Ok I can't send video messages through handcent no matter how low of a resolution or duration I go.it keeps saying message size limit reached? Help!

Anybody ever come up with an answer to this? My wifes phone has this problem...
In Handcent under settings - send message settings look for maximum mms size and change it to 1.2M. Then scroll down all the way to the bottom and look for auto convert and make sure its checked. That should work, if not there is aldo a setting in there to split large files (split 160), but im not sure how that works with vidoes.
EDIT: Actually that dosent work either. I just tried to send one and it gave me the same error message. Been a long time since i sent a video, guess i just never noticed. Only been using handcent for like 7mo.

Am I missing something? I can't figure out how to get my G2 to send a regular picture message, It sends and recieves pictures as a slide show for me. Sending a picture from the G2 to a G1, the G1 gets it as a picture message even though it shows up on my phone as a slide show.
Try sending one from yourself. A bunch of the guys I work worth like to forward nsfw pics around all day and if someone who didn't have a smart phone sent it to me it was a slide show, if someone had a smart phone, etc, I got it the right way.

It's a bug. Tmobile is very aware of it. There are some 3rd party free apps in the marketplace that will fix the issue.

Name of those apps, please?
chompsms, I think. I don't have android right now but I read up on the topic. Here's a link.

Yeah. i use handcent. its lightyears better than stock app and has quick reply and quick compose features. ALso no stupid slideshow mode.
thats what i use
Sorry to bring up a dead topic but just wondering if a fix was ever found? I've flashed a new ROM & its having this problem.
I really don't know of any 'fix' for this. Not to mention the fact that the best OS out the can't seem to send a proper mms and not compress it to less than 10kb. No amount of UA spoofing or alternate messaging apps will fix any of this until google addresses the issue. Maybe some one smarter than I can sort through the phones code and find the culprit, then remove it.

Ever since setting my UA to Nexusone I have had zero problems with large MMS.
They download at full size, I just received a 665k MMS today.

What do you mean by "UA"?

Yes, but how about sending? The custom UA doesn't fix that issue, any mms you send will compress to a wicked small file. I've even resized the image to 600Kb and even 300Kb, both were reduced to a measly 6Kb and 8Kb (same with my MT Slide when I used it).
Btw, UA = User Agent.
It's the ID of each model of phone that the network servers use to determine certain features, like mms. When you send an mms it sends messages to the server stating 'message incoming/phone UA' the server then sends back an ok - the message is sent, server sends a receipt.
When a message is sent to you the server sends an invisible text stating 'message waiting/message address/what's your UA ID' the phone then confirms the UA ID. The server then reads the UA and adjusts the message accordingly and says the message is ready, phone then downloads it and sends receipt.
Very long (but quick) process. So yes, changing the UA will help with receiving an mms but the phone, at least in Androids case, is the reason why we can't send a large mms. Since all messaging apps like handcent still rely on the core process used by Android to send messages - there's no way to bypass it completely. You can trick it into sending a 300Kb picture as long as the original size isn't much larger but good luck on 600Kb - 1MB or more, they get downsized to nothing.
Hello. I'm wondering if anyone can assist me.
I have an Xperia Arc, running the most recent official Sony release. I have not 'rooted' or unlocked the 'phone, it is as it left the O2 shop. Plus the odd scratch or two...
When I am sent an MMS message, two annoying things happen.
1. The 'ringer' doesn't sound, the vibrator doesn't vibrate. If you happen to be looking, the light on the side of the 'phone flashes once, then nothing.
2. When I open the Messages App, the conversation relating to the person who sent the MMS message is at the top of the screen. If I open this conversation I see a blank message with the text 'Message not downloaded' in it. After a long period of time of clicking and tapping, I found that if I 'Long Click' the Message Not Downloaded notification, I get the option to download the message. Once I have manually selected the download option, the message is downloaded correctly, and once fully downloaded, the 'ringer' sounds as normal, along with any vibration.
I have no problem whatsoever in sending MMS messages.
Once the option to download has been selected, I have no problem receiving the message (apart from seeming rather slow).
I've seen threads that suggest checking or changing the APN settings, I would have thought that has to be working correctly, as sending and receiving messages works, if not automatically.
I did wonder if it might be due to being on a slow network, here at home we don't have fast O2 mobile coverage, no 3G, Edge or HSDPA here, just plain GPRS (G in status bar).
Is there a way of having the 'phone automatically download the MMS message and content?
in the first voice of the menu, i guess you can find where to download content for data and mms
Duplicate. Sorry.

I've checked all the menus I can think of, but can't see any download options. Is there a specific menu you are thinking of here CavinRay?
I had this issue before, I use handcent, and sorted it by opening up the stock message app and going into the options.
Look for something to do with 'push settings' and make sure it's selected.
Might not help but worth a shot mate.

Thanks, I've just tried turning it off (it was already on) then exiting Messages, re-opening Messages and turning it back on.
I'll see if that has any effect on the confusion.
Im trying to send a video that is 12 sec long but it wont let me send due to "Message size too big" never had a problem sending long videoa on the iphone wit tmobile. Is there something that i need to do?
Also i cant attached a video in email. Does anyone knows what is going on?
You have to change the resolution size through camcorder settings. There should be an mom's mode. You wont be able to send the video you have now unless you use like dropbox or sync to your computer but videos in the future will work fine as long as its recorded with that setting.

ok i did change the setting to MMS settings record. I just recorded a minute video and still the same message. Does anyone know what is wrong?
I just downloaded this app because i need threaded mms. but i noticed that my last sent message always stays in the txt box after i sent it off and when i go back later to message that person I keep having to delete the txt i last sent. I cant seem to find a setting for why this happens but its dealbreaking in its level of annoyance.
Anyone know how to make this stop?

I can't receive any of the photos I'm send. I'm using GoSMS as my sms app and when i get a photo it gives me an option to download but when I click it, it just downloads then eventually stops I have AOKP 4.2.1 with the 3.0.30-Underwear.kernel. I tried disabling and enabling auto receive on the stock app, and checking if the apn is correct. I searched the forums and even google for the past day and it still isn't working.. Is there anything I can do ? If not then is there any ROM that you suggest I should use..
Also, how come my stock sms app refuses to open if i have one thread with like 20k messages. I have a friend with the older nexus and his phone is fine..
The message says
"Message not downloaded
Select to review the message and try again"
You need to change/manually input apn settings in the gosms app to match the phone
There is also that fill user Agent manually thing, do i need that? :S
Hmm, okay now I can send them and people actually get the photo and not a link but now I dont get any message at all lol. Like it doesnt even ask me to download it.
Bump? Still not getting mms LOL
