So I have an Omnia 7 that I got from expansys. The box had SFR on it, and there is an SFR ringtone on the phone. Other than that, no physical marks on the phone itself.
So the question is, am I safe to update since this phone was never put on contract (supposedly) or will I be screwed with a locked device after the update?
And 2nd question. Would I receive SFR updates (so only when that carrier approves) or would I get all unlocked updates?
Cause I haven't gotten any (pre no-do). I realize that may be a Samsung issue. Just curious.
Thanx

I purchased an unlocked Bell HD7 to use on AT&T. I've seen a prompt to update the phone. I'm guessing this is the pre NoDo update. If I connect to Zune to perform the update will my phone be locked again?
Did you buy it unlocked from Bell? Or did you unlock it yourself? I think if you bought it all out unlocked from Bell you would be fine.
For me, I'm curious as well. I bought mine from expansys.ca
The packaging came with a SFR logo on it, so it was bought from them I take it. But it's unlocked, now is it unlocked from expansys, or from SFR. That's what I need to know.
I hope they email me back soon cause the update is just around the corner (I hope).
What do you mean by unlocked?
I'm assuming that you just mean carrier unlocked. That is going to be fine. Nothing in either update that is going to bork it.
Just got word back from expansys, carrier unlock will be fine. Won't change, still able to use whatever carrier I want.
I did not unlock the phone myself. I'm not sure how it was unlocked. Does Bell sell unlocked phones? It was a brand new phone, but the seal on the box was broken.
I've read these forums and there's posts about how in some cases the phone relocks if it's synced to Zune. I'm worried if I connect to Zune then I won't be able to use the phone anymore.
If you bought it from Bell, paid full price for it. Then its most likely carrier unlocked, but will receive Bell updates, not unbranded ones.

You've got your wires crossed so to speak.
The re-locking you're talking about has nothing to do with using other SIMs. They are talking about Chevron Unlock which is akin to jailbreaking an iphone (it lets you install apps not from the Marketplace).
You will not loose the ability to user other SIMs and networks by updating your phone.

Hey
Just had my GN returned after it being away for a week to be repaired. Whenever audio is played (via ear piece or headset) it would play a few seconds of what sounded like white noise. I think it went back to a Samsung UK repair centre to be sorted via clove.co.uk.
The device has come back with the bootloader unlocked and yakjuxw build – different to the locked yakju build it went away with.
I think both of these can be reversed, but is this “normal” behaviour from the repair centre? Would it have any impact on my OTA updates?
EDIT: For those finding this, I followed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20302409&postcount=2 - easy option with official update worked great.

Normal behaviour....no. I've heard about service centre changing firmware and returning the phone unlocked, but that shouldnt be normal procedure.
OTA updates. The difference in YAKJU and YAKJUxx is that the firmware comes from different sources. YAKJU comes directly from Google and YAKJUxx comes from Samsung.
There isn't any big differences in the firmwares though, as i've understand it is only regional and carrier specific differences (citation needed), and the YAKJUxx version will update a couple of weeks later then the YAKJU builds will.
Thanks for the explanation - makes some sense. Why Samsung would do such a thing is probably for testing. From a customer's perspective, it's not what you signed up for when you bought a Google supported device.
I wonder what got repaired / replaced. If it's the same actual device, then there's no real reason why I cant put yakju back on it and hope onto the Google update train *sigh*
Hi,
Sorry to bring this post back from the dead.
Basically, I also have the problem that my GN was returned from a Samsung service center with the bootloader unlocked (I'm not even going to get into what I've had to endure with what is possibly the worst customer service on the planet). Now this doesn't necessarily need to be a problem, however, I suspect that this unlocked bootloader is the reason that I have still not received the 4.2 OTA update. I justify this by the fact that the identical phone I own which is on the same carrier has been updated to 4.2 a long time ago.
Is there anyone here who has an unlocked bootloader but still received the OTA update? If not, how can I update to 4.2 and lock the bootloader the way it was when I bought the thing?
NB: A funny fact to make you all chuckle: when I pointed out to the staff at the service center that they had unlocked the bootloader they had no idea what I was talking about.
Thanks in advance,
Chris
*edit* firmware is yakjuxw
Hey guys
My country(Pakistan) does not have 4g yet so samsung did not officially release the 4g model. However, as I read a lot about how much the 4g version is better than the regular version, I decided to get one even if it meant no warranty.
I looked around the local markets and found only the t-mobile version available. I asked the retailer about it and he insisted that it is factory unlocked. I bought it and had to leave the country for 2 weeks.
So here I am in a foreign country with my new phone. I buy an internet sim card and use the 4g network. It works fine. I find out my phone has supersu installed. This makes me suspicious. Out of curiosity, I check t-mobiles imei check service. Turns out my device has been blocked by t-mobile. I can only guess it has been unlocked through software.
Other than this, the phone seems to be working great. It looks brand new with box/original accessories et al. In my one and a half week of usage, it seems to be working fine too. Only problem I found was that upon trying to update, I got the message that it was unable to do that because my software has been modified.
Once I return to my country, I will definitely have a word with the retailer, however the chances of him accepting and returning the phone are slim. Chances are, I'm stuck with the device.
My question, how bad of a position am I in? Will I be unable to flash future updates even manually? Is there risk that I could lose the software unlock?
I ask this because even if the retailer returns the device(1% chance), I will still need to go through the trouble of looking for another device. And as I said, this one seems to have no other defect. The silverlining though, is that this device came rooted...which saves me the trouble to do it myself.
Please guide me as to what my best course of action would be.
Thank you in advance =)
The reason it won't allow you to update is because it's rooted. That's what it's talking about when it says it's been modified. All you have to do is use Odin to flash back to complete stock and you will be able to update. If the phone is sim unlocked, flashing or updating the phone should not effect the unlock.

Ok. But the phone's IMEI appears as 'blocked' on t-mobiles imei verification website. Doesnt that mean this is a phone that has not been factory unlocked but software unlocked? Why else would someone root a brand new phone?
Also, given I do not want to lose my root, how should I update to new versions of android without losing my unlock?
The reason why the IMEI is blocked is probably because the device was stolen/taken.
The reason why it will not update automatically is because the device is rooted.
If you have a rooted device, you have to wait for someone to post the official update and then flash it through ODIN/TWRP.
The retailer will do nothing for you, there's nothing he CAN do unless he gives you a full refund for the device.
This sort of thing happens a lot when you buy devices from people / 3rd party retailers.

Well I doubt it was stolen. It was brand new with box and all accessories. He had dozens more in stock. More likely someone is buying contract phones from tmobile and selling them witbkut paying the full contract.
How hard will it be to upgrade new roms for me? Could I lose my unlock in the process?
Edit: also, im reading a lot about how all versions of the n9005 come region locked. Since it isnt officially available in pakistan, does that mean I will need to unlock my phone regardless of where I buy it from?
Since it's rooted, you can always just flash custom roms based off whatever update comes out.

If it's blacklisted then it won't work with any T-Mobile services if you're in the US or whatever. As stated, once rooted you won't be able to update the phone through the software update from the phone. However, you're now free to flash any of the awesome roms that is out for the Note 3 and use it over there.

Yea, he probably opened a bunch of accounts, payed the down payments for the phones ($0-$100) and now he's selling em full price.
And with the updating.
When a new update comes out, developers will make a rom from it, and then you can just flash the rom.
You will NOT lose unlock when flashing a rom.

And are all note 3 region locked? If I get a refund, will I need to unlock any new phone I buy as well?
Hello everyone. I have gone back and forth with Sprint customer care (through executive relations!) For a few days now and they seem to be completely incompetent. Long story short - I bought a phone online (my bad). Before I did, I called Sprint, as they suggest on their own website... And confirmed phone is unlocked.
It is not. It seems that the owner had it unlocked but the phone never received the unlock request.
So I'm stuck in a Sprint customer service loop.... They tell me the phone is unlocked... 100% guarantee. Can be used anywhere.... But in order to unlock it (even though it already is) I have to contact the last owner... Which is not possible.
Soooo.... Since "technically" the phone is unlocked... Would simply flashing stock firmware fix my issue?? Or does the actual device still need to somehow receive this update from Sprint before I can use it? I have Verizon
anyone? i'd love some input. mainly I'm curious if the "UICC UNLOCK" button, and "locked to sprint" are specific only to the firmware?
Sprint, Verizon, and Samsung are all confirming that the device is unlocked... but phone never received the hardware side download of whatever the update/signal is...
My son had a T-Mobile branded S20 5G and I moved our service to Verizon. I paid his phone off and got it unlocked. Everything was working fine up until a couple of weeks ago. He did an update (didnt pay attention to what kind of update) and now he cant make or recieved calls or text (keepin mind the phone was working fine before this update). Attempts to call result in a message from Verizon saying that they cant authenticate his phone.
I *****ed at Samsung for a bit since his phone isnt rooted and even though its over a year old if a software update bricked it, I felt like they should have some ownership of the issue. It was a waste of time so now I'm back on the phone waiting for VZW tech support.
I think the issue is that its a TMO branded phone on VZW's network and everyone is pointing the finger at everyone else. My question is 2 fold.
1) has anyone ever experienced this before, and if so what did you do to resolve it and
2) I will attempt to root it and flash a ROm on it before I entertain buuying another phone.....hes got enough other **** hes dealign with financially he doesnt need to add a new phone purchase to his plate.
Any help would be much appreciated because I'm pissed the eff off at this point.
Yes we tried different APN settings...he walked into a VWZ store and they were able to get his data working but not voice or text....seems like something is out of whack with his radios). We also did a full factory reset.....same issue persists
I am not an expert on ROMs but I will give you my two cents. When I was playing with my unlocked phone, I realized that mine updated some CSC binaries as soon as I inserted the SIM. I saw some message for it updating the CSC code from XAA to TMB when I inserted TMO SIM on stock firmware. So my suggestion would be to try downloading VZW stock firmware from samfw.com and installing that.
