Converting back to stock HTC Sense. (unroot?) - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been searching the Incredible forums for insight on this and can't seem to find the thread from last summer.
I just upgraded the Thunderbolt and I'm giving my mother my D-Inc. How do I get it back to stock?

NM, just found it.... SORRY!

No options yet. BTW, this belongs in the Q&A forum. If you had looked there, you would've seen the sticky thread at the top which says there is no way to root 2.2 yet.

Options-
You have two options.
Wait for a developer to gain root on 2.2.
or
Figure out how to do it yourself then come back and post in the "EVO 4G Android Development" section and post away.
I think one person was enough to get the message across. Smh

I was in Radio Shack where I got my phone and the manager told me that none of her EVO's had been shipped with 2.2 yet. This was just 2 days ago also.
Picked up two at the sprint store yesterday and they both had 2.2 pre installed.

I had a new one from RS about 2 weeks ago and it did NOT have 2.2 but manager tried to install it, I said HELL No!! Sent it back due to hardware issue. This time I went through Sprint CSR and the rep said he is sending me a brand new one. HE him self said, "dont do the 2.2 upgrade, it kills your battery." I hope it comes with 2.1
Im getting mine delivered today from an insurance claim i had made thru asurion the insurance company and they were out of stock on them for about 5-7 days and they finally got one and its being delierved today, I have my fingers crossed that it does not have 2.2 preinstalled!!!!!!

Then you talked to an idiot. If anything, 2.2 will improve battery life, but only if you use reasonable options, and even then the difference (either way) won't be dramatic.

I'm sure at Asurion's refurb depots they flash the newest version, its just what they do. That being said, at MY Sprint office, we have never had a NEW EVO come in with 2.2 pre-installed.
Yea I was one of the lucky ones that assurion sent me an evo with 2.2 preinstalled, is there ANY WAY that even sprint could downgrade 2.2 to 2.1

Ive been on the phone with Sprint technical support multiple times and their answer is no, they can not revert the phone to 2.1. I also went and talked to the repair guys at my local Sprint store and they also said there is no way for them to revert. I have decided I will be patient and wait for the Devs to root 2.2, I am confident they will do it soon.

From what I've read, the stock HTC Froyo kernel is terrible for battery life. Worse than the stock 2.1 kernel. The custom Froyo kernels significantly improve battery life. I have no actual experience with Stock Froyo though.

[Q] Picking up White Evo 4G tomorrow...question

Hi guys, I've been apart of this forum for a short while, and i've been using an HTC Aria. I decided to finally upgrade and i'm getting a white HTC Evo tomorrow at a great deal $99.99 with a new contract from Sprint.
A member in my family has the black evo and told me that you must downgrade the white evo to 2.1 in order to root it to 2.2
I did some searching and it seems that it is not the case. I was wondering if I could get some feedback from members with the white evo and what the best method is to root that phone. If anyone could confirm as well that there should be no issue rooting a white evo.
Thanks for your time and I hope to be of service in this part of the forum in the future.
-Mike
Thats not the case at all. You can certainly root 2.2. And it has nothing to do with the phone being white or black, they are both exactly the same phone, just different paint.
You are likely to be on HBoot 2.02 or possibly even 2.10. This is the thread you want to check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
Read through it carefully before doing anything, it should have all the information you need.
You'll be on HBoot 2.02 and either HW 0003 or 0004. Sprint doesn't sell a lot of white EVOs, so they sit around longer. I know I got mine last week, and it was 0003. My replacement was a Nova screened 0004.
Picked my phone up this morning. It is running HW version 3.0 Going to search for the best root and rom, I want one with optimal battery life as i'm sure at least 90% of users who root their evos do!

[Q] DMUpdater on HTC Evo?

I'm still new to both the boards and my HTC Evo 4G.
I've read a hundred times over that we still can't root GingerBread, nor can we roll it back to 2.2.
So to keep busy, i'm reading as much as i can and googling all over and came across an older app called DMUpdater.
Reportedly this app did let you roll back from 2.2 to 2.1, but not for the HTC Evo. So do you think it can be done on the Evo as well? Or completely SOL with S-On?
EDIT: As I keep reading, I don't think it will work, but maybe some one out there will find a way someday!

[Q] I hope I am able to get a answer to this....

I hope I am able to get a answer to this. I have glanced over the past threads before I posted but did not find my answer. If I missed it, I am sorry, I have ADD.
One of my co workers liked my theme so much that he decided to root his Incredible 2 but he was so excited to have my theme/rom, he forgot to backup his stock verizon rom. Now he needs to take his phone back for repair for other reasons. My question is, Can I install MY verizon rom backup on his phone?
If so, how do I do it and can you please tell me in simple step by step in english or if not, what should he do?
Thank you very much everyone that reads and helps me on this matter
If this matters, the stock rom was Gingerbread (OTA).

I am assuming you have an Incredible 2 also? If so it might help to post in that forum as this is the forum for the Droid Incredible. If you do in fact have the original Incredible and he has the Incredible 2 then there is no way he can use your backup, the phones use different kernels. Best bet to get your friends phone back to stock would be to go to the Incredible 2 forums and see if they have a thread for restoring the phone back to stock.

Thank you for your answer, I am sorry I did not post that I had a Incredible 2 also.
I am going back home tomorrow from New York so I am going to have my co worker do all the searching, I really miss being home....
Restore from another device backup fails. Each device has a unique and distinct id number associated with it, and it is in every backup.

[Q] Power Button Issues

Hello all,
My power button has been super flaky.....it still works(ish), you just have to hammer it like a mofo to get it to turn on and off...I'm rooted, s-off, etc, etc.
What do I have to do to get back to stock, unroooted, s-on so that I can send it into verizion? I have an upgrade in May, and I'm jonesing for the Galaxy Nexus so is there any hope they'd bump my upgrade date forward for me to avoid the cost of sending me a new phone?
Thanks!
Mine does the same thing. I never really noticed until I rooted my moms inc2, but it puts mine to shame. Pretty sure the button is just lodged in there however you can't really do anything about it with out taking the phone apart.. I'm also not sure if it falls under a warranty replacement.. I'm curious to see where this goes..
[edit]
There is a guide to return to stock at rootwiki. I'd link it to you but I am on my phone lol. Just search their forum and you should find it
