Hello,
I created a kernel (based on fugumod) which supports all filesystems and has only one purpose, rooting any SGS stock ROM.
It installs:
- busybox
- su
- SuperUser
It also removes annoying boot and shutdown sounds.
Is it safe to use
It is safer than rooting using speedmod or whatever other all purpose kernel as it does not try to start android after rooting, so there is no fs corruption possible. It works even for very new leaks.
How to use:
1: Flash the stock rom
2: Download the image for Heimdall or for Odin
3: Flash it with either Odin or Heimdall
4: Boot once, it will install root and crash/shutdown (it is preferred to let the phone connected to usb so it does not loop boot)
5: Reflash the original kernel
How to reflash the original kernel on windows using Odin
1: install 7zip if don't have it already. It has been reported that IZarc or PeaZip may be more reliable.
2: unpack zImage which is in the PDA tar or tar.md5
3: with 7zip, IZarc or PeaZip create a new tar which contains only zImage and save
4: flash the the new tar using Odin
Does it work on ROM XXXXX?
It should work on every ROM since it recognizes all filesystems and does not try to start android.
Busybox was not installed on my device
Please download the updated version and retry, it will work fine.

Of course, I created it after JVK. It should support _all_ ROMs
Thanks, tested and working on JVK
Whoop!
I was worried that I'd have to wait for Samsung to do their OS code drop before I could switch to JVK, now I won't have to!
Thanks muchly.
thanks for your great work...

No, it just roots your device, but once it's rooted you should be able to install another recovery.
Can someone upload JVK original kernel? I try to delete files in 7zip, it pop up an error message say "Not implanted"

Doesnt work for me. Flashed the fugu mod kernal easily but when trying to return to default kernal Odins log just says:

<ID:0/009> zImage
and stays at that until i unplug it.
Settings:
no pit or any other files just zimage.tar as PDA
no repartition
autoreboot.
Edit: worked using the kernal runedrune posted. Not sure why mine didnt. Extracted and packed into a tar archive using 7zip.
Sorry, but in Odin I have to flag reboot?
Example I have to flash your kernel as speedmod kernel?

You will have to boot once into my kernel, so it's easier if you tell Odin to just reboot.

I am a MadTeam developer and I recently acquired this phone. I noticed that there weren't any Odin flashable ClockworkMod recoveries of the latest versions for this device, so I made my own and decided to share with you guys. This possibly may be helpful for new comers and also for people who may want to update their recoveries to touch recoveries without having to purchase the pro version of ROM Manager. I'll be sure to keep this thread up-to-date.
These are based off of the official ClockworkMod recovery images available at http://www.clockworkmod.com with no changes whatsoever.
ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.1.5: http://www.mediafire.com/?wjm90gwjcvg4ccc
ClockworkMod Touch Recovery v6.0.1.5: http://www.mediafire.com/?bpr3dd11747zgcc
Flashing Instructions:
1. Open up Odin3 v1.85. Make sure only the "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" boxes are checked and nothing else.
2. Connect your phone to the computer in Download Mode. Odin should now detect your phone.
3. Select the PDA button and navigate to the desired recovery tar.
4. Press the "Start" button. It will now flash the updated recovery to your device. Your device will reboot upon completion.
Reserved.
Thanks, now when we say, Odin flash CWM, we can speak of flashing the latest one instead of the old 5.xx!
Thank you for doing this. I'm sure it will help some people out.
F. Reset Time
What does "F. Reset Time" do and is this required?

Honestly not sure if needed but I've always had it checked and nothing bad had happened.
I stall out on flashing recovery image. Here's what I get. I'm using a tar where I manually swapped in the recovery image on my own.
<ID:0/004> Added!!
<ID:0/004> Odin v.3 engine (ID:4)..
<ID:0/004> File analysis..
<ID:0/004> SetupConnection..

And it just stalls. The screen of the phone appears as if nothing happened. I don't see the progress bar or anything.
Odin shows the first blue bar of the progress bar but it never goes beyond that.
Any help?
EDIT - it worked fine using one of the tars from this thread. So what am I doing wrong when substituting a recovery image on my own?
Hey thanks mate.
I tried flashing the latest TCWM via Rom Manager, and I guess the download got interrupted and it had a bad flash.
Ah well, not a big deal, but you saved me from having to go back to stock to unbrick it.
thanks for this its awesome to be updated and when i need it i will report lol

---------------------Warning!-----------------------------------------
This CWM recovery is for SGS4A (int'l) ONLY. Does not work on SGS4 from AT&T as it has a locked bootloader.
Please refer to this thread for a bounty on the bootloader.
---------------------Instructions for flash with ODIN---------
Download ODIN 3.09 from here.
Download CWM recovery from here.
Extract the zip so you have the file CWM-Recovery-gt-i9295_v1-2.tar.md5.
Restart your phone while holding the Volume Down button as the phone is booting.
Press the Volume Up button to continue past the warning.
With the phone attached to your computer open ODIN and press AP.
Choose CWM-Recovery-gt-i9295_v1-2.tar.md5 and press start.
Reboot system
If you already have another version of CWM recovery installed, you can alternatively download CWM-Recovery-gt-i9295_v1-2_zipFLASH.zip and flash it through CWM recovery.
As always, I take no responsibility in case your phone blows up.
When im right, and you had a custom recovery from chainfires Auto-Root, you can flash my flashable zip. It makes it mouch easier. I cant test it, but i mean it sould work.

EDIT: Ah, now I think I get your post. You might be able to flash with the twrp manager, but the twrp recovery UI itself doesn't work, which is why we need to flash cwm in the first place.
I think this is a recovery. I made flashable Zip of yours/this. So you can flash it through the recovery which you get from auto root. Or did the recovery from auto root doesnt work? If not, forget what i post.:silly:

You can make a tar for flashing over Odin!? But not with a ZIP .... if the CWM works... you can flash newer version over the cwm!

Unpack the ZIP once.. then but it in Odin to PDA and flash it!

So, it's a little buggy but at least it gets the job done in case anyone wants to play with roms. The screen only updates for every second key press, but with a little care you can navigate around. Backup, restore and zip flash works fine. Only fat on external sd card.
It's a little hacky, but works. Although, please don't yell at me if anything goes wrong with your phone. This is baby steps towards custom roms. If you don't know what you're doing stay away from this.

It doesn't work with exfat, which I think is samsungs standard if you format on device.
I have flashed different roms but they all suffer from black screens. Need to recompile with the proper kernel. I've been trying to get cm10 working with the kernel from samsung, but I'm running into problems. Not that experienced with this, so progress is a little slow as I figure out how these things work.

I didn't root the device, CWM offers to root it if you need.
I have no idea why it doesn't work for you, may be there are several modifications of i9295 with different display parameters.
Recompiled CWM with kernel sources. Should work a lot better with proper adb support and no issues with the user interface.

That worked. User interface now works. Still getting "warning no file_contexts" error. Is that a problem?
Also, when you go to reboot, you get the warning about the system trying to reflash stock recovery. If you select "Go Back" It still reboots for some reason.
Thanks for all your hard work.
Hey there,
I know some people have been requesting this for quite some time! This couldn't have been possible without @techguy1214 so a huge thanks goes out to him!
This is the absolute STOCK M919N Firmware. (THIS IS NOT ROOTED!)
EXPERIMENTAL: This is UNTESTED by me, I compiled this ODIN tar file using the same structure the T-Mobile ODIN File has. I do not have the MetroPCS version of this phone, I have the T-Mobile version. But I figured enough people wanted it so I would try to make it happen.
CONFIRMED WORKING!
I will not be help responsible if you brick your device or flash this incorrectly and your phone ends up blowing up. You have been warned.

1. Download the above .zip file and extract the .tar file in the archive and save it somewhere
2. Reboot your phone to download mode.
To get download mode shut down the device. After it shuts off completely simultaneously press the Down volume key+ Home button + press the power button .
3. Start Odin
4. Click on the PDA button and browse to the .tar file that you extracted in step 1 and select it
5. DO NOT PUT .PIT FILE AND DO NOT TICK REPARTITION
6. Connect the USB cable and wait for the ID:COM section to turn blue
7. Click start to flash
8. Do not disconnect the cable or turn off the device once the flash has started, it’s going to take some time to flash, when finish exit Odin and disconnect USB.
9. Let the phone start and Voila!!!!!!

M919N is the MetroPCS variant of the Galaxy S4.
M919V is the Wind / Mobilicity / Videotron variant of the Galaxy S4, I believe.
This is for people that maybe messed up flashing a ROM or simply want to go back to barebone OFFICIAL MetroPCS stock firmware due to any reason. (Most likely they broke something and want to send it to warranty, lol.)

My device - GT-N7100
ROM- N7100XXUEMK4_N7100ODDEMK1_N7100DDEMJ9_HOME.tar http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2536423
Official stock 4.3 knox enabled rom
So today i flashed this rom and and when i wanted to root the rom it was very difficult to find a guide to do it, but somehow i managed to root it by taking instructions from few separate threads and i thought of sharing it with others who are facing the same problem.
It was very hard to find how to manually root after flashing 4.3 stock rom and so i wanted to gather what i've learned from few threads and put em into a 1 thread as a guide. Hope this helps
What you will need
1> philz_touch_5.15.0-n7100.tar.md5
http://d-h.st/OIX
2>[GT-N710x][SHV-E250*] CF-Auto-Root

3>DrKetan_MultiTool_AdvanceV6.zip
http://d-h.st/MTB
4>Odin 3.4* (this is the version i have & tested)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703998
5>Samsung device drivers
Step 1
> boot into download mode
start odin3 as administrator and put philz_touch_xxx.md5 into PDA
connect phone in download mode to PC via USB
press start to flash the tar.md5 package
Phone should restart after the process.
Step 2
>Put "DrKetan_MultiTool_AdvanceV6.zip" into external memory and Reboot to Philz recovery
Now flash Multi tool using "instal zip from external sd"
Now go to Aroma file manager>System>App
Now add .bak extension to all knox related apk files Ex-Knox.apk > Knox.apk.bak
NOTE- make sure you don't change anything else you are only supposed to rename knox related apk files
Now exit Aroma and reboot ( don't do anything else)
Step 3
>- Start Odin3-vX.X.exe
- Click the PDA button, and select CF-Auto-Root-....tar.md5
- Put your phone in download mode (turn off phone, then hold VolDown+Home+Power to boot - if it asks you to press a button to continue, press the listed button
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Make sure Repartition is NOT checked
- Click the Start button
- Wait for Android to boot
after your phone boots it will show "Unfortunately super SU stopped working" Ignore it and go to step 4
Step 4
>Reboot to recovery (Philz), [ If CF auto root has activated your stock recovery do the STEP 1 again to get the Philz recovery ]
Now flash "DrKetan_MultiTool_AdvanceV6.zip" again
And this time go to
Proceed with Multi tool > Skip root inject page (do not change system status) > now in the next page you get to select if you want to remove knox from the system so now Select to remove knox from system and then save and reboot. ( This will disable all the knox related stuff in the system)
after your phone boots it will show "Unfortunately super SU stopped working" Ignore it and go to step 5
Step 5
>So now just go to Play store and update your Super SU and open it and it might ask you weather to instal script in NORMAL mode or CWM
i did CWM and it worked, didn't try normal mode so i suggest you to try CWM as well.
That's it you're permanently rooted and Superuser will act as a system app
Now your Super SU should be working

I'm not exactly sure if this would work for everyone but this worked for me so i just shared it with everyone hoping this would help others. And i will not be help responsible for any damage that cause, try it at your own risk .. anyway rooting and everything is risky so if you're up for it only try it.

NOTE- If you factory reset the phone it will show you that "super user stopped working" o something like that, Just hit ok and open PLAYSTORE and update your superSU again and you have a Running superSU again that's it Your root is permanent Don't ever worry about that
Extra Info for Beginners You can only flash and 4.3 based roms using Philz recovery 5.xx & don't try to flash 4.4 based roms using Philz 5.xx as the flash will fail giving an Error. Use Philz recovery 6.xx to flash android 4.4 based roms
PS- You can only restore nandroid backups using philz 6.xx versions and if you restore nandroid backup using 5.xx version you will be stuck on samsung LOGO.. if u accidentally do this and stuck on samsung logo, don't panic.Press and hold power button and turn off the phone. Then boot into download mode and flash philz 6.xx via ODIN PC and restore your nandroid backup again and your phone will boot up You can flash philz 5 versions over 6 and 6 versions over 5 using odin anytime. no problem there.
Download philz 6.15 from here http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/n7100

1st flash cf - autoroot... after rooting process over (after flashing phone restarts and starts rooting process after completion phone restarts again..)
2nd then flash philz touch.... now try it .... phone will load ur custom recovery.. then use Multi tool for deknox....
( remember dont root ur phone with multitool.. u already rooted it with cf autoroot)

Important NOTICE- This will not work if you did one or all 3 OTA updates which are specifically 14MB, 62MB and 21MB they come as system stability updates but once you update using them they activate Auto stock recovery system which will lock your recovery to the stock unless you root the device and remove the specific file from system root. So please don't give my post bad ratings or complain that this is not working if you've updated the phone using small OTA updates mentioned above.
To get rid of this problem you can flash the stock rom again and do this method without doing the OTA updates (IT will work)
If you don't have the stock 4.3 rom you can get it from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2536423
Follow the instruction to flash , DO NOT DO OTA UPDATES after u flash it.
Now you can start the rooting procedure mentioned below and 100% guaranteed it works if you do everything as i've adviced

Yes, It counts when you flash the CWM via Odin PC
but without a custom recovery you can't use super SU as it keeps on force closing due to knox
Anyway once you root your phone your warranty is void right ? so why worry about knox counters
I thought your steps here could avoid the knox trip...
if that so, your step could be shorten to easier method...
1st... flash cf auto root by odin
2nd... update supersu apk
3rd... download root browser from playstore, and by using root browser you can change all knox app apk to apk.bak
easier n simpler...

I know, i tried so many quick methods to root mine this INU 4.3 rom and every time it failed, most of the time my root was gone after rebooting the phone , so i mixed up the info i got from many quick root methods and did it all to make a permanent root.
just posted this here to help anyone who faced the same problem like me

And even if you rename all the KNOX related apk files there are some files that doesn't directly say they are knox but they run in the system and it used to cause my Super SU to crash and that's why i have mentioned an extra step to go to Dr.Katen's toolkit and select to remove all knox related stuff, it really cleans the whole system from knox 200%
no no no... what I mean here, u r using cf auto root... so no need to flash multitools just to get rid the knox apk... I dont see rooting via cf auto root will give any prob... only that, the knox will trip...
2 steps saved here.... no need to flash custom recovery (only flash recovery if decide to flash custom rom) and no need to flash multitools...
no offence, im just giving an option here... a simpler option...

hahah thanks for that info, case the 1st time i tried Super SU after the update it didn't promote me to to get rid of knox so i didn't know abot that
anyway it's good to know. did you flash a custom rom ?
i wanted to flash a custom rom but the stock 4.3 is very battery friendly and very good in terms of ram management. if you know any rom except ditto v3.2 be sure to share
im on pheonix 16.7 now... before was on jellykatv2 and jellykatv3... also tried z ized 240dpi... it's hard for me to recommend any rom though cos they are all good... in terms of battery, yes I must admit the stock one is damn good battery save... but custom rom have extra note3 features... arrrghhhhhh im so confused which and which... battery or note3 features...

But looking for a custom rom to use with less bloat wear
I've tried ditto 3.2 but it used too much ram
I need a light rom

I got this to work finally using your instructions at the top of this thread - the 'easy' way didn't work of just applying the root zip (CF-Auto-Root-t03g-t03gxx-gtn7100.zip) to my stock 4.3 GT-N7100 Note 2 - I kept getting the FC's on superSU and the Knox security reports.
I then followed your steps and got a lot further, Knox seemed to be removed fine. I still couldn't get the SuperSU app to update correctly, so i booted the Note 2 into the phils recovery file manager and used it to replace the existing superuser.apk file located in /system/apps/ with the one mentioned & linked to in the comments in this thread - then restarted.
This allowed me to go to the play store, and perform an 'update' on the app (prior the only option the Play store was giving me on the SuperSU app was 'open', not update) , which then worked - great
Now rooted, no knox, new bootloader and seems faster too! 1 day in and all is well.
Glad to hear that
Great that u wrote the way you did it.
It would help someone

ROM- N7100XXUEMK4_N7100ODDEMK1_N7100DDEMJ9_HOME.tar http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2536423
Official stock 4.3 knox enabled rom
So today i flashed this rom and and when i wanted to root the rom it was very difficult to find a guide to do it, but somehow i managed to root it by taking instructions from few separate threads and i thought of sharing it with others who are facing the same problem.
It was very hard to find how to manually root after flashing 4.3 stock rom and so i wanted to gather what i've learned from few threads and put em into a 1 thread as a guide. Hope this helps
What you will need
1> philz_touch_5.15.0-n7100.tar.md5
http://d-h.st/OIX
2>[GT-N710x][SHV-E250*] CF-Auto-Root
http://download.chainfire.eu/264/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-t03g-t03gxx-gtn7100.zip
Try downloading Root checker or titanium backup and see if they work, They should work.
I'm not exactly sure if this would work for everyone but this worked for me so i just shared it with everyone hoping this would help others. And i will not be help responsible for any damage that cause, try it at your own risk .. anyway rooting and everything is risky so if you're up for it only try it.

I haven't tried any custom roms on this 4.3 rom yet but Phoenix rom comes highly recomanded. DITTO rom is also good but it comes with too much bloat which consumes about 1.1 gb ram just for the system.
Try Pheonix rom. If u like
