[Q] Has your market been updated? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I know there is somewhere around here the update of the new market.
However I have not installed it or anything and now my Desire Z has it, which makes me wonder if anyone having a Desire Z has also got it?
Because I also have a Desire and Wildfire but neither of them has got the update.
Thanks
*****EDIT ****** My wildfire and my Desire Z have got it, maybe I havent got it on the Desire since I am on a custom ROM.
Anyhow thanks

Google did say they would be rolling it out over the next few weeks. I haven't got it yet either.
But there's an .apk you can install if you want, over on the Apps forum.

I got it last night. It updated silently, without any notification, which i don't realy like...
New Market app looking good, just needs to get used to it. I don't mind for sharing an .APK if you want.

Market has always updated silently, it updates far more often than you know about, but most of the time it will just be bug fixes and not actual change so you will never notice.
The same method they use to update the market is how they can also remove banned apps you have installed (if installed via the market)

After they've removed "Free Advanced Task Manager" from my phone i switched to CM ROM (without GApps) for ~2 months and just now starting to use all that Google spyware-kit again. That's the only thing i hate about Google. Automatic app updates via Market su**s too IMO. They keep getting updates even if i've un-ticked "Allow automatic updating" box.

Thanks I have got it also, highly appreciate it anyhow

i updated my market app manually, but it seems this one is eating battery, there is a running program called alarmService Process: com.android.vending and its running... i didnt have this with my older market... is there any way to get the old version back?

It updated overnight sometime between tuedsay and wednesday. I liked the old one better, this one tries too hard to look like the app store

Don't think mine has updated, looks very much the same as before to me.

You'll know when it gets updated. They've revamped the looks of the interface quite a bit.
http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Android-Market-Update-Android-1.6-Developers-android,news-9351.html

Last time I checked mine wasn't updated

I received the update, but not sure if I care for the new coverflow rip-off UI. Unnecessary eye candy. My battery life seems to be noticeably worse after the market update, anyone else seeing this?

My biggest question is does the new marketplace work properly with a non-gmail login for my Google account. I HATE gmail, and do NOT want a gmail address - yet Android Marketplace forced me to add one to my otherwise perfectly valid existing Google account.
Now the bloody gmail address has taken over (without asking me) my default Google and YouTube logins. Grrrr.....
And gmail, I have now found, has no technical support facility. At all. Period. Just a user forum, which seems pretty useless so far.
What a shambles of a way to operate a company that is providing the operating bedrock to phones selling for £500!

This is completely off topic. If you want to rant about Google, start a new thread.

Mine was just updated last night.

I noticed mine was updated about 6 hours ago. My G2 was at 9% battery life when I found out. I downloaded Tweetcaster (yeah, I took a dive and re-started my Twitter account), set up the widget and I still had 9% when I plugged it in, that was all of 10-15 minutes though so I can't comment on battery life.
I actually like the new market. So far, navigation is just as easy as it was before and looks much more refined and sleek than it did before. Personally (after consulting my iTouch's market with the new Android market), I saw a bigger resemblence to the iOS and Android markets BEFORE the update (back when both used block buttons). Since the update, there's a lot more curves and graphics in the Android Market than iOS (and I've looked at both...just now) and it just looks more appealing.
This is just IMO, but good job Google, I like it.

Went back to stock in hope of receiving market update. Nothing so far, am on the european desire z

I got the new Market this afternoon. Looks flashier but I find the carousel thing at the top of the screen doesn't work too well, and it's hard to flick it to the exact app that you want to look at without pressing on it. Maybe that's just me though ?

It does take a minute to load, wherein it's laggy, but after a minute or two the carousel works just fine for me (short swipes usually just move it one over).

I want to root my slide, and flash cyanogen but before I do I would like to know what are some flaws in this rom one that I know its that the BT doesn't work, what are some other known major issues??
P.s: Does the Cyanogen rom still have the balck themed swype, or swype at all? Thank you for yalls time and answers.

Swype isn't free anymore. The black themed one was on stock. I've been theming the latest Swype but pushing it off until after my FE exam.
I haven't encountered any problems at all with this one.

I have googled "swype.sdk" enough times to tell you that there's no easy way to get it without getting a trial version that eventually expires. They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result, but I'm waiting for that glorious day when Swype releases an apk on the market for everyone.
As for the issues with CM 6.1, I've been running it for about a week. The only issue I've heard about is that some people experience lower than average call volume or lower than average volume on Skype.
The only issue I've had is the Market and set-up is a little buggy/laggy if you're on Wi-fi only (as in, no cell phone service). Otherwise, it seems to be a very solid and fast Rom, and I highly recommend it.

You might try swype.apk not sdk. I don't think swype has a software development kit (sdk) because it's an app not an os or operating platform. Just google swype.apk and you'll find it.
Just a bit of a warning - Do Not Post It On XDA. The reason it's not included in Cyanogenmod ROMs is the same reason you can't post the swype.apk on XDA.

Gah, I meant .apk. It was like 8 or 9am when I posted that and my brain doesn't work at that time in the morning. When the market was messing up on my wi-fi connection, I was getting apks online for stuff like Facebook and ChompSMS, so I should've known better than to put sdk.
I know you can't post it on any forums because it's a licensed product and posting links to it (or just posting it as an attachment) is considered piracy or something similar. That's probably why it's so hard to find a non-trial version. Most of the results you get from googling "swype.apk" are links to forums that used to have links to where you could download it, but the links have been removed on all of the forums (they should've just erased the threads so they'd stop showing up on Google altogether).
Personally, I'm just going to suck it up and get a trial. Better to have it for a month then not at all.

I tried, but it's not showing up that I've sent any message. You can e-mail it to me straight through the "email user" thing, I know mine is up to date with the e-mail I'm using.
As for if you're allowed to post what you posted, well I mean Swype only deals with OEMs and our phone came with it. So, in reality, you're only helping me re-install a program my phone originally came with and accidentally got "lost" somewhere ...it's totally justified.
Also, another issue I've found with CM's 6.1 is that for no reason at all my screen randomly dims. It happens maybe once or twice a day on average (some days it doesn't happen, sometimes it happens a few times). No biggie, settings>display>brightness clears that up no problem.

Yeah I have that issue too, usually when the screen is about to time out and go black. If I touch it, the screen doesn't get brighter. I just have the power widget set up so I just have to tap the brightness to do the same thing.

[Survey] Don't like MotoBlur.. add a post in here

hey guys.. i'd like to contact motorola and tell them ...
-> what a great phone they built (DEVY) but I also want to ask them
-> what they hell did they tried to do when building MotoBlur? and why they don't create anything more appropriate for such a great phone?
so it came into my mind.. just to get a number of people.. (just the number - no nick- no realnames) which agree to my opinion.. to tell them, that I'm not alone... :=)
a plan?
best regards,
-
I Like the idea behind motoblur, but i think it could have been implemented better. Also, i have a suspicion that Motoblur is the reason that we wont be getting android 2.2 unti Q2 next year, and thats a terrible thing :O. If they could speed up the android updates then i would love it :L
Well, after spending 3 years with iOS and 5+ months using SenseUI Motoblur came as a real shock. How a company can spend so little on software development/support in this day & age is beyond me?
It's like they got halfway through, realised it was rubbish/pointless and stopped. Mixing stock menus/calander app etc with the ropey launcher/lock screen/'my first widget' design is very confusing.
Still, at least the multi touch keyboard is good and errr.. DLNA and wifi hotspotting I guess.

I know what you mean lol. The thing with the wifi hotspot app though is that it makes you doubt if you can use it. I turned it on and it said to make sure my network allows it??? , This part of motoblur caused a bit of a panic haha. The swype keyboard is brilliant but it took me a while to understand how it works haha
Blur is generally crap especially the launcher, however some of the apps - the email app for instance for me is very good, its the best email app I've used.

but i have to confirm.. and also explain i also do like some apps the music app, the gallery, the keyboard (like sarge78 told us above) works perfectly -- the text when a new word is added to the user dictionary stays a little bit toooooooooo long , but typing is perfect...) so some applications are really great.
but the whole theme^^ really strange..
(i also like the general design, black and the red background when something is pressed.. but one thing the sms button on a contact, is big enough but I think it's optimized for chinese people, or at least the smallest fingers in the world out there )
Gosh, Captain America! Is this poll loaded or what!?
I feel divided for Blur.
The launcher is not bad, but there's better elsewhere... lot better.
I don't use all the social stuff (don't have facebook or twitter account, etc) so I can't really say if it's good or worst than a stock android.
But I like some apps loaded with Blur: DLNA, Voicecall, music player, etc
What I really dislike: all the blur services automaticly loaded even I don't want to use all this stuff...
I want the choice to load what I need

This! I like my new Defy. but I hate that i starts lots of stuff that I don't want/use. I don't care about the stuff that come preloaded but don't start because the phone got loads of space for my apps
I definitely have mixed feelings about Blur. Some of it I really love, but it bogs so much and in the end I would rather not have it if everything is going to run so slow and our updates are going to take so long. All in all the defy is a great device, but if Moto doesn't step it up this time with updates I am done after this.
Voted dislike. The very first app I downloaded was LauncherProPlus. Bye Bye blur!

Quoted for great justice.
I just don't use Blur, which would be fine and wouldn't bother me either way, if only it didn't insist on loading all it's processes anyway.
Uhh just checked the number of processes motobloat is running...
52!
My stock desire is running 28... No wonder it lags so badly at times.
+1 for installing a different launcher (LauncherPro for me, thanks!) as the first thing after getting the phone
Dear MotoBloat: Please go to hell.
If I ever meet the guy who approved Motoblur I'll tear out his kneecaps with a rusty... no wait... I'll force him to use a stock Motorola phone for 24 hours! MUAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Have you tried adding your email(s) to Gmail? I have done that for all my other email address', and it works great. I only have to check one inbox to get all my emails from four different screen names. I use @Gmail, @AOL, @Hotmail, and @MSN.com. If you have to reply, or forward from one of your other address's you can choose to send from Gmail, or the one that it was sent to. You can also tag them, so you know what email is what in your inbox. Very handy.

To be fair, I'd say Swiping through screens has been there in Android for long, can't recall when exactly, but I think YouTube app was one of the first, the tiles do give out a hint of WP7, but again, I find the styling bit more close to Web version of the Market.
As for slow refresh, yes I do notice that too !! I'm sure will be fixed in future updates
the tiles on the front screen was the wp7 thing.
swiping left and right - didnt even cross my mind

Yep looks really nice but with all this graphics downloaded each time, it really need a better handling of cashed images/icons. It's horribly slow until I allow it to load fully, and by then im about to throw the device out the window.

Yeah, google should also put an option to disable the preview page, the one with bigger images, for each category..It works good on wi-fi, but can't work on low 3g or edge..After 10 minutes i browsing the market, it downloaded about 16 MB of data..too much
Really want to install this but the amount of data it consumes seems kinda crazy.
I've been using the new Android Market for about a day now and I'm really enjoying it.The new layout is nice and gives the market a more premium feel. Some new great high quality apps would make it almost perfect.

New market vs Old market

So guys ... what do you think .... which is the best......
Old market is faster and not as crowded.
I reckon the new market will eventually come into its own for the newer generation of smart phones.
eventually................
Before, I could look at my applications/updates in one click from main interface. Now I need 2 screen taps: menus -- > My Applications
Also, from time to time, it reverts to another secondary account: even more taps as I need to change account
It s**ks really, I hate the new market
I think the new market really sucks.......so complicated.......so slow........so grey........
mmmmmmm........i don like it.........
today i encounterd a problem which is common with sgs and new market, that u cant download files over 30mb. that made me revert to old market and now everything works flawless. hate new market
I believe that most of the people hate the new market......
I agree with that. Although it's much better on more powerful phones (sgs2, touchpad) in my experience.
I also have that freaking annoying bug where it swaps to your other google account
New market is crap. Use it to download " OldMarket".
Older version. Loads a lot faster, and not as cluttered IMO...

Ha Ha. I agree completely
Old market was way better.
Not a fan of those windows phone tiles alike. They never offer anything usefull anyway. Also find it much harder to actually find stuff if i'm going through categories (as opposed to using search directly).
Performance wise, ever since i installed cyanogen 7.1 stable(on a SGS), this improved to nearly lag-free (not including the time it takes to download images). Not sure if it's just cyanogen that's faster or if this is a modified market version, or something else. Used to be really terrible with other roms though.
Simplicity to use still speaks louder and is more than enough to make me want to go back to the "OldMarket".
I've tried both, and I definitely prefer the Old market.
The old market loads a lot quicker, and I've noticed that the new market sometimes hangs when trying to install apps via the phone.
Usually I do the same thing that mickeko does, I'll browse the Market on PC then download the apps to my phone via the PC. Still, its nice to have the best version of the market running on your phone (in my case 2.3.6).
tried both.....the old one is working and the new one is eye candy but extremely slooooooooooooooow

HTC Really Screwed Up Multitasking on the One X!

I posted this on the AT&T One X forums but it's relevant here...
What in the world did HTC do to Android ICS mulitasking!? Apps seem to be completely removed from cache every single time they're closed for ~30 seconds. They also no longer re-open in the same state that you left them! If I leave the browser, it needs to reload the web page. If I leave a game, I need to start from the beginning. If I pause and exit Slacker radio for a minute, the app closes and I can't even resume my music with the headphones button! I need to re-open the app and start playing all over again.
With my old Galaxy Nexus I never had ANY of these issues and multitasking was clearly the best of any smartphone on the market. HTC has completely crippled this device and it's becoming more and more frustrating (push email notifications & sms notifications are a whole other mess). It seems HTC has created Sense to focus more on preserving battery than focusing on creating a good user experience. The first few days with the phone were great but as more and more of these "instances" pop up, this phone is beginning to seem less and less powerful and intuitive.
Maybe you have "Don't keep Activities" ticked in the Developer options?
No problem here, I can switch back to tasks at the point I left them. HOWEVER, I do tend to close apps from Recent Apps when I close them and I did the same on my old Galaxy Nexus as I don't like to have apps open if I'm not using them...obviously if you clear apps from the Task Manager then yes they'll open from scratch

Just checked and it's not ticked.
Sadly I have the same thing 3 pages opened... going to gmail checking mail and opening one already clears the cache and when I go back to the browser it has to reload the pages!!! Very annoying. My old HD2 was a lot better with this and I think Sense is the blame!! Its eating up to much RAM

Well, it seems that YOU "Really Screwed Up Multitasking on the One X". We're happy campers with great multitasking, remade by HTC. Incidentally, we actually get multitasking instead of Google's app switcher!
So, please, enough with the unceasing drama of HTC ruined my life.
yeah i get this - it's like it saves a screenshot of the last page the app was on, and then goes onto reloading it all. its almost like an ios multitasking and i don't like.
I tried running Rhapsody and CoPilot at the same time. CoPilot's pretty memory intensive. They both stayed active and I could toggle between them without either one restarting. Going to the home page caused Rhapsody to lose focus. I opened the browser and started Rhapsody again while CoPilot was still running. Toggling between the three they all stayed open. When I went to the home page the browser lost focus. Could be a bug, could be memory management.
I have no issues with it. Works well for me, I also don't like apps running too long in the background. If I am working on stuff it allows me to switch back and fourth with ease.

Well, it seems that YOU "Really Screwed Up Multitasking on the One X". We're happy campers with great multitasking, remade by HTC. Incidentally, we actually get multitasking instead of Google's app switcher!
So, please, enough with the unceasing drama of HTC ruined my life.

Nope seems like most other users on the AT&T forum have the exact same issue (there's a video there that shows it) and some others here have said the same. It's nothing I did to the device, it's something built into Sense 4.0.
The link below is a post on the AT&T forum that contains two videos that portray the problem. My issue isn't as bad as what is shown being that I need to leave an app for around 30 seconds. The issue shown seems to happen almost instantly.

The international version's been out for a month and this is the first time this has come up. So either it's not a big deal to people or they didn't even notice. I didn't until I read your post. Where would you like this to go?

Already submitted.
I've got the same problem and the developer option is unticked. It is a pain but it doesn't bother me too much though tbh.

If you don't have anything useful to post, why post at all. You just sound like a butthurt fanyboy because someones posted criticism about a genuine problem they're having. Just because you're a "Happy camper" doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist.
This issue is pretty bad. Should be fixed. Ill contact htc again
actually i havent noticed it until this thread, well maybe noticed it but never paid any attention to that. now it starts buggin me.
I don't know if this will help but there was a thread a little while ago that said to tick the "don't keep activities" tick box in developer options and then use the phone like that for a minute.
Then untick the "don't keep activities" tick box and it should work.
I can't remember if you had to restart the device somewhere in-between the two steps or after it.
This did help a lot of people.
The phone seemed to be in-between "don't keep activities" and full multi-tasking somehow.
Hope it works for you!

Problems I don't know I have seldom bother me. Not disputing that there's an issue, but the number of pitchforks and torches brought out should be commensurate with the degree of the problem. That's what I think shirreer was trying to say before he got ***** slapped. This is one of the most emotional forums on XDA I’ve ever participated in.
i have the international version and i don't have this issue.
fb, skype, doplhin hd browser, google talk, xda and even riptide are all open and can be switched back and forth without needing refresh
