Well it does stop... but it keeps returning... halp!
Under the Talk app I have it set up to not start automatically.
I open Settings>Apps>running services and turn it off from there.
Gtalk will not appear again until someone calls me, after wards it has returned. According to running services, even after I stop the program, and when it returns, the timer is still running as if the phone never stopped it.
I noticed this today when my battery is being drained more than usual. I used to get about 3-5% battery loss per hour, but now i'm getting 10-15% per hour.
Since this happened today I figured it might have to do with something I installed from the market. I'm running fresh 1.0.1, launcher pro.
Apps I downloaded in the last 30 hours:
flashlite plugin (I have no idea what this is and it installed 1.5 hours ago)
digital clock widget
launcherpro plus
Qik
handcent SMS
overclock widget
XDA
Craigsnotifications
Any ideas? Anyone getting the same symptoms?
I am having this issue since OTA. On the first version I only saw talk show up if I rebooted. With the OTA it is always coming back and I do not think it is related to an app or to calls. Because I have randomly picked up phone in last couple days and looked.
I just got a replacement Evo today...with OTA...they put it on when setting up...and it has been doing it all day.
This is something that has definitly changed since the over the air update.

I'm sorry to hear that this is happening to someone else.
I uninstalled QIK, and craigsnotifications. I just got a call and GTalkService is back like a pimp looking for his money..

On a side note... this only happened today, and I've been running this version of fresh now for almost a week... so I can only think it has to do with something that changed in the last 30 or so hours.
Issue is still happening and switched over to damage control. Any ideas?

Is anyone else getting mystery vibrations? I keep getting vibes when I have no change in network, no new messages or emails, no new reminders or missed appointments. Sometimes it is a brief buzz and sometimes it just won't stop unless I wake the phone up.
I've also turned off vibrate alerts in settings > sound. This is driving me nutzo... last night it started vibrating and I let it go to see if it would stop. 2 minutes later it was still going.
It isn't just with one ROM either... It happened with the "Lite Leak" , Virtuous and Cyano6 roms also but never before I went Froyo. Anyone else getting similar vibes?
Don't mean to sound like a jerk, but are you sure it's really vibrating?
Lot's of people think they feel phantom vibrations.....
Google it, it's kinda funny reading

No, it is really vibrating...it woke me up rattling on my surf board the other night. Since I posted this is went off at 1:50 (short) then every half hour 2:20, 2:50, 3:20, 3:50 with the long vibrations where it WILL NOT stop unless I wake the phone up.
I think it is due to a problem with my contacts. When I saw the schedule on which it was happening I figured it must be a sync issue... Sure enough, "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." Bull crap!
So far I've backed up my contacts from gmail, deleted the contacts. Cleared them out of my contacts app data, reimported them into gmail and allowed a successful sync. Great, I thought...then a half hour later BZZZZZZZ
OK, next shot. manually edited my google.csv to clear any formatting under the NOTES column that said
!----HTC DO NOT EDIT ---
as this was only on people who I once associated with Facebook, and I am no longer subscribed to facebook and reimported, cleared Contact Data and resynced...So far, so good... But I am not so sure it will last longer than an hour.
Looks like killing the farce book tags from my contacts fixed it. No problems syncing and....so far.... no annoying vibraa-a-a-a-ations!

Well I updated last week and now I notice I lose the keyboard while texting a lot now. This gets very frustrating. Also when I had bluetooth running I couldnt send a pic in a text message, seemed weird to me, anybody else getting these problems or is it just me.
Don't know about the bluetooth, but the disappearing keyboard issue is common and Microsoft is looking into it. People are saying it might have something to do with the background agents running and that it goes away if you disable them all.

The keyboard disapearing bug is not related to 7740, its a bug that popped up with Mango, still to be fixed.
My BT is always on, and I have no issues with sending pics in messages.
I noticed after the update that it happened a lot more than before the update. IDK it might have been something wrong with my phone at the time restarting it helped. I actually had to do a battery pull last night because my phone would power back on after it was just on. I havent had to do a battery pull since upgrading to Mango.
Happens to me frequently enough. Sometimes like 4 times in a row very quickly.
Yes, my keyboard is disappearing ever more than 7720, It's very annoying...
Thank god i didnt upgrade.. i think i will skip this upgrade at all..
I think I'm going to go back to the previous update. My keyboard has disappeared 3 times while typing this. Come on windows

Hello,
Just got a new PixelXL and am having issues with notifications from the gmail app. During the day, the alerts seem fine. But during the middle of the night, they are hit and miss. I need them to wake me up for emergency alerts, and I'm finding that at some hours they go off without issue, but other times they don't.
For example, this morning it went off at 4am with no issue. At 8am I woke up, looked at my phone and had 0 alerts. However, after waking my screen and then shutting it off, I suddenly got alerts. I had missed 6 alerts between 6:45am and 7:45am, that never pushed in to my phone at all.
I've been searching for answers and found info about battery optimization, however my phone is set to not use battery optimization so that is not the issue. Does anybody else have any suggestions?
@prodiac,
Welcome to the Pixel/Nexus world. I'm sorry to tell you that this has been an ongoing issue on Nexus 6, 5X, 6P, and now the Pixel and XL for at least two years. Google used to have a help thread on it, but they closed it early this year as "solved", even though it's clearly not. There are some things folks do, like disable battery optimization for gmail, but realistically I can tell you that doesn't really help. FWIW, there's no known solution....
Are these from specific sender's? Set up a Gmail rule to forward it to one of the free email to text services and text them to yourself.

FWIW, when my device(s) start delayed notifications, it doesn't matter who the sender is. My Nexus 6 did it (sporadically) for 2 years and now my Pixel XL does it, too. As the OP noted, it's usually later in the afternoon/early evening....

I can't even get XDA notifications consistently lol. If you quote this message and reply back to me I'll probably get the Gmail notification sometime in the first hour and the XDA app notification anywhere within 10 min to 3 hours haha. All apps have battery optimization off. Such a joke

Yes!! Same here. Sometimes they get lost in space I guess. So annoying. Anyways.. I got the Gmail notification from your reply at 3:40 EST. Still no XDA notification though.
I know there is a notification issue with almost every app but I'm curious if the issue is half the fault of android and half the fault of the XDA app. I've been having lots of issues with it on the Pixel that I never had even once on my GS5.
For example for the past 2 nights I've been having conversations in 2 or 3 threads with people where we were posting responses maybe once every 5 min. So pretty much a non stop conversation. I kept having this issue where I would post my reply and get the message saying it was posted but yet I didn't see it in the thread. I'd refresh and it still wasn't there. I'd close the app. Still not there. If I logged into the website via chrome it was there right away. This has happened ever day since I've had the phone. I've obv cleared cache/data for the app which did nothing. I've uninstalled and reinstalled. Also did flashed factory image 3 times and set up as new for other reasons but even that didn't correct the issues with this app. Other random things happened to. I was trying to post 2 pictures last night. It only showed one of them. I went back to edit the post and it showed the filenames of both but I couldn't remove them. Logged into the website in chrome and remade the post. So pretty much there are just random VERY annoying issues with this app and this phone.
Is this an Android issue with all phones (Samsung, HTC, etc) or just Pixel/Nexus phones? I have the same issue with notifications.

Looks like it's happening on other phones too. In the link posted above, I saw Galaxy S5 and HTC One M9 listed.
Happened on my 5X, returned that and got a 6P and it happened on that as well. I had to use Nine for my work email it was so bad. So now it randomly happens work my hotmail and gmail addresses in the Gmail app, it's really unbelievable.
The delay in syncing has been irrational for me, but appears to be based on how long since the phone was last used.
I am trying out a different mail app, BlueMail [Play Store][Free], to see if that syncs quicker.

This is why I think it has to do with "Doze" or whatever the deep sleep is in 7.1.1. But what is odd is that its beeing noted on 6.x devices as well and I never had an issue there. Might have to switch to my N6 and test it out.

FWIW: Same symptoms on my N6 as well. And I agree with you, it does feel like it might be related to Doze...

With my phone sitting idle for over thirty minutes, I sent myself an email to the account on my Pixel from another account.
Bluemail notified me immediately, Gmail app never did, despite saying it last synced three minutes later.

You're right!
I tried Bluemail and it does appear to be working better for notifications. Thanks.
My Type/Blue mail email app gets laggy with the notifications when my phone has been off more than a couple hours.
It was all good with Lollipop.
Then got laggy with Marshmallow and continues with Nougat.
Been like this on a few different phones.
Ever since that stupid Doze was implemented, or whatever it's called that comes with Android to sleep apps.
And yes, I do remove it from Battery Optimization.
I have like five different email vendors (yahoo, google, etc).
Never bothered to see if it was happening with all or just one of them.
I just know I'd wake up in the AM.
See no new messages.
Then pick up my phone and five minutes later I get a bunch of new message notifications.
Since I'm sleeping, it hasn't been a huge enough issue for me to investigate.
But I will say that I miss the non-doze with Lollipop + Greenify.
Then again, I get stupendous battery life nowadays.

I've seen the same thing on several phones for the past year or more. I've noticed it on gmail, inbox and hangouts. I think it's the low power state the system gets in after a while, like at night as you said. When deep sleep gets to 96-97%, the phone is next to powered off, hence the good battery life. Only a guess though. I would still like to be notified, that's why I have notifications on. Maybe a kernel tweak to keep the phone out of deep sleep would help, but would hit the battery life. Maybe a very low minimum cpu setting would help. Like you said, it's not that big of a deal for me. Most of my family uses hangouts so I was more concerned about missing messages than emails but most of them come as they should. Nothing's perfect, I'm pretty happy with android and the pixel and the folks here that share what they know with everyone.
To be honest it's a complete joke that there is such a big issues with this and they can't figure out simple notifications. I've never had even the slightest issue like this on any of my past phones. The worst part is that it's not even consistent and there is no pattern to when they come. Just completely random.
I haven't seen anyone else post about this or maybe I didn't search correctly.
I'm on beta 5 using messages beta and when holding the icon to select a recent conversation the only time it opens directly is if the app is running in the background with that specific person being the conversation open. If I select someone after the app has been closed out or a different person it goes to the default list of chats, then severely lags about a full 5 seconds and then opens the conversation.
I've tried uninstalling updates and updating again. Also clearing the app cache and storage. Nothing works. Curious to know if this is affecting anyone else and if there's a fix. Thanks.
Yep, looks like you found a bug! This happens to me too on beta 5, and I'm not even in the Android Messages beta.
To clarify, I do not have the issue where my Messages app needs to be running in the background - for me, it always opens when tapping a long-press conversation shortcut, however, it just opens to the main Messages screen and then either never loads the selected conversation or lags horribly and then opens the selected conversation after about 5-10 seconds.

Glad I'm not the only one then. Yeah I tried the normal and beta. Even went back to the official version of the app.
It also really doesn't like to connect to chat features. I've jumped between Google fi and Verizon and they both never turn on or it takes days.
Mine seems to load fine whether the app is running or not. Takes more or less the same amount of time to launch a conversation either way. I am in the Q beta and Messages beta (got an update yesterday) version 4.7.053 Kraken.
