i dont think it will really be out until the last day they said it would the 24th of 2023....
i would not trust the current leaked ec05 as their as odin and rooting involved which will void your warranty. and att atleast can tell if you are rooted.
See above. I already have it. Though I suppose its possible that they have pulled it again.

So many posts say the Desire would be updated to froyo this weekend. Anyone really got the OTA upgrade? and how about the new version?
Thanks a lot.

LMAO i would laugh so much too, would be hilarious if like they were all lying and the update isn't actually coming out for another year!
people are so stupid, when they say this weekend, they dont mean 0.00 on saturday morning, just wait its gonna be within the next two days.
What's the differences between official froyo and the custom versions? Better battery life? Have been on sense froyo for ages.. Unless it increase the battery life otherwise can't see any point of being excited..

Official release of the OS is better simply because everything is working just fine... Or at least on 99% ...
The versions of Froyo for Desire are a leaked ones and even they work fine they have lots of issues to be fixed...
I'm not so experienced in Android OS but these are my visions on that problem. That's why I didn't root and install some of the cooked versions of Froyo for Desire and waited (... and still waiting) for the official release of 2.2 Froyo
Even though I'm a little bit reserved about that the Froyo will be rolled out this weekend I have some hope that it would become true and we, the Desire users, will taste the flavor of the frozen yogurt soon!
According to engadget the evo has now got froyo available to download from HTC

Let the Official 2.2 looking for Root access commence!
do you have to completely unroot the desire in order to get the OTA update notification? Or can I keep my rooted phone with a rooted stock rom in order to have the OTA update?
Yea evo got froyo. Just saw a video on youtube from androidcentral. They say its not final build

I got a notification for an OTA update couple of days ago, I didn't click on yes because I was afraid to lose my root. Anyone know what the update was about? And would I lose my root if I update?

Thats funny because it true!!
Also, be friendly with the development section, a rooted version of the new ota has been available almost as long as Stock.

I guess questions should be banned from this forum, since you can pretty much find anything on Google.
I suppose came straight to experts for answers was a bad idea.
Are troy talking about the 2.2 update from couple of months ago?
This update notification I only got it from about 2 days ago though.

There was a new OTA recently with the FPS unlock, and yes, chances are you will lose root if you download it.
You can download any one of the dozens of custom roms that are built on the new update or flash the rooted version of it

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate that.
Also might be worth mentioning that rumor has it that downloading the OTA's
from Sprint (2 in my case), and then flashing them separately is also possible.
However, there is still the risk of loosing root. But it's fairly trivial to regain it.
This is the method I'm going to attempt within the next couple of days.

So Monday I guess there is like a bug fix update to fix the netflix and phantom voice mail that most of us got with the gingerbread update. It annoyed me so much that I switched Roms and am loving my MikG 1.03 Rom. So I do want the netflix back. Will it show up as an ota update on custom Rom or do I wait and get it after someone has posted it as a zip or something.

I'm sure it'll be an OTA but you might as well wait for the rooted version to prevent an un-rootable situation.

I second that...avoid the OTA and the bloatware that comes with it
Those of us who remember the 2.2 OTA fiasco and the days of waiting some users had to do before it could be rooted will know that taking an OTA is, potentially, a trap. Most of the time, not so much, and maybe not even intentionally, but we all know it's possible.
Don't be a lemming. And certainly don't be the first lemming off the cliff.

2.2? The 2.3 update was just as bad, perhaps worse.
And yes, don't take the official OTA, wait for a rooted version of it.
case you missed it..

Unlikely. Their announcement was for all newly released devices from that point forward.
I just didn't know if it was going to be a simple tweak or if it would replace the whole operating system. I avoided the gingerbread OTA update so will be doing the same on Monday. Hopefully Tuesday I will be running netflix again.

Has anyone heard anything about this update? I am wondering if this may be my chance to gain root access by waiting for a rooted version?
I "heard" one person...ONE that says he/she got the OTA. I'm not buying it. Oh well...just waiting for the rooted update, if in fact the OTA even went out.
Can I haz Netflix?

Hello I'm new here and I would like to ask if I should wait for someone to root the 4.22.651.2 or I should just download the new its the 4.24 and forget about rooting my EVO
So the golden rule is of course never take OTA updates. However, I look at it this way. Your already unrooted, and if they find an exploit were still looking at several weeks before it's released so why not see what the new firmware brings.
Im guessin now that this latest OTA is released things may progress, but what the heck do I know.
I got the update this morning.
So what happened? Is this a whole new ROM or just a patch?
i SAW, AND AS SURE AS SNOT IS SLIPPERY, DID NOT INSTALL TILL I KNOW WHAT IT DOES
way to thread necro mate!
I just got of the phone with Sprint...yeah trying to get some credit on my account for LOS lol. And the lady just let me know that the EK02 update this will fix the LOS issue with the Epic Touch 4G will be pushed out starting Dec 7th through Dec 14th.
This update is also supposed to fix any 4G problems people have been having.
Just a heads up.
wouldn't be the worst thing if it was true and recently the call from the VP thread that such threads have happened.

Hopefully tar follows soon.
If not there will be a few unhappy around here screaming.
OTA is being pushed, Sprint says about 10 days for 100% of phones to be updated. I got mine yesterday so that gives me time to switch phones if in 14 days I'm not happy with this signal stuff.
Hey since you got the update from sprint can you please pull it and post it to the community?
