Same thing happens on me with cm7 latest nightly, wont connect to internet even the data was there, at sense rom, it runs well.
Any fix? Cause i love cm7 simplicity and smoothness, dont wanna flash another because of this. And i have promotion bonus from my carrier which gives 4Gb data this month

I recently rooted my first android phone with CM7. I'm extremely pleased with the result, but didn't realise that I'd lose the ability to reverse tether the phone over USB, because I'd no longer be using HTC sense.
I really don't want to go back to the stock rom just for reverse tethering, however the only way I could get internet at work was using the HTC sense 'internet passthrough' option on the phone, along with the sense software for windows.
Is there any way to reverse tether my android phone over USB (not wifi) while running Cyanogenmod 7? I'd like to avoid using my data plan when I can.
I as well have the same data cap issue with my carrier and would like to minimize my data usage. I'd prefer to have the reverse USB tethering option since open WIFI networks can leave your data exposed. I particularly don't care for HTC sense and can't seem to depart from my rooted cyanogenmod 7 ROM at this time.
Tethering not working anymore due to Sense not there
Hi all
Has anyone solved this?
I have the same problem.
I have just flashed the CM7.2 !
Thanks
I've installed CM7 RC1 on my Defy. Everything seems to be working OK. It used to have an app called "3G Hotspot" for wifi tethering, but that's no longer presence. Looking at the CM wiki, it says to go to Wireless * network settings » Tethering & portable hotspot, but what I see on my device is Wireless & Networks >> Tethering >> USB Tethering. There does not seem to be any option for wireless tethering. Googling lead me to an app in the market called 'Wireless Tether for Root Users', is that the right way to go? I thought it was supposed to be built-in to CM7.
The app you mentioned works best with cm7

+1 for the Wireless Tether app.
Thanks, I installed the app and it works well. Except it does not have WPA2, but no biggie.
Any ideas why the CM7 built-in support doesn't show up on the Defy?
I have no copy of the old 3G Hotspot. Anyway to get it?
3G Hotspot would be not installed.
I have old 3G Hotsop backup one. but I can not install it. Maybe It works only under Froyo.

How did you back it up and restore? Did you use Titanium Backup or just copy the Mynet.apk? I would like to give it a try too. Thanks.
tethering on x10 mini
hello there,
I got the same problem. I installed CyanogenMod7 on my SE X10 mini and tried to get tethering work. I don´t have the option of wireless tetering too, only USB ethering.
Wireless Tethering for roo Users does not work, too. Something about the Kernel, so this wonderful app won´t work.
Samsung Galaxy S with stock rom an tethering opion already worked to tether 3G to my Asus Transformer. I am jealous and want my X10 mini to do so, too.
Can anyone help me please? I tried several different apps, none worked
Got the same problem
Got the same problem on MIUI.
The 3G hotspot app (Mynet.apk system app) seems does notr work under MIUI, and I thing the same on CM7.
I've deodex Mynet.apk and installed in system/app but nothing.
The WI-FI tether for root users works, but just in ad-hoc mode. No way to use it in infreastucture mode. The strange is that the same app in Eclair and Froyo works in infreastucture mode.
I hope we will have a good infreastucture mode wi-fi tether for 2.3, CM7 and MIUI ...
If so let us know!!!
See you.
Hi,
I'm an Android user for more than a year now and ever since I have the Galaxy Nexus the tethering is been giving me headaches. it seems to connect to my laptop but after a while it just stops to work. I can't browse any site or download anything from my laptop but this does seem to work on the Nexus.
I've resetted the phone to factory settings but this didn't solve it. I've also noticed that disconnecting and reconnecting to the wifi tethering helps even though I do have connectivity problems sometimes.
is anyone else experiencing the same issue?
I'm on the UK 3 network and the Nexus is not rooted and the unbranded version.
before the galaxy nexus I was using the HTC Desire (rooted etc) but never had the same weird disconnecting issue..
I have not tried it yet

Yes, having the same issues here as we speak. All the issues and fixes above I am experiencing. I'm from Australia on the Optus network.
I put my sim into a Huawei E585 and had no issue whatsoever, so seems to definitely be a phone issue....hopefully a software issue which will be fixed soon as I its extremely annoying as you know!
I'm awaiting the 4.0.2 or 4.0.3 update now, this seems to solve several issues and they also mentioned tethering in it. let's just wait it out now
I haven't received any update on the Galaxy Nexus yet, still running 4.0.1, can anyone please verify if they are having issues running ICS 4.0.2 or newer on their handsets while tethering?
I wonder if the networks have found a way to remotely block tethering access? I say this because I have an HTC Desire on Orange which will no longer load anything when using Wi-Fi tethering.
My Galaxy Nexus is fine though. I'm on the One Plan with Three which includes unlimited data and tethering (says so in the small print of the contract). I'd say contact Three if you're on the one plan and ask for their help.

Guess you didn't really properly read all messages,
I don't have any probs if I tether from my desire, I have an All you can eat data on Three,
the thing is it just stops working and I cannot ping my Nexus from my computer. according to the change log for the nexus they did say to fix some wifi issues etc with updates..
So which version are you running???
I am running 4.0.2, Samsung galaxy nexus, and tehering is not working. Anyone have a solution to this problem?
Temporary solution: (Click thanks! )
Google knows about the ICS tethering problem and this is their temporary solution.

You must "allow" you computer after you've connected to the hotspot. See this thread for more.
I am experience the same issue on my Galaxy Nexus, it's currently running 4.0.2 and Baseband I9250UGLA4.
my solution to the issue at the moment it's using USB tethering.
I suggest PdaNet, you can find it at Google Play and it's free =)
i am not using the stock wifi tethering feature on ICS instead i'm using FoxFi and at times the timeout issue will show up but if i restart the hotpot a few times, it seems to be working fine again...
i'm not sure if i am any good help to anyone but that's my experience...
FWIW, I have not had any issue with this. I tried tethering for the first time the other day with my Wi-Fi-only tablet for an hour and it Just Worked.
My wife's just got a tablet so wants to get it connected via her Wildfire.
We tried turning it on last night but it's not working properly - the hotspot functionality itself seems be enabled properly, but in Wireless and Networks, the text under the 'Mobile network' option keeps cycling between 'Connected' and 'Use phone for data connection...'.
The text 'Wi-Fi hotspot active' keeps appearing and disappearing from the notification area.
We appear to be able to successfully connect the tablet via wifi to the Wildfire but there's no internet access.
The handset is completely stock and unbranded (Froyo, build 2.22.405.1). Internet access in general is fine and my wife's data plan specifically allows tethering (GiffGaff UK, using a Gigabag).
Has anyone else encountered this issue and found a way around this? Am willing to start rooting and flashing other ROMs if it will solve the problem.
for tethering try the Barnacle wifi tethter app from market - works for me
I'll give that a try when I get home and report back here.
Have you ever tried it using the in-built functionality and either found it to work or not? Considering I've not had problems with my own handsets (previously a Desire, now a Sensation) it seems odd that I can't get it to work on my wife's Wildfire.
I used the built in one on stock rom with no problems at all on 2 wildfires, I used to use all mine then leech from the girlfriends. Could it be a problem with her apn setting? Maybe call customer service and check its set correctly for tethering.
Personally I'd tell her its broke though and flash it like I did the girlfriends purely because I'm a flashaholic!!

Just in case anyone was wondering (or for the benefit of future searchers)... I finally got the Hotspot working after I installed a custom ROM (DK Custom Froyo v4.7 - I didn't want anything too different to Stock).
Custom kernels etc. didn't work (in fact, the one I tried destabilised the handset), neither did other options such as Barnacle on the stock ROM.
Thanks everyone for trying.
i currently run cm 10.2 / on 4.3.1. for my tmobile t989.
my question is. why when i run the stock wifi hotspot app will it allow my wii to connect and use my phones data to run netflix. hulu. etc. insted of mobile hotspot minutes like my desktop does. this is not bad for me. its actually close to what i am trying to accomplish by installing roms to begin with. why will my computer take my data from the free 2.5 gb mobile hotspot minutes. but my wii uses my phone data? keeping in mind i pay for unlimited data. so im not concerned with my phones data being used. is it possible to get free tethering on tmobile? i have heard of barrnicle and foxfi. they havent worked though. also curious if its possoble to make my mhl cable work with this cm version. it worked before. ic you can help. i would really appretiate it. im really curious if anyone has got around tmobiles hotspot bs.
