First thing I need is to find a decent method eveything I've tired so far does not work. The most of them have been one-click methods so maybe thats the issue. What would you suggest?
i thought the root without a pc method was the easiest for me. i cheated and used a computer to move files over but i didnt really have too much trouble with it. i had a cliq before and could just do the one click method for rooting so i didnt have much experience beforehand.

I've had my Evo for about 3 weeks now and am now wanting to root now that I see cyanogenmod is coming to Evo. I've rooted my Nexus and G1 with no problems but it seems the Evo is more difficult, what is the easiest way to root my Evo? And would someone be willing to help me with rooting it via IM or something similar?
There are tons of threads in the android development forum to show you how. Not to mention there was a one click root at some point if I am not mistaken, although I have no idea if it still works.

Yea, I've seen all of them and they all seem tedious compared to Nexus rooting. Which is the best method to go about rooting? I want to use Amon RA recovery if that helps. I'd really appreciate if someone could help me too.
Can anyone help?
Simple Root is 3 clicks & you're rooted & nand unlocked. Running win7 x64 & worked great for me.
I was reading up on it, do I need to uninstall HTC sync and the HTC drivers to get it to work??
I believe for unrevoked you need to remove those items ( the last time i checked at v2 ).
Versus Simple Root... I believe those are all required to get it to work.
What Version is your phone it would be much easier to know

Its 1.47.651.1 I'm going to try the 1 simple root method, but just have one question, am I supposed to have it on charge only or disk drive?
Charge-only
Awe crap, I forgot to put flash recovery, was I supposed to do that first or can I do that after step 1 or something???
Ok, so I got to part 4 and it just says starting part 2, thats it, it doesn't do anything more. Did I do something wrong, or....? Please help.
So could someone please help me???????
What method are u using? Try unrevoked 3, its very simple
*This was posted from my Evo 4G*
I had to do this after the using simple root method.

Thanks for replying guys, but I got it to work finally late last night. Anyways, I can't get wireless tether to work. It keeps force closing. I know I have root and everything because I was able to make a nand backup and I flashed Damagecontrol.

You really can't brick this phone as you can't do anything to the bootloader. Nothing short of pulling the battery while flashing the radio from the engineering image or something is going to brick it.
There have been no reports of anyone killing their phone yet.
Edit: will there be another method? You will have to go to a psychic forum to get the answer to that one.
actually there is a process but i really dont wanan tell anyone how to brick their mytouch slide.. just sees evil, ya know/
please link the guide to which youre talking about
haha
YouTube...
what a wonderful ally! Try googling for a video on rooting this phone. You'll find it there...or check out the ROM BIBLE for links...
Well, even though you should have looked first, here is the link to kingofyo's well done video of Eugene's method. After you have root, you HAVE TO flash the ENG ROM to DOWNGRADE your rom and radio. The link's in the ROM BIBLE, also. But make sure that once you're done with ENG and you flashed your chosen rom, make SURE flash the newest slide radio, also found in the "Bible". Good luck, Chuck...
lol i love how my community service speaks for itself and people recommend my stuff right off ^^
i thought i read somewhere that the NEWEST mt3gs has been patched in our root method.
the new mt3gs has smaller numbers on the top row of the physical keyboard
well i know of people who have already rooted theirs(the new ones) so i wouldnt say its unrootable

And just when I was beginning to lose hope, everything worked.
I was using my program with the "stop after one 'offline'" setting. I'll upload a copy so that others can use it. It's a C#.NET program so you'll need windows and the .NET framework. It should be placed in the SDK tools folder. When your phone is on or starting, click "Run" and it'll take you through a full cycle telling you if it's successful or not (except if you tell it to stop after one "offline", then you should run adb devices to check if it worked or not). If it doesn't work, restart the phone and click Run again once it's far enough through the startup. It's by no means magic and if your phone is like mine, expect to do it many many times for it to work. However it does make it simpler since you only need to press 3 buttons every time you cycle.
"Adaptive timing" makes the program start the loop a second and a half before it detected offline mode last time. I'm not sure if that's any good, but others said that it works better when you loop for as little as possible.

This worked for me on the first try when other methods didn't come through. I'm not guaranteeing it will work for you too, but maybe.... just maybe...
Just unzip the file to your root SDK folder with adb.exe then make sure you have installed .NET framework then run the Autorun.exe. Good luck.

Yup. I had a new one and the easiest way to go about doing it is by keeping the battery cover off, keep loop running and keep going into recovery then battery-pulling if it doesn't work.
It's not exactly elegant, but it lets you get a ton of tries done in a fraction of the time - I was basically fully rooted within 10 minutes of starting after I started using this method.

Or maybe the easy way to root it like the droid x. Where you just connect your device and click on root me or unroot me.

I wish we could use flashrec: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...0bioAw&usg=AFQjCNFl4TpWi3QnwoU2WlTIns0-nL5Kjw
You can just dl the recovery then it flashes it for you, used it to root my g1 multiple times. Too bad it probably wont work on the MTS....Unless a dev could modify it for us...Would save a lot of trouble with dealing with loop or offline in rec.

Im trying to root my wifes mt3gs, shes finally sick of espresso amd ready for cm!
I noticed theres about 3 differrent methods to root it..
If anyone has used these methods and can tell me which was more user friendly I would eternaly greatful, of course i prefer a "1-click-root" method but i dont think that exsists does it?
thanx in advance..
i have tried two methods, exploid was the most straight forward and easiest. cm6 does not yet support bluetooth.

Do you mean this thread?

One click method? Never seen that for the slide. I used Eugenes method to root which is in the slide Rom bible and so far I've been able to root all 3 slides Ive ended up with very easily. You will have to use command prompt on ur computer but if u watch the video its really not hard at all. This is my.first android phone and it was simple for me so try it out an let us know.

go with exploid
I agree with whgarner, I used the exploid method and that was fast and efficient
I used this method and strongly recommend it: HTC Slide root guide from cyanogenmod
The guide assumes that you have already setup Android SDK on your computer and that you have installed the correct drivers for your phone so if you have'nt done that already you will need to, as all the methods I have seen so far for the Slide require ADB. Lemme know if you got any questions.

Hey im a new member the forum, but i've been surfing it for quite some time, and have also been trying to root a Desire Z 2.3.3 for a while now, and im no good at ADB (complete newb), and have failed in every other "Noob friendly" guide . So i was wondering if anyone didnt mind to set up a remote session and root it for me and maybe either teach me or to flash a ROM or two.
Much thanks
~Trev
just follow the wiki guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...sion#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
if you have questions related to that guide post it here or pm me...
it´s actually not that complicated
Funny that was one of the first ones i tried, and i am willing to bet i made a mistake in more than one place. Didnt even come close to working it haha. I take noob to a new meaning of the word XD
ok i will try to help you...
first thing you need to do is get adb to work. follow the guide i posted to do this...
to see if it worked do the following:
enable usb debugging on your phone connect it to your pc open cmd.exe go to your platform-tool folder and type "adb devices" if your phone shows up you are good to go....
Make sure you downgrade first. Not trolling, just throwin it out there
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Ive got it working following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912 and now i have run into the wall that the stock rom DL for the Desire z (vision) is down or not working anymore, if anyone has another source to dl it PLEASE share quick!
EDIT: NVM i found it!
honestly, i found that the guide on cyanogenmod was the easiest by far.
i tried xda's way and kept getting frustrated. no offence to anyone by any means, but for my personal perspective cm's way was much easier for me. and i was a complete newb, even though ive have some knowledge with cmd.
I've done a bit of researching on rooting but most of it has been evasive to me at best.. I can do the typical jailbreak on an iPod, but lets face it, that's pretty easy. I'm looking to root my HTC Incredible and I've seen such word of a ?program? called "Revoked" or "unrevoked"... and I was hoping someone could give me knowledge about that or even better & easier rooting help.
My Incredible is at 2.3.4 and I'm running an HP with windows (I've heard its needed to know that when rooting hahaha)
I'm good at following directions but I'm not the geek of the family; mainly I could use some help as my battery is dying extraordinarily quick even though I have the extended battery,
I also have looked at scotty1223's "root2.3.4,downgrade..." but I cant seem to make much sense of it..
Thanks for your time,
-TIN

Ok, let me ask you this, are you just wanting root access? if so just do the first and second part of Scotty's method, I did this to my Dinc and got root access, but you have to follow it to a (T) or it wont work, just take your time.
Then I did the the rest of his tutorial which involves alot more time on your pc with a command window and typing things, or you can copy and paste the commands like I did straight from the tutorial.
PM me if you need more help and I will help you....
