Ok so I am coming from an incredible and there are a few roms out there that even though they are sense based seem way faster then any rom on the evo. Anybody know the reason for this and also what is the fastest rom to date that is 100% working such as 4g and hdmi work?
Most roms that run sense will be damn fast but so will cyanogen mod because its so well made. Kernels make a world of difference on each phone so try a rom you like then flash some different kernels. As always, make NAND backups often, and

Thats a nice rom and can be killer fast with some good kernels.
Does 4g work with this rom, and where would you suggest I start with Kernels, I see that rom has an undervolt option as well so I assume that would be taken away if I flashed a kernel on top of it or am I wrong because its a script? I can research that for sure but if you have a quick answer then I was hoping you could share it with me or let me know of a kernel that works well for you.
Thanks in advance!
Try MikFroyo 4.3...fastest Sense rom I have ever used (possibly the fastest rom ever for EVO). Also, everything is fully functional.
Test it with the kernel that comes packaged (HTC #15) and if you don't like it, then can try some other kernels.

Yea I just like the idea of running Calkulin's roms because he know so much about these phones. I'm convinced that he has some secret in his rom. But yes http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883026 is a brilliantly fast rom. I can't say much for kernels because I haven't changed any yet but he has optimized just about the entire system to make for a really fast rom. I can see this rom with a good kernel putting down a really nice benchmark. I am running stock kernel and it is running a slightly faster benchmark than a stock evo. Here's my benchmark running this rom posted above.
I was thinking the same thing...I've flashed Fresh ROMs before and I liked the speed but I wanted to try another ROM...Maybe someone should make a thread with a poll and people can post likes and dislikes about each ROM...It can be like a feedback thread for ROM developers as well.
I'm loving the speed of Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS 5, using the stock HTC #15 kernel.
Yea im actually messing with kernels right now and with a little overclocking I can casually outperform the nexus. I was a mynion for a long time and I remember putting a kernel on the phone that was unbelievably fast. Both are great sense roms with this one being a little quicker and lightweight, and myns being prettier Attached are 1 screen of no overclocking then two overclockings. Interstingly enough, the 1349 score was with 1.2something frequency, and the 1484 was with 1.19ghz
Alrighty so I have a friend coming over this weekend with her EVO 4G and I will be doing some level of hacking to it. I want to give her options of ROMS & kernels so can I get some feedback on the best custom Sense ROMS as well as ASOP ROMS plus what the best kernel options are.
As far as I know she has a stock battery so whatever kernel that will give her the best battery life/performance would be great
I might as well say it because this is the reply you're going to get. You should just read threads and try them out until you find one you like. There is no best because many of them are designed to do different things. Only you can choose which functions are most important to you and which Rom matches those functions.
Tough question to ask because it weighs heavily on user preference. My personal favorite rom is Myn's WarmTwoPointTwo RLS5 using SBC trickel charge kernel. I get fantastic battery life and the rom is as smooth as butter. This is a Sense based rom without all the bloatware that Sprint puts on it. As far as AOSP roms alot of people like CM6 or the CM7 nightlies. I have only tried CM6 and its pretty sexy also but I prefer Myns rom a bit more. Check out Myn and CM6 or CM7 those should be good starting points.
we're just trying to keep the development section clear. i understand this is the most popular section and it's where all the cool and exciting things happen.. but there is an appropriate section for questions and answers, it's called Q&A. there's more people in there willing to help you answer any all questions you have.
that said, don't be surprised is mods come along and move this to Q&A (already would be if I was a mod). so please, I mean this will respect, post in the appropriate sections from now on.

I've been eyeing Myn's ROM for my wife's DInc too but she's not as open to me hacking her phone all the time so I may consider that one.
I put a modified version of CM based on Froyo onto my brother-in-law's Eris which worked pretty well too despite that phones lack of horsepower.
Thanks for the recs
well you know, maybe if you read the rules?

honestly, you're lucky I came along first.. most people would have flamed you to hell and back. we just like to keep order here to keep a decent noise/information ratio. development threads in development section and question threads in q&a section. it's been this way for me ever since i've joined
As was stated "this lies alot on how each person uses their phone". Me personally prefer the Mikfroyo 4.5 with a Netarchy kernal. You can see what I am using in my signature. Rom is very quick and smooth and battery life is great for me.

Agreed on the noise/information ratio. Instead of most of the responses being the typical troll response, they could've either just ignored the thread or sent a request to a mod to have it moved.
But whatever...I do appreciate any responses in general (except the "well maybe you shouldn't root it then" response)

The problem with the evo's is that they are all soo differently and react so much differently to every rom and kernel respectively. For my MIkfroyo and netarchy's gave me great performance and battery life. the same set up on my friends phone halved his battery life. my top choices are Mik, EVIO, and King's.. they get along best with my phone... as for kernel that is high phone specific, do you want SBC, etc..

Mikfroyo and Netarchy rock my EVO world.
I think I will start a new thread in this sub-forum asking everyone which apps they can't live without.

Well yea I'm aware of that b/c I experienced something similar with the DInc b/c some kernels didn't work as well as others (but did for others.) I know that I *may* have to try different kernels (which I know is easy to change) but with ROMs getting different recommendations does help weed out those that are either junk or dead roms...and ultimately makes my choices easier.
i would download several of the newer roms and try them all my fav right nnow is CM7-GX4 is a nice gingerbread rom but it just depends on your personal taste and needs
also depends on if you want sense or AOSP
I would just show a few screen shots and of MikFroyo, Myn, Ava, EViO, and maybe Koni's Elite. All of those are stable and similar in performance if she's not a really heavy user. I personlly have had the best results/experience with Mik and EViO. For Kernels, try a couple and see which works with her phone (more havs, les havs, no havs, or whatever). I would start with net's latest stable CFS, and go from there if it doesn't play well with her phone.
If she lives in a 4g area or uses HDMI, I would stay away from any AOSP ROMs, since none of them have it either, other than the CM wimax beta. IMO, it's a bad idea to put a beta ROM like that on someones phone if they don't know how to put it there themselves so they can remove it if need be.

Ive been doing some research into her options and since 4G is not possible at the moment with CM6, it is officially off the table...kinda bummed about that one
EViO is looking pretty promising as one option however I think Myn's might egg it out simply because of how clean the UI mods are. MikFroyo could be good but I'm not a fan of how just about everything has a gradient on it (that stuff is fugly imho.)
MIUI is looking pretty solid too but since it is a bit of change from the normal flow of Android, I'll have to let her decide based on the videos & then try installing it if she wants to really see it.
If you don't want all the extra stuff, you can try the earlier versions of Mik. 4.2 has a lot of the speed, but none of the theming. It looks a lot more stock.
Also, you can try AvaZ3. It uses a Mik base and is somewhat themed, but still looks clean, can't remember if it has a lot of the gradients you were talking about.
Azrael is also very stable and fast, but I don't think he's going to be updating it anymore. I guess that doesn't matter if she's not going to be changing ROMs often.
EViO is an excellent choice though, when I was on it, it was as fast or faster than most other ROMs while being underclocked. I was on v1.77 and had awesome battery life on the built in kernel. I think with the new version, in order to take advantage of all the features, you need to use Ziggy's latest kernel. I would use the CFS since BFS may or may not play nice with her phone. Also, if you flash EViO, make sure to flash the restore default buttons zip attached to the bottom of the first post or her search button won't work.
For Sense, I really like Calk's EViO 2 series. it is very clean not too many mods and kinks that could break stuff and also has a undervolt script that keeps the battery in check, he is a top Dev.
As for AOSP I dont use CM7 yet as it is still experimental but i recommend either CM6 and especially MIUI coupled with the new SavagedZen kernel, fast, smooth and stable.
Here's a question...besides CM6, what other ROMS have 4G compatibility issues?
Granted I know some phones may be react differently but do certain ROMs play nicer with certain kernels then others?
Give Myn Warm a try
I have been using Myn's WarmTwoPointTwo RLS5 for several weeks and find that it is fantastic. Stable, smooth, and sexy.
was running fresh 3.5.0.1 and now have flashed Mikfroyo 4.5 which is a heck of a lot faster, has more pizzazz with it. I am noticing worse battery life though. I have never had any expeience flashing any kind of kernels at all but from what I have read they control the power flow between the phone and the battery. What are some kernels I should try to get better battery life. The stock kernel is ok...Fast but drains faster then the stock kernel on fresh 3.5.0.1...I know this has been asked probably more than what is the best rom whether it's AOSP or sense but I need help. thanks in advance
You can only run sense kernels on sense roms and vice versa. I'd recommend one of netarchys sense kernels. If you want a good explanation of types or kernels and how they work this link is your best friend.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894880
This is my recommendation to use with mikfroyo and any other sense roms. Its the 4.3.4 netarchy CFS havs less sbc. You don't have to use it but I've experienced the best overall performance with this one. Not everyones phone will react the same with each kernel. You have to test different ones and find which one your phone likes. I usually test a kernel for about 2 days myself. You would flash a kernel the same way you do a rom.
The kernel I suggested.

Yeah that guide is pretty handy. Hope you find a good kernel. There isn't much dev'ing going for 2.2 froyo sense kernels as most of the devs are just waiting for the official 2.3 gingerbread sense to release. You wont find many different sense kernels floating around as you would for aosp roms but hit up that netarchy thread I was talking about and do some browsing!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=719763
I know that there was at least one post other for this, but I was wondering if some of you guys could give me a couple more (newer) rom and kernel recommendations or combinations. I have been reading threads in this forum for about a week or so now and there are so many different things that its almost overwhelming. I am fairly new to rooting (I rooted one phone prior to this) and am somewhat familiar with what roms and kernels I can use together, but a little advice/confirmation/recommendation never hurt anyone.
Basically, what I am looking for is something that is super responsive with a lot of internal space free for apps that I use (I would prefer not to have to use apps2sd). I would like to try to safely overclock the cpu (this is the first phone I have had the opportunity to overclock ). I NEED BATTERY! No, really, I need the battery to last at least 12 hours with some use (I work 12 hour shifts). It also needs have working Wi-Fi, 3G, 4G, and GPS (as I use all of them).
I've been thinking of trying Deck's rom with Tiamat kernel (not the sbc build correct? That's for extended batteries I believe) and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this setup. Any other setups anyone could recommend would be great to hear about too.
Currently, I am running Synergy RC1 but wanted to see what else is out there.
I really appreciate people taking the time to read this and post their thoughts. I'll eagerly be awaiting your responses. Thanks!
I too would like some recommendations. My buddy just got an EVO and he wants me to root it for him and flash a custom ROM. I am a thunderbolt guy so I am not familiar with the current ROMS for the EVO. What are your recommendations for a sense ROM? Any sense 3.0 ROMS?
You can't go wrong with anything from Myn or Mik. I justed recently flashed EVOlvedAndroid's Director's Cut and it works pretty nicely. Fresh ROMs are okay too but I almost always find my back to a rom by Myn or Mik.
You might get a "you can search threads and see what sounds good to you" response.
or a "each ROM will work differently for different people on different phones. same with kernel combos."
you might even get a link to the Wiki.
If you want an AOSP Rom:
I can say that I am running Deck's latest with the kernel it comes with and it's doing just fine. I might use kernel manager to pick out a new kernel.
I like the latest Tiamat and Godmode kernel with cm7, but I for some reason was having problems with my GPS off and on with cm7. No problems with Deck yet.
If I decide to go with a Sense ROM, I'll try out MikG and use kernel manager if the one it comes with doesn't cut it.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I did search out a lot of these roms and kernels. I also understand that a lot of this is trial and error as well. I was only inquiring as to what people liked/preferred and what has worked well for them. So far I have flashed a couple of different roms (Sense and AOSP) and a few tiamat kernels and have found each has its ups and downs (for me anyways). Right now I think I prefer AOSP to the sense roms out there. They seem much faster but I also haven't done any modding to the phone other then roms/kernels (still getting my feet under me). Any other recommendations anyone has would be much appreciated, along with any mods that may be useful. Thanks for taking the time to read this and posting responses.

Basically any AOSP (only ones I've used are cm7 and decks) with the tiamat kernel will get you sick battery life. Once there are custom kernels for the new sense roms they will get great battery life too but if battery is most important to you you can't go wrong with decks or cm7 + tiamat kernel.
i been using steelH rom since the upgrade to gb. i haven't had many problems with any of them. the latest version 1.07, i really like it.. the last few days i been running it pretty hard. i'm seeing a good increase in battery life. on top of that i took a lot of bloat out and added a few apps. it hasn't complained and the fone seems to like it.. it also has a pretty small footprint\install..
txt
asop: cm7 or deck ( i dont think ther are much more choices i like decks cuz its a little cleaner and i can always find a way to customize it enough for my own taste.)
Sense w/ froyo 2.2 ( love myn's and fresh for more customized looking roms have great battery and everything works. if you like stock go to sprint lovers 2.2 and you wont be let down it was my fall back rom that ALWAYS worked)
sense w/ gingerbread 2.3 ( havent used it sorry to many blah issues here and there especially since we got an os upgrade i think htc shorted us and should have given us some sense love too.)
Sense 2.1+ w/ gingerbread ( I am running virus's nightly of the kingdom revolution rom which gives you sense 3.0 (woot!!) and gingerbread together which runns pretty damn good i tryed the synergy/kingdom hybrid and it seemed to work pretty well but seeing this rom is pretty bulky compared to the roms made for evo apps2sd needs to work and i was having issues with that. so anything strictly kingdom or strictly 2.1 would be your best bet.)
hope this helps if you want me to elaborate i'll try to check back and see what i can say
Based on the majority of posts I've read, people seem to choose Synergy or Alliance.
My current ROM of choice is EVOlvedROM Directors Cut RC1.
It's very fast and good on battery life too.
The AOSP ROM of choice is Deck's 1.2.1
Enjoy

I'd have too agree that Deck's rom with the Tiamat kernel has been pretty epic for me so far. Its too bad that there aren't more AOSP roms to try. Deck's its great so far! The battery isn't as bad as I thought it would be overclocked either. Is anyone doing any tweaking of their clockspeed? Do you even need to adjust the clockspeed with the screen off with the smartass governor? From what I've read it shouldn't be necessary. Sorry to slip in the questions, was just doing done reading today and was wondering if anyone had experience with this. Thx.

You cant change kernels on any sense based gingerbread rom. There are no custom gb kernels yet. Thats been the problem with sense gb roms lately...battery life kinda sucks

So I'm looking at putting a new ROM and kernel on my Evo. I've got Swagged Out Stock on it currently, but I'm not completely happy with it. I still want better battery life. And yes I run only 3G, Wifi/4G/Bluetooth/GPS turned off, the works. Battery life still sucks for me.
I find myself with a lot of choices here, though, and I'd just like some suggestions/opinions on the following ROMs. It's quite a chore to me having to switch ROMs and recustomize my phone each time.
Fresh Evo 4.2 (and the Fresh Toast kernel to go along with it)
CM7
EViO Series 3
Elite Series 3
MikG
Which ROM do you like and why?
Also, I have a question on the Freedom kernel. I might try it out, but there are different versions of it, Stock, More, Aggressive, etc. I looked around on the website and I can't find anything on the differences between each version. I get the gist by the name, but I want to know the actual differences. Can anyone help me out with that?
King bliss beta v7 with chopsuey kernal.I have not had any lag what so ever very smooth and fast.
Sent from my amazing Evo on king bliss beta v7
Used mikg with more freedom for while then switched to bliss
Sent from my amazing Evo on king bliss beta v7
Freedom Kernel: the names relate to the degree that they are undervolted. Stock is volted like the stock HTC kernel. Less is undervolted -75mv. More, undervolted -125mv. Aggressive, undervolted -175mv. Good thread to read about kernels here. Do not overclock when undervolted. Besides, overclocking is overrated. Underclocking your phone saves battery.
The ROMs you named are somewhat older, except for MikG and CM7.
MikG is sorta more recent, but it is at its "stable" point and shouldn't really receive any more updates.
CM7 is a work-in-progress. It is a never-ending process, but it is stable for Evo 4G. Always adding new stuff. It works very well, but some people say it is sorta bloated. Popular alternatives are Deck's AOSP and SalvageMod 1.4
EViO, Fresh and Elite are based on stock Evo 4G HTC Sense 1.0 stuff. EViO and Fresh are not really themed, only a few tweaks and few visual modifications. Elite is themed heavily (it is still Froyo-based).
They are all good ROMs. If you want heavily themed Elite, pair it with Netarchy-toastmod kernel. If you want a Gingerbread ROM, I suggest Poon or ChopSuey kernel.
Read my signature for suggestions.
Always read the OP and through comments. For example, Runnymede. You have to mount data in recovery before flashing a custom kernel.
