EC05 Modem & Airave problems? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone with a airave and running the EC05 modem having problems? I use to have great signal in my home with the airave on EB13 modem. Now, on EC05, its hit or miss. I can be 5 feet from the airave and have zero, or one bar. then, sometimes the signal is fine. Data connection isn't the same as it was also(speed has never been high of coarse, but at least it was consistent). Away from the house, signal and data have no issues.
I have un, and replugged airave to no help.
thanks

I should be getting my airave soon... I'll let you know
If it causes me issues at least I'll know to downgrade to EB13 ^_^
Thanks for the heads up!

Did you try dialing *99 and hitting send? you should get a repeating voice that says you are now on airave.
I think sprint's network is just unstable ATM and it could effect airaves as well as PRL updates.
I doubt the last two modems (eb13 & ec05) are to blame.
Have you tested with other phones?
I don't have my airave hooked up, but I've run speed test with two epics and an LG optimus S over 3g (full bar area) and the results are the same. (low to sub 100's and occasionally normal 3g speeds)
Edit: Tested the airave. Full signal, low 100Kb's.
An EVO bud of mine said the network is acting up in his area as well.

Well I've had my airave for a week now but sprint won't activate it... They say that the original airave is incompatible with the Epic 4g and I need to upgrade it to a airave 2... Whatever... Talking to my rep to see what's gonna happen, but it might be a while...
Meanwhile according to sprint I'm in the "excellent" coverage for 4g, 3g, and voice... Doesn't stop my phone from getting -101db 3g and non-existent mythical 4g... Have to try 3-4 times to get a call out... Never get a call in, always goes straight to voice mail... And texts delayed 3-4 hours...

I've had the most current Airave for over 4 months now. I had so many problems with DK28's modem, but it's been working like a champ under EB13 and EC05. There's 2 gripes I've had with the Airave, though:
1. The IP address that it's pulling for internet services is located 90 miles north of where I'm physically at. Sprint said that that's the area they're pulling bandwidth for me and doesn't affect 911 services. After calling about 5 times about this, they finally patched me to the highest level tech manager that explained all of this to me. He said I was one of two people out of thousands to ask about this. It's nothing Sprint nor I can do about it, so I just leave my house to use Google's location services and then it works correctly.
2. The three beeps before making a call is slightly annoying, but I know it's going through the Airave.
Other than that, it works like a champ, I get full bars, good 3G speeds, and I'm very happy with my Sprint service!

Be mindful that it IS going through your internet service provider. That might be the culprit. Check your cable modem/router/or whatever you have it plugged into or call your ISP to see if there's any outages or problems in your area.
There's no one switch solution to your problem I can think of off the top of my head.

[Q] 3g everythere but at home????

I have a problem with my Tmobile g2 running 2.2, it is all stock no modifications whatsoever other than handcent and fancy widget.
The problem is I can not connect to 3g or hsdpa network when I am at home. By this I mean the cell tower that provides service when I am at home. I have txt and calling capabilites but I have no data whatsoever. I have to manually switch to 2g or edge to check email or use the browser. I have called tmobile and they keep telling me that the problem is with my phone, however when I am 2 or 3 miles from my house and it goes to any other tower on the planet everything works fine.
I have searched the g2 forum here but could find no answers. I apologize in advance if this has been indeed covered or discussed to death and I have just failed to find it.
I did find the *#*#4636#*#* option and when it is on 2g I can run a ping test and it finds the server just fine, but on 3g it always fails to connect. Again this only occurs of course when I am sitting at home!
Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this or point me in the right direction because leaving it up to tmobile has proven to be fruitless.
It might also be worth mentioning that i replaced the sim card today as well, this too had no effect on this phenomenon.....
My mom's nexus s has the same problem. Only difference is that when i walk out the door i get 3g. Once i walk back in, I get edge...... I think its might be just tmobile frequencies poor ability to pentrate walls.
Sounds like a problem with the 3G network in your area, or just a weak signal there.
I know its not the signal strength, I always have full bars at home Its something to do with the network....

Full bars on 3G or 2G ? If you have full bars on 3G then it sounds like a network problem.
I have the exact same problem, but my building is probably over 100 years old with 300 coats of lead paint on it. It depends on your building. Signals can bounce off of mirrors for example and other materials. The more material the signal has to go through, the more attenuation happens.
I have a similar problem, my G2 can't maintain a consistent connection, I will go from 4 bars of HSPA+ to 4 bars of Edge to nothing (lost connection to network) and it will jump around wildly between these three states (every few minutes). My wife's MyTouch 4G doesn't do this, my G1 did not do this, our kids (dumb) phones have consistent connections.
I know it's some interaction between my phone and the TMO network, I'd say it was a defective phone except the only place it happens is inside my house.
I wish that TMO offered a microcell.
There is no reception problem, I have had the phone working here for awhile and it always has full bars, like I said I can hop in the car and drive a couple miles and it works just fine. Tmobile finally got back to me today and said they are having their Engineers troubleshoot the tower that provides service when I am home. I hope they get this fixed soon, they said 72 hours.......
It's that anti-cellphonereception chemical they put into paint!!

[Q] Finding a solution to a Sprint problem

Okay, I live in Louisville, KY. Lo and Behold, a month after I get Sprint service, it all goes to hell. We've had an outage that effects what totals up to be half the city.
Pretty much, if you happen to be in any of the areas affected you are left without reliable CDMA/EVDO coverage. Either you'll only get 2 bars that will go up to 4, even flash all 6 before crashing down to roaming, or you'll just stay in roaming, 0-1 bar of rare reception even while roaming. Irony? Cricket (which uses Sprint) works PERFECTLY. 5 bars in the same building and on the same curb. AT&T and Verizon too, both working just fine.
Sprint refuses to exchange the phone because when I'm near an Airwave (they sent me one which only works in my room, go to the kitchen and lose reception) I get all 6 bars. They claim that since I get full bars at the store, it's just part of the outage so they won't even think that I Might have a reception issue on top of the outage.
Anyway, to try and cut this long story short (too late)
I think I've tried just about everything. I've tried the EVDO hack with the PRLs and in the end I just kept getting good signal, and then 3G would die completely and never come back. 01337, 31337, 00001, none worked.
I've tried stock and MikG 2.2, fully updated radios and everything.
I've tried testing this in areas not effected and it seemed to work okay. Couldn't really stress test it on the network, but it seemed fine. I'm at a loss. Any suggestions?
If there's a known outage, I don't blame them for not exchanging the device. That would just needlessly generate exchanges for perfectly working devices.

Questions about an airave with the evo

Okay, during the past few months sprints network has been downhill in my home, seriously I get full bars of 3g during the day and at night I get full bars of no service and network is busy errors.
this is pissing me off, I was in the middle of an important call with a client and I got booted off the network.
tried all 5 of my evos and nada, signed up for skype quickly and I managed save my job.
This has happened a ton of times and my kids are always telling me about it, every time I call cs I am told its an outage and It will be fixed. But I am living in the most populated area of Puerto Rico, where every carrier has great service except sprint. heck tmo's EDGE network kicks the crap out of sprints 3g.
I could understand if I were in a rural area but damn I'm like surrounded by 3 sprint stores.
Anyways back on topic, would you guys recommend the sprint airave?I'm about to have call cs and ***** until I get this resolved.
My home internet speeds are 3.5mbdown/512kbps up.

I've never heard of a "network is busy error" before related to 3g.
3.5 mb down and you're complaining?
Um....
There's no "3g" on ANY network that gets that high.
It sounds like it's just an outage. How long have these errors been happening?
I meant my homes dsl speed for the airave(sprints been doing 100kbps for ages while on 3g), and the network busy error appears when I try to place a call.
this started around 2 months ago, once every two weeks, now its annoying as hell, when I was going to have my dsl installed the tech almost left because he couldn't reach me (sprint outage).
I just sent a text and got an error. SMS Error Radio Interface Resource Shortage Cause Code:64 Error Class:2

An Airave could solve the issues in your home since the Airave uses voip to make phone calls.
Do you know anyone else with Sprint, do they have the same issues?
My son is at college on the west coast of the island and hes fine been fine, he complains about it when hes home visiting us.
I'm calling cs tomorrow to see if I can get them to give me a free airave since thats what I've been reading on forums.
People with signal issues receive a free airave and have the monthly charges waived.

I'm sure they won't argue with you especially if it's an issue they admit.
this really blows, the funny thing is that their 4g is working... I can have data only but the signal reaches my home only in my bedroom with 1 bar.
I have 2 more calls to make and I'm not risking it with sprint, skype has been working great so far.
Does the airave give the phones in my home 3g data or is it voice and text only?

It uses your internet as the data connection and it uses your internet for voip [for texts and calls]

It gives u 3g data also. I had the same problem at my house. I called them and told them the problem they said I live in a red zone are and will send me an airave. Free also. I have a epic and it boosted my 3g to 1.3mbs download.

The airrave works great. I did notice an issue with Juicedefender though; it would not connect to the airrave even when forcing it to by dialing *99. Once I disabled juicedefender, it works great and much longer battery life for my device, assuming courtesy the airrave.
going to call tomorrow about it, from what I understand its some white samsung branded box right? I think I saw one at my local sprint store the last time I went there.
The new one I got about a week ago is made by Airvana or something. It is an unbranded white box (and kinda large sadly). It works just fine for both 3G and 1X (data/voice).
anyway, it was free when I complained about things getting worse. People on slickdeals saying you have to pay tax on it, about $1. I haven't had mine long enough to know.
I want this asap, I just finished my last two calls via skype and pulled the evo out of my pocket and the service is back....its 12am here now lol.
I get around 600kbs to 1.3m d/l on 3g and I ant complaining about that. But I would understand bad signal then you should reconsider getting the air wave thing.

[Q] Poor cell signal- often roaming

I've had the E4GT for less than 24hrs, and biggest issue is the less than splendid cell reception. Sitting in my living room i used to get 2-3 bars- this thing constantly throws into roaming. I updated my PRL, Profile, and Firmware. Didn't know what the latest PRL was that was out.
I know this thing has only been out a few days, so i understand some bugs. Is anyone else having signal issues where they didn't before?
I'm really trying rock this for a couple days stock before i root the hell out of it, lol.
Thanks for any input. Link me to resources if you like, i have no issues reading up on my own if this is a common issue.

Ditto! I even have an Air Rave and reception is poor.
I am running into the same situation. It keeps on switching between roaming and normal for no reason. I usually get pretty good reception in my room. It will sit there at about 2-3 bars reception, few minutes later its roaming. The phone hasn't been moved at all.
This happened to me 20 minutes after I got it on Friday but after a reboot it was fine. No problem since then. I assumed it was a network issue.
Same issue here, even with Airave (evo next to SG2 has better signal)
Huh, I'm getting better reception than my Evo 4G. The Epic Touch now works in my condo elevator at basement garage level where the Evo would consistently drop a call.
has anyone did a signal strength comparison instead of bars. they may have different values per bar on different phones.
Returns are warranted?

I wonder if there is a difference in radios or something. My experience tells me that this radio is finicky as heck, and I don't know why.
Is there a way to find out if Samsung used different parts or suppliers to make the Epic Touch?
I remember HTC doing this with their phones, and some would be fine, and some would not (different issue each phone, lol)
Mine was doing the same i switched the phone to only go on sprints network and has been fine. I rarely need true roaming but it would go into roaming even when sprint service was available.
I think Sprint may be doing network upgrades/maintenance. The same phenomenon occurs on my Epic 4G Touch and multiple Nexus S 4G's. I'll see signal jump from -106 dBm to -76 dBm and in some places go into roaming. Nothing to worry about as long as it works. They may be upgrading equipment to support EVDO rev B hopefully.
I get much better 4G reception on the E4GT than the NS4G, FWIW.
My signal isn't as good as my photon was better then my evo 3d. I usually don't roam much. Trust me when I say this, reception could be worse lol ill deal with it!!
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I hope the poor signal has to do with upgrading to EvDo RevB on Oct7
Thank God I am not alone. My cell reception too is finicky. In places my old evo (which my girl use now)have weak signal my epic touch would roam in and out. Sometimes it won't leave roaming even after I get to a known good reception area. Only a reboot would kick it back to sprint network. I read somewhere that calling sprint and having them reset my phone on their end might help. I am going to try this out as soon as I get home.

WiFi connection issues

I have numerous devices that I connect to my work WiFi, but for some reason my new Sprint Epic 4G Touch will not hold a connection to the WiFi. Sometimes it connects fine, other times it says "obtaining IP address".
Any thoughts or tips would be appreciated.
Thanks

WiFi
I believe he commented having problems with WIFI, which Sprint has no control over.
I have observed similar issues. It was exciting getting the phone to pop up on Spotify on my computer without doing anything, but shortly thereafter it seemed like the WIFI was not really working.
In my house, my Evo 3Ds have full bars when connecting to WIFI, and always works. Last night, on the E4gT, I had barely one bar (on the WIFI symbol) and I kept not being able to get emails. Then, I tried playing HBO Go and MAX Go, and I could only hear but not see anything. I got no error messages, except once got the "this is an audio only stream. For video, please get a better signal or connect to WIFI". I rechecked and I was connected to WIFI. I did a speedTest with Ookla, 22MBPS...Then I changed servers (in the Ookla program) and tried again. It went down to 400kbps.
The night before, both the WIFI and the 3G symbols were on at the same time. The 3G symbol didn't seem to be colored, so I figured it was on sleep mode, but then again, the speeds were slow so it could be WIFI was being screwy.
Can't guarantee there's something wrong with the WIFI, but it definitely felt like it had issues on my part. Whether that was connecting and looking for IP or something else, I'm not sure.
I'll keep an eye on the lookout for any answers to your issue.
Thanks for the response. Between the WiFi issue and a separate issue I am having with dropped signals, this phone may be heading back to Sprint.

Had the same problem, wifi signal with no color 3g on,when i went into wifi settings its always scaning...
I'm having lots of wifi issues as well. I had to lay my e4gt down right next to my dual-band e4200 to get a good signal, but even with a good signal, the phone sometimes pauses for minutes when trying to download or browse the web. And if the wifi signal is weak, I get no data transfer at all.
WoW, so far I have had no issues with wifi. Hell even Kies in wifi mode works good.
Normal wifi linked to my router works great.
Wifi direct works great
Kies in wifi mode works great.
I have never missed a email or txt msg. Streaming audio and video from the web is great, no stutter or issues to report. Grabing apps from the market is super fast.
I am with Time Warner and my internet speed is set to 15 meg down with burst to 30 meg down - I get a solid 15 meg down, 1 meg upload solid.
I am using both wired and wireless with my Linksys router.
It might help (statistically) if folks with/without wifi problems noted which signal was connecting (g/b/n/2.4ghz/5ghz/...)
3G instead of WIFI
I'm guessing you're into something there.
WIFI on, 3G icon shows => using 3G instead of WIFI.
I've also noticed those "minute" delays on using 4G. 4G gets up to 5 MBPS at my office. Evo 3D was getting up to 6.5MBPS. However, the wind could be blowing north instead of south, or a bird could have passed by the 4G signal path or...<insert silly remarks here>
Nonetheless, I get 4G. But even then, I'll open my mail to check a message and I'll have to wait for a minute and nothing will happen. Go back to inbox, then back to the message, nothing. Signal shows 4G on Zzz status as indicating that I'm not trying to use it (but is available). When it works, it's fast, but then it does not always work, which shows concern. So if we have problems with WiFi, and 4G, and 3G connection sucks, for a phone specially designed to be a multimedia monster...it's hard to stream without issues...
I'll be doing some more tests. 14 day return policy sucks, but have silly Best Buy protection plan, and I'm guessing they might still abide to their own 30 day return policy for Rewards members...
Now, I've heard of people complaining about complete crash of their radio, where there will be no signal whatsoever to make/receive calls, sms, data, etc. I haven't experienced these, and I'm still on stock, and I probably just jinxed myself too...sigh... But I wonder if the two issues are somehow related.
It could be software related, maybe need an update, or a better-than-original kernel, or who knows.
I did do the following changes:
RTSP Proxy Address changed to 0.0.0.0
RTSP Proxy Port to 0
HTTPPD Proxy Address to 0.0.0.0
HTTPPD Proxy Port to 0
But I still have same issues.
In the other hand, I can go to the HBOGo website and somewhat see videos (it's very cumbersome).

My Linksys router model = WRT54GL
Channel = channel 6 - 2.437 GHZ
Now how do you find out what signal I am connected with since I am using "mixed" wireless network mode.
Note in my wireless network mode I only have 4 settings -
a. disabled
b. mixed
c. B-only
d. G-only
So by the looks of it I can only do B and G modes on my Linksys router.
Well this is very interesting. I sat in the family room with my old epic 4g in one hand and my new e4gt in the other hand. epic 4g doesn't do 5ghz so I used 2.4ghz N for both phones. My epic 4g had 5 bars on wifi and my e4gt had 1 bar side by side. I ran a speed test on both phones. My epic 4g got 15mbs (15,000k) down and 3mbs (3000k) up. My e4gt got 1.5mbs (1500k) down and 1.5mbs (1500k) up. So, my new super phone is exactly 10 times slower on my home wifi, apparently due to very low signal. I tried my e4gt on 5ghz N as well, but it was even slower. Not good. I may have to return the e4gt and keep the old Epic 4g. I like the new phone, but the wifi and 3g signal issues won't work for me.
I wow, 10 times slower. Obviously this is a major flaw, but why isnt' everyone having the problem? I actually drained my battery yesterday trying to connect to WiFi

It would be great if others would test theirs and report back. Maybe I got a lemon and need to return it?
My problem with WiFi is it isn't switching from one channel to another. I have 3 wireless access points with the same SSID on 3 different channels. The phone locks onto the first one and never switches to a better signal unless the signal degrades to 0. All my other wireless devices will switch as I roam around the building.
Also, I've noticed that even if I am sitting next to the wireless access point, my signal meter never reads more than a 3 ^ symbols.

I just got a free Rave last month, service in my area sucked so bad they pretty much had no choice but to give me one, Maybe they stopped giving them out cause eventually everyone would have them. I'm in a non 4G city and my speeds are horrible, almost useless. Verizon's LTE looks mighty good right now...and the caps don't bother me cause I barely use 2 gigs a month. So a 5gig plan would be a good cushion...
But about the wifi, in my basement which is right below where I have my router I had one bar of wifi and it was SLOOOOOW. When I went right next to the router the speeds were top notch. Sometimes I like to sit outside and mess around on my phone, but I highly doubt the signal will even reach the phone through an Insulated wall if it has trouble going through a non insulated floor... My Epic 4G never had that Issue...

The change was just effective last week check out the sprintusers.com thread. They are cutting out all discounts prior to the iphone launch
Just out of curiosity....Could someone Use the speedtest.net and run a test on 3G no 4G and post back what their UPLOAD speed was. Mine is 75 kbps and that is way too slow...if others have this issue then I know it's messed up, but if it's mine, then I need to head to a sprint store...I started a thread about this, lots of people read it, but no one posted one comparison...a simple test and a simple reply....easy does it...thanks!
Is wifi supposed to say scanning the whole time?

Then it looks like I got one just in time then. Cause it helps so much, I can be anywhere in my house even in my basement and I have almost full bars. But ever since I got the E4GT I can't get the damn uploads to get past 100 kbps I seen other people don't have this problem...what gives? Is it possible to have a bug in mine that affects the upload speed?
