It can cause issues best to wipe if you want 100% sure you are gonna be error free.

It can, if you're have force closes or weird errors. But it won't make it any faster than it already is, ect.

If it's the same exact build of the rom, and you wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing it, 90% of the time you're okay. It's if you don't wipe cache's, or if it's a different build by the same developer, when you run into issues. However, if you do flash it over, and get weird issues and what not, a full wipe and reflash is in order.

Proper way to flash rom and kernel

What is the proper sop to flash a new rom and kernel what should I be wiping? Thanks
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
For best results always do a full wipe in recovery (wipe data, cache and dalvik cache) then flash the ROM or kernel. This is really important if you are changing from one ROM to another. Updating one ROM to a new version of the same ROM does not require any wiping but sometimes the ROM developer recommends a full wipe.
Dalvik cache wipes are also optional but important if going one kerenl to a completely different one.

If I may, the marked text above is misleading; no need whatsoever to be wiping data before flashing a kernel.

actually, to avoid funny weird things and numerous user inflicted problems..
I would almost enforce wipe so ppl can post proper bug reports..

Factory reset for a kernel? Nah, come on. If you're flashing a totally different kernel than the one you have, yes, wipe cache & dalvik. But at most that.

o, i was just following what he way saying with sentiments..
yes, kernel isn't required but depending on the kernel dev, some do leave boot up scripts behind though and not just init.d scripts from past experiences.

[Q] serious question guys!!!!

can i flash the darkside kernel in cwm like a regular flash even tho im running jugg 5.0. or would i have to be running darkside rom??
Yes you can flash different kernels over the default kernel for that rom. I know there are a number of people running this setup. One thing to keep in mind is the kernel is not developed for the rom and you may run into a few issues but overall you should be good to go.

[Q] [Arc S] Installing any JB - same problem

I have a problem with the installation of JB. No matter what ROM I install, after boot, when home screen appear, my touch screen does not respond. I've tried a lot of roms and a lot of kernels. I have unlocked BL. In stock rom I have no problems.
What could be causing this? Should I format system before installing rom via recovery or just wipe data, cache and dalvik? When I should flash kernel? Before/after installing rom? I care about CM10. Plz help.
P.S. sorry for my english

I've tried to do that way but but not succeed
Certain ROMs require phone-specific patch, make sure you install it!
Other ROMs have different downloads for different phones, make sure to download correct one!
If you install wrong phone ROM, touch dies.
All question threads belong here in Q&A so please post in the correct sections going forward.
Thanks

The problem is caused by the kernal. You MUST have JB kernel to flash any JB ROM. Generally, for each ROM you will find the recommended kernel and the required steps. Do exactly like posted by OP.
As an example, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1979829
You can make an idea on the steps to follow.

Ok, so now I have installed Xperia T rom (7.0.A.3.195 v6.0 for ARC/ARC-S). Should I flash V77 baseband, then flash kernel from CM10 FXP150 pack via fastboot, make a wipe (data, cache, dalvik) then install ROM via Recovery, and then install GAPPS and it should work? This is what i'm gonna do, so if I'm wrong please tell me.
EDIT:
(edited in case someone had same problem)
I found the solution:
I had to flash BB 72 and libs, then flash ROM+GAPPS and libs once again, then everything works awesome. (edited in case someone had same problem)

[Q] Updating current rom to the most recent build

I have Carbon ROM which I am thoroughly enjoying. I would like to upgrade to the newest build which I have downloaded on my phone. Is there anyway to update without having to redownload all my apps/reinstall via a backup? Can I just flash over it without wiping my phone?

What about GApps? Will I have to reinstall those as well or are those unaffected?

Yeah, forgot about those! :what:
It's the Wipe Data \ Factory Reset that gets rid of the apps, so throwing in a format /system into your dirty flash won't hurt...

[Q] Question about flashing rom

Hello, i'm a fresh man on my P936.
I got some trouble on flashing roms except of stock rom (full rom).
In my case, I can:
1. Access to CWM
2. Flash stock rom, stock-modificatied rom or full rom successfully
However, I failed in
1. flashing other roms likes PAC-man rom, ChaOS and etc third party rom. After I flashing those rom, and reboot my phone. The screen did not show anything, dark screen with LCD background light.:crying:
I have follow those inspections and tried many times.
Does any users have those experience before? And how can I solve it?
Thanks a lot:angel:
before you flash a non stock rom you need to wipe data, cache, dalvik, wipe battery stats (optional)
also do a nandroid backup before you wipe incase the new rom doesn't work for whatever reason, i had a problem flashing pacrom though too btw, it might just be the rom. you can try an older version or something too
If you're coming from another ROM It is recommended that you first do backup then FULL wipe then flash ROM

Yeah its a bug. Try flashing Wind 2.3 immediately after flashing CM (or PAC) and gapps, with no reboots between.
