Im getting

Im getting this error after attempting to install ptfmedic ec05 modem update from eb13 to ec05 that is said to work without having to odin. any suggestions?
Reading is fundemental
There is no EB13 to EC05 modem update yet, and the only one on his site specifically says it is for updating from the DI18 modem only...
Direct quotes from his site:
EC05 Modem Update (From DI18 ONLY)

and
Note: If you are on EB13 you will have to ODIN the EC05 modem. This ROM will ONLY update the DI18 modem to EC05.

Yea I have read that. And also came across the release of the script which is available to download from the bonsai website. Which says that you can use it instead of odin. Once loaded
the script specifically says its for eb13 .....
Well, regardless of what it may say, to update the modem.bin through CWM, it requires a modem_delta.bin to update from one specific modem version to another. These are only available when there is an update.zip released by Samsung/Sprint (DI18 to DK28, DI18 to EB13, DI18 to EC05, etc). This is why it is only currently possible to use that file you downloaded to upgrade from DI18 specifically.
Until an EB13 to EC05 'update.zip' becomes available, there will be no CWM flashable file to upgrade your modem from EB13 to EC05. That being said, hopefully there should be one in the near future... or you can just use Odin and flash the EC05 modem instead of waiting.

i found a zip thats supposed to downgrade/upgrade your modem to dI18. it doesnt work. can anybody figure out why. please and thank you. here is the zip
You can't downgrade your modem with a flash thru recovery. It must be done with Odin. You can upgrade in recovery flashes.

lol thanks...i kinda figured that. guess im stuck on dk28 til i get my laptop fixed
There are flashable .zips to upgrade from DK28 to EB13, then from EB13 to EC05.

Since DK28 wasn't an official update, there was no update.zip released to go from DK28 to EB13, thus there is no flashable .zip to update the modem either. In other words, he's stuck with having to use Odin.
I could've sworn that was the method I used....
I don't recall ever ODIN a modem other than DK28, but I must've.
i wish there was a zip that allowed dk28 to update to eb13. is there a way to make a update zip to go from dk28 to eb13?

Let me reiterate my earlier comment...
Since DK28 wasn't an official update, there was no update.zip released to go from DK28 to EB13, thus there is no flashable .zip to update the modem either.
To further explain, to use CWM to update the modem, it requires a modem_delta.bin which is only available from official update.zip files provided by Samsung/Sprint. Again, since there was no update.zip file to go from DK28 to EB13, there is no way to create a flashable zip file to update the modem. This is the reason you are stuck having to flash the full modem.bin or .tar file through Odin.
I flashed my Epic to EC05 using the official google zip, downloaded from google. The system About Phone shows the following:
FIrmware Version - 2.21
Baseband Version S700.0.5S.EC05
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
Build Number FROYO.EC05
Hardware Version D700.0.5
So clearly the updated worked, yet I continually get the standard OTA update notification for EC05. When I click restart and restall it reboots into CWM and then the signature verification fails. Anyone know how to fix this?
I would try flashing using Odin and the tar for EC05.
Pretty good Odin tutorial here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cW-PL7-T7_c&feature=feedf_more
EDIT
Ooops....looks like the tar is not available for stock EC05....in that case...odin back to eb13 and do OTA update to ec05.
EB13 stock tar can be found here:

Cool...didn't realize someone posted such a detailed thread on this. Definitely the one to use.
I managed to screw some things up a bit on my phone such that it wasn't booting. So I restored using CWM to a November 2011 backup.
After restoring from backup, using ODIN I flashed back to stock.
Now, when the phone tries to update from EG30 to EK02 the upgrade successfully goes through all the steps, but hangs up at the "Updating modem" phase. This is what I get (I changed yellow type to green because the yellow is too hard to read):
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
Verifying current system...
Updating modem...
script aborted (no error message)E:Error in /cache/182a027df63.SPH-D710_update_EG30_to_EK02.zip (Status 7)
Installation aborted.
I get a similar result (slightly different file reference in red) if I try to do the update manually.
Since it's hanging at the modem phase, I'm wondering if somehow the modem was updated earlier (I had updated to the latest February release before restoring) in such a way that it now causes the update to hang.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Why not download the el29 odin file for the rom an modem an start fresh by odin both

Are you sure you still have the EG30 modem? CWM backups don't include the modem so they wouldn't get restored. This coupled with the EG30 -> EK02 OTA update having a "patch" modem update from EG30 to EK02, means your existing modem must be EG30 or the modem patch will fail.
No, I assume I don't still have the EG30 modem (driver or whatever it is called, obviously the physical modem is the same.)
Is there anyway to downgrade the modem back to EG30 so the updates can run?

Do what gr33nd3vil said, just flash a full EL29 tar with odin and be done with it.

Just pick whichever version you want to be on and use the appropriate ODIN One-Click thread in my signature.
You can also flash the EG30 modem, but you need to be using a kernel+CWM that is EK02 or newer because the older kernels are unable to flash full modems, only patch modems. If you'd like to go this path, use the Auto Root sticky in dev (or in my sig) and root your phone (using Option A), then install EK02+CWM (using Option C). Then download the EG30 CWM MDM link and use CWM to flash it.
I used your 1-Click - scarily efficient. Didn't even have to fire up my copy of Odin, yow!

I have flashed to ShadowKernel for EI22 and just recently recieved the OTA update for EL30 its rebooted and crashed in the process.
I am just curious if I wanted to update to EL30 will I need to flash my phone back to stock or is there another process I can take in updating?

You will need to Odin the el30 tar.

no, you won't have to re-odin, there is a tar file for el30 by toadlife

Does it matter if I used CWM instead to flash ShadowKernel will I have to install Odin and do this instead.

I was running ACS SFR 1.2 for the longest time (about a year I think), and yesterday finally decided to update to CM9. I didn't realize it wouldn't update my baseband at the same time (previous roms always did).
I do have CWM 5.0.2.7 installed, and also have successfully used the multiboot FC09 to update my profile and PRL, however, I realized my baseband in CM9 is still EG22.
Is there a way to update the baseband without having to use Odin and losing my CM9 setup? I guess it's not a huge deal to re-set up everything... but I'm a little pissed that Mybackup root wouldn't let me restore my stuff from the backup I made before updating.... so I had to re-install everything from scratch.
I did see a reference to uprgrade.zip, usable from CWM9, but it seems like you had to be on EL30 or something 1st (diff patch?).
Why not just odin the modem (not a full tar, just the modem itself)? It won't touch the rest of your setup.
Yes use odin to flash just the modem you won't touch your rom setup. Search youtube for qbking77 and find his how to video on updating modems. Takes maybe 4 min.

Ok, I was just confused because everything said I'd have to repartition if I used Odin.
Just leary because the last time I Odin'd I damn near bricked my phone...
Anyway... grabbed the FC09 modem.bin, Odin 1.85, Samsung drivers, installed everything on my work PC...
Powered down phone, plugged in... let windows auto update the drivers for the ports ... Booted into download mode (1 + power). Once the com port showed up, I put the modem.bin in the phone slot of Odin ... hit start ... about a minute later... phone rebooted and I now have FC09
Thanks!
Only very few ROMs that did a very specific check could update modems. This was done by using the delta modem provided in the update zip. So you HAD to be on EB13 modem to have the ROM update you to EC05 and that was the only situation supported. There is no way to flash a full modem.bin on the Epic without Heimdall or Odin. There are flashable deltas from EI22 to EL30 and another from EL30 to FC09 but you will need to flash them with the BML CWM temp boot from sd card.

To OP: Below is a download link for all modems from EC05 to FC09, including deltas. Each phone performs differently depending on modem version, so try them out and see which one works best for you.
