I know people have been pretty unhappy with the service but HTCsense.com has worked fine for me since I booted up my phone back in October 2010.
I've been swapping between Sense and CM7 but always find myself ending up with the latter as it's just so much easier to use (currently on Nightly #32).
I think I know the answer to this but is there a way of linking up HTCsense.com within CM7 either by taking an APK out of the Sense system files or is it too deeply encoded within Sense for it to be extracted?
I've found all the other services (Lookout, WaveSecure, etc) to be fine on the first glimpse but there's always hidden charges or features that need money to be unlocked whereas HTCsense.com is a free service.
My main reasons for wanting HTCsense.com is the phone finder, the ability to make the phone ring (I know I can just call it) but also to remote wipe it.
Like I say I think the answer is no but thought it was worth checking.
I don't know about getting HTCsense.com tracking to work on CM, but you could try this app Prey Phone Tracker. I'm currently using it and it's great.
I'd love to have the HTC Hub working with CM7, just because all my messages & contacts are backed up in the HTC hub :-(
-----------------------------
I've been trying prey and I can see the benefits but it still doesn't have that great dashboard that htcsense.com has. Also being able to see and send texts from the same service is great.

My two pennies worth but Seek Droid (http://www.seekdroid.com) is very good: it's quicker (ie, more or less instant) at locking or wiping a phone - when testing with HTC's version, I'd send the request and nothing would happen for (sometimes) hours :S
It doesn't backup SMS for you or show you your phone book: however, since your phonebook is synced with Google, you can see the contacts via http://mail.google.com in any case. It does allow you to locate, lock, wipe or ring your phone remotely which is all you really need from remote software like this...

thanks, but i have flashed the cm7, after that my nandroid backups didn't work and all my contacts & messages are just saved on htcsense.com
i just need to find a way to get them on my phone once...
...
I think the ultimate goal here is to use CM7 but attain that singular piece of Sense code that syncs with htcsense.com and merge that with CM.
It would be great to setup CM7, go into accounts and settings and see the option for HTC within the usual crowd.
I get that there's alternatives such as Prey and backup software such as MyBackUp Pro, which do a great job, and you can also use a stock ROM with the Sense interface swapped out but oh to have those 3 letters appear within CM accounts would be fantastic.

Hi,
I know there is somewhere around here the update of the new market.
However I have not installed it or anything and now my Desire Z has it, which makes me wonder if anyone having a Desire Z has also got it?
Because I also have a Desire and Wildfire but neither of them has got the update.
Thanks
*****EDIT ****** My wildfire and my Desire Z have got it, maybe I havent got it on the Desire since I am on a custom ROM.
Anyhow thanks
Google did say they would be rolling it out over the next few weeks. I haven't got it yet either.
But there's an .apk you can install if you want, over on the Apps forum.
I got it last night. It updated silently, without any notification, which i don't realy like...
New Market app looking good, just needs to get used to it. I don't mind for sharing an .APK if you want.

Market has always updated silently, it updates far more often than you know about, but most of the time it will just be bug fixes and not actual change so you will never notice.
The same method they use to update the market is how they can also remove banned apps you have installed (if installed via the market)

After they've removed "Free Advanced Task Manager" from my phone i switched to CM ROM (without GApps) for ~2 months and just now starting to use all that Google spyware-kit again. That's the only thing i hate about Google. Automatic app updates via Market su**s too IMO. They keep getting updates even if i've un-ticked "Allow automatic updating" box.

i updated my market app manually, but it seems this one is eating battery, there is a running program called alarmService Process: com.android.vending and its running... i didnt have this with my older market... is there any way to get the old version back?
It updated overnight sometime between tuedsay and wednesday. I liked the old one better, this one tries too hard to look like the app store
Don't think mine has updated, looks very much the same as before to me.

You'll know when it gets updated. They've revamped the looks of the interface quite a bit.
http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Android-Market-Update-Android-1.6-Developers-android,news-9351.html
Last time I checked mine wasn't updated
I received the update, but not sure if I care for the new coverflow rip-off UI. Unnecessary eye candy. My battery life seems to be noticeably worse after the market update, anyone else seeing this?
My biggest question is does the new marketplace work properly with a non-gmail login for my Google account. I HATE gmail, and do NOT want a gmail address - yet Android Marketplace forced me to add one to my otherwise perfectly valid existing Google account.
Now the bloody gmail address has taken over (without asking me) my default Google and YouTube logins. Grrrr.....
And gmail, I have now found, has no technical support facility. At all. Period. Just a user forum, which seems pretty useless so far.
What a shambles of a way to operate a company that is providing the operating bedrock to phones selling for £500!

This is completely off topic. If you want to rant about Google, start a new thread.
Mine was just updated last night.
I noticed mine was updated about 6 hours ago. My G2 was at 9% battery life when I found out. I downloaded Tweetcaster (yeah, I took a dive and re-started my Twitter account), set up the widget and I still had 9% when I plugged it in, that was all of 10-15 minutes though so I can't comment on battery life.
I actually like the new market. So far, navigation is just as easy as it was before and looks much more refined and sleek than it did before. Personally (after consulting my iTouch's market with the new Android market), I saw a bigger resemblence to the iOS and Android markets BEFORE the update (back when both used block buttons). Since the update, there's a lot more curves and graphics in the Android Market than iOS (and I've looked at both...just now) and it just looks more appealing.
This is just IMO, but good job Google, I like it.
Went back to stock in hope of receiving market update. Nothing so far, am on the european desire z
I got the new Market this afternoon. Looks flashier but I find the carousel thing at the top of the screen doesn't work too well, and it's hard to flick it to the exact app that you want to look at without pressing on it. Maybe that's just me though ?

It does take a minute to load, wherein it's laggy, but after a minute or two the carousel works just fine for me (short swipes usually just move it one over).
im really sad.
i absolutely love this rom and appreciate you releasing such a high level, fully functional rom, virus.
i cant get the stock sense (3.0) email to stop force closing on beta1.3. it will open, but i cannot see any of my emails whatsoever. i HAVE seen them [once] while being on this rom however. I have also tried to just use the email widget to view emails. the emails will populate on the widget but when i choose a line item to open, it will force close before the email comes up.
i rely heavily on email and calendar functions since i work in a corporate job and cant go without these features even for a moment.
i didnt see that anyone else was having this issue. i had to purchase enhanced email from the market but it abandons the htc sense calendar feature totally. can someone send me a life boat? thanks everyone for helping people daily like myself because you genuinely care.
If there is no fix, can anyone recommend a ROM with everything tested and working until Virus can fix the issue? Is it just a ME problem?
i will have to flash over a new rom tonight unfortunately
does anyone have any recommendations? im not partial to a sense rom. need something full functional and battery life and fast performance is important to me. can anyone recommend one?

Cm7 /sbc kernel...... awesomesauce~
but ATM.... synergy 3.0
a couple of things
First off, this is posted in the wrong section. Being as though it's a question, it should be posted in Q&A.
Second, regarding your e-mail issue - I've been using V's Kingdom ROM since the beginning, and I have absolutely no problem with E-mail. I am also a corporate business user, and my E-mail, Calendar, etc functions work flawlessly. I can even print those items, using the "Print" menu function. Sounds like you got a bad download or flash, or didn't wipe thoroughly prior to flashing.

Best roms for EVO 4G are GingerAleV4 & MikG-v2.00, 100% functionals, I recommend you to try them.
Evening all.
I've been using LiquidSmooth V1.4, v3.08 Franco.Kernel-nightly-384gpu for months and have only praise for the developers. Amazing ROM, with fantastic functionality, speed and customization. Though I seem to have found a fault with apps that require push and notifications appearing in.the status bar. In that I don't get notifications.
I'll use IMDB and eBay as an example. For new titles or.reviews, or outbid notices and sale notifications. No pop ups appear with their respective sounds or icons. Is this a known error that's been fixed? As I've re-installed LiquidSmooth several times to no effect. But when using Android Revolution etc I have no issues?
I've also narrowed it down to most apps that push data onto the device. Only apps that seem to work are Gmail, Messenger and Facebook? And before you ask which I'm sure it will be. The necesary settings are on within the respective apps like eBay and IMDB!
If it's worth noting. I re-installed all my apps using Titanium Backup including data from previous roms where this function worked with no concern?
Thanks in advance!
well if you have no issues with other roms just change rom? and liquid smooth no longer belongs to the community as they charge money in order to be able to install the rom so... I don't think you will find further support here about that matter with that rom.. or you can go ask them in their forum/website about it...
cheers

Hey guys,
Ultra Noob here cutting my teeth in the forums. I'm trying to build the best phone I can since I will probably be using it.....foooooorrrrrrreeeeeevvvveeeerrrrr....... We switched to a new tmob plan that we dont get upgrades. Its way cheaper but...sad...
Anywho... I'm looking for way to really jazz this bad boy up. whats your guys favorite programs to maximize this thing and customize it as well?
I currently have it running the andromadus cm10 nightly from Flinny from here and I have downloader a few programs to unlock titanium pro, sms restore and back pro, Lucky patcher, use androzip, poweramp full, scoremobile...i dunno what else to put just looking to my more knowlageable counterparts.
Thanks!
I use LBE security, try to get an older version though. It allows you to configure security for all apps installed on your phone. You can block or allow certain permissions. Like for example, Tweetcaster & Soundhound frequently request your location, you can disable that, or not allow a certain app to read your call logs, or get your IMEI number, or contacts. Been using it for a while, I like the control it gives me.
I also recommend ROOT Toolbox Pro, it has a plethora of functions and extras for root users

Lbe security is awesome but I am a belt and suspenders kinda guy so I use droidwall as well just to be sure.

I'm making the switch to the GS3 from several years of iPhones. Its been a while since ive had an android phone and it looks like a lot has changed. I had a few questions I was hoping the brilliant minds at xda would be able to help me out with. After being on the iPhone for a while theres a few features I have become attached to that I cant seem to figure out on the GS3.
Firstly I have gotten attached to the security features on the iphone. Setting a pin code but having a proper delay on its activation. So if pick up the phone and use it gain within 5 minutes the lockscreen still works but it doesn't prompt for the passcode. however, after that 5 minutes it will start prompting for it again. Maybe its just me but I have not found an effective way to get this working on the GS3. I have tried the delay settings but not matter what is set it seems as if the power button makes it prompt for the code again. Does anyone have a good solution to this? another small thing that annoys me about the pin unlock is having to hit the ok key after entering the pin.
Secondly I have become accustomed to the email client on the iPhone. While I do like the priority inbox and other features that the gmail app has on android I really miss the unified inbox. I have about 6 email accounts that I keep synced with my phone. Some gmail and some not. Can anyone recommend a really good email client that has unified inbox. of if there is any way to achieve this using the gmail app. I would prefer to use the gmail app because some of those gmail accounts sync with other parts of the phone such as contacts and calendars it seems kind of unnecessary to have accounts set up in settings to sync everything else and a separate app to just sync all of my same accounts for email.
Thanks for anyone who responds. I am also open to any custom rom options that people have to suggest that will help me solve my problems. I have been playing around with CM10 and I like it but theres still a few kinks to work out. I hope I am posting this in the right area.

First, welcome to android For the lockscreen thing, you have it set up to delay the lock screen 5 minutes after the screen times it, go under your lock screen settings and make sure that where it says "lock instantly with power key" is unchecked. For the email client, I haven't used them as I have made the switch over to having all of my emails as gmail. Have you tried the one pre loaded with the phone? If not then I'm sure a simple search on the market will provide what you need. Just keep in mind that the best part of android is the customizability and the freedom to change everything if you are willing to put in the time!

In regards to an email client, try checking out K9 Mail in the Play Store. I believe a unified inbox is one of its features.

Thanks for the reply. Happy to be owning an S3 now. That seems to solve my problem with the lockscreen. Thanks for the tip. I don't know how i messed that. lol As for the email most of my accounts are gmail, but 2 are not. The issue is just switching between 5 different inboxes every time i want to check my mail. I hope google adds unified inbox to gmail soon.
Does anyone recommend any good roms to try out? I would like to run something based on JB, but it still needs to be reliable for the most part it is a daily driver. I would like to add google wallet and check out google now. I do like a few of the features of the stock rom and am curious if anyone is just running a debloated stock rom and installing wallet and google now on that inorder to keep sbeam and a few other features that samsung baked in. If so hows the performance on that?
Welcome to Android, fellow previous iPhone user!
For the multiple emails: if you want to use the gmail client, you just need to add those other accounts to your Gmail. I used to do this with my school's Exchange email and my Gmail.
Basically, Gmail can attach POP3 and I think IMAP, too, accounts. This way you can send and receive from those accounts. It might be called forwarding. Look out up in the gmail settings.
But, if you don't care for archive or priority inbox (gmail specific features), then the default email client can combine inboxes (mine says combined inbox even though I only have one account)...
If you're looking for a stable JB ROM, check out Task650 and Ktoonsez AOKP 4.1.2 or CM10.

I just put CM10 on my phone and I was going to spend a few days playing with that, but whats the word on any samsung features being ported to that? I know there arent many that are any good, but I do like sbeam's ability to send larger files (which i think is just wifi direct, correct me if im wrong), gimicky things like the swipe to screenshot, the calendar widget, that picture in picture feature(which i probably will only use twice), and some of those motion options.
You should try and read up over in the development sections. Those gimmicky features built into the S3 stock are from Samsung TouchWiz. CM10 is based on AOSP which is entirely different. So those Samsung features aren't going to be available on CM10, period.
I believe if you spend some time with the new ROM, you'll find yourself without a need for those TouchWiz gimmicks.

Ok I'll definitely spend some time with CM10 and see how I like it. I read this morning that Stable releases have started showing up for CM10 for some devices. So hopefully it will be a good daily driver.
Thanks to everyone who responded and gave me suggestions.
Great questions.. I also switched from iPhone after owning every version up to the 4S... I miss it less and less every day. I currently use cm10 nightly build ROM and update every couple nightlies I also use apex launcher because I like the notifications on the icons and ability to rename icons and change their pic.
I missed the simplicity of ios when I got my gs3 2 months ago but after getting familiar and finding solutions for my individual needs I don't miss ios anymore.
I do find being left handed the gs3 too be a little too wide of a form factor and I accidentally hit the volume rocker often. I have contemplated getting a thinner android device but will hate it prob after being use to the screen size... I have been changing things daily and spending a lot of time trying things.. I enjoy it. Feel free to inbox me if you need insight. I use my gs3 for small business and personal needs.. lots of YouTube. Texting...Facebook.. and my scheduling invoicing company has a mobile cloud site I use daily to run business.

dont really miss it all that much since the benefits of swapping out the battery, roms, etc outweigh the simplicity of the iphone
it would be nice if theres a way to scroll to the top of a website like IOS did for many of its apps

I am so far enjoying the CM10 Release although honestly I miss a couple features in the touchwiz rom. I'm kind of torn. I definitely want to try out the JB OTA update and see if its enough for me to settle. The features I'm torn over are:
CM10 Pros:
Always up to date regardless of carrier holdups(bugs are fixed quickly)
a lot of additional options that allow me to fine tune the experience far beyond what is allowed in touchwiz
overall the phone is MUCH smoother without occastional hangups and whatnot(but im not sure how much of that is just the improvements of JB)
Google Now
improved notifications
pure google experience without all the touchwiz stuff slowing things down
love the sms app vs the samsung app(much cleaner and faster in my opinion and I don't like the market alternatives for sms they feel just as slow and cumbersome to me. The only one that comes close to being acceptable is gosms)
the sms popup is really nice even though it doesn't always work perfect
prefer the lockscreen style to that of the ripple effect on touchwiz
Touchwiz Pros:
Sbeam(only because my brother and a few close friends all picked up an S3 and I have been using this feature a lot with them)
Samsung Calendar widget(for some reason really like this specific widget)
I like the camera interface a little better in the touchwiz
The best shot feature in the camera is nice
strangely enough I have come to like the voice control with the alarm clock and phone calls
Smart Alert is nice but ive noticed its randomly going off while im in a phone call which is kind of annoying
I enjoy using the swipe to screenshot
I like the notification icons that are on the lockscreen for quick access to missed notifications
May just be a bug but I don't seem to get LTE service properly on the CM10 rom
Again I'm torn between the two but I've realized the only things that I'm clinging to in touchwiz are pretty much small interface things or gimmicky features that could possibly be solved with other apps from the market. I would like to try the JB touchwiz rom when it releases and see if it is enough to appease me but I don't want to give up my root and risk not getting that back if I don't like it and want back to CM10. What do you guys think?
