I'm currently running Bonsai 3.0 and just updated the modem to ec05. I immediately received the notification for the MR4 update. Is it safe to reboot and install this or not? I am perfectly happy with my current setup but I wouldn't mind being up to date.
It won't go thru even if you did accept it. It will fail the checks

I was thinking that. Thanks

i know it'll not be rooted anymore but will it break if i check for updates and update it
if you want to upgrade then yes you will loose root. it should update no matter what unless you are using a different rom or the leaked version of froyo that went out on july 31st. not to sure about the rom thing
i am using a diffrent rom
fresh evo or something
so how do i update?
well if you can update try going to settings > System Updates > Software Update
but i would definitely read around the site a little to see if it will work. It has been a while since i have flashed a custom rom before.

Why not just flash a rooted froyo rom? Unless u really wana go back to stock don't update to ota through system updates via settings. I would just flash one of the many froyo rooted roms on this site if I were you.

Ya either that or modify the update's hboot.img to the engineering hboot..0.76...the flash the update...finally, flash Su-e-unsecured.zip
Most roms (i am pretty sure FRESH doe) block the update using the settings update. If you go to the stock rooted rom you should be able to update or if you "unroot" first you can then go to the ota update and get official 2.2.
I will say flipz just put out his fresh 3.0 froyo based rom it is working great for me with froyo while keeping root.
Got a notification that theres an update for Sprint Voicemail app.
Just wondering if theres any reason not to update this if running a custom rom, custom kernel, etc.
Currently running Fresh 3.1.0.2/Netarchy 4.1.8
It won't update says update check failed.
There shouldn't be any problems installing the update to the Sprint Voicemail, despite running a custom rom. I'm currently running the Fresh Rom and didn't have any problems updating my Voicemail app to the latest version.
You can always do a nandroid backup before updating if you aren't entirely sure.
I can't even get it t update on an unrooted evo. My wife has stock froyo (unrooted) and it always errors. on my rooted evo (stock froyo) it worked fine last week. I think the Sprint servers must be having problems.
How do we go about upgrading to EB13 if we're currently running DK28? I assume we'll either have to go back to eclair to get it over the air, or wait for someone to make an EB13 ROM. We aren't going to be able to download OTA if we're on DK28, right?

nope, wait for the developers to get it, then wait for an updatezip for the eb13 modem and rom from them so u can upgrade from dk28 via stock dk28 or wait for the new update on the current rom you are on.
Correct. My understanding is that the OTA update goes out to people on the DI18 version or Eclair only. Yes, you'd have to flash back to stock DI18 or wait for a ROM.
Personally i'm just going to flash the EB13 Kernel for now from Rodderik [EB13 Genocide Kernel By Rodderik] and stay on DK28 until an EB13 ROM that is rooted comes. Probably just wait for my Favorite rom ** cough ** bonsai ** cough ** to update their ROM to EB13.

yep thats what im waiting for, also waiting for a EB13 flashable modem zip as well as Emotionless beast theme for EB13. It might not be til wednesday or thursday ill get all this but it will be worth it. Plus genocide kernal and bonsai can hold me over for a few more days if not for one day, considering this damn ota is coming out so late tonight!
I stayed on bonsai until the last minute. Once my update.zip downloaded from Samsung, I did a nandroid backup and odined to di18 so I could update. It seems to run pretty well so far, but I've had it for less than an hour and I need to reroot and reinstall my apps before I can really test it out.
You can run the update.exe from the Samsung site. It will wipe your phone completely though.

Who knows. LOL my wife and ik are waiting to let her phone take it, while I went ahead and used the samsung program. Now that I've got the bugs mostly worked out on mine, we'll see how mich difference OTA does.
Ok so I apologize for my ignorance here but seeing as I have an EVO I'm not really used to the process of manually updating the epic for my wife...anyways a while ago I manually flashed the dk28 update on her phone since it wasn't official and she wanted A2SD ability...so now I see all these new builds so now I have just a few questions:
1. What is a good build or version to flash on her phone?
2. Can I flash from dk28 without having to Odin and wipe everything?
3. Do I have to root? (I don't really care but my wife is worried about voiding her contract and blah blah blah )
Any help and insight would be great...and if any of these questions are stupid please go easy on me haha

just odin to di18 it ota if you don't want to root.
otherwise just wait for cm7
You don't want dk28. Go in dev section find the prerooted ec05 by far the best and id suggest flashing acs syndicate rom its by far the best no issues .
For any custom ROM or kernel you have to have root. So if she wants to stay stock then you will need to Odin to DI18 or EB13 and OTA. There is only one stock tar file for EC05. It is probably in the ACS section of development since K0nane released it.

Incorrect. The EC05 stock TAR is fully stock. 100% unmodified full stock.

You cut off my last sentence which mentioned your 100% stock EC05 tar. BTW it would be real helpful if you got it stickied or add it to the OP of your ROM. Thanks big guy.
Do you BONSAI?
I am in the same boat. I was able to upgrade to DK28 when it was originally leaked months ago but I have a new pc without any of the drivers or tools needed so I need a good basics tutorial on how to flash.
I have DK28 and I am hoping I can update without losing anything.
I want the latest, stable.
Should I do EC05, Bonsai or Syndicate? I am rooted.
I am loooking for functionality and simplicity rather than bells and whistles.
Thanks.
So, I got my DInc2 in early July.
The next week, Froyo root AND the OTA Gingerbread update were available, so I decided to root with AlphaRevX, install CWM, and play around with some ROMs, thinking I'd wait until Gingerbread OTA was rootable. I decided I liked GingerSense, and stuck with it.
Until now. I just found out that the OTA update is rootable. No problem, I think, I can just pull it down OTA, right? Nope. I got the android with exclamation point screen. Oh, duh, I tried to install it on top of GingerSense!
OK then, I'll put it back to my stock backup, then pull the OTA update.
Nope. I tried temp rooting into the stock backup, and then re-bloat-ware-ing it since I had frozen some of the crapware. NOPE!
I just want a stock Gingerbread install to rip into.
Is there a noticable difference between GingerSense and the OTA? Should I just stick with GingerSense?
TL;DR
I petition the wise overlords of XDA: I'm running an HTC Droid Incredible 2 on Verizon, rooted from stock Froyo. I have CWM installed, with a GingerSense ROM as my primary as well. I can't for the life of me figure out why the OTA update won't stick, no matter what stunts I pull.

Most likely because you're rooted. I think the ota doesn't work. Install RMKs debloated ROM and update your radio.

I was under the impression that there is a stock recovery check, and no OTA will ever install over a custom recovery.

Yes you are correct. The is exactly the issue that is preventing the OTA from running.
There is no difference if you install the gingersense update and also the firmware update, which updates the touch screen and radio, so just do that, if your missing the Verizon crap that's not in gingersense, download it from market and, bam, you have identical setup as ota, just with root and s off...
