Hi,
For two days I have had a serious problem with my HTC P3300 Artemis:
There are actually 3 different things that happen:
1. The phone freezes while working. No idea what causes it. Happened at different occasions.
2. The phone doesn't wake up when I hit the wake-up-button.
3. Often while rebooting the screens whites out or whites out and gets green or purple vertical lines.
In each case only removing the battery helps.
I use Mossisrom as my OS.
Can anybody tell me how to fix the problem? Is it a hardware or software problem? Please help me!!!

I get the problem about waking up too. Sometimes it won't for a while. I leave it a couple of seconds and then try again which usually works.
Have you checked how much free internal memory you have. WM seems to still be very sensitive to low memory.
Hi,
I am rather sure that it's not a memory issue. The system freezes completely, not just for some seconds. I can't call the phone either. I think its either a SW or a HW problem and hoped, someone could tell me what to do.

I can only suggest resetting the ROM back to a standard one and seeing if you still get the problems. If you do, it is probably a hardware problem and you should get the phone replaced.
I had the exact same problem with my P3300. It's a malfunction in the Motherboard. I've called the dutch helpdesk and because a hard reset didn't do much good the PDA was picked up later that day to be sent to Eurotwice, the repair station in Belgium. I got my phone back 2 weeks later, I started it and it froze again! So I immediatly called HTC Netherlands and again, the P3300 was picked up by UPS that afternoon. The second time I wrote a letter to the repair station and sent it with my phone. In another topic on another website I read that some other phone with the same problem had been fixed by replacing the motherboard. I got my phone back today and it works great! It hasn't crashed today, and I have confidence it won't in the future. So my tip to you and anyone who experiences this problem: Call the HTC helpdesk in your country and ask them to sent your PDA to a repair station. It might take a while but they fix it well! By the way, you have 2 years full garantee so it didn't cost me anything! Great service from HTC!
Wow, you had a great experience from HTC . I didn't. I had the exact same problem as posted. HTC claimed I broke the phone myself and wanted to charge me. They claimed something broke behind the screen and that I must've pressed it too hard, despite the screen still being intact. After three months of phone calls to the UK and a lot of empty promises (promised to get a manager to call me back, never got them. promised to discuss with repair dept and call me back, never got them) I finally got my phone back , fixed. No explanation as to why they changed their mind. I had asked them to take a picture for me of what was broken and to how they came to the conclusion that I was the one who broke it. Maybe they were too lazy to do it.
Now its just stuck on the O2 logo boot screen and won't go any further!
I've tried the recovery mode and that just does the same! Is there anyway I can recover from this?!?!? Nothing new has been downloaded, its not rooted (I was going to do though!)
Can I get it working again... any help (and links needed!) would be gratefully appreciated...
Yours, a worried person!
PS if any more info is needed to help, just let me know.
I've had the same thing as this but not write as severe. My unlocked Desire reboots itself when being charged and using navigation. After about 10 minutes of use, it reboots.
I phoned HTC UK who confirmed that this was a known issue. They told me that the solution was to change the main board. They also told me that I should live with it for the time being as they only had 15 boards in stock and so, I may be without a phone for a little while.
BTW mine is running 2.2 and still reboots.

Mine was doing the same - either try an official RUU (didnt work for me) or try flashing a PB99IMG (worked for me the first time - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747775).
Mine got past the boot screen after i did this, but after a few hours it did the same thing & this time the PB99IMG method failed for me.
Gave mine in for repair today - they told me it would take 2-4 weeks!
@scorror sorry, mine isn't on o2, its on three.co.uk. It was part of their first batch which were unlocked/ unbranded with OTA Froyo a couple of weeks ago.

How old is it? And was it on O2? I've got a feeling a lot are doing this? My friends at work (also O2) is rebooting its self at least 3 times a week for no good reason!
Did they give you a loan phone while yours is in for repaire? Mine is just over 2 months old, I'll be pissing and moaning to get it replaced and not repaired.
Have you tried contacting o2?
PS tried the PB99IMG.zip method, it went all the way through, but failed on the CID check at the end, and just asked for a reboot. Does anyone have a link to an O2 download of the zip and not the Generic HTC one?? Long shot I know...

going to take it into them today and see what they say. If it wasn't branded I reckon I could have recovered it with the PB99IMG... So annoy...

This is the only available RUU for O2 phones:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra..._32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_124865.exe
There's a good chance that this won't install, as most O2 phones seem to have more recent software than this.
But if you haven't rooted or changed your ROM and the phone won't boot or go into recovery it sounds more like a hardware fault.

Well, tried that, and its now totally goosed!!! It started to go through the install of the new (well downgraded image) and then it sat on waiting for bootloader for ages, then said it had lost connection with the phone. I wont even turn on now. I dont get an orange light to say its charging from mains power like I used to do.
It has to be hardware related, as like you say, ots not rooted, it was the same ROM that shipped with the phone, its just, for want of a better word... F*****! Went into an O2 shop this arvo, but it was way too busy so didn't even get chance to see what they could do (exchange/repair) like I keep saying... Soooooo damn annoyed its untrue. 1st phone I've ever had that I couldn't recover in some way...
If you call HTC they will arrange a repair. O2 will just send it off to them anyway.

Was the same up to today, mainly rebooting when charging in the car with GPS on, but rebooted 6 times today when using tinternet at work.
Called HTC who are collecting next Monday to replace mainboard!!!!
Told in will take a few days to a week to do. Will have to use old touch diamond for these few days!!
To add to this:
I downloaded a battey temp monitor, and my Desire turned off in the car on 22oc, 26oc, 28oc & 30oc. It turned off when using normally mainly when HSDPA connection was present, but not always, and temps have been anything up tp 36oc.
More:
Unit was fine for the first month or so, and started after. Rebooting has been present on 2.1 and 2.2, but getting worse (which htc said also)
I did a hard reset earlier today but still the same, if not worse!
Running 2.2 now, phone was from mobiles.co.uk and was one of the first
It runs fine most of the time strangely enough though
well took it into O2 today, on the paper work I got back it said Repair Agent: Anovo UK Repairs. Repair or replace 7-10 working days.
Not sure if the above can't fix it will I just get a refurbished one, or will they send it to HTC to fix.. who knows at this point... who knows...

The lying gits made out to me that they had never heard of such a problem!! Mine has gone back to them as it was driving me nuts, the alternative would have been it bouncing of a wall!
Andrew
Hello.
I have some issues with my three day old mobile which I already changed, because my previews Desire which I bought two weeks ago had dead pixel (and this 2nd one has also a green bright pixel... but I don't bother to change it one more time because of this small error - I have to live with it - and it is a little frustrating having brand new but broken hardware).
Now my real issue... from time to time the screens are moving itself and I haven't control anymore. I don't know how to explain it.. but imagine you are dragging your home-screens continuous and in small distances really fast... it flickers... mmmh.
Is my touch screen broken or is it a software problem or.. or.. I really don't know.
I turned the device several times off but it does not really help, when I reboot the problem occurs sometimes again. And if so, I can hardly unlock the screen, because the response is so bad. Then I send it to sleep... try again, sleep, try again... sleep.. forget about it and later it is working again.
It is happening quite often.. 3-4 times this morning and in the afternoon I turned the device off completely. Now I turned it on again, and the problem occured two more times but now it's back to normal again. So ... haha... this is weird, probably I'm not using my HTC Desire right?
Since the problem comes sporadic I don't know how I should reproduce it and present a probably working device as broken to the customer service.
Any ideas? What could be a problem?
And do you have pixel errors on your Desire? I had several devices in the past (mobiles, laptop display, desktop display and so on) but never ever any pixel errors. I didn't even saw any on other devices as well. Now I had them on two HTC's in a row ...
Well,it had happened to my device two times when, after training,I tried to use it with sweaty hands.Probably sweat stayed on the screen causing false touches because the screen is so responsive.Try to reproduce it that way.If it's not that, then most probably you'll have to change to a new one again. And as for the screen problem, however small it may be you are entitled to ask for a new one as it is a factory problem and is inexcusable for a high-end 500 euro phone.
hello again..
I have still my "broken" Desire. Probably I will change it in the next days.
I made a short (****ty) video of frustration today, because it ended up not being able to response a call... (turn off the sound of the youtube-clips )
Then I shortly decided to buy a cheap ZTE Blade, but it turned out, that this device will be even more broken than my HTC Desire, which you see here:
this can't be random... three devices, and all were broken.
simply impressive.
all htc devices I've ever had have been perfect including a desire imo you should return it.
I've had bad luck with other tech before sure its annoying but all companies have dodgy units that make it through qc because they don't test every one just a random sample from each batch
What desire is it a world wide model or is it a branded one with telco software? Imo get the ruu and re flash it could be software rule that out first

Wow, you have some bad luck! Broken any mirrors recently?
Definitely looks like a hardware fault, but the Desire in your second video looks fine. Is that the broken unit?

Hello, erm there is a lot of threads about this but I find most of them with lack of information.
My device is:
HTC Desire
HBOOT 0.93.0001
ROM Amethyst RC7
RADIO where to see that
RECOVERY RA-desire-v2.0.0
The phone shutdowns after like 10min of being idle. Then usually its unable to turn on. If it is connected to a power source then nothing happends.
I have tried to RUU, Factory Reset, Other roms, No apps, 3 batteries and such. It started some days ago
I attached logcat too, any ideas?
EDIT: It also randomly thinks that the jack stick is plugged in
Send your device to a repair centre.
Damaged in any way? Dropped? Moist damage?
I have my desire since 2 weeks, with the latest update and unrooted, original f/w.
It has rebooted twice already while in call, what's funny is that it happened exactly at the same place (in the same subway station but different days), so I'm wondering if it could be network related or when it's switching from 3g to gprs...
After the reboot I can call normally from the same location.

Damaged by water, but it first started some days after, and I splitted my phone and dryed all parts
Then send back to repair... Water could've damage anything, which makes it working like that (probably faulty motherboard).
I cant send it to repair since I've opened it and replaced some parts
Then replace what you can, because it does not look like a software problem, more like damaged hardware.

That's your problem right there, buy a new phone.
Hello dear friends!
HTC let me down Kind of stupid phones indeed at least desire...
I have my phone for quite a time now, it is rooted with unrewoked, clockwork recovery and s-on. I flashed many different roms in the past and everything was brilliant. In a pas half-a-year or so I stayed with only one ROM - MIUI-Au. I kept updating it to the newer versions and so on and on. Never had any random reboot or something. At least maybe it was because of some strange app or something else. But now it started to reboot randomly and constantly!
Phone gets hot abit and it just reboots, and never comes to android homescreen again, until I put out the battery, hold it for few minutes, pop it back and then it boots. But as soon as start to play music, or run a game the phone gets hot abit and reboots again. and so on and on. I thought maybe it was a miui issue. So I tried to flash different roms, but guess what? None of the even boot! The main screen shows and with the same second it bootloops again and forever!... (
Even from recovery it sometimes reboots randomly. So i managed somehow to flash my miui back and it at least boots. But it is very unstable now, I barely can use my phone now
PLEASE WHO CAN HELP ME????
My warranty probably out of date, and my phone is rooted, I dont think HTC would accept it...
any thoughts? friends?
What have you set the CPU max to?
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
Thank you for response! Appreciate, really!! I didn't set it, I left everything by default I think! Because as i said, i even tried flashing different roms, not only miui.
What else could be? By the way, with stock froyo rom If I remember correctly, sometimes it became extremely hot, but I didnt get any reboots from that. But now, it gets just a little bit hot and it seems that this causes the reboot...
Now what I just noticed, I get reboots even when the phone is idle. And it is not even warm!
If its not getting hot then I'm confused lol. It sounds like a actual hardware fault. Sorry I can't help with this one

try and get it taken back to stock if you dare.
The phone hasn't been out 2 years yet, which is how long the warranty is.
Thank you! But is there any possibility to fix it without HTC involvement? Maybe it is not hardware issue ? Can it be because phone is rooted and I flashed many roms to it ? I didnt try AOSP roms since reboots started, I will try to pop in Cyanogenmod or other and see if I will get reboots.
Would rerooting my phone and updating my recovery fix the problem?
and Note: yesterday I tried to S-OFF my phone, but I can't even do that with my unstable MIUI. It rebooted in the middle of the process..
I had a similar problem, apparently it's not uncommon on the early revisions. I sent mine to HTC and they replaced the mainboard.
Thank you for answer! But what if my phone is bought through a contractor?
Can just call HTC and ask the for repair? Or should I contact my contractor first ?
Just give them a call and they will try to help you out. I had a very good customer service experience with them when my desire had some issues.
They will require a proof of purchase though. If you managed to get the receipt from your "contractor" (I am unsure what you mean by a contractor), then there should be no problem.
Sorry for misleading word, I meant T-Mobile. I bought my phone under contract. I think I have a receipt. I even have whole box and stuff of the phone somewhere in my drawer.(just sayin ). So how is customer service of HTC? Poor, good ? I heard you need to tell them that you did a factory reset and that didn't help. Is that true. Also if I will unroot my phone, will they know it was rooted anyhow?
Ahhh....this overheating issue seems common. How they can release faulty phones?? No clue.
thanks for answers mates!
In Singapore, HTC service is really good. Phone was still under warranty.
It took me just one (real) call to confirm a repair order. The first call I was just checking to see what options were available to me.
The second call was an actual repair request. And the third call was me pestering them for a pickup date. heehee
In Singapore, repairs were done via courier. They picked it up and 1 working day later, they sent it back.
Naturally, you will probably need to impress upon them that you tried everything to fix your phone (which I hope you did which includes proving to yourself that it's not the ROMs fault).
You will definitely need to reset everything back to zero. In my case, I downloaded an RUU to totally reset everything back to STOCK, which included removing clockworkmod recovery. You WILL need to create a goldcard for this though so bear in mind that it's not exactly a case of a simple flashing procedure. At least not if you don't already have a goldcard.
Sorry if I overread it at some point, but you speculated at the beginning there could be some faulty app causing this, but you never meantioned performing a full wipe. Have you full wiped yet? Just to make sure it is indeed no software problem.
greets
Thank you for your answers. At the moment I have SuperNova classic ROM. ( 2.3.3 + Sense 2.1) But my phone crashes again and again, it is so annoying and causes me so much trouble.
I never tried a reset or unroot and return to original rom. Im just wondering now, would this help to remove or at least remove those reboots?
Today I was in my work and i was keeping my phone in my jeans pocket. it got hot as u would expect when keeping in pocket and suddenly it rebooten, then it went into a bootloop and started to bootloop 7 times in a row quickly. then again and again. It became very hot at that time.
For the interest, what exact hardware faults causes these reboots and why phone gets even hotter if you keep it on boot loop. If I keep phone cold, the rom usualy stays normal, without reboots. but as soon as I start using my phone, texting or calling for at least 5minutes of using it just reboots.
as I said- really annoying thing :S
I remember my happy times with miui, apps and no reboots Was fun!
cheers for helping!
I would give full wipe / factory reset a chance, and maybe RUU.
At least try it before sending phone to htc.
It is hardware problem, search forum. Fresh ROM without SD card, enabled WIFI and GPS, running G navigation, back of the phone is warm - restart after few minutes.
Maybe someone know how to read info form the phone right before reset? We could understand why the phone is reseting and hopefully add some patch.
Reboot-loop experience
Hey,
i had the same problem over the last few months: In the beginning my phone restarted only when it got hot, but it got worse over the last few weeks, in the end i was not able to use two apps at the same time (music and mytracks) or even to surf the internet longer than a few minutes. The problem did noticeably decrease when the phone was cool - tested by putting it on a fan or in the fridge. Yet, Skype was regularly killing it. As i really love my phone (and especially the AMOLED-Screen!) i did not want to resign. The battery cover contains some metal which is supposed to enhance heat dissipation - so i attached a little thermal pad to the hotter bottom of the phone to improve contact with the head spreader. Unfortunately it did not entirely fix the problem. Yes, it improved the situation a little, but it got even worse after a week or two - in the end i had to turn it in.
So i decided to take it to the Telekom-Shop. They were very kind and told me they would call the other day to confirm that the replacement would have been shipped. It took a few days longer, but i got a phone with the AMOLED-Screen! The employee said it was a used mainboard in a new case, completely refurbished. They only replaced the main unit, i kept the battery, sd-card, charger and so on. Now i have a working Desire again!
