ok new guy here..well not that new i used the how to that toast made then did the various AmonRA-sp updates all the way up to fresh 3.0
heres the problem (so far):
1.market opens then immediately closes, though this isnt a force close...?idk?
2. my contacts are there but they arent: people isnt working it force closes on me and i i cant recover any phone numbers through google or my sdcard backup.
well those are my problems, again im running the latest Fresh rom used Amon RA and did the apps2sd(the right way)
im really at a loss here fellas, i dont know what to do but im not gonna do anything until i can get some insight into this debacle.
thanks in advance
easy answer.... do it all again
or
dont use fresh
use Evio 1.1 or 1.2
i have tried most of the popular roms and this is by far the best, including the best battery life, stability, compatability, etc.
screw the havs and crap.. i tried those and got the worst battery life EVER from those. 6 hours tops... Evio i can go 2-3 times that, true... i get far farrr better battery life out of a pseudo stock rom than i do all the custom "stuff"
just flash with another rom... fresh is unique in itself and doesnt always play nice with certain other add-on's (from what i have read)
that is why in other threads you see custom builds for people using "fresh roms"
why mess with something that is so unique it requires its own builds for certain things.
so do i have to do apps2sd again
Just wipe your cache and davlick cache
have you tried wiping your cache & dalvik-cache and flashing gapps?
no not yet....gapps? where can i find that...forgive me i dont use forums ever lol
okay tried wiping both caches....same results.
how do i flash gapps? i searched the forums and all i get is the Fresh 3.xxx thread titled GApps and no source on the file itself.
OP of CM6. Just flash from recovery. You shouldn't need to wipe anything. But if you're gonna, just cache and dalvik.

No, there's a separate download for gapps. Sorry, I could've been more specific.

It's in the CM6 OP just below the rom download link. Should say something like gapps8172010.

Some more details would be spectacular, such as which apps you're trying to use that give you that error. Do any other root apps work? What method did you use to root? Do you have the 'super user' app installed on your phone? When you boot to the bootloader, does it show Ship S off or Ship S on? What method did you use to flash the rom? Did you do it manually in recovery, or did you use ROM Manager?
When I boot to recovery it shows s-on. I don't remember the exact app name but it was used to manage power and cpu usage to boost performance. I used unrevoked root method found on xda.

Okay, you should be S off, not S on. Since you have custom recovery installed, you need to download the unrevoked forever s off tool, and flash it in recovery. Then boot back to your bootloader, and be sure that you're S off. At that point, I'd boot back to recovery, do a full wipe (data/factory reset, cache, dalvik cache, and flash calkulin's format all.zip), then reflash your rom. See if it works after that.
Much appreciated friend. To be continued.

Not a problem. And if you are on the newest version of clockwork recovery, you may not be able to flash that Calkulin's Format all.zip. You may need to flash King's format all zip instead, which I will attatch for you. Just remember, that after you flash either of the Format all.zip's, you need to flash a new ROM before you boot up. Once you flash the Format all.zip, everything geti's wiped, and you won't be able to boot up.
So instead of calkulins use kingsmod? Now.I don't wipe again one I use kingsmod do I?

Correct, they both do the same thing, except king's is edify compatible, which makes it gingerbread and clockwork 3.0+ friendly.
Also...kings black titanium is my first flashed rom. I like it...but I don't want to miss out on something better. I am sure I will try other roms ...but in the meantime...any suggestions for performance and stability roms. I've seen screenshots of overclocked phones....the response of my current rom is great...but I am into full customization. Any ideas from those who know?

I recommend CM7. You just need to download and flash the latest gapps with it.
Someone wanna give the pros and cons of cm7? I have heard it plenty of times. Same type of thing right? I can flash cm7 straight from. Zip on my sd card?

http://goo-inside.me/gapps/latest/7/universal/ < gapps [google apps] you flash them in recovery after flashing a new gingerbread rom, its so that your market, gmail, ect installs and work. And CM7 offers a lot of customization, plenty of themes, ect. You can overclock your phone using setcpu or from settings > cyanogen mod settings > performance > cpu settings. The only real con is a few select apps don't have gingerbread support yet, like juice defender, I believe. And if you want to update your PRL, you have to flash a sense rom, update, flash back, but that's easy.
Okay so that zip file is the gapps for cm7 rom? Now is the cm7 fast and responsive and is it a gingerbread based rom? I've been doing this replying back and forth from my phone...havent done the research yet.

Okay now I am S-OFF. Thanks for the help guys...also...i was peeping in on mikifroyo 4.6, if i can get another lead on flashing roms...first data/factory reset, then wipe cache, then wipe dalvik, then i can flash new rom? Or do i need to flash a format all.zip first?
im running myns warm 2.2 i love sense i've been to cm7 and back a hundred times that with netarchy's 4.3.1 kernel is nice fast pretty decent battery life too but ya gotta give it day or so to see better life and lots of mods for myns too. id rather wait for gingerbread til someone other than cm to come out with one

Well backup the rom; make sure you have at least 500mb free space. Do a full wipe [factory/data, cache, dalvik cache], flash the new rom. Make sure you have more space, because the sense 2.1/3.0 can be big in backup size.
What happens when you try to flash another Rom?

I get stuck at the HTC evo 4g screen just stays white and wont boot I have wiped it numerous times and I get the same result never happend until I flashed the 1.2 stable I also did flash the vipermod and Google apps as well as available memory mod I found I had used that multiple times before as well
Wipe everything 3x, use Virus's CR super wipe after you manually wipe everything. Factory wipe, cache and delvik cache. That should clear everything out. Then flash a Rom. It sounds like something isn't getting wiped.

So because somethings not wiping properly that will give me an error telling me to view the recovery log and then prevent me from flashing different builds and making a nandroid backup I don't seem to see a link for the superwipe under virus I tried searching and i could not locate it is it on his website?

If I were you, I'd backup my SD Card, format it, repartition it, if you're using partitions, and then copy the essentials back over. Specifically, you're nandroid folder, then reflash your Recovery, which hopefully, is Amon Ra.
Then either try to reflash one of your nandroids, although if it was me, I'd just copy the ROM you want first, and then try to flash that, and it if goes well, try a nandroid you have saved.
I've had this happen twice and both times, reflashing recovery did the trick
Alright ill try thanks alot everyone I appreaciate your help ill get back to you guys hopefully with good news
Well so there's no way I could just wipe it with recovery and flash it over cause apparently I'm not the only one with this issue and somebody said it has to do with partitions of my SD card I'm trying to look into it deeper.

You don't have to partition it; first reflash your recovery via PC36IMG image, then copy your sdcard to a pc, format it, then copy the files back over, try to restore a backup, or reflash the rom.
New to XDA, first post ever. Has anyone tried the new Kingdom Sensless 3d release and if so can you tell me if youtube is working as well as 720p video recording? Tried to post this in the developer section under the proper thread but it wouldnt let me since im new. Would love to know overall thoughts on this release as well. Thank you!
Sent from my Incredible using XDA Premium App
I believe YouTube works with a workaround (wifi has to be on but not necessarily connected), but 720p isn't functional yet.
is my daily driver everything is working fine there is a lag on the 720 but the devs have explained that is do to the fact that they dont have the codes or something to build new kernels.. youtube works just fine... if you haven't try it yet just flash it... you wont regret it..
Sounds good. Thank you. And just to be sure, i boot into recovery, do a factory restore, wipe cache, then install the zip from sd card. Is that the proper method to install this or will that screw up my phone? Thanks again!

No you don't go back to stock before flashing, yes go to recovery do factory reset, then go to mounts and storage and wipe boot, system, data, cache go back under advanced & wipe dalvik. Now you can install your ROM

Thanks very much. Interestingly, when i go into recovery it brings me to a clockwork recovery screen where i cant do some of the things u mentioned. I only have the options to do a factory reset and wipe cash. Is that enough? Does it matter what order u do them in? I also noticed that in titanium backup there is an option to delete the dalvic from there. Is that ok to do?

Also, you can format system in the mounts and storage menu. The rom's install script should include this, but never hurts to be safe.
Hello Everyone,
I'm novice and received my SGSII last week. I was able to rooted with odin method. After reading review on this forum, i want to update my ROM to BeastMod 4.0 and kernel to Faux .006 but bit worried about the method.
Can someone who has above combination flash on their T-mobile SGSII phone can help me to correct steps.
My main concerns are:
1. When i flash BeastMod 4.0 ROM will it also flash synergy kernel? If yes, then how can i reflash only kernel because i want to use Faux .006 kernel.
2. If i do step#1, hoping it will wipe out all the default T-mobile factory apps, what is the best way to save all the apps and needed informations.
It might sound stupid questions but I wanted to be on safer side and dont want to crew my phone.
Thanks in advance.
Use titanium backup to backup apps+data. You can YouTube a tutorial or read around the forums here for a guide. Then boot into cwm and do a nandroid backup. Then you're ready to flash.
1. Wipe data, cache
2. Flash the ROM
3. Flash the kernel you want
4. Wipe dalvik cache, fix permissions
5. Reboot, let it sit for 10 mins
6. Reboot.
7. restore data+apps from titanium
There are better guides out there, this is more of a quick overview.

I always do the boot routine before flashing a new kernel. I think I remember reading that somewhere and ive done it ever since. Also when wiping in clockwork mod I like to format system to ensure a 100% clean flash. You could private message me if you have any questions!

I would recommend becoming very familiar with booting into cwm by the 3 button combo. This could be really important not bashing rom manager but I used to use it and when running into problems with my vibrant I found the. Button combo to boot recovery was a much better way and u also control everything u do that way ... just a heads up

I take a slightly "cleaner" approach to wiping, but similar. One thing that's missing is the "system" partition from your steps. Which is under the "Mounts and Storage" option.
I recommend wiping the "/system", "/cache" and "/data" partitions in there. (I always do each twice, to ensure full wipage)

Not really a true "backup", but it'll work.
Just hit "backup" and it'll tell you where it's going.

Before you wipe everything you use titanium to backup all your apps and data. it stores it all on your internal storage (by default I believe). After you flash the ROM, you use titanium which will auto detect the backup and allow you to restore everything.
Edit: the wipe doesn't delete the internal storage. At least when I wipe it doesn't. I'm still a noob at this stuff too

Just be sure to backup and it doesn't matter if you screw something up or not (and by backup I mean a backup in CWM as well as Titanium) I don't even bother with Titanium.
