[Q] What are the differences btwn Inc, EVO, and Z frameworks? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been wondering what the difference between the different ROM frameworks are. Only difference I've been able to discern was that Z roms get better Quadrant scores and have the potential to sport a 720p camera. Can anyone tell me if there are any advantages or disadvantages to running any of the 3 frameworks besides theme-ing?

I love re engineered z, its the most stable rom ive ever used and very fast. The camera is awesome. Dont know much else

The difference is what each phone brings to the table software-wise. If you like some of the software features of the Desire Z, use a rom with that framework. Same with the Evo. Or, if you want more of a stock experience without some of the limitations imposed by a ported ROM, the stick with a rom with Incredible framework.
Also, the 720p camcorder isn't unique to Z roms.

So what is unique about each phone software-wise?

Best overall ROM for Droid Inc.?

So I finally got my wipe to upgrade from her dumbphone to a smartphone (Droid Inc.) and I'm looking into what are the best ROMS available *if* she lets me hack her phone.
I'm new to this arena since I have a Droid X so I want to know from people's experiences what is the best ROM for the DInc? From doing a quick look through it seems like CyanogenMod 6, SkyRaider Sense or Redemptive rEVOlution might be possible candidates.
I know the CyanogenMod ROM is one of the big ones but I'd like to keep the Sense UI on her phone to make it as easy as possible to use for her (and I do like HTC's overlay.)
So any thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions?
Try out redemptive revolution 1.9. Good battery life and very stable.

I use SkyRaider 3.3.2 with LauncherPro Plus and GOTO as a lock screen and have no problems. I too love HTC Sense, just decided to play with LPP.
Heads up: There's a "General" Incredible subforum for these sorts of posts.
*make sure you know what version of the dinc she has, amoled or slcd, some roms and recovery won't work without fixes* that said redemption rom is currently my fave, otherwise virtuous rom. theres also red raven and feather but wouldn't recommend those for your wife. I believe theres a rom that sum1 made with a pink theme somewheres also but don't quote me on that. if you do any of these look for the new leaked stock kernel, has a lot better battery life and charges in half the time.

I love Cyanogen, if you're looking for Vanilla ROM this is a great choice. I'm using CM6.0.2 right now and I love it. CM6.1 RC1 should be dropping very soon, it's not 100% stable but Cyanogen himself it could be used as your daily driver

I'd stay away from the Desire HD and Z ports until the camera issues are resolved.
I'm using redemptive revolution 1.9 and loving it right now. It just got updated with new framework so its the latest and greatest in my book!
I love the Desire Z port from IncredibleDoes but some people need the camera or would like to have the cam, if that's the case try SkyRaider 3.3.2 its the best one out there for me.
Uncommon Sense
I will stick with Uncommon Sense Rom, its the most Stable free bug HTC Incredible Rom, the feels is likely Sense OEM manufacturer, I did not find any lack at all with the exception of APk Drawer little lag scrolling up. as well is the best of the two world android/Sense blended.
All the rest of the HTC Incredible Rom have several problems that have to be address and for sure Updates will be available to Roms like Sky raider and Virtuous.
Most ROMs are good, but also aren't 100% done. To be honest, if you wife uses her phone a lot and isn't a tinkerer just keep it the way it is lol.
Once camera issues are resolved the desire ports will pretty much be in a league better than any of the custom roms based on earlier sense. I would also strongly recommend miui except that many of the really useful sense widgets have no equivalent ones in aosp roms. I would recommend aosp roms only for people who are ok with constantly tinkering with their phones, not for your wife who will probably want.something that just works.
Until then redemptive, virtuous, skyraider are good choices.

I have tried a bunch of Roms and all of them have their strong points. This is all a matter of personal preference.
That being said, I would recommend Virtuous with the custom kernel or new stock kernel and here are the reasons:
1. It is very stable and fast.
2. Good battery life.
3. Nothing is removed or modded that cannot be readded or turned back on using the tools the developer provided (Virtuous Buddy).
4. Great dev support.
This is not the only Rom I use, but it is definitely the only Rom I would put on my wifes phone.

Thread moved to Q&A.
I would say virtuous or the newest leaked deoxed stock ROM... both using the newest stock kernel.
Only roms I would consider for the girlfriend....
Personally I would just do a few mods to the newest stock ROM minus the bloat.

I switch between Redemption and Redemptive Revolution.
I like Redemption with Kings BFS #5 kernel the best, amazing battery life! It just "feels" good to me.
Wow nice! Thanks for all the recommendations! I don't think I've heard of Virtuous so I'll check that one out.
Also to commenton the tinkering part, she definitely isn't into tinkering...in fact she complains when I tinker with my phone for too long LOL
Going ASOP isn't really an option since the base Android UI is lacking without some extra apps so the Sense UI is perfect for her. I do plan on (obviously) rooting the phone and setting up SetCPU but any additional improvements custom ROMS make are always nice to have.

[Q] are there any seriou differences in HD roms?

after tryin every hd rom cept cool hd ive noticed there no reaal difference other then kernels and maybe afew removed features. is there anything significantly different im not seeing?
No, there's only so much you can do with a ROM...this is why I make my own
Same with all ROMs tbh
How can you not notice a difference?
The new version of Sense is stunning. That was the seller for me.
Been using an Hd Rom for a while now, but its really starting to slow down.
I'm considering going gingerbread

That's quite a transition tbh, going from Sense 2.0 to a non sense ROM.

What's the benefit for using an ICS over GB rom?

I'm using Android Revolution HD 7.0.2, and that's on GB. There's loads of work on ICS roms, but why are there if they have lots of bugs? I'm intrigued but don't think it's worth waiting for the official release. Views? What are the benefits if I switched to a ICS rom?

well you can look at videos of it and see how its different. The capabilities of the phone are better, there are more options to modify the phone. Also sense 4.0 and ics 4.0 roms are very well integrated. Here is the best one so far with sense 4.0

Advice?

I have a rooted HTC evo 4g. Should I install any custom roms or is it better to stick with my stock rom? Currently I am running android 2.3.3.
If you're looking for stockish roms, swagged out Rom is good, mikg is great as well. Any custom Rom will give you better performance and battery life over stock.

Have you seen any features of other phones that you love?
Do you not like Sense that much?
Would you like to try something completely different?
Would you like a bit of an iOs feel?
Do you want to over clock, or under clock your processor?
Do you like the stock experience but want it cleaner and more optimized?
Do you want to experience ICS?
Each one of these has it's own ROM/'s that would suit that need.

Thanks for the reply.
I like Sense, but currently running 2.0, so I would like to upgrade that to 3.0 if possible?
Pretty much like the stock experience but want it cleaner and more optimized. I want wifi and 4g to work if possible. If not, at least wifi.
You want MikG 3.11 just search it. You will be redirected to his forum, there are more themes and mods there they even have their own app so you can keep up to date.

ICS question please

Hi !
If I buy a HTC Desire HD and install a ICS custom rom , would the camera be like in the official ICS or would it be like other ICS based roms like lets say in Samsung Galaxy which usually always show errors and camera very bad with almost no options or in fact very limited.
Please advice me if the ICS in HTC Desire HD is worth it.
Thanks !
look, sense 4 roms have a realy badass camera, but the rom is too chalenging for dhd, if you nkow how to tweak it it will work nice. sense 3.6 roms also dont have a bad camera. i recommend virtous affinity

Only sense roms have the capability to utilize the HTC camera. Anything without sense will have a crappy camera.

Even still, the camera in custom ROM's still takes some pretty good pictures.

That's what I mean. Custom or factory. As long as it has the sense camera it will utilize the high quality HTC camera. Aosp and miui just don't have the ability to run sense apk's because you have to have the sense framework for it to work. I just can't do any non sense roms for this reason. Seems like a waste if you ask me. People buy HTC for sense anyways, otherwise your probably better off getting a Samsung or Motorola. JM2C.
