Hi all,
I have been really upset with the choppy scrolling performance on our phone. It is a bug Supercurio found immediately upon using our phone and one sadly no dev has fully fixed yet.
Well, good news. I've been testing a ton of different ROMs and kernels and I have found that the Skyrocket kernels are PERFECTLY smooth in scrolling. Why? I do not know.
I tested Da_G's CM7 kernel with my T-mobile SGS2 and it worked. Now, not only did it work but it works perfectly. Everything works including data (4G), calls, etc. There is only 1 bug and that is because it is a Skyrocket kernel---Automatic orientation (if you turn it on) is exactly 90 degrees off. Easy fix though I think.
Other tested ROMS and Kernels:
Kernels:
Bullet (all versions)---very choppy but amazing on battery
Synergy (all versions)---very choppy but also really good on battery
Faux123's kernels---Newest version of Faux's kernel incorporates Skyrocket drivers and FIXES the 2D choppiness. Currently it is the only T989 kernel to be fully smooth
Mr.X CM7's kernel---choppy but amazing battery and 2D Quadrant scores (I got 760s with it)
Da_G's Skyrocket CM7 kernel---BUTTER smooth, everything except Auto-rotation works despite being a Skyrocket kernel
ROMS:
Stock 2.3.5---VERY choppy
Stock 2.3.6---Slightly less choppy but still pretty choppy
Juggernaut 4.0, 3.7, 3.5---ALL pretty choppy, 4.0 is likely the best since its based on 2.3.6
Beastmod 4.0, 4.2---ALL pretty choppy
Domination 2.0---EXTREMELY choppy...I don't know why even since it's 2.3.6 but my testing proved it was one of the worst in scrolling choppiness
CM7 by slayher (for T-Mo SGS2)--Butter at times and choppy at others.
CM7 for Skyrocket (Alpha 4)---Choppy if T989 kernel is used, BUTTER if Skyrocket kernel (Da_G's kernel) is used.
I believe ROMS have little effect on the choppiness. They do contribute a tiny amount but I do believe the kernels are what dictate whether scrolling is smooth or not.
Moral of the story, T-mo SGS2 Kernel devs, please either build from the source for Skyrocket or see what that kernel has that is different from ours because it is MUCH MUCH SMOOTHER than any of our kernels.
Cause us skyrockets users are raw haha but ill try and see how to fix your guys rotation problem. Busy trying to build a new cm7 miui and AOSP with members for the skyrocket

If you could port Da_G's kernel by incorporating a 90-degree Auto-rotation fix, it would be bomb. Everything else works and it is sooo smooth.
Would you mind linking to the exact kernel you used? I never use auto-rotate & I'm dying to get rid of this choppiness.
Certainly. Make sure you are running CM7 though.

Use the AT&T CM7 v4 version. Get into Clockwork, flash, and reboot. It doesn't have a boot logo, don't be alarmed.
I certainly am Which version did you use though, AT&T or Rogers?
AT&T like I said in my post above.
Ah... derp, I'm special. Thanks.

Hello fellow Colorado-an!
Just to clarify- the moral of your post is: using the Skyrocket's CM7 ROM & Da_G's Skyrocket kernel on the T989 you have 0 choppiness?
I'm just unsure of which ROM you're using (ours or Skyrocket's)
Thanks.
Correct. Use the Skyrocket CM7 or ours (doesn't matter but ours has more bugs. The Skyrocket CM7 with that kernel has NO bugs if you keep the GPS on).

Yep, true, somehow, GPS on our kernel keeps audio working and no bugs, dunno how, but don't ask me.
Also, the orientation thing is because our accelerometer is flipped upside down, that's why it flipped differently for you.
I'll ask Da_G if he can revert the fix he did in the kernel, then upload a version for you guys, since our kernels seem to work better for you.
Also, if someone doesn't mind, flash a T-Mo ROM, then a Skyrocket kernel (don't worry, I've flashed T-Mo SGS II kernels before, only thing that breaks is the rotation), and see if that fixes any 2D lag you have.
Wait- we can flash the skyrocket version of cm7? Like without modifying it of anything?
Hmm glad this ROM & kernel combo is working for you!
I myself have used several of the roms and kernels you mentioned also and have found that the stock rooted Telus T989D ROM by Mr X + the synergy kernel are not only the fastest imo, but I get 0 choppiness and almost 2 days of battery life on normal to heavy usage.

Ok sorry for my noobishness, I had no idea..don't really use cm7. I just flashed dagkernal .42 on gingersnap 0.3. Its amazingly smooth but I had to turn off auto rotation because its working backwards. Which is a kernel with good battery life and is smooth on skyrocket?

I think all the Skyrocket kernels are going to result in rotation issues. I flashed a Skyrocket rom and one of our kernels and it works fine.

Just tried the dag 4.2 rogers kernel with juggernaut 4.1 and I can really notice a difference.. not that benchmark's matter, but I'm got 7154 on AnTuTu on the first try clocked at 1.78 and getting 4600+ on quadrant at the same clock lol
Let's see how the battery is on this tho. Jug 3.7 + bullet 2.9 was giving me amazinggg battery life but last night i went to sleep with it being 45% and woke up with 5% lol maybe the governor changed to performance or something idk
EDIT - After around 20 mins of use, I can confidently say that my phone is now BUUTTTEEERYYYY smooth I used to get lag/stutter during screen transitions and everything, now I'm using the Sphere effect on Go Launcher (one of the ones that usually cause the most stutter) and it couldn't be any more buttery smooth lol
Thanks for finding this The only issue is the auto-rotation but once that's fixed, this will be amazing lol

I think it'd just be nice for everyone to just list what ROM, kernel and modem they are using. I always look through the threads and read that to get ideas of what will work. Well, what I run is in my sig and I absolutley have zero problems in the way I have set my phone up and how I use it.
I think maybe it is because I use a stock odexed rom and the modem that came with it - it may not be as fast as other roms, but it seems all custom roms are either are missing a software app that I need or have some glitch like BT or GPS not working etc.
So in the end, I may not have the latest and fastest, but I have stable with everything working phone - with that being said I did apply all the fix's that needed fixing, things like the "call log", TWS, etc. problems, but that is about it.
Wow, uuh...SRF 1.2, Urban Regen, and ERA ReVolt pretty much equally. They're all great. Kernel: ReVolt, Genocide 1.1 IAP and 2.0 and 2 that are still in the test phase. EC05 modem...love it. SetCPU 1400/100 On Demand no undervolt. No freezes, no soft reboots, no RAM leaks. Fast and stable...all 3. My setups are all geared toward performance and stability. Not the most battery friendly but I keep an extra stock battery with me.

AOKP is a great rom!
It is a great daily driver as is, but what the killer for me was that some apps don't run properly. I could live without a few but Temple Run and Instagram were two that didn't work for me with this rom. That was a deal breaker for me.
If those apps don't interest you than this rom is great!

Yeah AOKP is nice and smooth, the camera preview isn't working as it should, but very stable overall. And if you want to get into kernels, I recommend checking you the mason .14 kernel. it's a Work In Progress but it has been very stable for me, and you gotta love sbc.

Build 31 fixes that. In addition, to AOKP being so 'great' it plays nice, but for a lot of users, myself included, it gave a lot of random reboots for no reason, so just be warned / watch your phone to see if you get reboots.

I keep going back and forth between decks ics pb18 (most current) and aokp build 31
Decks seems to be very smooth, running tiamat sbc "lee" kernel. Problem with decks is it less feature-packed then aokp.
Aokp is also very smooth with a ton of great features, but even running mason sbc hwa fso kernel, its seems to be just a little bit slower than decks.
I'm going to try flashing the tiamat "lee" kernel on aokp b31 and see what response I get out of it.
If you are looking for features and stability: aokp, speed and stability: decks
UPDATE: flashed tiamat "LEE" kernel with aokp build 31 last night and although it works OK, there is some lag and some delay when opening apps, app drawer, etc. I will go back to Mason sbc hwa fso for this ROM. Tiamat seems best on decks pb18 which I also run.
I think speed will come with time on AOKP. Can someone expand on the COD tweaks (what they do, how to, goods and bads)

Thanks for the suggestion but it did not work I opened it up and it showed the controls at the bottom like normal but (not sure how to describe this) I could not see what the camera was seeing it just showed black. I took a picture and it showed down in the preview what should have been displayed on the screen.
Hope you guys can understand that
I bought a SGH-T989-D (telus version) and it came rooted with cyanogenmod installed. It was so fast and beautiful but it had many major bugs that made it unusable (call echo, battery life, caller id broken, random restarts). It's been about 4 months so I wanted to see what the most stable roms are.
I'm looking for a rom that is fast and close to stock ICS or maybe jellybean if that's out yet. I'm currently on touchwiz ics but it's not as smooth or snappy as the buggy rom the phone came with was.
Thanks in advance and sorry if this is noobish.

And my personal favorite AOKP 7/15 milestone 6

As for JB, there is good progress, but not a DD in my IMHO.

this question gets asked quite a bit and my opinion on the matter(since you asked) is bugs don't seem to pop up for everyone. If the phone you had had issues maybe it was just that version of CM. If you like CM then I would suggest trying a nightly, RC2 or AOKP.
There are different developers that have kanged CM as well so try that. Since what is a bug for one person is not necessarily a bug for others its a trial and error. Anyone can post a link and say this or that is the best but only your real world experience can determine if its your dd= daily driver or not....
I have been running CM9 or AOKP since I got my phone and no issues at all...No radio issues No GPS issue No hot reboot issues... so far nada... Give them all a try thats my opinion
As said earlier, CM9 and AOKP are both great. My only issue with them is that they don't have wifi calling so be wary of that if you need that feature.
Just update to the latest cm9 nightly at get.cm for the Hercules. If you are already on cm9 then make a back up and then wipe system, cache, and dalvik. Then flash cm9 and gapps.

Love the latest by Darkside. Its not pure stock but the latest is speedy, GREAT battery, and solid enough to be my DD ROM ..
Stats in sig. Good luck!
CM9 has come a LONG way these past months and virtually every bug you posted has been fixed. CM9 RC2 has been running beautifully for me for nearly a week and a half now. I recently took the plunge with TDJ's latest Venom kernel and it's been running even smoother. AOSP ROMs may have been buggy in the past but now there really isn't any reason to go back to TW. Unless of course you need wifi calling... but our devs are currently working on that and there are alternatives that allow you to call from wifi (Talkatone, Vonage, GrooveIP). So really, in my opinion, there really is no reason to go back to carrier bloat.
You could always use odin to flash a stock ICS, then root and remove bloat. You'd have a completely stock ICS running stable. As long as you're rooted, you can always flash modifications down the road. If you want a little extra performance but want to still maintain stock as much as possible, you can just flash a modified kernel on top.
So my upgrade is coming up on November 1st, and I will be looking into getting a new phone in the near future, and I am finally done waiting for this ICS update that isn't coming from HTC. I was wondering if there are any fully functioning roms for the Incredible 2, or if anyone can tell me the one that is closest to fully working. Of course looking for something ICS or above and appreciate any suggestions on where I should begin...

I have not tried Psycho's CM9 Global yet, but I hear it is pretty much fully functional except for the FFC is upside down or something...I have tried their CM10 Global and it is a smooth running rom, just a couple of little bugs they are working out. Mimicry CM9 based rom is almost fully functional...only thing not working that I know for sure is the FFC. Those are the only roms I have tried recently. I have also read that the Viper Sense rom is pretty good too, but it is Sense 4. I prefer the Paranoid Android, but there are some camera issues with it and a couple of other small bugs that don't affect me that much so I never notice them. Other than that I am out of suggestions, I have not tried UKB, MIUI, or any of the other roms that I hear are great roms.

I started with aeroevan's CM9 ROM and it was terribly slow and pretty buggy. I had to reboot it at least once a day. I'm now running Psycho's CM10 Global and it's actually been really great, aside from the nonfunctional FFC, graphic tearing with Chrome, and unstable Bluetooth. Also, the CM10 Global ROM has an issue where after locking the phone it will take 1-2 seconds before allowing you to unlock again.

IC Tazz has been flawless for me. I tried CM9 and CM10 for a few weeks, they work pretty good but are not 100%.
I'm using the new viper Rom. In the past I've always preferred sense tho. Viper is nice. But I prefer my own non sense widgets. So my phone basically looks the same as it did when running cm10. So I'm not sure what the point of staying on viper. Must say battery life is impressive, especially for a sense Rom. Battery life was one reason why I hated sense. But then my phone doesn't really look like sense anyways since I'm using all the same widgets as I did w aosp. *confused*

Haha, I can understand that. I've only been around this one for the past few months. Seriously, thanks for the reminder. I won't forget next time haha
for an ics rom, i gotta say viper sense is the most bug-free. both the ffc camera and rear cameras work fine, and you can shoot fine in 720p HD recording, a problem with many other roms.
this was one of the main problems i had with most CM's and aosp roms was that the stock camera sucked. it didnt even compare to the sense camera and pictures looked they were taken with a basic phone. the viper sense camera was great, maybe even better than stock.
as for bugs, i think the only thing was that taking a picture while recording didnt work, i dont think its supposed to though cuz the inc2 isnt designed for it? also for some reason after a reboot it changed from cdma to gsm, and i think the only way to change that it running the aroma installer again.
I'm no expert or developer but there is quite a few Roms that I have found a pretty stable that could be used as a daily driver with no problem. If you're not rooted I recommend trying it and giving some Roms a test run and seeing what you like before ditching your inc2 its a whole new experience.

Fully functional eh? Both dkstunna and Aerovans cm9 & 10 both run nicely. Just have to make some changes depending on your carrier but youll find the solutions by reading the threads. But don't forget most roms are like that woman in the red light district. She's pretty and fun and can do a lot but there is also something under that skirt that is fully functional.

It's been a pretty solid experience for a few months now.
Condemned Sense's Stock Build Odexed.
Depends on your definition of "fully-functional." For me that means everything that the stock ROM has including FFC, rotating softkeys, 720P camcorder, wifi-tethering, etc. Most of the ROMS listed (excluding stock ROMS) so far have issues with at least one of these things. I don't consider a mentality of "living with minor bugs" consistent with "fully-functional."
Personally my list would include:
- any of the the "standard" Sense 2.1 Gingerbread ROMs like GingerSense, SkyRaider Zeus, etc. (they all use the official 2.65 kernel specifically built for GB)
- Arctic Ascension 2.02 (aka IC Tazz 3.6) - Sense 3.6 using the leaked Chinese v3.x OTA kernel - everything including the stuff I mentioned works on it. It even includes features not even the stock ROM has such as automatic 3G switching when sending and receiving MMS messages.
Try CM 7.2, it was the first rom i flashed. the battery life is extraordinary and it runs fast like hell! only problem is its a bit old fashioned.
I'm currently running ViperSense 1.1, but its just slightly slow because its using a stock kernel
Thanks everyone for taking the time to give me this information. I have been busy but plan to look into these very soon! Much appreciation!

What defines video? I mean you can see what does and what doesn't work easily in the CM10 thread. It also doesn't take long to make a nandroid and test JB out. There's also other threads about it's performance and if it's the best, etc. CM10 is worth it to me and quite a few others.
TLDR: Flash it and see for yourself.
I've read so much information it just gets confusing. Sometimes it seems when I try to improve on something I wind up messing up my phone. Yeah i could record video in mov. format format but it's a hassle. Which version of cm10 are u running? I read that on some roms have a problem reading SD card.

Honestly, just flash it and try it. If it doesn't work for you, you now know. The SD card problems were never in CM, but in Rom Manager, which has been fixed and isn't even included anymore in CM.

I agree just try it. For me there was no comparison between the performance of CM9 and CM10. CM10 was much better.
CM 10 seems better for me. Even when some of the function like video camera not works so well but still i prefer CM 10. And you better try yourself. since nandroid backup and TB was invented i never afraid for switching and testing roms

I'm running CM9 with no real problems. Is it worth switching to CM10 and Jelly Bean? Is there more problems with JB than ICS for the dinc and dose the video work on JB? I know it is more demanding on the cpu but is the preformance worse than ICS?

I was using CM9 for a while and decided to try out CM10(pons) last week and will stick with it going forward. Video recording isn't a big deal to me and YouTube does flicker a little but it's not that bad. Other than that it seems as responsive as, or more than, CM9(invisiblek) for how I use my phone.
Which CM9 build are you on?

Which CM9 are you using? (Since it was never officially released, and there are a few different dev builds out there from those as who were so kind to pick up the project and run with it, Which one have you (or anyone here) found has work the best?) (And, as always, a link plz)
I have to agree with just giving cm10 a try. Pons' builds are excellent. Google Now is also cool. Download goomanager and use twrp for the best experience.

Make a nandroid and try it. Its really, really good. I have had almost no problems, it is super fast, and everything seems to work(except video recording). It also supports OTA updates which is cool but you will need TWRP recovery.
I just moved to cm10 yesterday and so far I really like it. I say give it a shot and see what you think.
I say go for it! I first went with the AOSP RC3, but it was very very laggy. I switched to Pon's CM10, and it is absolutely amazing. It is as smooth and fast as my HTC Evo 3D which has a dual-core processor and more than double the RAM!
I highly, highly recommend CM10!
I was very impressed when I switched to the CM10 builds from CM9, CM10 is much smoother in my opinion.
Yes! So worth it tinys cm10 is super stable and smooth

My wife's Inc has been running great on Tiny's CM10's as well. Fast, stable, and she hasn't had problems in daily use.

Give it a shot!
I have been running pons' cm10 builds for a few months and would definitely recommend giving them a shot! (tiny is building based on pons' work at the moment, since pons' computer died) The thread is very active and informative, you should give it a read.
