because i am having alot of problems trying to root my mytouch slide
ive looked through all the guides and im really scared to brick my phone,
(i bricked my mytouch 3G :[ )
so can someone give me a guide tht shows what the phone is doing while ur doing everything on your comp? or something more clear?
because i am very afraid of bricking
please get back to me ASAP!
I can guide you through the process but everyone here spent hours figuring it out before simpleroot came out you should try that maybe.

You really can't brick this phone as you can't do anything to the bootloader. Nothing short of pulling the battery while flashing the radio from the engineering image or something is going to brick it.
There have been no reports of anyone killing their phone yet.
Edit: will there be another method? You will have to go to a psychic forum to get the answer to that one.
actually there is a process but i really dont wanan tell anyone how to brick their mytouch slide.. just sees evil, ya know/
please link the guide to which youre talking about

YouTube...
what a wonderful ally! Try googling for a video on rooting this phone. You'll find it there...or check out the ROM BIBLE for links...
Well, even though you should have looked first, here is the link to kingofyo's well done video of Eugene's method. After you have root, you HAVE TO flash the ENG ROM to DOWNGRADE your rom and radio. The link's in the ROM BIBLE, also. But make sure that once you're done with ENG and you flashed your chosen rom, make SURE flash the newest slide radio, also found in the "Bible". Good luck, Chuck...
lol i love how my community service speaks for itself and people recommend my stuff right off ^^
i thought i read somewhere that the NEWEST mt3gs has been patched in our root method.
the new mt3gs has smaller numbers on the top row of the physical keyboard
well i know of people who have already rooted theirs(the new ones) so i wouldnt say its unrootable

And just when I was beginning to lose hope, everything worked.
I was using my program with the "stop after one 'offline'" setting. I'll upload a copy so that others can use it. It's a C#.NET program so you'll need windows and the .NET framework. It should be placed in the SDK tools folder. When your phone is on or starting, click "Run" and it'll take you through a full cycle telling you if it's successful or not (except if you tell it to stop after one "offline", then you should run adb devices to check if it worked or not). If it doesn't work, restart the phone and click Run again once it's far enough through the startup. It's by no means magic and if your phone is like mine, expect to do it many many times for it to work. However it does make it simpler since you only need to press 3 buttons every time you cycle.
"Adaptive timing" makes the program start the loop a second and a half before it detected offline mode last time. I'm not sure if that's any good, but others said that it works better when you loop for as little as possible.

This worked for me on the first try when other methods didn't come through. I'm not guaranteeing it will work for you too, but maybe.... just maybe...
Just unzip the file to your root SDK folder with adb.exe then make sure you have installed .NET framework then run the Autorun.exe. Good luck.

Yup. I had a new one and the easiest way to go about doing it is by keeping the battery cover off, keep loop running and keep going into recovery then battery-pulling if it doesn't work.
It's not exactly elegant, but it lets you get a ton of tries done in a fraction of the time - I was basically fully rooted within 10 minutes of starting after I started using this method.

You can just dl the recovery then it flashes it for you, used it to root my g1 multiple times. Too bad it probably wont work on the MTS....Unless a dev could modify it for us...Would save a lot of trouble with dealing with loop or offline in rec.

Yea Yea, I know the most common question, yet I don't see anything for the newest version (3.26.651.6)
I am not looking for any special Rom, just a standard Root.. A one click would be great, but whatever you guys recommend would be awesome!
THANKS!!

First, 3.26 is not the newest version. The current OTA is 3.29.
Second, Look at unrEVOked to root both 3.26 and 3.29.
Edit: I just searched. http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787304
Just followed all that exactly, I have NO idea if it worked or not.. It went to the boot screen twice on mine and only once on the video and the video also showed it going into a dos type of screen "loading" things (on the phone)
MINE DIDNT DO ANY OF THAT..
This is nuts! How am I to tell if it is installed or not? The instructions dont tell you at all how to check!!

Restart the phone into boot loader. (Volume down + power.)
Does it say S-Off in the first line?
Yes? Then you should load into Clockwork by selecting recovery.
Also is super user app installed?
If yes to both, you should be rooted.
The dos screen was probably adb, just to show it was rooted.
If you open the tools folder with adb in it and type "adb shell" it should show a $ if its rooted and a # if it is not.
If you type "su" your phone should then show a superuser request, which also means you're rooted with super user access.
(I clicked though the videos but didn't see any dos screens. :-/)

learn how to use the search feature on this site, and read the instructions 3times before trying to do something you are not familiar with on your new phone. Rushing into things will only cause you problems...
if you show S-off in the bootloader menu then you have done the root correctly.
Goodluck.
do a search for "One Click How to Root the EVO with Unrevoked 3.21" by djR3Z
i just rooted my evo yesterday using the instructions in his post. it's the easiest and quickest method i've found. hope this helps.
Yea I rushed a little for sure..
But Im coming from a CE phone and very familiar with it..
Here is the problem... and I notice with many many other people to.
I wound up doing the 1 click rooting, but it took some digging and searching to figure out I needed an additional program, (SU)
It doesn't mention on almost every tutorial that you need to get a file managing program and the SU program.
Sure it teaches you how to root properly, but to actually benefit from the root you need the other files.
Well, in anycase, Im happy got what I wanted and what I wanted to work, works flawlessly
Thanks guys!
Unrevoked installed SU for me.
You can also get a flashable zip from the forums here.
And super user is also on the market.
Oh, btw...
Congrats!

Ok so this will be my 7th android phone I am getting tomorrow.
I am getting it for sprints coverage increase over t-mobile.
Also for 4G
I am hoping to run cyanogen rom since thats what I had on my nexus and on my
MytouchSlide
Ok here are my q's
I keep seeing different ways to root. what is the advantage of one way over another? is there a large risk of bricking with the one click method? losing root?
i have heard something about a /s root? wtf does this mean. I have never heard of anything like this and I rooted all my phones myself up until this point.... Ive even rooted most of my friends phones.
4G I keep hearing people saying they lose 4G. How is this possible is their a way to NOT lose 4g? has anyone successfully flashed a rom without losing 4G?
I mean I would rather not root my phone than lose 4g but at the same time I really want a rooted phone.
since Cyanogen mod is pretty much useless to me what is another good rom?
how can I get to it without bricking or losing 4g?
So if someone could give me the rundown i would greatly appreciate it.
I am excited for the Evo but am hesitant based on what I have read...
ok. whatever u do, DONT try rooting using Unrevoked, one-click, 1.47 method. none of dat crap.
This is ur answer for rooting.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
no automatic shz(maybe just some parts)
it works for any windows computer. just make sure u have adb set up on ur comp and ur good to go.
read the instructions and disclaimers.
make sure u have ur hboot drivers updated(theyre in the post but just go along)
cyanogenmod of course does not have 4G at this moment cuz they build their rom from ground up.
a good rom to use for like 4G and wifi tether and shz would be "Fresh"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743079
of course theres alot more roms out there for evo...u can take a look at mostly all of them here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Supersonic/ROMs
themes however are pretty hard to find. so i wont go there.
hboot is like the bootloader security program. if u notice, when u go to ur bootloader(holding power and volume down at the sametime) you'll see it says, Hboot 2.02 S-ON. my definition of that is,S=security-On. so obviously u wanna turn it off so u can get root, and that link i posted turns it off during the process. dats all there really is too it

Lol now you know as well as I do people don't actually read other threads. just the ones they post themselves lol.
So my questions are
I read there is a way to back up your 4g so if you ever **** yourself out of 4g you can restore.
Is this true?
I have heard alot of issues about a new camera... since mine will be purchased in 13 hours is their anything I have to worry about in regards to screwing the camera all up?
Also I had read not to use any other recovery other than the one that root tutorial includes.
is that true?
you had told me
"make sure u have ur hboot drivers updated(theyre in the post but just go along)"
is that hboot202-s_off-V71.zip?
How do i update them?
you had also said "ok. whatever u do, DONT try rooting using Unrevoked"
yet the tutprial you linked to says to
adb push root/unrevoked-forever.zip /sdcard/
adb push root/mtd-eng.img /sdcard/
adb push pc36img/PC36IMG-ENG.zip /sdcard/PC36IMG.zip
adb push pc36img/PC36IMG-MR.zip /sdcard/PC36IMG-MR.zip
adb push root/flash_image /data/local/
adb push root/rageagainstthecage /data/local/tmp
Is that an ok version of this unrevoked?
I miss my MTSlide lol. alas I am on a T-mobile employee plan (cause I am a T-mobile employee) and Am way past tired of being treated like someone who does NOT spend money on my line even though I pay 45 for 1 line. So I am switching To sprint tomorrow. I broke the screen on My mytouch Slide and they want me to pay a 130 dollar deductible on a phone with a 700 mhz processor ( only cause I OVER CLOCKED IT!)
sorry for so many questions. It just seems like I have found a lot of answers that contradict each other and I am not looking forward to a brick.

lol its all good. what people mean by dont use Unrevoked, its actually a .exe program dat will do it all for you, but since the current version they have is not update with the securities and stuff, it wont work and will infact crash your 4G.
backing up ur 4G, uhh im not so sure about that, my advise, root it first then make a nandroid backup lol.
the camera version isnt so big but it just has to do with watever rom u have and i like i mentioned before, Fresh should be a good one to use(in the rooting process u acually flash over a rom called"Stock_Rooted) but it wont f k it up. But, if u do endup messing up ur camera, its because of the rom doesnt work with ur phone so just flash one dat does work and you'll be good.
in the Like A Boss method, yes u do use unrevoked-forever, its just a zip. not a program so its usable, u get?
the "hboot202-s_off-V71.zip" file is actually ALL the files u will need in rooting.\

u got it. and yes. im sure about the camera issue too. flashing another recovery instead of the one it came with for rooting will fk it up. besides that, ur good.
and no i dont have 4G working. due to the fact im using CM6.1RC2 and he does not support 4G YET, but i love his work and feels grreat and everything on my phone is really easy to customize. im not so big on 4G anyway due to because i live in Sac Town, CA, and 4G isnt dat big here so its like on and off, so it just kills my battery qucker AND im always connected to my wifi. lol
one other important thing i should add to u before u do it by accident.
when ur rooting it, you'll come up to the point when ur done and have booted into the rom. it says to update ur PRL/PROFILE. on the phone, to get system updates u have to go to Settings>System Updates>and theres like 4 options. Update PRL, Update Profile, Update HTC Software, Update Firmware. ONLY! update PRL and PROFILE. dont update HTC SOFTWARE or else you'll lose partial root. lol. keep dat in mind cuz once u boot ur phone, a pop up might appear saying 3.30.somehitng and its 6mbs. update Yes, or Cancel. CANCEL DAT TART! lol
ONE MORE IMPORTANT THING! lol sorry its just dat it happened to me with 2 hones and i wanna keept u aware of these thigns.
on the Like a Boss method when rooting, wen u get to step 10...
>>>>>>10) You should still be in the boot loader at this point. Scroll down to recovery and press the power button. When you see the red triangle.<<<<<<
when u click on recovery, if it reboots and is stuck on the white HTC splash Screen for more than 15 seconds, just do a battery pull and get back to the bootloader and hit Recovery again. dont worry, everything u did wasnt a complete waste. and once u et to the red triangle with phone screen, resume with the guide.
youll see what im talking about when u get there.
Alright man imma do it... Im nervous lol. I got the 4g now
Successfully rooted and running frost rom ( Very close to Vanilla android or aosp i guess its called) Running well. I was wondering if you know how to get hulu running?
and can you explain to me what kernels I can flash?
With the new evos, only stock htc kernels work 100% atm, from my experience. I have tried a few others but they all stop the camera from working and some cause done graphic tearing. Until the new source comes out, I would stick with htc #10 or #17.

Here's a basic stock rom in case you need it sometime
the only modifications made are the su and flash_image binaries are included and ro.secure has been turned to 0 so you can adb remount.
How to flash download the rom from here
Place rom on sdcard
wipe data and all else
then flash rom
reboot and do what you need to do
Cool, you never know when you might need this.
Thank you! Appreciated.

How is this comparable to the rom listed here?
bit ly backslash fBEJnU
I want to have a known working recovery before I make any more changes to my phone. I am not exactly a newbie to this stuff (I have a Pandigital Novel that has been rooted and hacked into a nice tablet) but this is taking things to a whole new level for me and I need my phone. So I'm a bit nervous.
Of course I really wish I'd asked around some before I got to work on removing some of the stuff on it already (mostly known junkware from Virgin Mobile and stupid stuff like weblinks pretending to be native apps) after rooting it with superoneclick and installing root explorer. I need to know if your rom or the one I linked to will be able to allow me to roll back to a default installation that I can revert to if there are any issues down the road. Can you help me?
I apologize if this isn't the right place for this question. Thank you for the many mods I have seen you do already. I look forward to trying them once I have a fallback plan.

I'm not actually sure what your talking about but I've posted this on three different sites so far. I do that for the guys that don't go to other forums. There probably isn't any difference in the roms.

I'm talking about the one by takehull posted on sdx-developers here.
Yours is not exactly stock since you added su and flash_image binaries--or does that really not matter?
Thanks for the reply.

PS: I appreciate that you try to post your work as far and wide as possible, it made it easier for me to find it.
PPS: Which forum is best to follw for work relating to the LG Optimus V?
For the record, I like it as is.
Saves me the trouble of having to root all over again.

I'm not sure exactly how his is different since I didn't build it. I'm gonna guess and say his probably doesn't have the binaries in it, I'm not sure exactly how his is different since I didn't build it. I'm gonna guess and say that his doesn't have the binaries in it. I don't know. Honestly the only way to know for sure that it's stock rom is to get someone that hasn't rooted yet flash the recovery and get a backup of system. I've been waiting for someone like that to come along but ... It hasn't happened yet.
I won't tell you which forums to watch but I'm partial to xda cuz I been on here since my first android phone and it doesn't have those flash ads that pop up cover your entire screen until you click the x.

Well upon further re-reading the other thread I saw this posted:

The only modifications this has are the two binaries that you put into /system/bin when you root. You can remove them by using Superoneclick Root and selecting "unroot."

My only excuse is that it was late when I found the thread and I wasn't reading clearly. Going by that statement his rom and your rom basically seem to be the same things.

Forgive my ignorance, but isn't rooting actually a requirement of obtaining the backup? Or did I misread the instructions somewhere? It'd be nice if someone at Virgin Mobile were to leak the complete rom somewhere so people had a fall back option besides trying to return the phone as bricked. (If that's even possible?)

Sounds like a good reason to pick a forum. Not sure if I'm a member of any places that do that since I run with adblock and noscript enabled most of the time.
Any chance you could link me to written instructions on how to flash the rom you have here? I know you have video tutorials but those are harder to follow for me because I am hard of hearing. Music I can do because it is "beautiful noise" and I can usually find some lyrics to get the words of. Your video HOWTOs are not good for me because I have to strain to hear what is being said.
Thanks again for your time and patience in replying to me.

Thanks. Dude above me, there is a rom flashing tutorial at prepaidandroids.net. We will help you out there. Its a site that specializes in on the Optimus v itself.
(Optimus V - Contracts Suck)
Thanks for posting this. It just came in handy when I was changing my virgin phone number. Part of the process is dialing ##841446# to bring up the activation menu, but the ## prefix on CM7 does not work, apparently only a stock ROM can do that.
Any way to put it on a phone friendly site? No matter what browser I use on my phone it will not download from google docs.

THANKS, this worked perfectly.
It's pretty much as described, a stock Opt V rom, with Super User already set up and installed.
Titanium worked on it no problem as well.
thanks a ton man! i needed to flash back to stock to get my 3G working again. if you flash a custom rom while youre between payments, you know, during down time, you may need to flash back to stock and run the activation app next time you put service on your phone.
worked like a charm. i thought my 3G was broken. im doing a happy dance now!
Anyway I can get a link to the stock rom with all the bloatware removed but not rooted?

I just recently bought a G2 and updated its software...But I'm clueless where to start/how to root the phone. I looked through some stickies, but I got lost right away. Can anyone help or show me something a lot easier to follow? Thanks
Word to the wise, if the rooting process seemed too hard to do do not do it and stay stock, lot less risk of your phone bricking.

What software did you upgrade? You may have to downgrade to root, pay attention to software versions.

I'm on 2.2
Build number 1.22.531
Kerner 2.6.32.17
Hboot-0.82
Just follow the steps on the wiki like a member said. I had no experience whatsoever but managed to learn a little adb and successfully rooted my phone. Use the rage gfree method. It is simple with the least chance of bricking

The Wiki guide is right here, if you haven't found it yet:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
Just read up as much as you can before you start, and follow the instruction very carefully, and you will be fine.
The Gingerbread (Android 2.3) OTA that is currenlty being deployed is not currently rootable (and requires downgrading first to root), but you should be okay since you are still on the T-Mobile 2.2 ROM still.

It should work on a Mac. Just dual boot into a Linux distribution.
Could someone post the Windows USB Drivers for the Vision?
The link is dead, and i couldn't find anything after I searched for it.
Can somebody also post T-Mobile G2 and HTC Desire Z: recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.4-vision.img (md5sum cbc776e7941ebf030e9fa39473d5b6f1)
? The link won't load, I'l borrow my friends windows to do this. Thanks so much!
Edit:

Will this method work after doing a temp root? It seems a lot easier
As far as the usb drivers go, I used pda.net from the market. If after you install pda.net it still sees your phone as usb mass storage only, then unplug your phone, remove the current driver and plug it back in. It should ask you if you want to set up your new hardware and show it as an android device

Just download HTC Sync, it comes with the drivers:

There is a similar post about the Clockworkmod download. Might just be down temporarily. Try again later.

NO. And yes. Confused? Here is a link to the method myself and many others have used: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928160
This is an "easy" method using Visionary to temp root ONLY and then G-free for perm root. Do not be tempted to check "perm-root now" on Visionary since there is a high brick risk. Anyhow, this method runs scripts so much less chance for typo errors... just follow the simple directions to the letter and you will be rooted in no time. Works like a dream.
That was easy! hah, this was a lot easier than what the wiki told me to do. Thank you so much
edit:i restored to my back up (phew ), but why does the CM screen keep on repeating after I try installing 7.03?
i rooted everything fine, but after installing CM 7, the boot logo keeps on repeating, and the home screen won't pop up. is there a fix for this? :/
No prob.
Did you do a full wipe before flashing CM7? Even if you did, I'd recommend a "Superwipe". This is a zip you flash from recovery like anything else, and it really gets to everything on your phone's memory. I don't have the direct link but you can download it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991254
It's down the page a bit, in the "attached files". The one on the top called SuperWipeG2+. Also, the ROM on that page is a nice one if you're looking for stuff other than CM. (Though CM is a good place to start)
I didn't do a complete wipe, I just did something else instead. I figured it out before checking this up, but thank you a lot for the help. +Thanks
I'm tyring to root my LG Nitro HD after I updated it to software version LG-P930-V10j-FEB-26-2012. Can I even root? Is there a way to root? If neither, could a very awesome dev find a way around the update? I would be eternally grateful.

Sorry, there is no way to root for now. I‘ve tried all of the methods. If it‘s so critically to you, come back to stock rom before update.

How do you go back to stock ROM?
Nitro HD root
Figure if you really want to root then do a factory reset.
Nitro HD Root
Nevermind, just realized that won't reset the update... I think we're screwed!!! On top of that, I think messing around trying to get my phone to root has really slowed it down too.

I thought mine slowed down a lot after attempting root processes over and over water I believe happens is the RAM gets clogged (I saw it a lot wen flashing different firmwares wen I was in the PSP hacking scene) so wat I did is just let my battery die all the way out and leave it dead for awhile maybe even take the battery out wen it dies for the RAM to clear

From what I have been able to find out we are not totally screwed... you need to use the "unbrick" guide found here. But I have not had any luck with this because I do not have Windows (I use OSX and Fedora Linux).
If anyone can figure out how to do this with either that would be awesome
Yeah I've been trying to follow the unbricking method that Machzelet posted but I can't get one of the programs to open in Windows 7.
Guys, all you need to do is to carefully read the guide and carry out step by step, as they have written.
UpTestEX_mod2_marwin.exe
Hey I'm just having this huge problem with UpTestEX_mod2_marwin.exe not running at all. I can't get it to open no matter what I do. XP Compatibility, Run as Administrator, nothing works. Otherwise the guide was going very well. Everything seemed to work perfect up until that point.

Well, there is no logical reason is that the program does not start. Try to download that is below and run it. I have it runs perfectly. If this fails, then the problem is in the PC.
Alright I'll try it again when I get home. I did try redownloading it and running through your guide on a different computer, and once again got hung up on that program. I'll let you know if this one works when I get home.
