[Q] Anyone know where the Sprint ID packs are installed? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was avoiding sprint id but broke down and tried it out. It was pretty nice for about 30 minutes but then I got bored of it. But I do like some of the wallpapers and ringtones. I would like to pull just what I want out and get rid of sprint id again. Does anyone know where the files are stored? I dug around a bit but have not been able to find them.
Edit: And yes I know I can uninstall all parts of the packs that I don't like but I still prefer to have it clean without using sprint id.

Well you could delete system/app/W_Installer with a root explorer type tool. However, that doesn't get rid of the files. If you made a system backup prior to installing Sprint ID then you could delete the appropriate files that aren't backed up (new files)
Having gone through this when I was testing the Bonsai 4.0.0 beta, the easiest solution is to odin.

Just like top nurse said if you open up the rom before you flash it and delete the apk that top nurse gave out it wont install sprint id.

the only way to fully get rid of the awsome sprint id is to revert back to another rom such as ec05 or di18. Otherwise the Applications manager will not let you uninstall the sprint id. After all Sprint worked really hard to port it to this device and if sprint deems it as the defacto standard, then it is. Sprint overlords, will not be pleased if you remove it... . they know who uses it and who does not, just like att and how they can tell who tethers with rooted devices. I would not be surprised if att either sends out notices next to rooted users that says you are rooted and in violation of your contract, please purchase a new phone that is fully locked down including the bootloader and all.... for full price....

Thank you for the answers but I know what to do to get rid of it. I am asking where the wallpapers and ringtones are stored in the file system. I am looking to pull out the ones I want before I remove it.

I was just poking around looking for this but haven't found it yet. I'd also like to grab a couple of the apps if anyone has figured that out.

OK I finally got around to looking for these. Just in case anyone else wants to know.
APKs /data/app/
Ring-tones /data/data/com.sprint.w.installer/files/
Wallpapers /data/data/com.sprint.w.installer/files/wallpapers/

[Q] Themeing Market Apps on DK28

Has anyone had success themeing Market apps (just changing png files) with DK28? I have done it numerous times on DI18 with no problem. On DK28 the md5sum in changing and all apps are deleted off the handset. Anyone figure a technique around this?
This is directly a theming question, hence posted in the theme thread, if that's not cool report it to your mod no need in 50 post unless 50 post deal with theming market apps.

I've been able to theme market apps, XDA for one, and a few others I messed with all seemed ok to me, though I didn't keep them
Hit me on gtalk you might be able to shed some insight if you dont mind
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
i have absolutely no experience actually doing so but from what i have read, you can theme a market app but you have to put it in /system/app due to what you mentioned, i guess market apps all check their own md5 and if its different it bombs.
Thanks. I actually got it straight. I chose not to use the system folder because we dont need to hog the space if its not needed. The trick was to re sign the app, put it on the sd card, delete the app from the phone, and install via astro. Works as intended and pushed most of them to sd card after!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
thats actually really fricken great! hadnt heard that solution but yes, you obvioulsy dont want to hog /system like that. good to know

Why not just uninstall bloatware?

Everyone seems to always suggest downloading titanium backup and freezing everything instead of just deleting it. Why? We have plenty of evidence of the apps that it is safe to get rid of and the ones that ya better not. So why does it seem that people are worried about deleting them. I am not a NASCAR fan and I don't see myself becoming one so why not just get rid of the app completely? Am I missing something?
Safe from what I have been told and read to delete are :
Blockbuster
Kindle
Amazon mp3
NOVA
Sprint TV
NASCAR
Sprint Football
Sprint Hotspot
Sprint Navigation
Personal preference, if you don't want them, delete away.
I would say from your list that you are right as long as you have a nandroid backup to restore. I have had my Evo start acting weird after I uninstalled some bloat ware so I restored the nandroid and just froze the apps instead. After CM7 final came out I dropped the stock rom, still have a backup, installed the Cyan goodness and have no plans of going back other than install new radio updates. The main benefit to uninstalling them is to free up space. The choice is yours.
Why waste time deleting them? They are installed to /system, so freeing that up doesn't free up the /data partition.

I'm confused , elaborate for me please.
Everyone is not experienced at flashing and tinkering with their devices. Think about it. A lot of people do things to their devices and when they've messed something up, they post here looking for help without stating what they have already done. Telling people to freeze the stuff they don't want is just a safeguard. Those of us who are a bit more experienced will go beyond TB. I hope that made sense.

That was all I was trying to get across was that if you are new to rooting and deleting/changing system files then you are better off just freezing the apps. It is normally safe but most people try to change something before they realize what they are doing, and don't have or know of a way to fix it. If a person wants to uninstall an app by all means go ahead that is one of the main reason for rooting your phone. It also makes it a lot easier to help them fix it if they know what they did.

I've also heard people use the reasoning that if you uninstall system apps you cannot accept an ota, so they freeze them. This way if they want to update, they can just defrost and accept.
I don't understand wanting to accept an OTA, but I also don't understand staying on the stock rom when there are so many great devs making awesome roms.
But people like what they like, I guess you can't knock that.
Hey there are 3 different people from NC in this thread.

I thought about staying with the stock rom at first then I saw what I am missing. I love running CM7 and I have tried others. The main thing for me is that I'm now running Android 2.3.3 which has several features that I wanted and got tired of waiting on Sprint. Don't get me wrong I will stay with Sprint and they have one of the better update records but when Android 2.4 is coming fast and I am stuck on 2.2 with 2.3.3 what seems to be everywhere else. I can't stand that. I only hope that the HTC Evo 3D will get rooted because I plan on getting it as soon as it comes out. I was the first person at the Greensboro Besy Buy that got the Evo 4g and I will do it again.

I worked on this for a wee bit last night. Seems I will have to do something more than grab the apk and odex files and stick them in the system/app folder. Also, both roms are squeezing their limit on system space. Perhaps a reason why they are not included. I killed tye loggers and widgets and made room, threw the files in and cooked, but when it came out they aren't showing on the menu. Perhaps its a permission problem; it got late quick last night/this morning. I will take anothet look.

Here are the files (apk & odex) pulled from my Tmobile US.
FriendStreamWidget
TwitterWidget
Flickr
FriendStream
HtcFacebook
HtcFMRadio
HtcTwitter
I put them in a CWM flashable file. Hope they work for you.
Do not forget to clear your Dalvik and cache files.
thanks
The thought occurred to me last night... Why don't I steal the system files from the euro [newest] build, replace what I must [see xda article on 6 easy steps to porting sense], and recook and voila only really porting from gsm to cdma not phone models; so, it shouldn't be too buggy. Until I get it built though, this flash might work. Can't test today but will later.

[Q] How do I delete EVO 4G Built-In apps?

Folks, I am a noob. Please help me. I want to delete the built-in apps on my phone such as NASCAR, Facebook, Qik, etc.; so I hear I need to root my phone.
I have read a lot about rooting EVO 4G here and elsewhere, but I haven't a clue about what to expect. I want to root my phone, have it still look and work like it does now except I want the ability to delete all this crap that is using up all my space.
I do not want to brick it either.
I do not really want new ROMs or radios or illegal tethering or anything else; I just want to delete the built-in apps that are currently undeleteable on my HTC EVO 4G. This is the original HTC EVO 4G, not the new one.
So, if I root my phone, will it still boot up the same way as it does now? I am worried about all these weird command line entries needed to do things that I really don't understand.
If someone would, please have mercy on me and explain in clear terms what I have to do to delete the built-in apps on my phone.
Thanks!

Root your phone, and PM me. Ill give you a step-by-step on how to delete that bloatware crap. Thanks. - Kyler
and yes, itll boot up the exact same way, unless you change the bootanimation or somehow the bootani gets deleted in data/local
If you are rooted, you can use Titanium Backup. Just open it and hit menu>batch>scroll down to in-install all system and user apps>select it>hit de-select all>scroll through and hit the check mark on all the apps you want removed>hit run at the top.

Not unless the devs include these apps in their rom. And after 8 months of constant flashing on a weekly basis, I haven't seen ANYONE who actually likes any of these apps enough to keep one. Neither have I seen threads requesting for those apps to be posted.

Sprint Direct Connect Now APK Released

Sprint made a formal announcement today about the new Sprint Direct Connect Now App in the android market which can be found here
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.qualcomm.qchat.dlc&feature=search_result
Anyone seen this APK floating around online? I would love to give this a whirl on my device and see if its possible to get it working on our devices.
I couldn't find anything but I will keep an eye on it and if I find it I will post it if someone didn't already.

Yeah ive been scouring google for anything pertaining to an updated apk but everything I found just links me to old threads and the play store link. We dont have a kyocera rise in stock so I cant pull it myself.
Ill try to go into a Sprint store and see if i can download and then extract the apk file. Hope it works on our android devices =). Doesn't make any sense for Sprint to release this app only to the Kyocera Rise. It's an android app, should be compatible with all android phones. Stupid Sprint! Been waiting for this for years!

According to sprint a Direct Connect SOC has to be added to an account before you can use it. Not sure if this will be an issue with adding the SOC to a non supported device. I would like to have the application and then add the SOC to my account to further test

Since its a downloadable app from the market you could easily pull the apk. No need for root. Ill grab it when I get back to work around 6. Or you could pull the build.prop and change your device fingerprint to the rise to download the apk. I tried searching for a system dump for the build.prop but came up dry.

Yes I am aware of this but I have that issue alot with many apps because its not listing the device as compatible. Doesnt mean that it may not work. I have this issue with some apps so I install it on a compatible device and pull it to install on the "incompatible" device.

hmm so this would be free for me. i have a sprint everything plan and under my account i see:
Unltd Nationwide Direct Connect
Unlimited Group Connect
funny how it's included, but a feature i can't use.. anyone have APK working yet? wonder if you would have to keep the app always running (battery killer) for people to PTT you? hope it's not like zello where you have to be logged in and app running 24/7 rather than some type of Push service.
Sorry I was unable to get the apk today. The sprint store did not have a working display of the Kyocera rise. I will try another store tomorrow.
Im very interestes in getting this working. Hopefully someone can provide this apk asap. Thank you in advance to whomever does.

From what I've seen / read it there is something extra on the Rise and the LG that has the App. Also the SOC is restricted to the two phones so even if you got the app to load it would have no UFMI (or w/e the SDC equilivant is) to tie into, or attempt to provision on it. Thus no Go I think if it worked on other phones, it would be out
Try downloading it with appbrain

If it is a Play Store installable then it may have APK go directly to Data/App which u cannot view directly from the device. If it goes to System/App u can always browser through System/App folder and actually copy ANYTHING from the System folder to another location on the device. Pasting and editing is what u cant do inside of the System folder but copying allowed.
