Hey Guys,
As of this morning my HTC Desire has been unable to load up to the SIM Pin screen. It is stuck on the "Telstra Next G" Logo Screen (Australian Phone Provider).
It has been playing up with over heating in the past 3 months although this morning after retrieving it from under my pillow it was extremely hot with the Logo Screen Hanging.
I rooted the HTC Desire with Unrevoked. I don't know anything about un-rooting and have searched for this similar problem with no solutions.
I CAN access the HBOOT screen. Details below:

When I try to go into the recovery option on the screen it just starts up my phone as it normally would, giving me the Logo Screen Hang once again.
Have I bricked my phone? Is this hardware related as the CPU has/continues to overheat?
Main question is, can I fix it if none of the above are applicable.
Help is greatly appreciated as this will save me a lot of money in the long run.
Have a great week,
Hiyoal
same problem, and..
I had the same problem yesterday, and now I can't even switch it on, it doesn't charge either..
I've also rooted my phone, if I go to the customer service there is any chance they can find out that I rooted my phone?
thanks for your answers!

if u have an official carrier rom you should be good. but if you have a hacked rom they will notice.d if u have a stock rom thats unbranded they will know. basically every rom except the rom that came with your phone you will get cought. if you can get into hboot, you can goto fastboot and use your proviers ruu to flash yopur stopck rom then send it in for repair and you should be good. to use the ruu, download it from shippedroms then turn your phone on by [power+back button] it will load into fastboot then start up the ruu on your pc. it should load your basic no root phone back to its original state. then send it in

Hey
I had loads of problems with my desire hanging so i decided to try and download the htc generic roms and run them!
RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.1_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121684
Also tried
RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121865
but they all hanged during the upgrade so now im totally stuck with a black screen or the White ruu screen saying:

Is there any way to save my desire or is it bricked? and should i send it to htc support? I should have warranty i hope since its merely 2 month old!
One more question, before i ran these roms i HAVE NOT rooted my desire! Do i have to do so? My desire is currently still UNROOTED! Could that be the reason why the rom upgrades are failing or is it possible to do them on unrooted desires?
Although i dont even know if its possible to root it in this state.....
Is your handset branded? If so, did you create a goldcard?
Exactly what state is your handset currently in? Does it boot to use as normal?
If I were you I would read THIS and root your phone. Then install any rom you want. There are official and custom roms galore in the dev section.
If you have tried to install an incorrect rom on the phone and messed it up then I doubt HTC would honour the warranty anyway so there is no fear in rooting it! The only known bricking issue on these phones has a fix now so you haven't lost anything.
My phone boots up to that RUU error message so it doesnt boot!
The problem was it stopped booting all of a sudden with the original rom! It just hanged at the White startup screen with the green HTC letters!
But i could enter the Fastboot, Recovery, etc... menu!
So with that i tried with the USB to download the generic original roms! But after they failed (both of them) now each time i boot i get the HTC blackscreen with the error triangle inside!
But i can still install new roms, through the usb but none of them can finish after like 80% so they can still connect to the phone from the computer through usb!
The phone is unbranded as in not connected to any operator like vodafone or such! and its not rooted either!
so u think i should try to root it?
If it is definitely unbranded then no goldcard is needed. I'd say you should go for it and try to root it. Just to confirm it's unbranded, it doesn't have any network operator software on it at all? No boot screen or any operator apps or anything?
You will need to check the link I gave you and follow the instructions religiously! It's actually a fairly painless process. I found the easiest was the tiny core linux method. You don't need any linux experience to use it as you just type in about 4 lines of text.
Failing that, if it simply never goes past the boot screen then no one will know you tried to root! So it would be a simple warranty return to the place you got it, and as far as you are concerned you got up one morning and the phone was off. You tried to turn it on and the rest is history! I told the carphone warehouse that and was given a new handset there and then, but was within my first 14 days of contract. It was a usb brick in my case and there was no fix for ir then. There is now though..
okay so im getting almost all the way on step 1!
except at the end of every push of files it says
FAILED (remote: 51 partition update fail)
anyone know any fix? also how do i know which bootloader i have 0,75 or 0,8 and which rom i have previously??
before everything i know i had android 2.1 .. is that my rom too? like 1.21?

To check your bootloader, switch the phone on by pressing the volume down button while pressing power. The second line of text will say HBOOT the number after that is your bootloader.
As for that error... No idea. Sorry!
dang... anyone got any ideas bout the error 51? and how to fix it?
try rooting with goldcard method
Also stuck with RUU USB
Did you get a resolution for this? I'm experiencing a bad time with RUU USB too. My phone started out as an unbranded Magic 32A from HK and seems to be a European now, as it only likes installing the European RUUs (and even then only goes as far as 36%)!
EDIT:
I've since had it repaired by HTC themselves. Their engineers couldn't fix it (allegedly) so they replaced the mobo.
Cost me HK$1500! F***!
Hi All,
I have a US Cellular BravoC and it being naughty. I have tried many different ROMS (stock, CM, Ethereal, MIUI) and all experience the same problem... If I use Google Navigator for 5 - 10 minutes the phone reboots. Sometimes during the reboot it gets "stuck" and enters a mode where the screen is black and the indicator LED flashs ~1 Hz. I have S-OFF with unrevoked-forever.
I am wondering if I am screwed? I purchased the phone about 5 months ago so I believe the warranty WOULD still be valid if it was S-OFF'd. If I felt like I had done something to cause this I wouldn't even bother trying to get it repaired, but this doesn't seem like something I did... it seems like a defective phone.
Any hints, tips, tricks that you could share with me?
Thanks,
Sam
It's probably that your phone will get to hot and then reboots. If you use navigator it will use the gps (obviously). So it uses more juice which will cause more heat. So yes it's probably a hardware problem. Do you have a PVT-1? That models are know for heat problems. Check in the bootloader.
I have noticed that the area below the battery (near the USB connection) gets quite warm before it reboots.
This is what I have on my bootloader screen:

MICROP-051e
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-2.05.10.08.11

So it looks like I have DVT-2?
I guess the big questions becomes: What is the best way to get this thing as close to stock as possible? I don't think I can do anything about the S-OFF, but I can use HTC sync and flash the 2.2 Stock update... I don't think that will replace the recovery though will it?
Thanks,
Sam
You should have known how to get rid of S-OFF before even doing it. Atleast in my opinion
Just run your stock ruu and you are S-ON again. And you also will be unrooted.
1. Boot into the bootloader.
2. Select fastboot.
3. Run the ruu.
Hi guys,
right now after hours of looking around for a thread helping me out... i need help of an expert. My history:
I was ending a telefone call normally when the DZ was freezing in that event. After some time i had to put out the battery, nothing else seemed to help. After that the desire z freezes while booting (HTC boot logo) in a boot loop.
technical facts:
Vision PVT Ship S-Off

Microp-0425
Radio 26.03.02.26_M
eMMC-boot

What i did to my phone:
After geeting my DZ i was rooting it with adb and one of the how-TOs of xda-dev. Everything was fine. Then i was installing cyanogenmod 7.0.3 through rom manager. Afterwards i tried MiUI. All was working fine for me until that event after finishing the call. CWM is not installed anymore due to a try to install the PC10IMG.zip from the rooting progress directly through the SD Card and hboot.
Updating from SD-Card also does not work. Fail-PU is more or less the only info i get from hboot. Also it gets stuck when updating radio V2. No reaction of the phone. Update from hboot is not finished normally.
I have no clue anymore...bricked?
Any suggestions helping me out are welcome.
Thanks in advance
Alex
There is a thread showing more or less the same behaviour

Are you sure CWM isn't installed? Try powering on while holding down the vol+down to get into the bootloader and selecting "recovery"; you may just have a bad recovery file.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Sounds like it could be a bad eMMC, there's more info on the problem here
If it is, you'll have to get a warranty replacement.

Hi OriginalGabriel,
when i choose recovery, there is the screen appearing shortly when the SD card is prepared. Then the phone gets dark and i need to pull the battery! At the end there was MiUI on the phone, which is, as far as i experienced, based on cyanogenmod.
There is another issue i try to understand:
I have no chance to connect with adb. I tried it on hboot but no chance. MyHTC is showing up at the device manager. I need to go back to s-on somehow, otherwise i have a problem.
Thanks for any hint.

First off I've browsed the forums and cannot find an answer to my question. I know there are similar posts but not entirely answering my question.
Originally my HTC desire was running on official firmware on orange UK. Then I decided to root. I installed LeeDroid and then recently switched to MIUI. All I want to know is if I can revert back to how it originally was when I first got the phone. I cannot find anywhere an orange UK ruu. Is there a different one I can safely use and how do I do it?
All I want is all the rooting stuff removed not necessarily meaning I want all of the orange branding and everything back how it was
I want to know this because soon I am selling my phone and want it to be pretty much how it should be.
I am getting the phone unlocked to work on any network as the recipient of the phone is using a different network hence me not being bothered about the orange branding
Any help would be absolutely brill.
Thanks in advance
Well If you want the Orange Branded stuff back, then you need an Orange Official RUU. But I can't help you where to find it.
The HTCdev.com 2.3.3 RUU still comes with warranty so flash that to unroot. There are no Orange RUU's
Do i just flash as i would a custom rom hence going into recovery and 'install zip from SD card'? Is it really that simple? Does that completely make it like it was never rooted?
No its an .exe you run from windows. Connectng the phone via USB. If you are not s-off with a hboot version of 6.x, it re-writes everything. if you HAVE got the custom hboot, you need to flash the alpharev downgare.img hboot first.
Thank you, I will try this in the afternoon, if I fail be expecting to hear back from me cheers again mate
I am currently running AlphaRev

However, when I try to enter recovery, I get a black screen with a picture of a phone with a red cross over it.
I am trying to revert to the stock bootloader to cure the recovery problem as I have already tried re-flashing CM7 but still get the same problem.
I tried to flash downgrade.img followed by the stock.img using Android Flasher but I can't get it to work.
Any suggestions?
You just need to fastboot flash the recovery.img
Have a read of my adb and fastboot faq in my signature. You dont need to read the adb stuff as it is not relevant

Awesome!
Android Flasher kept becoming non-responsive so I followed your instructions to flash via CMD. Now got CWM installed and working
cool. I prefer command line over the GUI myself anyway. Its more resiliant / less to go wrong.
To get rid of root simply install the latest, official RUU which can be found in the Dev Forums

I'm dead confused. If i'm honest I don't really understand what you have told me to do. ATM my Desire is running the MIUI rom (Latest version).

As stated before all I want to do is remove the 'rooted' stuff and put an offical version of android on (preferably the latest version - if not, doesn't matter) I really don't understand the steps to undertake to enable this to happen?
I tried downloading and installing 'HTC_Desire_Android_2.3_Upgrade' from the website you gave to me but had no success. the program just keeps saying connection error. I've tried everything but can only get the phone to connect to my PC in data storage mode?? seems to be a common problem with the MIUI rom.
If somebody could please help me step by step I will be so grateful. Getting kinda desperate now. Cheers

Have you tried this method?
This is a pretty good step-by-step guide to installing the HTC standard 2.3.3 Click me.
You can download the RUU for this here: Click me. It is the download at the top of the page.
Simply put your phone into fastboot (power on whilst holding the "back" button), plug your phone in, run the RUU programme and done!
Hope that helps.
Hello XDAer's...
I am a long long time reader, first time poster. I am of the mind that if I have a problem there has got to be someone on a forum that has had it too, and I work it out myself by reading the 100's of other solutions. It has served me well... until today. I've rooted a few phones in the past, including a DHD, but this time I've managed to get myself in a bit of a bind.
I ran the latest AceHack kit on a branded Vodaphone Australia Desire HD. I read the effen' manual but I'm sure I missed something. The process SEEMED to end on it's own accord ('press any key to exit'), though when the phone rebooted it loads the HTC logo... then fades to black. From what I've pieced together it has something to do with the screen type being SLCD and I'm running a version of recovery that doesn't support it? Just a guess.

Good news (as far as I can tell):
* I can use the SDK tools to run Fastboot
* I made a Goldcard (probably useless anyhow)
Bad news (apart from the obvious):
* I can't run ADB
I'm medium-n00b: I can work my way around most things, but this has me beaten after 6hrs of playing. From what I can tell most of my options require me to have S-Off, but I don't... and it's becoming apparent that I can't do this via Fastboot.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, and I will do my best to repay the favour forward.
Ryan

Well, I think, we are in a comparable situation. Exept you seems to have a goldcard - i think, i wrecked mine with formating it. :-(

It's kind of frustrating, because I'm sure, for a xda-pro, it is a thing of minutes, to get our DHD's back to life. I already tried for hours and don't even know, if there is a chance for rescue at all.
Good luck to us!

If you can somehow get your phone into fastboot, (don't know if u can still load up hboot), you can flash a stock ROM (thru USB cable). This worked for me to unroot my phone and put back to stock. It should work if you can get the right ROM, google stock roms and nav the site to your model (DHD is code named ace)
Hope this helped and good luck
EDIT : http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Ace << shipped ROM for DHD

hey, dont know if it will help, but i got stuck in a boot loop last night and i pulled the battery.
i couldnt get back into recovery by holding power and volume up or down, but when i restarted the phone by holding power button and volume up and down at the same time. this got me into bootloader, from there i was able to get to recovery and reload a nandroid backup...
If you flashed a good ROM and your stuck in hboot, use fastboot and use the following command 'fastboot oem boot' that should force your phone to boot.
