on Cyanogen so GV is the rom for me. random reboots were a huge issue for me but after i tried out RC1 and used the official CWR3.x instead of the beta random reboots are almost non existent

Is it easy to go from cm7 nightly #12 to GV 1.5? do I just wipe and then install CV?
GV for me as well and I can't wait for 2.0
What's the difference..what can you specifically do on gingervillian that you can not do on cyanogenmod?

Do a nandroid backup. Then flash through ROM manager. Wipe Data+Cache and install.

Not sure. Really haven't looked into GV but its based on CM7 so I'm not sure what it offers.

Currently there are only minor differences, but Gingervillain is based off of a CM7 nightly that released before RC1. Gingervillain is COMPLETELY stock, it doesn't come preinstalled with ADW launcher but the developer said they will be including more features to differentiate it from CM in the future.

[Q] Fast Boot for Evo

I have an Evo 4G running CM7 RC1 and I was wandering if there was a way to get fast boot similar to that of the Desire Z. There was a video of a Nexus One running CM 6.1.2 that was able to fast boot/hibernate but I cannot seem to find more on that. Please let me know. Or is there anyway to speed up the boot sequence it seems to take 1-2 minutes.

Scrolling choppiness issue found! Kernel Devs READ!

Hi all,
I have been really upset with the choppy scrolling performance on our phone. It is a bug Supercurio found immediately upon using our phone and one sadly no dev has fully fixed yet.
Well, good news. I've been testing a ton of different ROMs and kernels and I have found that the Skyrocket kernels are PERFECTLY smooth in scrolling. Why? I do not know.
I tested Da_G's CM7 kernel with my T-mobile SGS2 and it worked. Now, not only did it work but it works perfectly. Everything works including data (4G), calls, etc. There is only 1 bug and that is because it is a Skyrocket kernel---Automatic orientation (if you turn it on) is exactly 90 degrees off. Easy fix though I think.
Other tested ROMS and Kernels:
Kernels:
Bullet (all versions)---very choppy but amazing on battery
Synergy (all versions)---very choppy but also really good on battery
Faux123's kernels---Newest version of Faux's kernel incorporates Skyrocket drivers and FIXES the 2D choppiness. Currently it is the only T989 kernel to be fully smooth
Mr.X CM7's kernel---choppy but amazing battery and 2D Quadrant scores (I got 760s with it)
Da_G's Skyrocket CM7 kernel---BUTTER smooth, everything except Auto-rotation works despite being a Skyrocket kernel
ROMS:
Stock 2.3.5---VERY choppy
Stock 2.3.6---Slightly less choppy but still pretty choppy
Juggernaut 4.0, 3.7, 3.5---ALL pretty choppy, 4.0 is likely the best since its based on 2.3.6
Beastmod 4.0, 4.2---ALL pretty choppy
Domination 2.0---EXTREMELY choppy...I don't know why even since it's 2.3.6 but my testing proved it was one of the worst in scrolling choppiness
CM7 by slayher (for T-Mo SGS2)--Butter at times and choppy at others.
CM7 for Skyrocket (Alpha 4)---Choppy if T989 kernel is used, BUTTER if Skyrocket kernel (Da_G's kernel) is used.
I believe ROMS have little effect on the choppiness. They do contribute a tiny amount but I do believe the kernels are what dictate whether scrolling is smooth or not.
Moral of the story, T-mo SGS2 Kernel devs, please either build from the source for Skyrocket or see what that kernel has that is different from ours because it is MUCH MUCH SMOOTHER than any of our kernels.
Cause us skyrockets users are raw haha but ill try and see how to fix your guys rotation problem. Busy trying to build a new cm7 miui and AOSP with members for the skyrocket

If you could port Da_G's kernel by incorporating a 90-degree Auto-rotation fix, it would be bomb. Everything else works and it is sooo smooth.
Would you mind linking to the exact kernel you used? I never use auto-rotate & I'm dying to get rid of this choppiness.
Certainly. Make sure you are running CM7 though.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398512
Use the AT&T CM7 v4 version. Get into Clockwork, flash, and reboot. It doesn't have a boot logo, don't be alarmed.
I certainly am Which version did you use though, AT&T or Rogers?
AT&T like I said in my post above.
Ah... derp, I'm special. Thanks.

Hello fellow Colorado-an!
Just to clarify- the moral of your post is: using the Skyrocket's CM7 ROM & Da_G's Skyrocket kernel on the T989 you have 0 choppiness?
I'm just unsure of which ROM you're using (ours or Skyrocket's)
Thanks.
Correct. Use the Skyrocket CM7 or ours (doesn't matter but ours has more bugs. The Skyrocket CM7 with that kernel has NO bugs if you keep the GPS on).

Yep, true, somehow, GPS on our kernel keeps audio working and no bugs, dunno how, but don't ask me.
Also, the orientation thing is because our accelerometer is flipped upside down, that's why it flipped differently for you.
I'll ask Da_G if he can revert the fix he did in the kernel, then upload a version for you guys, since our kernels seem to work better for you.
Also, if someone doesn't mind, flash a T-Mo ROM, then a Skyrocket kernel (don't worry, I've flashed T-Mo SGS II kernels before, only thing that breaks is the rotation), and see if that fixes any 2D lag you have.
Wait- we can flash the skyrocket version of cm7? Like without modifying it of anything?
Hmm glad this ROM & kernel combo is working for you!
I myself have used several of the roms and kernels you mentioned also and have found that the stock rooted Telus T989D ROM by Mr X + the synergy kernel are not only the fastest imo, but I get 0 choppiness and almost 2 days of battery life on normal to heavy usage.

Ok sorry for my noobishness, I had no idea..don't really use cm7. I just flashed dagkernal .42 on gingersnap 0.3. Its amazingly smooth but I had to turn off auto rotation because its working backwards. Which is a kernel with good battery life and is smooth on skyrocket?

I think all the Skyrocket kernels are going to result in rotation issues. I flashed a Skyrocket rom and one of our kernels and it works fine.

Just tried the dag 4.2 rogers kernel with juggernaut 4.1 and I can really notice a difference.. not that benchmark's matter, but I'm got 7154 on AnTuTu on the first try clocked at 1.78 and getting 4600+ on quadrant at the same clock lol
Let's see how the battery is on this tho. Jug 3.7 + bullet 2.9 was giving me amazinggg battery life but last night i went to sleep with it being 45% and woke up with 5% lol maybe the governor changed to performance or something idk
EDIT - After around 20 mins of use, I can confidently say that my phone is now BUUTTTEEERYYYY smooth I used to get lag/stutter during screen transitions and everything, now I'm using the Sphere effect on Go Launcher (one of the ones that usually cause the most stutter) and it couldn't be any more buttery smooth lol
Thanks for finding this The only issue is the auto-rotation but once that's fixed, this will be amazing lol

LAGGY, LAGGY EVO! ROM recommendations?

Hey all.
I am currently using the Synergy non-god mode rom and hate it.
It keeps freezing and takes forever to populate the icons. I litearlly just look at a blank home screen for what seems to take forever and it drives me nuts.
I want a new ROM!
I see some newer ones out there plus the new WARM
I KNOW THAT THIS IS A VERY VAGUE QUESTION...BUT what is "the rom" that people are using.
I want something that will not take forever to get my icons on the homescreen! I guess the term is snappy.
I tend to like the HTC sense...used to that.
I would be happy with Synergy, but it just is not that stable for me.
Thanks
Mike

None that I have experienced. Mik puts out some solid stuff.
Warm put out a TwoPointThree which is great... but new and has some bugs.
What are you looking for? I mean we can give solid recommendations... just need to know what you are looking for... Like:
is 4G/Wimax a must have?
Is Sense ROM a must have?
Does it need to be tested and solid or are you willing to try newer stuff?
EDIT: Also if you like the ROM you are on, you can try the COD tweak and see if it helps... http://vaelek.com/index.php/topic/1...sonic-tweaking-guide-v102-120411/page__st__40
Swagged Out Stock is pretty good, I'm having better luck with that then MikG actually.
The classic by tommytomatoe
THANKS
Thanks for all the recommendations.
What I am looking for...I don't know if I am looking for the PERFECT ROM or what.
but, what I am seeking is a good, stable snappy rom that doesn't lag like my synergy. Must have 4g and working camera.
I don't care if there is a carousel or anything like that.
I am willing to try new, I see a bunch of ICS Roms, but no camera or video. Deal killers.
I really do like Sense a lot, mostly cause of be being able to dial a number by dialing the name.
I guess I am mostly looking for stability and one that won't lag. When I flick the unlock ring, my synergy just freezes and I get frustrated waiting for it to work. Lots of battery pulls....
Oh yeah...good battery too.
Am I asking for the moon?
Thanks!
Mike
PS.
I tried that tweeking guide a few months ago. Not sure if I did it correctly, but no difference.
You want one of these:
Mikg from MikMik @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038967
or
Evo Classic from tommytomato @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312414
I have run both and they are great and meet your requirements . I am partial to Mik's as I keep returning to MikG when my "must have new ROM" itch dissipates
I was on MikG v3.0 for a few weeks and loved it. Ran great with Chopsuey. Then I got a little bored and heard good things about Tommytomatoe's Classic. I tried the v0.0.5 with More Freedom kernel and I'm getting the best battery life I have ever had and the sdcard loads very quickly and icons come up real fast after rebooting. Also am running the v6 script.

Try a Sense 1.0 ROM based off of the latest OTA. There are a TON to choose from now-a-days. The best in my opinion is def tommytomatoe's EVO Classic. I'm always chasin' him in the features department. But obviously I'm going to plug my Swagged Out Stock as well.
But just search "4.54 ROM" and you will find a BUNCH to choose from.
Good luck!
P.S.: I recommend these because they are all 100% stable!
Did it always run slow or did it used to be quick and just now running like crap? The reason I ask is because you can have things on your phone, besides your ROM, that make the phone come to a crawl. Too many text messages, too many apps on your phone, too much data/cache, etc. Try reloading the ROM or deleting all the crap on your phone before ditching a perfectly good ROM for another.
+1 on mikg 3.0. I ran the alpha 5 evo deck ICS rom. has camera, calendar working. random FC and no sprint voicemail, had to use google voice.
MIKG!!!!!
I think ur lookin for CM7 or Decks rom. In my opinion after a while ur gonna get lag on sense no matter what. U need a AOSP rom they have less lag for sure. I like MIUI but it doesnt have 4G. So i would go CM7 if i were you!

I feel like you aren't wiping your phone correctly. Synergy is a great and stable ROM (although I haven't used it in months) it shouldn't have the constant freezing and lag that you are receiving..make sure to wipe data/cache/dalvik/everything except for SD card.
just a suggestion..oh amon ra recovery works best imo since cwm is known to not format correctly.
Good luck with Rom choice

Currently using the new WARM, I'm loving it, my only problem with it is that the Rom is a little bulky, like 340mb if I'm not mistaken, so it pretty demanding on storage but other than that its great, got some pretty sweet extra's as well... And the battery life is amazing, I've been using it for about 17 hours while having WiFi on and and browsing every now and then, and battery is just above half, I'd recommend checking it out.
Ribbett, Ribbett, BANG!
I'm planning to stick with ICS (Jared's currently), however MiKG has always been great to me. It just works, and does a lot of little things that you get used to having (intuitive toggles, multiple usb options when plugged in, tweaks, native tethering (hotspot + wired), etc...).
So, if considering staying with GB, +1 for MikG, if wanting to play with ICS, you have 3 options that I know of currently but don't expect it to be as "polished" as a GB rom at this point in time.
I tried deck's alpha 5 ICS build, and the only problems I found with it was that for some reason (there have been hints given towards trebuche being the reason for this) the gallery app is very... touchy? I suppose that would be the word for it, it worked a couple of times, but for the most part it would load and either be a completely black screen or it would say that no sd card was present, which was a little nerve racking when I was attempting to flash another Rom. It scared me because I thought my phone was stuck on that Rom... But I fiddled with it a bit and was able to solve the problem, and from what I saw in his A5 Rom thread both problems had been reported, no clue if there has been a fix yet, but... given that its still in alpha stage, I'd say it's a pretty stable release, I had no issues with f/c or anything of the sort. Very little lag, great battery life, no random reboots.
Ribbet, Ribbett, BANG!
