Hi !
I hv just bought DEFY last week. When I open the box, there is a small sheet of paper claiming that DEFY is actually not waterproof. If interfaces eg USB cover is wide opened, then water will still go in and damage the phone...
Does anyone know anything about it? is DEFY really 'not waterproofed'?
Besides, how can I do zooming using the original camera app?
Sure, water will short-curcuit the ports if they're opened. You want to defy physics eh?
Zoom with volume keys.
how about if the ports are not opened? is it really waterproofed?
as a see the back cover seems to have a 'hole' under the cover lock:S
OH I am so surprised that the volume keys can be used to zoom! thanks so much!
Well it survived a lot of washes, beer and water drop tests so it's fine. Second mic hole can get a bit of water inside, but it won't go further and mic is protected like speaker.
Its "water resistant " not waterproof. Meaning it can with stand some water but not being submerged.

....Not true.. with the ports closed on a brand new defy you should pretty much be able to go swimming with it. Officially it can be submerged up to 1 meter but tests have shown a bit better.. I went swimming with my defy and took underwater videos.

Right on. Claiming to be water-proof is much different than water-resistant. If you've been in the industry of selling such stuff you'll know. It has legal implications so serious makers don't take it lightly.
That being said, many things sold as "only" water-resistant can actually withstand quite some splash.

And just in case you're all still doubtful, the Defy is certified as an IP67 device.
It would not get that certification if it doesn't actually do what they say it does.
What does IP67 mean?
The IP Code (or International Protection Rating, sometimes also interpreted as Ingress Protection Rating) consists of the letters IP followed by two digits and an optional letter. As defined in international standard IEC 60529, it classifies the degrees of protection provided against the intrusion of solid objects (including body parts like hands and fingers), dust, accidental contact, and water in electrical enclosures. The standard aims to provide users more detailed information than vague marketing terms such as waterproof.
Solids, first digit.
The first digit indicates the level of protection that the enclosure provides against access to hazardous parts (e.g., electrical conductors, moving parts) and the ingress of solid foreign objects.
6 - Dust tight - No ingress of dust; complete protection against contact
Liquids, second digit.
Protection of the equipment inside the enclosure against harmful ingress of water.
7 - Immersion up to 1 m - Ingress of water in harmful quantity shall not be possible when the enclosure is immersed in water under defined conditions of pressure and time (up to 1 m of submersion). Test duration: 30 minutes Immersion at depth of 1m.

I use my defy for free beer at bars, its great and people don't believe their eyes haha.
my brother dropped his in a pint when drunk just to show off and the screen was unresponsive for 2 days. My guess is if the covers arent secure over the usb and speaker port then the IP rating is out the window
Isn't that a given?
Would your waterproof watch still be waterproof if the back casing wasn't put back properly?
The covers on the Defy work the same way...

I think the key phrase here was "When Drunk" lol he probably didnt secure the ports like you said. The covers are also susceptible to wear and tear so after a while defy's probably just become regular mortal phones vulnerable to water.. well I suppose they'll still have the durable casing and gorilla glass though.
Also bear in mind that these ratings are probably for just water. Submersion in a detergent solution will probably be bad news, as would "cleaning" the seals with detergent. So don't drop it in the bath!
Beer is OK, as that is not an anti-surfactant

absolutely. but how long is this phone guaranteed at IP67. His ports were covered at the time so my guess would be that they have lost their ability to seal after so much use. The fact hes only had the phone 2 months does not say a lot about the rating.
Image a class 6 sd which meets class 10 standards under some conditions. But it's still a class 6 sd and there's no guarantee for class 10 speed.
Actually some crazy Chinese boiled Defy in hot water for several minutes and Defy survived. Good to know but don't expect Defy can stand anything like.

Ive spilt beer over my Defy and it survived.
What I have discovered is that any liquid spills/submersions result in either an unresponsive screen for a while, or the phone playing up ( ie notification bar going up and down rapidly)
In the case of Beer and other non pure water liquids ( such as soft drinks ) this seems to last longer. The solution to this is to rinse it in water.
The areas that seem to be affected are the small gap around the touch screen/chassis - in particular the small microphone opening, and of course the holes in the back of the phone, if you spill beer in these and let it dry it could leave a sticky residue.
As for water, a quick wipe and dry seem to do the trick, and after a minute or so everything works fine again.
I've read some were that the Defy is water resistant but it's not certified?
I wouldn't purposely get it wet just because it claims to be water resistant.

Motorola withdrew the IP67 claim before launch to avoid legal problems.
FTW?! You're absolutely right...
Wow Moto! You claim IP67 certification to build the hype and then reduce it to IP67 standards instead when launched? That's really low!

Hi, first of all I want to say that I am not bound in any way to Shield Skins Company, I decided to put this new theme after personally tested their products. Ryan Thank you. I Recive 4 full body kit Protection for my HTC Touch HD, and a doubling of many samples that I can use for testing and other devices.
Also, many of high quality thick microfiber towels for cleaning the entire device.
Many of you know about the existence of different companies that offer this type of protectors, also think it is normal to be made from the same material, talking about the same material used by the military of the United States. The difference in Shield Skins Protectors is the first cost of, for about $14 can buy total protection for your phone, and the second but not least is the cut. Tread are perfectly cut and perfectly fit your phone model. I personally put on my two HTC Touch HD kit includes tailgate protector separately for the camera, rear heel, front bottom, the entire display, the upper front and 2 side moldings parts of the phone, everything is cut so that not only currently covered part of my unit is the eyelet for the microphone, jacks for charging, headphone jack, the volume button and stylus. Everything else is completely 100% protected. Putting these protectors, Honest speaking was not as easy as I expected because HTC Touch HD has many fine places but be wary if the result is a person, the whole place took me no more than 40 minutes, it is interesting that after putting itself .. with the hour the phone starts to look like better, just in the user guide says that setting the maximum effect within 72 hours after application, it takes time to completely evaporate the liquid itself to maximum skin optegne on the device. Honest initially told not believe .. even the rear lid are small bubbles appeared but 24 hours after putting everything was smooth and shiny as yourself can see from the photos below. Taking into account that the first set of this type of protectors, I think I made it great and not seen in anything that is wrapped around the phone.
Pillowcases have quite different than other leather, silicone, mantles, etc.. The only thing is not like that makes the phone too fat and ugly and all the beauty of the design of the Touch HD disappears.. I just wanted to be able to bring my phone in my pocket without worrying that black polished parts and the display can be scratched, damaged. That is why I chose Shield Skins protectors. I think the material is already known to everyone what he is and how durable addition of Shield Skins give the tread a lifetime warranty they offer. Honest speaking with a knife and scissors I was damn hard to scribble this film ... not to say almost impossible so that more will never see a trace of the stylus or any scratches on the body. Moreover thing is that this protector is virtually invisible and does not make your phone in fat, so you can use any pillowcase while you tread, I personally no longer intend to use pillowcases, which only disfigure the beauty of design. Also as I am not bound in any way with this company, why I released this new theme is only because the really, really fascinated by the Skins, how they are cut and do not forget the prices. Actually in my conversation with the carriage of the company prior to test tread told me that they can send my protector for virtually any device even though the site has not yet been announced. This is because the company is relatively new and the site is fully updated with all brands and models that are available but I assure you they have great templates, and no problem to buy a protector for your device even in saithe do not go for that offered it is enough just to write and refine carriage.
See the pictures below, and note that the phone seems so 24 hours after application of the tread ... I do not know how much good can happen after the next 48 hours. Although there are detailed instructions for placing in each set, will now write a few major tricks and tips for easier and better place, I learned from personal experience. Most importantly, wash your hands and dry, clean surface of the phone where you pasting, everything must be perfectly clean and pure so as to better the outcome will be. In no hurry, put in more effort and before you paste a certain part always sprinkle a little on yout fingers with a solution that is set, when your fingers are sprinkled peel off the part that you want to place and from about 30-40 cm with the same spray fluid, the tread should be dry and should not be too wet if it is dry it is too sticky and it will be very difficult to put it exactly where it is too wet will place it after dragging it until it locks in the right place you want, but then you have to wait some time around 5 minutes before it hit, may be slightly liquid has evaporated and not slip and moves when pressed. It is also nice to remove the rear cover will be much easier. After everything is placed next 24-72 hours will take Skinny exact form, the liquid will evaporate and is really, really will look like skin clutching your phone. If placed in small bubbles appear, etc., this is normally not striking would disappear. It's nice not to use the phone in the next 24 hours, i.e not to put it in his pocket and rubbing where not to tread dislocated then everything is perfect. See the pictures below how it looks. Can you guess that whole phone has a protector? It worked just great.
P.S Sorry for my English but like you know already is not my Mother Language

I think I have covered my device with that material. The waviness is familiar. I had covered the device at friends work because he had the big cutting device for that film so I just scaled the image that is in the official manual pdf and it was perfect. The film is used to protect sport vehicles stickers so it is hard. And as I mentioned before, looks very much the same.

Yes this Material is used by the Military of United States and its very very strong yesterday i try to cut it with a Knife and was not posible also is strechable like im holding a silicone but its diferent.
I think that many of the Companys that sell protectors use near the same Material but most importmantly is the CUTTING
From my Expirience i can say that this Skins above are perfect cut and is totaly a full body protector with all details some other companys offer only back and front not for the sides and all other small shiny details witch are important Now i use my device without any case anymore and i can enjoy it.
There is nothing to hide when I say lifeproof was my favorite case for the iphone and let me wondering ..when the heck are we gonna get some love??
Seidio did it with the OBEX . Its awesome to be able to put your phone under water!!! I cant get over it haha
enjoy

the 1meter limit kills it. lifeproof will be 2 meters.
I want a case even if larger designed to be opened often with NO PORTS so it can go deeper. I would like 30ft. thats deep enough you can dive down a little snorkeling and if you drop it in shallows its not likely to go deep enough to crush.
It is actually a 2.3 meter submerge for 30 minutes but contstant 1 meter down.
ahh thats not so bad then. not like typical user will stay under that long anyway

Unfortunately, it doesn't float....I let my daughter play with it in the tub, sank to the bottom.
So I finally got my review finished and thought I'd share my opinions on it.
No doubt this is a beast of a case but its not perfect by any means. I've dropped it twice from about 4 feet in height with no visible damage as well as done a few underwater trials one of which was letting my one and half year old daughter play with it while she took a bath. Held up like a champ and build quality is top notch. The case is bulky but not unusable by any means, takes a few seconds getting used to it and after that you're home free. It pockets very nicely in my jeans but I can see it being a problem for people with skinny jeans.
The screen sensitivity goes down with the screen guard and tends to jerk every once in a while so I had to disable pattern unlock and stop using the swype-like feature in the keyboard I use but I'm still able to scroll through webpages and pinch to zoom in pictures pretty well. Call quality seemed great on the receiving end but on my end it was a bit muffled. Same thing happened when listening to music but something that helped was making sure the speaker volume wasn't at full 100%. It can't be completely avoided considering the sound has to travel through a water tight chamber so in my eyes its a decent trade off.
The latch that exposes the power port stopper could be a little less hard to open imo and I definitely put my nails through a bit of pain and bruising after opening it time and time again. Hard buttons worked flawlessly but the capacitive buttons took some getting used to with the lip at the bottom of the case. Overall I would recommend you add it to your arsenal and even if its not your daily driver its good to have for those family outings or outdoor adventures.

Mine was delivered yesterday. I like the case a lot however, as noted, there is room for improvement.
My biggest complaint is that the main body of the case slides easily on hard surfaces since it's is made of hard plastic. It doesn't grip to the surface if placed face up and can easily slide off an end table or night stand if bumped. The face section of the case is lightly rubberized so the phone won't slide as easily if placed face down.
My Seidio Extended case for my Thunderbolt had a rubber exterior with a skeletonized hard plastic cover. Enough of the rubber exterior was exposed to provide some slip resistance. IMO, the Obex could benefit from some exposed rubber areas on the back portion of the case to provide some anti-slip properties.
The positive aspect of the hard cover is that it does slip into my pants pocket easily.

Agreed o how slippery it is..If the material was a little more rugged or maybe have some indentations it would be different.
Also, I dont understand a little why is it that big. Between the phone and the case there is room. They could ve made it maybe smaller and keep the phone tighter but on the other hand we are already working with a large device
How does the mic and speakers portion work? Do you have to uncover flaps or something?
Some additional observations.....
The protective screen cover really affects the sensitivity of the touch screen. Using the phone is starting to frustrate me.
The screen 'jumps' a lot and registers touches when I don't intend to touch. Additionally, getting the back button to register is hit and miss.
I guess for $80 I'm stuck with dealing with this, however, the water & drop protection are more important to me, at least for now with winter weather approaching.
Consider if the reduced screen sensitivity is worth it to you before you spend the $$$ on this case.

nope. those are protector by a membrane. So sound goes out but nothing goes in.
the ports u need to open are charging and head phones
And a little more to add....
I just got a phone call from Seidio! The rep was gathering feedback on the Obex case. I relayed the observations I made in my previous two posts and he said that he would pass it on to his product development team.
I've never experienced this from a company before! I would suspect that other early adopters will get a call for product feedback as well.
It's nice to see a company reach out to its customers.

Wow that looks awesome! thanks for the video
We have all seen the JRE scratch test video, and most of us have read Corning's response, but what is the real world scratch resistance?
When I was picked up my phone I noticed the display model had a few small scratches, so I tried to make more. I used both a penny (mohs of about 3) and a Swiss-Key stainless steel (mohs of about 5.5) keyring knife to try my best to scratch the screen, but I couldn't cause a single scratch. So why was JRE able to scratch with the level 3 pick, why did the display model already have scratches, and why couldn't I cause more?
I have tried a few different screen protectors and none of them stay down with a case, but before I take it off I want to know how safe it is.
For those of you with no screen protector, who has gotten a scratch, who hasn't, and how do you store your phone (pocket, purse, granite counter face down?)?
Using mine naked, zero scratches. I did almost have a heart attack when on day 3 it slipped out of my shorts pocket (I was wearing those loose basketball shorts and should not have had it in my pocket when I sat down, I knew this about those shorts) in my car and slid in between the seat and the seat belt anchor (which is metal!). I fully expected to have a nice, big scratch on it when I slowly and carefully retrieved it, but nope! Not a mark. Lucky I'm sure, but nonetheless I haven't had any scratch issues and it's been a full week at this point.
Full week here, had a case to protect the phone but no screen protectors. No scratches to report, front or back.
Full week here as well. No screen protector (First time in years and my anxiety levels are VERY high) and switching between two Spigen cases daily. No scratches at all. Also got a Slickwraps skin coming in soon, so it should add a bit more protection.
Using a case on the back but the front is naked, no scratches at all and i work construction. Constant dust and debris, if my gands are too dirty I use the iris scanner and s pen to use the screen to avoid any abrasions. Not a single mark....not even a light one. I think GG5 is holding up pretty nicely. Phone is in and out of a no doubt dusty pocket all the time and nothing.
It's nice to read such comments I was a bit concerned about GG5... but I think I will buy the Samsung screen protector anyway ^^ (That is not a tempered glass protector btw)
P.s. I don't have a Note 7 yet, but will buy one next yearm (Exynos - Hungary)
I'm very glad to see that so many have no scratches. Especially coming from a construction worker! I think the entire thing was kind of blown out for a phone that hadn't been released to the public yet. I may never go back to a screen protector if I can't find a tempered glass with adhesive all over.
yes, i work in construction and it can be quite dusty at times. i clean my device when i get home with a micro fiber cloth to see if anything happens, in and out of my pocket, finger use, etc. absolutely nothing. i'm not sure what the deal was with that video, but i'm going to have to go and side with corning on their conclusions. after a week of heavy use so far and different conditions, clean, dirty, i haven't even received a micro abrasion. i'm happy, it's a beautiful device and the glass seems fine...its almost 900 bucks people, handle with care lol
Well, there was a guy on Reddit warning people about the back of the stylus putting scratches on his device.

So did you give it a few swipes with the knife and coin? This is pretty interesting. I hope it turns out more scratch resistant than we think.

More than a few swipes. I took the edge of the penny and pressed hard against the glass, then moved it in small circles and then back and forth, all while maintaining pressure. Not like crack the glass pressure, but more pressure than the phone can apply with its own weight on an object. I did the same thing with the swiss key (Google "swiss key 6 in 1 knife" if you are curious what I am referring to) and once again no scratches. I tilted the screen to look at the reflections and ensure that not even faint scratches were left. The big "but" is that there were already a couple scratches on the screen, so in the week they had it up as a display model SOMETHING had to have scratched it.
Check out this lovely shot from my local T-Mobile. I didn't really notice this on any other phone.

I think I am going to stop by my local sprint store to see how their phone is holding up!
Wonder what caused those particular scratches? Sliding the metal clamp on?
I have a few scratches on mine even after babying it , when it gets gritty I'll wash it off in water shake the water off then hit it with the micro fiber and still managed to get tiny barely visible scratches . you would have to turn the screen at a certain angle for you to be able to see them but they are there ???
No case yet, full week of use and no scratches.
But she's to slippery for me to continue using without a case so I will be putting one on soon when it arrives
I lied in the poll
The screen is softer. Sure some metals will not scratch it, but sand will hand down ruin this phone. Be smart and get a cover for the front and back
I just put one a glass screen protector. Took about 2 hours for it to finally settle. Seems good so far. Box says it has 9H for hardness.

If you're using tap water, it's damaging the oleophobic coating. Tap water is full of hard substances including calcium. Ever seen what an old sink looks like? The tap water alone can be the issue.

I bet even the case guys will have scratches on the back of their phones on the edges. My front screen is hokding up fine, back (on a case) already has scratches.

I'm on the fence with a lot of these claims of having scratches and how people got them. To me, "babying it" and "when it gets gritty" don't go together at all. You baby it, but it gets dirty to the point where you have to wash it off?
For the record, I have mine in a Spigen case covering the back and naked on the front. I've been extra paranoid due to all the scratch hype, so I'm careful to keep it in empty pockets and not lay it face down on any hard surfaces. No scratches yet. Fingers crossed.
Hi, I took my V30 to pool for taking underwater selfies.... After I came out...I washed the device thoroughly with normal water. After an hour, the display started to flicker while unlocking and locking the device. Suddenly, the display went off. Except display, Everything was working, Calls were coming....etc... I kept it aside for few days before taking it to service center. After 4 days... I tried booting it, It worked...Saying battery low and turned off. I charged...then it was perfectly alright.
Still I took the device to service center the next day ro rectify any water damage, but everything was fine. Water did not go inside... All ports were working fine.
I saw a video by Mr.Mobile in YouTube, He also faced the same after putting in pool water.
Did anyone else face this ?
I am worried about IP68 resistance.
i brought mine for under water videos a few times...also washed my phone under running water with soap a few times. no issues.
It is not really intended for underwater use, the water resistance is just for the infrequent accidental splash or dunk. Not like an underwater camera. Also, impurities in water can cause problems like corrosion, once started it can progress even after the phone is "dry" leading to premature failures.

Good to know it can take that abuse.
But I wouldn't do it on purpose for my daily phone.
I know LG shows the wall of falling water in their demos, but I think it's too prove the point if you accidentally get it wet you don't need to worry.

No please go through the IP68 meaning.
It should be able to handle underwater immersion for almost 1metre and 30 mins.
Otherwise it's just water resistant!
Even I am on same page of not intentionally immersing my phone but many people do take selfies in underwater and it's a intended use too!!
People are so weird. Why won't they use proper cam to do this? Phone isn't build to do that. Maybe except Sony when you can use real button to take focused picture.
LG V30 is only sealed by adhesives, sometime they can wear out and lose the seal, i would get the screen replaced if still under warranty
Tinkerer_ said:
It is not really intended for underwater use, the water resistance is just for the infrequent accidental splash or dunk. Not like an underwater camera. Also, impurities in water can cause problems like corrosion, once started it can progress even after the phone is "dry" leading to premature failures.

Yea people have been misled by this "camera can take pictures underwater safely" marketing. It's a stretching of the truth. You can definitely do it but chances are that it may fail.
Just because IP68 rating SAYS "maximum depth of 1.5m underwater for up to thirty minutes" DOESN'T mean it should. Have you ever said "challenge accepted" to an ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT buffet? (I have. I shouldn't have........)
It's there in the event of accidentally dropping it somewhere, so you can get it out fast and it will still work. IP68 does NOT mean that you should take it underwater for pictures and videos.
Sony got into trouble because of the ad with their Xperia being shown underwater taking photos. They first said about IPx8 meaning that the phone can be in 1.5m of water for 30 minutes. Then later, they confused everyone when they pulled the ad, and said "our rating was achieved in lab testing, in standby mode. Don't take your phone underwater to take pictures."

IT works pretty well. If you need to change the glass in the back (it shatters easily IMHO) try to see if LG can do it instead since you might not have the original adhesive that LG uses
Simple advice. The only phones you should ever use underwater on purpose are the old samsung amd sony phones. They had actual covers over all ports. If the ports are not covered you can't expect the phone to be 100% waterproof. I will say though the galaxy s8 is the least waterproof phone ever. 10 seconds in about a foot of water killed my s8. Havent personally dropped my v30 in water yet.
V30 Severe water test!
My LGV10 fell off tge side of my dock. I tried scooping it up but couldn't as it was dark and 12 feet deep. Next day low tide I got it out. Dead as a door nail but looking at gmail shows last received email several hours after it hit the water. So I get a new V30, wouldn't you know it 3 months later it snaps off my sweatpants , hits the deck, slides to the swim platform and in the water! Same deal, couldn't fish it out at night, dark muddy murky water. My fiancee calls it hoping we would see the light, nope not in 12 ft! BUT the next morning low tide 9ish feet deep I manage to scoop it out. As I yank it from the net, I see it buzzing with all the messages coming thru as it got a signal. Finger print scanner worked, Heck everything worked. So I took it out of its case, had mud over it from me poking it under water, doused it with dish washing liquid and washed the Heck out of it with warm water. Dried it with a towel, only side effects was it's speaker which I blew out and after 30 min in from of a small space heater, it was like new. Now I did have a case which had a rubber plug for the head jack and USB power jack. The next day I cleaned all the jacks, micro USB and SIM card, speakers and Mic with electric contact cleaner to make sure. So V30, 12 hrs at 12 ft of water and it's flawless. I'm a believer!
Just an FYI, if your screen ever fails you can enable hardware control mode for basic usage:
Hardware control mode
If the display of the phone is broken or damaged, you can still perform some basic functions using the hardware buttons.
Turn off the phone.
Press and hold the power button and both volume keys together for more than 10 seconds to enable the hardware key control mode.
Press the volume keys to scroll to the option you want, and press the power button to confirm.
To answer a call, you can now press both volume keys at the same time to do so.
To end a call, press the power button during the call.
To stop the alarm, press and hold the volume keys together when the alarm rings.
Tap water is clean. Sea and pool water have chlorides, which are extra corrosive to metals. Washing it afterwards with tap water doesn't insure all salt is removed. Keep that in mind!

Hi all
I joined this forum to ask a question about your Z Fold 2 cases.
I purchased an Olixar Z Fold 2 case from mobile fun, unfortunately they no longer sell it so I cant link to the original
For me, I had the case on (front and back) for about a month before I removed the front case to clean the front screen. Upon inspection i can see light marks/scratches on the left hand side under where the case would sit. I attempted to wipe these away with screen cleaner and micro fibre cloth but with no luck!
So now i have an £1800 phone which has been damaged by a £30 case
Has anyone else had this happen to them?
The front case did seem flimsy, as in the left side flexed and sometimes the case would slide off to the right if i was removing it from my pocket for example.....
As you can imagine, im not very happy!

Even the original Samsung Aramid case collect dust and sand under-need and needs to be removed pretty much daily for cleaning. This may be the case why you have the damage. When I was using my Note 20 as an everyday phone, I cleaned my phone every 2 days and it still makes permanent mark around the camera assembly. I was using Samsung Flip cover case. I can't believe the case itself can make such a damage. Do you have a picture of the case?
From the scratches it appears there has been horizontal movement of the case front. I would imagine the folding and unfolding of the device does this, perhaps even the two case parts bump into each other when the device is unfolded?
The problem with this phone is: third party accessory manufacturers clearly aren't testing their products on actual devices which is bad considering this device is different to your typical phone. I've found this with display protectors, even coming across plastic protectors that don't actually like being folded.
I had my inner screen replaced by Samsung as I dropped something on it and turns out they replace the entire casing (based on the product code on the parts ordered). Samsung didn't actually charge me either despite the fact I told the customer service representative over the phone that the damage was my fault. Food for thought that you can get the casing replaced should your screen become damaged, even if at worst you'll be charged £119.
What have Mobilefun or Olixar said? Clearly this is a flaw in the product.

I actually removed my case (very similar case purchased from eBay) and can see a tiny scratch like this forming after only a week. I imagine if I continue to use it, the same thing would happen to my phone. I think this is why most of these cases have a little rubber or sticky material around this area to prevent sliding, and as a byproduct it collects dust and prevents it from scratching your phone. I'll probably order a Spigen case to prevent this type of damage.
Same here with Spigen case

Did that case damage the screen as well? That some serious malfunction. I've been trying to look for something to protect the front of the phone but it looks like there's a dearth of options.

Bad design by Samsung. Samsung left you with a high dollar phone and no way to protect it.
The idea of not having a case on this phone is absurd to me, yet by design it's extremely hard to protect with one owing to its constant movement whilst unfolding/folding. Predictable.
Samsung should have at least a ruggedized version.
And I though the Note 10+ was bad... I stand corrected.
Note: You can try a trick I use to prevent marring and seal out grit. Stretch teflon tape around the sides of the phone in contact with the case. It helps.
The tape is cheap so play with it until it comes out looking good as the first time might not.

Only the hinge ... I have
contacted Samsung to replace the Fold 2 as it is their problem
Ehy Guy's
I contacted Samsung about the scratch problem on the front shell and they replied that will send a code for the free replacement of the front screen without using Samsung Care +
