I'm wanting to flash Ziggy's 3/12 bfs HAVS kernel but I have a question:
My current Kernel is Chad's Incredikernel 12/23/2010 2.6.32.27

Ziggy's kernel is
This one right?
Even though the numbers (version) don't EXACTLY match up- will it be alright?
2.6.32.X
I wouldn't want to flash the wrong thing ya know?

Yes, that is the right one.
In your first screen shot he is just showing you all the change logs.
^ Thank you, I appreciate it.
Well today I flashed the Kernel and I think I have another issue which is causing Major battery drain.
On the Charger at 1:30
And again at 4:30
I bump-charged this morning too.
Here's what Android System had been running
And finally
What's up with my battery usage? I even have a 1500mAh Evo that doesn't seem to help.
Maybe it's my rom?

I was having a similiar issue as you ,running Business sense Z rom I installed Lou's number 8, I wiped Dalvik and cache and battery stats now the battery doesn't drain as fast. Previous to doing this I was only getting about 8 hrs on a full charge. Also my dislpay was around 70% is down to around 40%
34 minutes later peep the battery level

What is your brightness set to? I'm lead to believe high brightness is the number one cause for poor battery life. In general, your screen is the number one draw from your battery. By the one screenshot of battery usage, I might be on to something
edit: turn off the gps too if you havent.
I wound up flashing a recovery of Incredibly re-ingineered.
Check out the data used:
I found a temporary fix.
Today I burned through 4 batteries
Totaling 5400 mAh (1-1500 evo & 3-1300 eris/incredible batteries).
So yeah, lame.

Maybe try out a AOSP rom, sense roms sync too much, too often. Then start tweaking usage + other stuff.
Consider downloading setcpu here on xda. Set main to run at 600 MHz max, min at 128. Set to conservative and hit set on boot. Make 2 more profiles, a temp and a screen off to have the same values: 384 max, 128 min. Temp should kick in at around 40C. Then go to advanced, change up to 75, down to 25 and freq step to 10. If you want to go a little more crazy, cap it all off with juice defender free.
If you do go AOSP, get chad's latest then flash the aggressive HAVS settings. If you do do this, you might want to then go into setcpu -> info and run a stress test just to see if it is stable.
Thank you Sir/all, I'll look into that.
This is good info for myself & others.

Try a different kernel. I tried Ziggy's and battery charge pretty much evaporated. Switched to Lou's #9 and it's been smooth sailing ever since.

I've never cared about battery life before because I'm typically near a charger however I'm going to the beach for a few days and will need my phone to last.
What's the best kernel/set up for me if I'm running Fresh 3.1.0.2? I don't care about performance, fps, mflops, etc for these few days as long as the battery lasts and the phone is stable. I have setcpu on my phone but don't really know how to use it.

The latest cfs kernels are supposed to focus more on battery life than performance. Do you underclock cuz that's a big help too.

I'm running Fresh and Netarchy's 4.1.8 kernel.Creating a set CPU profile for when the phones screen is off will increase your battery life quite a bit.My screen off profile has the CPU max at 245 ghz and the min at 128.You can also scale back your max from 998 mhz to around 500 mhz and save battery without your phone being so slow that its really noticeable during normal use.

Interesting. What kind of battery life do you get? I thought I read a while back that going below 245 was a bad idea. Guess not?

It's more stable with the newest kernels. I'm set at 245 min and max when the screen is off and I usually see a 1% loss every couple hours but I haven't paid a lot of attention to it lately cuz like you, I'm usually near a charger. Battery life while using the phone still isn't great but I kind of expect that from a phone like this. There are some good battery conditioning tutorials in the forum that help quite a bit too.

Here's my usage for the last week.I go off charger at around 7am and usually have about 70% charge remaining when I get home at 5.

After realizing that I made a mistake by ditching my EVO for the Epic; I returned to the EVO and installed CM6. What a difference! Everything is great so far except for battery life (even using profiles on setCPU) so I was wondering what kernel would provide speed, reliability and battery savings. I'm currently running CM6 kernel and I'm getting around 1250 on quadrant (around the same results of the nexus one with froyo) so I'm happy with the speed so far but I would love some more battery life (I'm getting less than 8 hours with moderate use).
Thanks
What I learn is try a kernel for a day or two. Try another.. you will find one. Not saying do this but this is what I'm doing. Just like finding a rom.. always come back to cm6

Geez, my bad. For some reason I thought I was in the general section.
Can a mod move this thread to the general section? Thanks
Before this gets moved.. all hardware is different. On paper its the same, but what we have learned is that phones respond differently to the software thrown at them. As others suggested, try them out. Snap as well as Kings are excellent kernels. Just find there threads and I can't stress enough to read the op. Most of the questions you have can be found there, as it can be a little cumbersome with all the different versions for some. But yeah, make sure to give it a run for a few days before you decide its not working for you. Your phone needs to get used to it, so basing it off a charge after a few cycles is always a good idea.

Run Snap v7.5 for an increase in speed and battery life.
King's Kernel all the way, and I've tried all the damn Snap kernels.
Mostly, you should be managing your wifi/3g/screen off cpu settings.

I've been using King's #1 kernel after trying (and having issues with) a myriad of Snap kernels. I really like King's and am waiting for #2.
Hi
Baterry usage
29/30ma in standby, isn't that too much? When IDLE
HD2- normaln/ idle 3-8mA
Normal for G2 is ??
Thanx
Virtuous v1.0.1 (HTC Sense 1.85.72.2)
1.85
T-mobile g2
usage only 2g (EDGE)
yeah thats fairly normal matey, mine is always on 30ma in idle and 250-300 in use.
my battery lasts a full day sooo i dont mind
my old hd2 lasted me a whole day as well.
i dont mind much difference in battery life between the two phones
just make sure you use setcpu and make a profile so that when the screen is off the cpu min is 256 and the cpu max is 256... you could set the max a little higher if you want but i have no problems using this setup.
Currently on miui and I have 3-8 on idle on average. I always check my ma usage with current widget.

Yeah I tripped out too when I first saw it. Made a huge difference in my battery life. I running the stock rom off the miui-dev site with the English translation pack over it. I love the rom.

im guessing from the looks of it its like android with a smoother interface like ios
What kind of idle consumption are other people getting?
I feel like mine is kind of high, but not sure. G2 stock OTA rom. Perm rooted and Oced, running SetCPU. Currentwidget says somewhere between 37-40mA in idle. That gets me something like 30-33 hours of pure idle on wifi calling.

My DZ (currently running stock rooted Sense 1.82) idles at about 28mA if I have Wi-fi/data off, 2G only, and SetCPU locking the CPU to minimum when the screen's off... about 32-35mA with Wi-fi/data on and 3G (SetCPU still locking the CPU to minimum when the screen's off)
State your setup, or the best you've had.

You're chasing unicorns with that question! There really isn't any combo that gives exponentially crazy super battery life.
With that said...
I think the best I ever had it was with:
ROM: AVA's Z3
KERNEL: Whatever version Netarchy HAVS no SBC kernel was floating around at the time.
I made it over a day a few times with that set up, but with normal use would make it about 19 - 21 hours.
I haven't had that kind of life for a while.
I have been on Fresh 3.5 since getting my Evo beginning of March. I use the stock kernel and would say I use my phone a moderate amount. Corporate emails pushed, Gmail, weather bug elite are always syncing, etc. When I have good reception, I can usually get 30 + hours on a full charge. I am not in a 4g area so I don't use that radio.

I wish I remembered my combo but I would get 60+ hours with light usage. It was dependent on setcpu + using wifi at home and work. I've been chasing it ever since I tried a different rom/kernel combo. I have gotten about 30+ hours with stock roms/kernel.
I'm on decks 1.2 with savage Zen and viperboys -75 script get 14-18hours of heavy usage. Lasts me all day at school with Pandora, music, web, some 4g... oh and I'm sixteen so I'm required to text my girlfriend constantly, so considering I leave at 8 am and my phone dies around ten each night. I get about 15 hours, light usage, no Pandora, a little music, little less texting, I easily get into the thirty hour range. as a general rule aosp roms get better battery life, and some kernels work different on different phones. Some people get absolutely ridiculous battery life with tiamat heavily undervolted.... 50 hours of constant use etc. Depends on your phone
Good luck
Edit: a few weeks ago I forgot my phone when we went out of town for the weekend. Three days gone, when I got back I had 37 percent left. Just unplugged it from full and left it on my table... then left, lol

hello:
my evo 4g battery lasts less than one day.
I googled but didn't find any good suggestions.
if I flash a custom rom to remove all bloatware, does it help?
thanks a lot.
I would also like to know this.

This should be in the Q&A, I Belive but to answer this question, a lot of things affect battery, first a old battery of course won't last you so long. Second are you running a custom Rom? And overclocking it with like CPU tuner or simmliar.
Are you running your brightness high,is your 4g on all the time, are you using music or social media a lot, playing games and so on.
That being said, moat customs roms can improve battery life to a degree, aswell as the kernel you use and what setting you are running it at, for instance I m running my custom Rom with underworld v8 no halvs sbc kernel
And my governer Set with ondemand at 769 max or something like that, I don't run 4g when I have WiFi, and my screen brightness is set low unless I need it brighter I will change it, I also have a lot of tweeks in my build prop, which a lot of other devs do aswell to help with battery life.
There is a nice section in these forums that explain governers you should read it, you will learn a lot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663809
I get about 2 days with normal use on my setup.
Hope this helps.
Also its always good to wipe battery stats when flashing new roms, also discharge battery fully and then charge it fully.

Custom roms usually have better battery life. On average I get the best life out of the sense 3.5 roms with the aggressive lionfish kernel but the kernel does not support ext4. Sense 3.5 also needs sd-ext partition to run and when changing kernels you must manually mount the data partition before you flash the kernel.

The stock battery doesn't last very long, I'd suggest getting an extended life battery if you plan on keeping your EVO for a while.
I use my evo for music now,I thought I lost it for 2 weeks, this is airplane mode ,running cm9
Underclock, dim brightness, install a lean ROM and take off services you don't need I.g. 4G or 3g.
Other than that. Extended batteries are the way to go.
