Opera Mobile 11 is out - Galaxy S I9000 Themes and Apps

As ysou might have or might have not heard Opera Mobile 11 is now out on the Android Market. And in my Opinion its by far the best browser, in terms of page load times it may be a tad slower than the stock browser. But in turns of scrolling it's just so much better, super smooth at all times evon on the heaviest sites i've found (even while loading) , no checkerboard at all and no blurry text when zooming.
One thing it didn't like so much was the font, but you can change that
when typing "opera:config" or "about:config" in the address bar.
I stll haven't found the perfect settings but I lake it better now.
my settings are:
Form.Text
20,2,0,0,0,0,Droid Sans
Normal
19,4,0,0,0,0,Droid
There are allot of other settings too, maybe someone finds (and shares) settings that improve performance or reduce ram usage without harming performance.

Will check it out.

I agree, the best internet browser so far!!

Just found out how to use a custom user agent.
In "opera:config" there is a menu called "user prefs"
under "custom user agent" you can input any user agent you want I used the one from Opera 11 Desktop. And now every page loads the Desktop version.

Trying it out now... Thanks for the update!

Update it.. I had flash when 11 came out, but it crashed when using flash. With the latest update seem like flash is gone.

Are you sure its activated?
(settings-> other-> adobe flash)

Is anyone else having problems with scrolling? In my SGS it sometimes takes a few seconds after finger swipe before the browser reacts at all. Then again, after restarting Opera it may work ok.
My ROM is Doc's version 9.9.5 XWJS8.

[Q] Looking for a fast aftermarket browser for evo/flash...

Is there an aftermarket browser that works very well with the evo and flash?
not really, most have issues with macromedia, adobe shouldnt be a problem, I use firefox but it still has pinch to zoom issues, I keep it because no other downloads as well, I've lost signal for 10 minutes on a mediafire download and it resumed while others would have dropped it

it just seems that the stock browser is slow. skyfire sucked on my hero and i didnt need or want all the social options integrated within it, in fact, the only browser that i ever used was opera mini. I dont NEED flash but its nice to have the option.
guess im just seeking something faster. thank you
perhaps a better question could be: which browsers actually support flash? thank you thank you
Dolphin is great in my opinion. Plus it gives you the option to run flash on the page instead of automatically running it. This saves on page load time.

ill try dolphin again also. i just installed skyfire and am messing around with it. so far it seems pretty fast via wifi. i hate ads but i also hate paying for licenses...especially on browsers. thanks!
flash always works in miren for me when i set it to chrome desktop..
so far I have really like Opera Mobile - sometimes pages are a little off but I haven't had any major issues with it - I even like the way tabbed browsing works (I went to nVidia's site to be sure flash worked and it seemed fine to me)
I am an Opera fan though and use it on my desktops to
have read a lot of good things about Dolphin HD tho I have never tried it

I take it, then, that they've added Flash support to Opera for Android. When I first got my Evo (last fall) I tried it and it didn't work. I settled on Skyfire. One thing to understand about it is that it is not a raw browsing experience. The page is pulled through their proxy servers which "process" it and deliver the content to your phone. One of the cool options is to view in-page videos through the proxy which optimizes them on-the-fly for mobile devices. I've even watched streaming live sports that way and it works great.

now this is something I do know about - that of which you speak is Opera Mini - that does proxy websites - I am not using that - I am using Opera Mobile (two different Opera's - they make 2 kinds of mobile browsers (mini has always been free - mobile used to cost but I didn't have to pay so it seems to be free now to)
Opera Mobile is a full browser and operates as the desktop version would with no proxy servers involved in reconfiguring the websites then forwarding them - it just pulls the data straight to the device

Stock vs Chrome Browser, your performance impressions

Hi everyone this is just a quick poll in regards to how your stock browser performs compared to Chrome (if you use it)
I'm not sure if this is just me or if everyone is experiencing this. I never really used the stock browser since right when I got my phone I installed Chrome, but lately its performance have been laggy on both my Transformer Prime and Galaxy Nexus..so I did a quick scrolling test.
1. browsed to www.engadget.com full desktop version
2. Wait for page to completely load
3. Scrolled up and down through the page.
I found Chrome even after the page was completely loaded continued to try the render images causing choppy scrolling while the stock was smooth.
Chrome belongs on the desktop, imo. Eye candy aside, it doesn't (imo) bring anything to the table, and is slower/fatter than stock.
I love stock not only cuz its smoother but it will open flawlessly any flash site lol..
Chrome looks good still need some work tho.. No flash support but hey keep in mind its still a beta..
So might get way better than stock or become a "safari like in apple" in the upcoming android versions
Galaxy Nexus AOKP m5 Franco kernel m3
Stock ftw.
...of the people, by the people, for the people...
I have noticed that the Chrome browser does seem to lag on the "heavy media" type sites...
Keep in mind though that it's based on the Google Chrome for Desktop code base, which in theory should be updated more frequently then the codebase for the stock browser...
Also, I believe it's been stated that it will never get Flash support (Officially...?)
Seems about the same to me. Admittedly I'm not a very heavy browser on my phone though. Few pages a day at most.
Chrome starts a bit slower but I find it's slightly faster going from one website to another. Stock browser remains the default as I want to keep Flash and full screen browsing.

Correct.
From Google: https://developers.google.com/chrome/mobile/docs/faq
From Adobe: http://blogs.adobe.com/flashplayer/2012/02/flash-chrome-for-android-beta.html
Chrome has lagged for me from day 1 since it released, while stock was always smooth. I've never understood all the people who see opposite. I just thought I lived in the twilight zone.
So your results are normal to me. Plus chrome runs a huge service that never closes and skews multitasking.
Plus stock has invert color option for all black web pages. And the quick controls on side of the screen. To me the stock browser pretty much destroys chrome in every way. I think chrome gets better html5 scores though.
I used to use the stock browser, but I recently switched over to Firefox Beta. Now, before you all say that Firefox is slow as hell, the current beta has a new UI that is actually pretty fast. Not as fast as stock is, but the fact that Firefox has addons more than makes up for that. Adblock Plus, and other addons are a must for me. Although I have AdAway to block ads globally, it does not get rid of the empty spaces inside webpages. Adblock Plus does this. I'm currently using FF as my main browser and stock as my backup browser.
I'm a big fan of Opera Mobile since WM6.1.
I like the start page with the thumbs/shortcuts. Stock doesn't have it.
I like that all the controls are at the bottom of the screen. Stock tab control is on the top which is not convenient to switch between tabs (and I'm using tabs a lot).
Go for Opera mobile!!
PS: I have no idea how slow/fast is Opera. Because I didn't compare it.
I have tried most of the browsers, they have beautiful features but they are not as fast as stock so i always return to stock after trying
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Chrome has potential but it is a resource hog just like on the PC and double-tap zoom bugs out a lot, and doesn't even work at all on images.
Stock still wins, unless you need to download a large file... Opera handles that much better.
-Sent via XDA Premium-
Chrome will never get flash because all new browsers are going to be using HTML5
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA
I think they both have similar performance (minus one not having flash). But I think chrome does some things better than the stock browser.
It handles tabs much better vs stock without quick controls. It will also zoom in with a little popup window if you press on two links which are close together so you can select the right one. Also, when pinch zooming the browser doesn't wait until you lift your fingers to render the rest of the page.
Some people may also prefer the fact that the nav bar is persistent in chrome.

Why not use the quick control on stock browser? It has a real great tab control, just slide and hold. And the quick control appears on any part of the screen you want.

Browser with text reflow other than opera?

Does anyone know one that works with Jelly Bean? I cant seem to find one Boat Browser worked with ICS but now on JB it just doesnt work anymore...
And i know opera does this, but i really dislike how opera scrolls through pages and how it sometimes doesnt display stuff correctly. So i'd like to avoid that browser
I have checked any other browser trying to find one that reflow like Opera to no avail.
Opera is the only one with auto reflow when you aply/change zoom and this is the reason why I use it since old good WinMo days...
I can't understand browsing without this feature and realy don't find any problem with last Opera version.
Sorry
well i see i guess i have to make due with chrome (does pretty good text alignment so you dont have to zoom at all) until CM10 gets stable, in vanilla android text reflow works with pretty much with every browser...
I guess samsung is coming out with their own browser

I love how opera reflows and scrolls.
"Smartphone is no longer a phone"
Sorry to revive this old thread, but based on the above I've been using Opera just because of the text reflow. I really don't like its method for switching between tabs/windows, though. I much prefer the tabs at the top like most other tabbed browsers. So, I've found I keep trying all the others again. Well, I just tried the updated Boat Browser today and found they have now fixed it to do text reflow in JB. It works great! I really like it MUCH better than Opera now. So, any of the rest of you wanting text reflow, might want to give BB a fresh try.

So when you zoom in on text in Dolphin it is reflowing (wrapping) the enlarged text for you so you dont have to scroll left-right? Just want to ensure you mean the same thing because I'm on stock JB as well and Dolphin Browser sure isn't doing that reflow for me. I like Dolphin otherwise, so if it could do this I'd be happy with it, but unfortunatly it doesn't.
why you don´t use stock browser?
it has an option to do that what you want.
I am currently using boat browser without any issues. Try it, they might have fixed it in latest update.

How? There is an "autofit" in the stick browser, but that just zooms to the full page. I don't believe it does text reflow.

Yes, when I zoom in on text, the enlarged text is wrapped and I can read without having to pan left or right. I have Dolphin Browser v9.0.1 (with Jetpack v1.0.1).. The user agent is set to desktop.

Cool! I hadn't heard of Dolpin Jetpack before. It does NOT reflow with just Dolphin, but I just installed Jetpack and sure enough that makes it reflow. Thanks for suggesting that!

Nice hint - I can confirm that with the given versions it used to work (even with the user agent set to Android rather than Dolphin), but at least since Dolphin 9.2.0 with Jetpack 2.0 it does not work anymore.
This is the aosp browser with working text reflow
Just remove the stock browser then reboot and install this as a normal app (Not system app)
For the text to reflow zoom and then double tap on the text
latest firefox has text reflow feature

I tried it out, but this browser does not provide text reflow (on my Samsung Galaxy Note2 running Android 4.1.1) either
I did select "Auto-fit pages" in the advanced settings and did try double-tapping as you wrote in your next post, but with no luck.

I can confirm that text reflow works with Boat Browser (after enabling the "Text wrapping" option in its settings).
In case anyone else also likes to revert Dolphin to version 9.0.3 and Jetpack 1.0.2 (the last versions with which I found reflow to work),
I attach the former as apk file, while attaching the latter apk file did not work for some technical reasons - even after zipping the file
to some 11.4 MB, I always get a strange error: "Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing".
Thus I now offer both for download at http://David.von-Oheimb.de/perlen/Android/Apps.html

[Q] Is anyone else experiencing Dolphin Browser locking up on Note 3?

Hey guys and gals,
I love Dolphin Browser and have been using it since I entered the world of Android with an S3 and then a Note 2. I switched to a Note 3 a few weeks ago and I've been having really strange issues with Dolphin. It's getting to the point where it's unusable. I've wiped cached, uninstalled, reinstalled, updated to latest Flash apk, so I've done all the troubleshooting I can think of. I'm hoping someone can help or at least tell me I'm not the only one experiencing this.
When I open Dolphin, I can click through one or two links. I don't know exactly what causes this, but soon after, I press a link and the browser freezes. I can open new tabs and zoom in an out of the tabs that are currently open, but the status bar does nothing, I cannot interact with any links/images/anything on the loaded pages, and nothing else loads. I have to close the app and wait at least 15 min, or wipe the cache and open the app again. Same thing happens every time.
It's extremely weird and very annoying. I love the app but will have to switch if I cannot fix this issue.
Has anyone else been experiencing this? Do you know how to fix it?

I use naked browser pro, aosp browser and chrome. Those are my favorites in that order.

I use Dolphin and I'm not seeing exactly what you are but it the browser is getting progressively annoying. What I'm seeing are pages taking forever to load. I click a link, the screen goes white...wait...wait....wait....get tired of waiting so I push 'stop' and then the page displays immediately. It's like it wants to pre-load the entire page before it shows anything at all, then it all comes up at once. Dolphin on my N4 recently developed this same behavior. If they don't get their stuff together I'll be ditching it.
My favorite browser by far and wide is Firefox. I used to use Dolphin before FF Mobile was stable enough for full time use but these days FF wipes the floor with Dolphin in terms of features. Firefox has an extensive addon collection for adblock, useragent switching, full screen, etc. plus it supports Flash Player and html5 videos perfectly. If you're not happy with stock and Chrome definitely try Firefox!

Laggy scrolling in browser

Is anyone else have problems when scrolling web pages? My phone laggs pretty much in browser. Sometimes less, sometimes more. Problem can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jttoOoC8k_Q#t=00m07s
Loaded page is http://m.monitor.hr, browser is android default browser (but same problem exists in Chrome).
it is probably a lot of advertisment content inside
in my G4 is same as you - laggy
Yeh, I've had lots of problems using chrome on some web pages. Seems to be advertising.
I'm now using Opera, which runs smoother for me.
@johnny8910
if you rooted already you can use adaway app
which is adblock - very pleasant function to me

It's totally smooth here using UCBrowser (rooted + adblocked of course) :good:
It's driving me crazy, especially because I'm using desktop browse agent. I desperately need root+adblock, tried the adblock plus without root solution didn't work well.
Tried that page on mine. it's as smooth as silk with no lag at all.

I have it installed and updated, but still get some issues.
Thanks for you replies guys.
It is true that page on video is loaded with adds, but by my old Samsung Galaxy S4 scrolls it without problems same as my 7" Alcatel tablet bought for less than 40€.
From your replies it seems that some of us have this issue and some not. I'm considering to ask for a replacement unit because I tried other unit in T-Mobile center and that one didn't have problems with laggy scrolling.
Will try to do a factory reset and test it again (shame because of lost time for settting it up).
Hard reset did not solve the problem I think I will try to get replacement tomorrow.

Sorry to necro this thread, but this link might help.
I can't post links, so just Google "10 speed hacks to make chrome faster"
Basically,
You can use chrome flags to give chrome access to more memory and other thing thing that help chrome scroll smoother. Just got the lg g4 and giving chrome 512 memory seemed to help.
Firefox is laggy in scrolling, also when rooted and adaway installed. Opera or Chromium is very smooth on my G4...
