[Q] What's Best Evo ROM For Gaming? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So far I've narrowed it down to CM7 RC2, CM6 Wimax Alpha, & Vaelpak 3.2 RC1 w 4.3.2 Netarchy BFS. Any suggestions?
Sent From My E\/o - \/aelpak 3.2

I would go with CM7 RC2/ latest nightly. Any would do really, and if you need extra oomf, ramp up your cpu usage just a bit.

Camera Touch Focus/ROM?

For my own personal needs, I need a video camera that can
focus when touched.
And the only rom I can do this on is Virtuous.
But battery life on Virtuous isn't as decent as Cyonagen.
I need a rom with Cyonagen battery life and Virtuous camera options.
And suggestions??

I get awesome battery life running Virtuous 0.9.5 and the Standard v2.1.1 kernel. What version of Virtuous and what kernel are you using? I don't need anything over 1.0 GHz, and not going over that gives me superb battery life without skimping on performance.

What version of the kernel are you running? The latest is 2.1.1. If you initially installed Virtuous 1.0.0 and upgraded to 1.0.1, I believe the kernel version is different. I'd recommend flashing the 2.1.1 standard kernel if that's not what is currently installed on your phone.
Do you have lots of widgets on your homescreens? Just not sure why you're not getting good battery life.

The question about porting the Sense camera to CM or other ROMs has been asked a bunch of times on these forums. It hasn't been done yet, that I know of. It would be great. The Sense camera is excellent, and just about the only thing I miss from the Sense ROM.

What rom and kernel/mod are you using on your evo and why?

Im currently running destroyer v2 rom with tiamat sbc kernel with viperboys scripts.
I like the custom screen transition smoothness and more

SalvageMod 1.2.1 Nightly #17 with the Tiamat 4.0.2 kernel and LauncherPro Plus. It is fast, stable, not bloated, 4G works, GPS works, camera works....heck, this is a very good rom. If I was using a sense based rom, it would be Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS-1 because it is classy, fast and just works...Period!

[Q] looking for an ultra-lightweight rom

what would you guys suggest? i mainly need battery life. all i would use it for is browsing the web, and listening to google music. 3g and wifi are a must and 4g would be great but not required.
i rarely use anything besides google music, power amp, and chandroid
suggestions?
Do you have a preference between AOSP and Sense?
AOSP - I'd give any of Decks ROMs a try here..
Sense - If light-weight is what you are looking for stay away from the new Sense 2.1 / 3.0 Ports.. MikFroyo is good here..
Hope this helps..
I'm using deck 1.2 and it seems pretty good on battery I'm running a tiamat kernel but I've heard that savagedzen is a lil better on battery life ... personally I haven't tried savagedzen cuz I don't like the SBC battery charging aspect of that kernel

im gonna give deck a try, thanks guys
Here Give this a try.
It's AOSP, about 88mb runs a tiamat sbc kernek, has working 3g and 4g. Lots of tweaks available and stable.
Very good battery life.
Flash the UD rom first, then the GPS fix and google apps (these are newer than the ones bundled with the rom) then the tiamat kernel. You can do them all together and as always wipe cache/dalvik and data first.
Enjoy

I'm using decks with sz kernel sbc and viperboys scipts
I also like miui
and for senseif you want sense 3.0/2.1 roms try out synergy or kingsrom
and for a normal sense 2.2 based roms try out myns warm 2.2 or konis
For lightweight, check my AOSP setup in my signature. The only difference is that I'm using the Godmode kernel, just testing it out and I'm liking it.

[Q] ROM + Kernel combo for good battery life?

What's a good ROM + Kernel combo for good battery life w/o sacrificing performance. Stupid question, I know.... Right now I'm running Synergy RSL1 & Freedom 0.8.5 set at 245-1.113. With 3.0 widgets and carousel. Not getting good battery life at all.
What are u guys running?

I have been thinking of trying out an AOSP ROM. Will Android widgets work on CM7? I was under the impression they would, just not Sense widgets....

You def should try an AOSP ROM. Lotsa goodies compared to Sense. Esp w the battery life.. Widgets made for AOSP works fine...

If you want to stick with a Sense ROM, try Synergy RLS1 + Freedom Kernel 0.8.5 Aggressive. This is a popular combination for Sense users and one that I am using now. My EVO has never run better.
I dont want to get into a Sense v. AOSP debate, but I dont see how AOSP has "lots of goodies" compared to sense. First of all, it all depends on the rom you are running as to what "goodies" any particular has. An AOSP rom by nature is a stripped down, bare bones Gingerbread ROM. I've personally found that moving to AOSP had MORE limitations in terms of features. More recently, ROMS like CM have added in missing features like 4G, etc. The old argument was that AOSP would always be faster. In real world use, with a good, optimized rom like Synergy or Warm 2.2 (soon 2.3) and a good kernel, you wont notice much speed difference at all.

evO²·³·³ *ROOTED*
EVOlvedROM r3chargeD RC1
DiRtY PoONSeNSe 2.3.3-1
V6 SuperCharged like OMGee
MIUI 1.8.26
Tiamat 3.3.7 SBC with ViperMOD (-75, 850) and getting the best battery life I've ever had with my Evo.
New to the ViperMOD movement, but glad I got in line.

Nothing against Sense.. just that, apparently, the dude hasn't tried AOSP. In particular, he was interested in battery life hence Vipermod which is AOSP based only...
I like most recent MikG and Koni's Elite series, of course.

I recommend using juice defender ultimate. Here are my specs:
Synergy RLS1
More freedom kernel
Min 128, max 1190, max idle 384
Interactivex setting
I get 15 hours off the charger with 10 hours and 10 minutes awake time, moderate use.
High use I get about 9 hours and 27 mins.
All of this with regular texts/emails coming in with no slowdown.
And I listen to music on it for about 2 hours straight.

Well.... Yeatarday, I flashed r3chargeD, didn't reinstall setCPU or anything, I'm on 14 hours of battery and still at 71%. Running as smooth as you could want. At first I installed setCPU and my phone started bootlooping.... I reflashed w/o and it seems perfect.... I did partition SD, also.
If I did want to try an AOSP, What's better, CM7 or MIUI?

I just came from synergy rls1 and it drained my battery. I tried it with GM kernel, Freedom (univ.), and chopsuey, none of which helped. Had some lag also. I just liked synergy so much because of all the themes and Mods.
I think I've found the ONE! I'm going to try it for a few days and see how it works....

If you use r3charg3d RLS1-ish, then you don't need to use SetCPU. If you use the kernel that comes with it, it has a overclock/underclock daemon that overclocks to 1.2ghz (1190400mhz) when screen is on and underclocks when screen is off to 245mhz
Flash the updated a2sd with it whenever you do a fresh ROM install, found here. You will have to install apps fresh from Market (no Titanium)
My battery will refuse to die no matter what. Two days running on medium usage and still going, maybe 20% left. Oh, I use Juice Defender Ultimate with Agressive settings.

Should I partition my SD card again when I install?

If you have partitioned your SD card before, you do not need re-partition again unless you deleted the partition.
I don't understand when you say "disable setcpu". If you use the stock kernel, you do not need to install SetCPU at all.

I have setCPU installed now. Instead of uninstalling, I was wondering if I could just disable it to see if r3chargeD would run smoother w/o it. For some reason it switches governors on me. Like now I have it set to ondemand with about 4 profiles. I might notice some lag, check it, and will be on smartass (with profiles still enabled). Very weird, dude!

most stable kernel?

I will be flashing the updated acemod (which people have been saying the new kernel that is used in it is not too stable)and want to flash the most stable kernel. I will take stability over speed if that trade-off is needed
Any suggestions?
All the updates snq- releases are very stable
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
yeah check out snq kernels all very good thread on here somewhere
you can give thalamus kernels a try.
ManU 2.0 is great too
Swyped from my CM7.1 Desire using XDA Premium App
bananacakes 6c/6d I found stable too
bananacakes 0.7e works with no problems for me. If you're looking for battery life over speed try tristans bfs kernel, a little laggy but better battery life.
snq- makes very good kernels from what I heard.
ManU's and thalamus' kernel are only for AOSP roms and cannot be used with AceSMod (sense rom).
SwiftKeyed from dGB using Transparent XDA App
Gingercakes 0.7f bfs works fine,no lag and restarts.
snq- makes very good kernel, but the recent builds become unstable.
Now I am using tristan202's. Fast and stable.
i am trying bananacakes 0.7g cfs with no 2way recording at the moment - so far so good.
had a couple of reboots while charging with 6d
