When using a Bluetooth headset to voice dial (Sprint Epic 4G Galaxy S), the volume of the dialer prompt is very low. Once a number is dialed, the in-call volume is perfect. I've tried Plantronics, Ant, and Bose headsets but all get the same results. My wife has the same phone and the same problem. Both are running Froyo EC05 Prerooted/ClockWorkMod v2.5.1.0 (RFS Filesystem) Odexed.
I've searched the forum but can't find a fix for this. Would this be ROM or Kernel related? I'm new to Android dev, but willing to dig into this if I can just be pointed in the right direction.
I've noticed this same issue ever since I got BT voice dial to work. Haven't found any way to change it. It would be nice to increase it to a little bit higher so you can tell when its listening.

Hi,
I wanted everybody to be aware of this issue.
When you use a Jawbone Prime with TouchPro2, on every other handset, you can disconnect the call on Jawbone by pressing the send/end key on the Jawbone.
This function of using the end key on the Jawbone does not work on the Telus TouchPro2.
I have gone through troubleshooting with Jawbone, still have same issue.
HTC sort of seems to be aware and will not troubleshoot.
Telus Data support were useless, no troubleshooting.
I believe this may be just an issue on Telus model, HTC was not aware of issues with T Mobile version or European versions.
I will also post to PPC Geeks and XDA developers as well.
Does anyone have a solution/reg edit that will solve this issue?

same issues w. verizon tp2 and jb prime
verizon tp2. unable to end call from jb prime. voice command, volume toggle, last call commands all work from jb prime. Just can't end a call from headset...
VZW TP2 has many BT Handsfree Bugs
Have similar problems with 2 Motorola headsets and Jawbone on VZW TP2. BT Handsfree has many issues --
1) cannot end calls from headset
2) cannot consistently access voice command.
3) Voice command reads sms and email headers aloud over the handset speaker when set to speak to BT headset only.
4) Dialer touch tones come out of phone speaker instead of headset.
5) Touch screen numeric pad goes blank after ~1minute on a BT handsfree call.
6) And then there is the irritating alert that BT headset disconnected so I should put the phone to my ear -- as if I didnt know I shut the thing off myself or could no longer hear a call! I wish at least that alert could automatically clear after 5 seconds.
I filed a support request for 1-5 with VZW earlier today. Forgot about #6 until moments after I ended the call and turned off the headset. VZW rep gave me HTC Tech Support phone number. Will call them Monday AM!
I had no issue using the JB2 on TMO. I just ordered the JB PRIME and i am helping its the same.
I'm having the same issue with the HTC Ozone. No call/end button, no redial, and no voice command. However, if I reboot the phone, everything works just fine! But then, almost at random, it just stops working again... Any ideas??
If this is anything like my aging Hermes I wouldn't expect a fix from HTC ever
Its depressing to know 3 years later it still seems impossible to get a phone with working ms vc and the kicker is this phone comes with it.
Hi
I have a HTC Desire and a blueparrot bluetooth headset.
Have tried a few different mods and currently running latest cyanogenmod 7 stable version.
The volume of the microphone is VERY low, so quiet that some people cannot even hear me. If I change to phone mic or speakerphone volume is absolutely fine for them.
Also if I am trying to use the bluetooth headset for voice commands, it is very lucky to get anything correct, no doubt because the volume is so low.
The headset has been tried on other (non Android) devices and works fine. I am pretty sure it is something to do with the Android OS.
I also do not recall having this problem with the stock HTC image that was on the phone, although I only know its a problem if people complain.
I notice that there is a kernel patch for HD2 versions (which I guess mine could not support being a revision 1 desire) that provides for /proc/miclevel control.
Is there any way that I can fix this? Or any roms and kernels that may have this fixed?
I also require the call recording patch in the kernel to be able to record calls without using the speakerphone, so if anyone can incorporate that into suggestions if possible too please?
Thanks for your help.
Regards
Andy

Is there a way to increase in-call volume past the default maximum? I tried disabling voice privacy, using Volume+ and manually editing build.prop, all to no avail. I'm running the VZW (LTE) Galaxy Nexus.
Thanks!
Wait on Samsung to use decent speakers in the GNEXII?
I agree it's annoying. The speakers (earpiece and external speaker) are junk. Shocked that they actually sourced such crappy hardware for a "flagship" phone.

I think my phone is defective. I can't change the IN CALL volume while on a call. Using the volume rocker, you see it move up and down on the screen but the volume stays the same.
I have the same problem
I'm really frustrated. The in-call volume on my phone is so quiet, I can barely use it unless I'm in a quiet environment. I have installed volume+, which works great to boost sound level of rings, noises, and music playing from the speaker. But the Volume+ settings for bluetooth and in-call do nothing.
It's funny... when I'm on the bluetooth speaker phone for my car and call someone, it's loud for the first ring, and then much quieter from the second ring onward.
If someone could help fix this problem, I would be extremely grateful.
Thanks,
Kevin
I'm still on stock... so that might be my problem. I have a Motorola Oasis BT and love it, but when I hit the button for voice dialer, it's always at half volume. It resets back to that EVERY TIME! I hate that it can't confirm what it thinks I said. I've dialed so many wrong people... UGH! This has to be a Google issue. I only wish CD+ worked with 4.0. The programmer told me there is no way it will ever be updated to work.
The sound volume through the BT is nothing like my EVO. Even my loud talkers I can barely hear now even on the highest settings.
I want to root the device and hope something comes out to fix it. I drive a truck and need to hear without having to pull off the road.
Anyone notice that the incall volume is too low? I noticed this when I was listening to Pandora in my car with the AUX input. A call comes in, I can barely hear the caller even with the incall volume at 100. I pump up the stereo to be able to hear, then the call ends, and I have Pandora blasting my ears off.
Tried apps, the service menu isnt the same as I've seen online in other posts, so frustrated......

Hey babokd,
Though this is my first post on XDA, I have been "trolling" quite a while and sucking up all the useful information I can. That said, this is the first time that I think I may have an answer. I hope this helps.
Bottom Line: If you have Google Voice installed, try uninstalling it and then make a call.
I will offer the troubleshooting I went through below so that anyone reading this can guage the validity of this and provide better commentary. I am not half as technically smart as the rest of the people here!
I have been having the same issue with my T-Mobile SGSII. I went through great lengths to figure it out. I noticed that on my phone the volume rocker works during calls to turn up and down when connected to auxillary and on speaker. However, the volume does not actually change.
I believe this issue stems with the KL1 update that I obtained through Samsung Kies. I reverted back to stock and the volume worked fine. I updated again to the KL1 update and reloaded all my apps, etc. Volume was broke again! (note: I did not install Google Voice when I reverted back to stock, so this could be an issue in the stock version as well).
As you suggested about the service menu... I am not sure if this is a KL1 issue, but on my T-Mobile variant of the SGSII (T989), the service codes that a lot of people are talking about do not work as well. It says "menu does not exist" after entering the codes.
In attempt to find a better answer for the T-Mobile variant, I updated to KL1 and installed all my apps one by one, but making a phone call after each app was installed. In my case, I found the culprit:
Google Voice
As opposed to other posts that I have seen saying Google Voice helps increase the call volume, I suggest that it does not. On the contrary, it makes the volume stick at low volume with no way to turn it up in speaker or auxillary. I uninstalled Google Voice and voila!, volume works again.
After all of this, I will still note that my SGSII volume is still not at the level I want during calls, but it is a whole lot more acceptable. Unfortunately, I can't use Google Voice for my calls now because I have it uninstalled just so I can make calls while driving.
I hope this was semi-insightful and helps you and others. At the very least, I hope someone else that is more tech-saavy chimes in!
Do any options help in the call settings like hearing aid or TTY? Seems like these might affect the volume output.
I was just on a call and the volume seemed to be max on the earpiece. Pressing the volume switch shows the increase and decrease as pressed but the output volume stayed at max. I made a second call and the problem went away. Not sure what the deal is, maybe related to the rom i am using (beastmod)
Are you running a custom rom or stock? Most custom roms I have run are too loud and I end up having the volume between half way which is nice to have wiggle room.
I am running.

Hi bigcletus and DensoYamaha41,
I am not sure if your response was to mine or the OP, but I will provide info in my case anyway.
I wish I had more time to post more information in my original response. In my case, I am only rooted and using the latest superuser. I have the stock ROM.
When I was troubleshooting this issue, I did go into settings to change hearing aid, etc., but that did not help. The only thing that helped was removing Google Voice.
It does seem to be an app incompatibility issue because when I end the call with Google Voice, the "hang up" sound played by the dialer app is really loud. When I turn the volume down and hang up, the volume of the "hang up" sound is really low. The actual in call volume does not change.
I do plan to run a custom rom someday, but I literally just got the Galaxy SII. I like to play with the original for a while before I change over.
If the OP has the same setup as me, I believe Google Voice is the culprit. For anyone out there reading this, do you have the the following: Google Voice installed on the T-Mo variant of SGSII and running rooted stock ROM with the KL1 update? If so, are you running into a volume issue as the OP stated?
I'm noticing that call volume only when speaker is enabled is extremely low. Volume for music played through the speaker or headset volume is just fine, strangely it only affects the speakerphone during a call.
I'm running LiquidSmooth 2.4 I believe, I haven't upgraded to 2.5 since last I heard that bricks phones. Should I just upgrade to CM10.1? I wasn't able to find a list of known issues. Either that, or if someone has a fix for 2.4 or something.
Thanks in advance for any help.
EDIT: I did find an existing thread about this, but it's back from January
