[Q] Personal Contact Information - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Quick Question: How does everyone handle themselves as a contact within their phone? I initially had a Google contact with my full name phone number email addresses etc. But I have done some reading and I have seen that some people create a contact called "me" and use that. The reason that I ask is in regards to joining/syncing your personal info with all applicable accounts (FB, Twitter, etc...) just wondering how everyone handles this. On previous phone I had there was a contact called "my contact" or "personal contact" etc...

Change contact location (SIM, Google, Phone) impossible ?

Is there any way to change the contact's "location" (SIM, Google, Phone) ?
I would like to get all my "Phone" contacts synchronized with Google, but i can' find any way how to change the setting from "Phone" to "Google".
I can't find any way to sync all the contacts (SIM+Google+Phone) with Google.
Is it a bug or do I missed somthing ?
Have you tried Contacts > Menu > Import/Export?
that doesn't work, I've tried. There are a few threads here asking exactly the same question.
All we'd like is to be able to put all the contact links we have from google, facebook, phone, phone, phone and phone for one contact to go under one contact, hopefully, the google one, to include all the relevant info from all the places like facebook. I don't believe anyone has said how this can be done yet.

Click to collapse
That's really not the same thing as what the OP was asking. Mind me asking why you want to change that, tho? It's only a horrifying mess in the edit contact screen, when viewing the contact I only see one entry (Name, phone, email, address, nickname, facebook profile).
Of course, when I hit edit I have
Google contact with phone, email
Google contact with another email
Google contact with phone, email, address, nickname
Facebook contact
It's all very derp.
I don't want to link all the contact accounts for one person (his twitter, phone, gmail accounts) together.
what i want is to move all the "Phone" contacts to "Google" contacts location.
Example: when I click on People->Menu->View, then i have
SIM 0
Google 41
Phone 123
contacts
I want to have 41+123= 164 Google contacts only.
because i want automatically backup contacts on Gmail (e.g. to be able to restore them after ROM flash)
When i click on individual contact, then i see "Phone" on the right upper corner of the contact screen. i want to see "google" there. But it's not editable. Its only linkable ...
When i restored my contacts using mybackup pro they all restored as google contacts as well as phone contacts, so then i just deleted all of my phone cntcts using a contact deleter app from the market.
Google contacts all the way!
The google contacts have the phone and facebook info combined so photo birthday and all that.
thanks for the tips.
unfortunately my myBackup trial has allready expired.
but i have exported all "Phone" contacts to a *.vcf file, then deleted all contacts and finally imported them from *.vcf into "Google" contacts.
hopefully it will not mess up after synchronization with google (which is running in this moment)
I recently kinda done this, I just exported all contacts, and then imported multiple rather than one or all, and when you import it asked you where you wish to save them, Gmail, phone or sim, This is the ONLY way I can see about doing this
It's probably the only way to do this and it worked for me.
problem solved.

Can't link "My Contact Card" to my own Google contact.

I've had a contact for myself in Gmail for years. This way I can just type my first name and email stuff to my work, or home, or whatever.
The People app lists a contact up at the top of the list with my name and calls it "My contact card". I would love to be able to link it to my normal Gmail contact but it doesn't give me any options to.
Is there any value to me duplicating all my info by hand into the "My contact card"? What does that even do for me?
It allows you to send "My Contact Card" to another person, which of course can also be done with your Google contact info. Oh and it also shows your picture in SMS and MMS chat threads. if there is anything else i cant think of it, maybe if you lost your phone somebody honest could contact you ....

Wil this be a problem that I forsee?

Hey guys, we all know windows phone 7's people hub integrates facebook with your contacts. However I can't quite see how it would be done.
Correct me if I'm wrong here. One problem I forsee is this - contact duplicates. Most of my facebook contacts do not even put up their mobile phones on their facebook profile. Now I have a separate list of contacts with just their names and mobile numbers(the traditional way of storing contacts). Could anyone explain to me how windows phone 7 will be able to integrate facebook contacts with such a list of contacts? Every phone allow us to name a contact with an attached number/s, versus facebook contacts whose names are named by them. It would be convenient if we could search for through our contacts by the names on our own list of contacts we've created, rather than fake names given by our facebook contacts. As such wouldn't we face a problem of contact duplicates? And even if windows phone 7 gave us an option to integrate the two separate contact's information into one, wouldn't we have to do that for almost every single contact?
Could someone clarify on this issue?
WP7 will let you link contact information from multiple sources to one contact card.

[Q] Attaching a contact to a calendar appointment

Does anyone know if it's possible to attach a contact to an appointment in the calendar?
The way the phone operates with all a persons phone calls, texts, emails & facebook updates appearing together on the contact details screen it makes sense that you should also be able to see any appointments you have with that person as well.
Ideally I would want to be able to create an appointment from the contact card or add a contact to an appointment on the calendar screen.
This would be really usefull out on the road, so when your reminder pops up it would also show you the persons phone number & address, so no need to go rooting around to find the address you need to go to.
Anyone come across a way of doing that or an app/rom to try?
If you are using Sense, you can add attendees to an appointment when making a new one. It doesn't show up on their contact card, though. It does send them an e-mail reminding of the event or a cancellation if you delete it.
Thanks Bob,
Yes did know about that but if you use that then first it sends out emails which I don't want it to do but also the list of contacts from which you can choose to add to an appointment is reduced to only those contacts with an email address. Most of my customers are non businessy low tech types so I don't have email address's for the vast majority of them & therefore can't add them.

[Q] Question about contacts and active sync/exchange

Hi there,
I have a user who is greatly confused by this "issue" and I was hoping that you guys could help me find a way to "fix" it.
The issue is that when you search for a contact, it searches your exchange account, which is great. However, it also searches LDAP (basically the server's address book) at the same time, and if you have a person in your contacts who is also in LDAP you will see the name twice, once under "all contacts" and once under "domainname.com"
I know this is a feature. I know this is helpful (say you want to contact your new co-worker but you don't have his/her contact info in your exchange account, you can simply let the phone search LDAP and pull their info from there), but to this user it is very confusing and not intuitive enough. He wants me to turn off LDAP search, but I can't find a way to do this.
any ideas?
