[Q] Suggestions on New ROM and Kernel - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I'm looking at putting a new ROM and kernel on my Evo. I've got Swagged Out Stock on it currently, but I'm not completely happy with it. I still want better battery life. And yes I run only 3G, Wifi/4G/Bluetooth/GPS turned off, the works. Battery life still sucks for me.
I find myself with a lot of choices here, though, and I'd just like some suggestions/opinions on the following ROMs. It's quite a chore to me having to switch ROMs and recustomize my phone each time.
Fresh Evo 4.2 (and the Fresh Toast kernel to go along with it)
CM7
EViO Series 3
Elite Series 3
MikG
Which ROM do you like and why?
Also, I have a question on the Freedom kernel. I might try it out, but there are different versions of it, Stock, More, Aggressive, etc. I looked around on the website and I can't find anything on the differences between each version. I get the gist by the name, but I want to know the actual differences. Can anyone help me out with that?

King bliss beta v7 with chopsuey kernal.I have not had any lag what so ever very smooth and fast.
Sent from my amazing Evo on king bliss beta v7

Used mikg with more freedom for while then switched to bliss
Sent from my amazing Evo on king bliss beta v7

Freedom Kernel: the names relate to the degree that they are undervolted. Stock is volted like the stock HTC kernel. Less is undervolted -75mv. More, undervolted -125mv. Aggressive, undervolted -175mv. Good thread to read about kernels here. Do not overclock when undervolted. Besides, overclocking is overrated. Underclocking your phone saves battery.
The ROMs you named are somewhat older, except for MikG and CM7.
MikG is sorta more recent, but it is at its "stable" point and shouldn't really receive any more updates.
CM7 is a work-in-progress. It is a never-ending process, but it is stable for Evo 4G. Always adding new stuff. It works very well, but some people say it is sorta bloated. Popular alternatives are Deck's AOSP and SalvageMod 1.4
EViO, Fresh and Elite are based on stock Evo 4G HTC Sense 1.0 stuff. EViO and Fresh are not really themed, only a few tweaks and few visual modifications. Elite is themed heavily (it is still Froyo-based).
They are all good ROMs. If you want heavily themed Elite, pair it with Netarchy-toastmod kernel. If you want a Gingerbread ROM, I suggest Poon or ChopSuey kernel.
Read my signature for suggestions.
Always read the OP and through comments. For example, Runnymede. You have to mount data in recovery before flashing a custom kernel.

Best Custom ROMS & kernels?

Alrighty so I have a friend coming over this weekend with her EVO 4G and I will be doing some level of hacking to it. I want to give her options of ROMS & kernels so can I get some feedback on the best custom Sense ROMS as well as ASOP ROMS plus what the best kernel options are.
As far as I know she has a stock battery so whatever kernel that will give her the best battery life/performance would be great
I might as well say it because this is the reply you're going to get. You should just read threads and try them out until you find one you like. There is no best because many of them are designed to do different things. Only you can choose which functions are most important to you and which Rom matches those functions.
Tough question to ask because it weighs heavily on user preference. My personal favorite rom is Myn's WarmTwoPointTwo RLS5 using SBC trickel charge kernel. I get fantastic battery life and the rom is as smooth as butter. This is a Sense based rom without all the bloatware that Sprint puts on it. As far as AOSP roms alot of people like CM6 or the CM7 nightlies. I have only tried CM6 and its pretty sexy also but I prefer Myns rom a bit more. Check out Myn and CM6 or CM7 those should be good starting points.
we're just trying to keep the development section clear. i understand this is the most popular section and it's where all the cool and exciting things happen.. but there is an appropriate section for questions and answers, it's called Q&A. there's more people in there willing to help you answer any all questions you have.
that said, don't be surprised is mods come along and move this to Q&A (already would be if I was a mod). so please, I mean this will respect, post in the appropriate sections from now on.

I've been eyeing Myn's ROM for my wife's DInc too but she's not as open to me hacking her phone all the time so I may consider that one.
I put a modified version of CM based on Froyo onto my brother-in-law's Eris which worked pretty well too despite that phones lack of horsepower.
Thanks for the recs
well you know, maybe if you read the rules?

Man talk about a difference in user communities...I never got this type of response in the DInc & DX sections when I posted the *exact* same question in the development sections.
But whatever...as long as the question get answered that is all I care about.

honestly, you're lucky I came along first.. most people would have flamed you to hell and back. we just like to keep order here to keep a decent noise/information ratio. development threads in development section and question threads in q&a section. it's been this way for me ever since i've joined
As was stated "this lies alot on how each person uses their phone". Me personally prefer the Mikfroyo 4.5 with a Netarchy kernal. You can see what I am using in my signature. Rom is very quick and smooth and battery life is great for me.

Agreed on the noise/information ratio. Instead of most of the responses being the typical troll response, they could've either just ignored the thread or sent a request to a mod to have it moved.
But whatever...I do appreciate any responses in general (except the "well maybe you shouldn't root it then" response)

The problem with the evo's is that they are all soo differently and react so much differently to every rom and kernel respectively. For my MIkfroyo and netarchy's gave me great performance and battery life. the same set up on my friends phone halved his battery life. my top choices are Mik, EVIO, and King's.. they get along best with my phone... as for kernel that is high phone specific, do you want SBC, etc..

Mikfroyo and Netarchy rock my EVO world.
I think I will start a new thread in this sub-forum asking everyone which apps they can't live without.

Well yea I'm aware of that b/c I experienced something similar with the DInc b/c some kernels didn't work as well as others (but did for others.) I know that I *may* have to try different kernels (which I know is easy to change) but with ROMs getting different recommendations does help weed out those that are either junk or dead roms...and ultimately makes my choices easier.
i would download several of the newer roms and try them all my fav right nnow is CM7-GX4 is a nice gingerbread rom but it just depends on your personal taste and needs
also depends on if you want sense or AOSP
I would just show a few screen shots and of MikFroyo, Myn, Ava, EViO, and maybe Koni's Elite. All of those are stable and similar in performance if she's not a really heavy user. I personlly have had the best results/experience with Mik and EViO. For Kernels, try a couple and see which works with her phone (more havs, les havs, no havs, or whatever). I would start with net's latest stable CFS, and go from there if it doesn't play well with her phone.
If she lives in a 4g area or uses HDMI, I would stay away from any AOSP ROMs, since none of them have it either, other than the CM wimax beta. IMO, it's a bad idea to put a beta ROM like that on someones phone if they don't know how to put it there themselves so they can remove it if need be.

Ive been doing some research into her options and since 4G is not possible at the moment with CM6, it is officially off the table...kinda bummed about that one
EViO is looking pretty promising as one option however I think Myn's might egg it out simply because of how clean the UI mods are. MikFroyo could be good but I'm not a fan of how just about everything has a gradient on it (that stuff is fugly imho.)
MIUI is looking pretty solid too but since it is a bit of change from the normal flow of Android, I'll have to let her decide based on the videos & then try installing it if she wants to really see it.
If you don't want all the extra stuff, you can try the earlier versions of Mik. 4.2 has a lot of the speed, but none of the theming. It looks a lot more stock.
Also, you can try AvaZ3. It uses a Mik base and is somewhat themed, but still looks clean, can't remember if it has a lot of the gradients you were talking about.
Azrael is also very stable and fast, but I don't think he's going to be updating it anymore. I guess that doesn't matter if she's not going to be changing ROMs often.
EViO is an excellent choice though, when I was on it, it was as fast or faster than most other ROMs while being underclocked. I was on v1.77 and had awesome battery life on the built in kernel. I think with the new version, in order to take advantage of all the features, you need to use Ziggy's latest kernel. I would use the CFS since BFS may or may not play nice with her phone. Also, if you flash EViO, make sure to flash the restore default buttons zip attached to the bottom of the first post or her search button won't work.
For Sense, I really like Calk's EViO 2 series. it is very clean not too many mods and kinks that could break stuff and also has a undervolt script that keeps the battery in check, he is a top Dev.
As for AOSP I dont use CM7 yet as it is still experimental but i recommend either CM6 and especially MIUI coupled with the new SavagedZen kernel, fast, smooth and stable.
Here's a question...besides CM6, what other ROMS have 4G compatibility issues?
Granted I know some phones may be react differently but do certain ROMs play nicer with certain kernels then others?
Give Myn Warm a try
I have been using Myn's WarmTwoPointTwo RLS5 for several weeks and find that it is fantastic. Stable, smooth, and sexy.

New Incredible Owner :) - Have some Questions

Hi,
I'm coming from owning a Droid Eris. I had it rooted and know a decent deal about ROMs, etc.
First, what is the best way to root the Dinc? I used the one-click app on the Eris.
And what ROM would you recommend? I'm looking for a stable and fast ROM that has Sense.
Thank You
One of the quickest, most stable and clean sense ROM's would be
- Sky Raider's 3.5:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=764787
An excellent Kernel that majorly helped improve my battery life
- Chad's Incredikernel :
http://chad0989.dyndns.org/2.6.32.27-incredikernel-12232010-plus25v.zip
You will need clockwork installed to create nandroid backups and also to flash new ROM's and Kernels, and additionally rooting your phone can be found below:
http://unrevoked.com/#inc
>> Everyone has their preference and I highly respect every developer on here, but there was just a few things in Lou's Kernel that bugged me.
I'm sure you will try a few ROM's before sticking with one, the above are just my suggestions. When running Chad's kernel, do not use setCPU or anything like it because it already has (a better) one built in that helps extend battery life with screen off, and performance/battery with screen on
Unrevoked.com to root.
IncRom for mostly stock sense ROM w/ some aesthetic touches - it's fast, stable, insane battery life.
IncrediblyReEngineered for a 'tricked out' very fast sense rom - stable and good battery life.
Thanks for the advice! That definitely helps.
I'm really liking the Incredibly Re-Engineered ROM because it seems fast, has Sense plus some tweaks and themes, and the dev does a good job updating it.
Just 2 questions:
1. It is based on the Evo framework. Is this okay? Is it still stable? I'm still kinda confused as to why I'd want to run a ROM built on the framework of another phone.
2. Is this ROM stable and pretty much bug free?
Thanks!!
Yup its perfectly fine. I also would recommend checking out the Redemptionrom and redemptive revolution rom. Both are very nice. There's so many good choices for the dinc.

Yes the EVO is very similar (in some cases identical) to the incredible.
Some say the EVO framework works better than stock, so that's why you see a couple of ROM's using it.
Go with Incubus's WarmZ......"F"ing AWESOME!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901822
Dinc Roms vs EVO/Z Roms
The differences are minimal, and in most cases never noticed. One thing that always bugged me about Incredible Re-Engineered along with other roms with the same framework (can't remember which it is) is that MMS/SMS doesn't work with wifi enabled. Which personally is a problem as my house has poor 3g connections. If your looking for a stable Rom with active community Virtuous, Sky Raider and Magnolia are all amazing Roms and communities with very responsive devs.
Incredibly Re-engineered is purely EVO framework. I'm a huge fan of Incredibly Re-engineered, specifically 2.3.1. Not so hot about 2.3.2. I had quirky problems with it. It comes with Lou's #8 which works flawlessly, but I've been most happy with the Hydra kernel that comes overclocked to 1.153GHz, and undervolted on lower voltages using an on-demand gov. I tried a number of ziggy's but the last stable release had dreadful wake-up speeds. I had stability issues with the Incredikernel.
I tried out Incredibly Re-engineered Z 1.01 and felt luke-warm about it. It's loaded with apps I had no want of and came with Chad's 12/23 which works well, can be overclocked easily, but isn't. When I applied any of the rock-solid Hydra Kernels to it, I.R Z took a dump in several ways in a huge hurry.
A big plus to me with straight Incredibly Re-engineered is the massive number of mods Chingy has for it. If your big on widgets, the 4x5 themes gives you 20% more desktop that you won't want to give up once you get used to it.

[Q] [SENSE ROM] What is your choice and why?

Just like the title says, what is your favorite/most used/fastest/best on battery SENSE ROM. I'm currently running CyanogenMod 7 Nightly # (insert number here) and have been running CM for a long time. I almost forget how stock sense looks like
Now I know most people will say "you got to just try them out and see what you like", but honestly there are LOTS of choices and doing the nandroid and restoring of apps and all that is annoying. I want the most complete package based on your experiences. Just naming off a ROM name doesn't help. Providing reasons would be great.
I WANTED to go with :
Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793471)
OR
MikFroyo (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883026)
OR maybe
MikZ (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=982211)
I believe MikFroyo is as stock as it gets with the original Sense while Warm TwoPointTwo and MikZ have the new Sense baked in. But MikZ has some features not working such as 4G and HDMI?
Somebody help me out! lol thanks in advance
I love mikfroyo v4.5 it just purly awesome. Personaly I love the speed probably the fastest sense rom I have used and I used alot including myns. And also the best battery I have used. So mik. All the way and also mikz. And its also very good
-{KiD}-
I'm using Myn's Warm Z right now and I absolutely love it. Speed, from what I can tell so far: good battery life, very fluid and very graphically gorgeous.
tried them all myself and i keep going back to Miks ! the speed of the rom is wicked and the dev is in for the long haul !
waiting on 4.6

Maybe I'll move it to my SD and flash it during class tomorrow to check it out.
Mik's is about the only Sense ROM I haven't used.
For best all around, King's Ultra. Fast, decent battery life, visually amazing.
Koni's is right with it, but the battery life was terrible. Still, a visual masterpiece.
Vaelpak has the most options and is very very customizable. It''s prett yfast, battery is pretty good, with the right kernel, and I would have stayed wit hit, but I ran RUU on my phone and just wanted to try something new.
Myn's WarmZ is pretty perfect. Doesn't have th CM-like customizations of VaelPak, but it's gorgeous, stable, fast. Everthing works, and battery os ok.
11 hrs off the charger last night, with not a whole lot of use, other than a lot of texting, and I went to bed with it at 79%.
Maybe I'll give Mik's a try, just so I can say I tried everything on the menu.
I like mikfroyo 4.5 fast, great battery life everything works. But I think you need to try them all for yourself and decide. What someone else likes you may not. And besides it's fun to flash and try new stuff, just try to stop, you'll see once you start it' s like lays potato chips.
mikfroyo... hands down the fastest rom ive ever used.
I'm in the same boat except I've been on MIUI since last fall. I downloaded Koni Elite with Mikfroyo 4.5 to try. I've used Vaelpak way back and liked it. Vaelek had since added.lots of features. My favorite is no longer being updated - I hate it when that happens but with all the new phones and OS, it's not surprising.
Evo HW 003
MIUI 1.3.5 with stock kernel
Honeycomb theme
Calks Evio roms are hands down the best I have used....and I have tried them all. Lightly visually modded and very fast and extremely stable.

+1 on Calk's EViO. Have tried most sense roms, but no roms can complete with the stability of EViO, battery life with undervolt, and mature (light) theme. The best one for my taste and performance needs.

That is with the new Sense (2.0?) that isnt available to stock EVO yet, correct? Is everything working on that ROM like 4G and HDMI? Nothing buggy? What is the base RUU that was used for that ROM? I hope it always starts with a EVO RUU and gets other **** baked in.
BTW for all the posters, I flashed MikFroYo last night and it is FAST. I want to try other stuff out tho. Give me more info!!!! Loving the responses so far.
Another vote for Calk's EViO 1.8. Smooooth as can be, fast and super stable. This is pretty much the only sense ROM I run on the very, very rare occasion that I am not on MIUI.
Calk's EViO 1.8 vs MikFroYo vs WarmTwoPointTwo
BATTLE ROYAL COMPARISON....lol
These three seem to be the top three that people have recommended (damn i shoulda done a vote)....but can people give me some comparisons. I come from CM7 nightlies so I am used to ****ty battery life. I currently have MikFroYo flashed and see it is fast. EViO is better on battery maybe? WarmTwoPointTwo has newer Sense?
After flashing and dozen or so, I finally stuck with elite series II.
I just can't pick one over the other, tbh...
Now I'm on King's Ultra II and by Friday, I'll probably had changed again.....
Calk's EViO 1.8. I've never ran Myn's Rom but I tried MikFroyo. They are both pretty snappy but I got better battery out of Calk's.

If you add Koni's to that threesome, I think you have four excellent sense ROMs to try. You might also check out this thread. It is a few weeks old now, but probably still relevant (if you buy into poll results.) If nothing else, you can cruise the posts and get some more info/ideas. And this one is a little more recent, but I think by that point people were over polls like this so not nearly as many responses.

Please Help Me Pick A Rom. PLEASE

I have a 003 Evo and have tried multiple roms in this order: Stock rooted, OMJ, Fresh, CM6, Destroyer which had the best battery life.
I am tired of flashing roms and having to flash all these fixes and everything still doesn't work. With OMJ and Fresh everything worked but the battery life was nothing compared to Magnus' Destroyer rom. I really liked it for the battery life but I couldn't get the Satellite GPS to work and I had black on black text boxes. I like aosp roms like cm7 mainly because I can customize them more but also because they seem to get much better battery life. I usually use launcher pro in all the roms I've used also. I want a rom that has everything working that gets great battery life that is fast and one that I can use for a long time. I'm tired of spending so much time trying to get my phone to work and last all day. I've read a lot on the forums and please don't criticize me for asking for this help. I know many people have already asked this question. So all in all I guess I want and aosp maybe cm7 but i need everything to work I'd like to do hdmi mirroring and be able to do any other mods and really need it to last all day. I first rom I get a full day out of was Destroyer but it had some bugs. Can anyone help me, am I missing something? Please Please Please help me find a rom that suites my needs.
Thank you very much and if someone can help me get this going I will make a donation to them. I also live in Palm Beach FL if anyone near by wants to help.
Thank you very very much in advance.
Dave
Sense: Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS-5 -- Everything works. Downgrade the PRI from 1.90 to 1.77
AOSP: SalvageMod 1.2.1 w/Tiamat 4.0.2 kernel and LauncherPro.
posting & replying via the XDA Premium app.
For Sense, I prefer Myn's RLS 5 or Calkulin's EViO 3, and also the MyTouch 4g port. Mostly, the MyTouch 4G because I don't care too much about Wimax.
For AOSP, I like either MIUI or Deck's ROM, with Tiamat 4.02. Battery lasts all day, 16 hours off the charger with moderate usage and I have at least 25% left.
Be sure to wipe battery stats and such between switching ROMs and kernels and such.
Try mine out...
Skyraider for evo 4g
Only thing that doesn't work is 4g because it was ported from the incredible which doesn't have 4g
Try out kings gb4 ultra beatdown or any kings gb with a tiamat kernel. 3.3.7 ws real nice for me. 18-24 hours on batery everything works. Fast smooth and reliable
Kings GB Destroyed EVO
try end of days with tiamat sbc kernel
first of all, all of the roms you tried are out of date.
quote form earlier post of mine:
ok, here goes.
first of all, yes this has been asked a thousand times per day, but people have fun answering them
sense roms are based off stock evo sprint software. if you like sense roms, you best choices will be:
myn's warm twopointtwo, for a smooth, themed, and slick stockish experiance, try this oldie but goodie.
mikfroyo, updated more often. optimized way over the top. i personally don't like the theme, and think if you want that speed go for aosp, but whatever. a bunch of people like it.
koni's elite. one of the newer good sense roms. good themeing. fast. optimized. everything else the other two have, just different...
aosp roms are based off stock google source code. they are not built for the evo (or until like 2 weeks ago, not built for sprint, cdma, or wimax) but have been ported exelently. these are much faster than sense, and about half the size. they have a different look, feel, and functionality though. they are based on gingerbread, not froyo like stock evo.
cm7 (cyanogenmod 7): simply the best. most other aosp roms based off of this. a gigantic project that spans across ~30 phones with ~24 official developers and many more unnoficially contributing to the open sourced code. fast, stable, WORKING 4G AND HDMI!!! (took monts to do those 2). everything works (except 720p video recording, but 480 is just as good). really, try this one first. nightlys are released every night, stables are not. you can see the very complicated changelog along with links here: http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=supersonic
miui: based (sorta i think) off cm7. very iphone-like rom. built to have the best of iphone and android, with some added goodies. i persoanlly don't like it, but many swear by it. sorta a you like it or you don't thing. 4g doesn't work.
deck's: another cm7 based rom. basically slimmed down cm7. idk why you'd need to slim something already half the size of sense down further, but some people claim unreal battery life. 4g and hdmi also work cuz it's based on cm7
savagedzen rom: NOT built from cm7 (yes, this is a bragging right), very stock gingerbread, with lots of kernel tweaks. not based on cm7, yet 4g and hdmi work.
salvagemod: even more stock gingerbread. 4g works. not hdmi.
ports: the name explains it all. 4g doens't work for these, except the rare exceptions. virus is the one who's ripping out port after port after port recently.
a sense hd port: mik and myn both have one of these. froyo with sense 2.1. no 4g.
virus gingersense: sense 2.1, gingerbread. no 4g, but the rest is working.
virus kingdom port: based on an unreleased, unrevealed device called the htc kingdom. 4G WORKS. still in deep beta. sense 3.0, and gingerbread. sense 3.0 is pretty crazy.
so yeah. i personally use cm7 with tiamat 4.0.2 kernel and a modnation theme (whichever we r testing). try as many as u like. if you like it, make a backup.
btw there is a gps fix.

Bump to the top. Still need some suggestions and help from experts. I really like aosp roms can't see any reason to use anything else as long as all the phone functions work. I've.tried the latest cm7, EOD, and I'm currently on destroyer v2 which was giving me good battery life, about a full day of moderate to heavy use, buy am having problems I can't seen to fix even after searching everywhere. I still have black on black text boxes which sucks, my wirerless tether and usb tether doesn't work and I'm having a few other problems.
I would really like to talk to some people on the phone about my problems and questions if some one with lots of experience wouldn't mind doing that I would be happy to make a donation.
Thanks very much,
Dave

"Thrown on my path of Destruction"
The black on black big is something that comes out if the themeing in the rom. Try latest cm7 with tiamat kernel. Should give you nice battery life. If you need more, undervolt as much as possible and underclock to 537.

Personally i prefer Warm Z TwoPointTwo - Yabba Dabba Doo x for sense
and kernal : netarchy-toastmod-4.3.4-cfs-nohavs-noUV-nosbc-universal-signed
= Very Smooth, Fast, Good Battery Life.
For ASOP , I Recommend Salvage Mod With Savaged-Zen 2.6.38.5 Kernel 2.1.0 CFS = googly eyes

[Q] Rom Recommendations...

I know that there was at least one post other for this, but I was wondering if some of you guys could give me a couple more (newer) rom and kernel recommendations or combinations. I have been reading threads in this forum for about a week or so now and there are so many different things that its almost overwhelming. I am fairly new to rooting (I rooted one phone prior to this) and am somewhat familiar with what roms and kernels I can use together, but a little advice/confirmation/recommendation never hurt anyone.
Basically, what I am looking for is something that is super responsive with a lot of internal space free for apps that I use (I would prefer not to have to use apps2sd). I would like to try to safely overclock the cpu (this is the first phone I have had the opportunity to overclock ). I NEED BATTERY! No, really, I need the battery to last at least 12 hours with some use (I work 12 hour shifts). It also needs have working Wi-Fi, 3G, 4G, and GPS (as I use all of them).
I've been thinking of trying Deck's rom with Tiamat kernel (not the sbc build correct? That's for extended batteries I believe) and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this setup. Any other setups anyone could recommend would be great to hear about too.
Currently, I am running Synergy RC1 but wanted to see what else is out there.
I really appreciate people taking the time to read this and post their thoughts. I'll eagerly be awaiting your responses. Thanks!
I too would like some recommendations. My buddy just got an EVO and he wants me to root it for him and flash a custom ROM. I am a thunderbolt guy so I am not familiar with the current ROMS for the EVO. What are your recommendations for a sense ROM? Any sense 3.0 ROMS?
You can't go wrong with anything from Myn or Mik. I justed recently flashed EVOlvedAndroid's Director's Cut and it works pretty nicely. Fresh ROMs are okay too but I almost always find my back to a rom by Myn or Mik.
You might get a "you can search threads and see what sounds good to you" response.
or a "each ROM will work differently for different people on different phones. same with kernel combos."
you might even get a link to the Wiki.
If you want an AOSP Rom:
I can say that I am running Deck's latest with the kernel it comes with and it's doing just fine. I might use kernel manager to pick out a new kernel.
I like the latest Tiamat and Godmode kernel with cm7, but I for some reason was having problems with my GPS off and on with cm7. No problems with Deck yet.
If I decide to go with a Sense ROM, I'll try out MikG and use kernel manager if the one it comes with doesn't cut it.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I did search out a lot of these roms and kernels. I also understand that a lot of this is trial and error as well. I was only inquiring as to what people liked/preferred and what has worked well for them. So far I have flashed a couple of different roms (Sense and AOSP) and a few tiamat kernels and have found each has its ups and downs (for me anyways). Right now I think I prefer AOSP to the sense roms out there. They seem much faster but I also haven't done any modding to the phone other then roms/kernels (still getting my feet under me). Any other recommendations anyone has would be much appreciated, along with any mods that may be useful. Thanks for taking the time to read this and posting responses.

Basically any AOSP (only ones I've used are cm7 and decks) with the tiamat kernel will get you sick battery life. Once there are custom kernels for the new sense roms they will get great battery life too but if battery is most important to you you can't go wrong with decks or cm7 + tiamat kernel.
i been using steelH rom since the upgrade to gb. i haven't had many problems with any of them. the latest version 1.07, i really like it.. the last few days i been running it pretty hard. i'm seeing a good increase in battery life. on top of that i took a lot of bloat out and added a few apps. it hasn't complained and the fone seems to like it.. it also has a pretty small footprint\install..
txt
asop: cm7 or deck ( i dont think ther are much more choices i like decks cuz its a little cleaner and i can always find a way to customize it enough for my own taste.)
Sense w/ froyo 2.2 ( love myn's and fresh for more customized looking roms have great battery and everything works. if you like stock go to sprint lovers 2.2 and you wont be let down it was my fall back rom that ALWAYS worked)
sense w/ gingerbread 2.3 ( havent used it sorry to many blah issues here and there especially since we got an os upgrade i think htc shorted us and should have given us some sense love too.)
Sense 2.1+ w/ gingerbread ( I am running virus's nightly of the kingdom revolution rom which gives you sense 3.0 (woot!!) and gingerbread together which runns pretty damn good i tryed the synergy/kingdom hybrid and it seemed to work pretty well but seeing this rom is pretty bulky compared to the roms made for evo apps2sd needs to work and i was having issues with that. so anything strictly kingdom or strictly 2.1 would be your best bet.)
hope this helps if you want me to elaborate i'll try to check back and see what i can say
Based on the majority of posts I've read, people seem to choose Synergy or Alliance.
My current ROM of choice is EVOlvedROM Directors Cut RC1.
It's very fast and good on battery life too.
The AOSP ROM of choice is Deck's 1.2.1
Enjoy

I'd have too agree that Deck's rom with the Tiamat kernel has been pretty epic for me so far. Its too bad that there aren't more AOSP roms to try. Deck's its great so far! The battery isn't as bad as I thought it would be overclocked either. Is anyone doing any tweaking of their clockspeed? Do you even need to adjust the clockspeed with the screen off with the smartass governor? From what I've read it shouldn't be necessary. Sorry to slip in the questions, was just doing done reading today and was wondering if anyone had experience with this. Thx.
Sent from my Evo 4g running Deck's Rom with Tiamat 4.0.6+ @1.157 ghz.
Vaelpak is another aosp rom

You cant change kernels on any sense based gingerbread rom. There are no custom gb kernels yet. Thats been the problem with sense gb roms lately...battery life kinda sucks
