anyone out there knows how to root DHD after downgrade? i downgraded my unit to 1.32 after 2.2.1 update (via OTA) messed with my rooted DHD. i used goldcard. now i cant root using visionary or z4root. just shows "rooting device, please wait" but nothing happens. i even reflashed it thinking that something went wrong with the 1st downgrade.
any idea what to do next? i really need to root my DHD.
i used this downgrade tutorial...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
Have you tried to RUU 1.32 and then start over with visionary, you will loose all data again though
Regards
i reflashed again using RUU_Ace_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.32.707.1_Radio_12.28a.60.140e_26.03.02.08_M_release_153610_signed.exe but still the same. i think the problem is i already have my DHD S-OFF. My unit is already rooted using visionary before i upgrade via OTA. when i downgraded, my unit is still on S-OFF. i'm trying to find a way to turn it on again without rooting. i even tried manual root but still no luck. any suggestion?
I don't think that it matters that you are already S-OFF, I flashed back to stock with RUU couple of times while my phone is radio S-OFF. Just could root again with visionary with no problems at all.
hmmm.... that is the only reason i can think of that may be causing my DHD not to root. i'm planning to try unrEVOked 3.32. any thoughts on it?

No sorry, I'm not familiar with unrEVOked , sorry
everything went well without error with the OTA update, downgrade & reflash. can't seem to find any DHD owner with same problem as i am.
UnrEVOked will not work, it is useless to even try. Try uninstalling Visionary, and install the latest version from MoDaCo forums, you can find an official thread there.
By the way S-OFF does not interfere with the OTA in any way.
We can downgrade the system to a lower version to solve this problem
i'm already using the latest version of visionary (r14). seems odd coz everyone seems able to root after downgrade using visionary except me. it used to work for me before though. duno what went wrong now.
I seem to have the same problem as you. I downgraded due to a problem with my Device not being able to boot up after powering down. It worked perfectly after the downgrade but after that i tried rooting again with the visionary and easy radio tool. Got the same problem. I do achieve permroot. But i cannot Radio S-OFF. when i do that then i get these problems.
Were you able to solve your problem?.

Okay, I'm attempting to gain root access, basically I followed
# Arrow# [GUIDE] How to root Android 2.2 on the EVO 4G
I flashed my phone back to the 2.1 froyo version, but now I am stuck, when I reboot my phone with unrevoked it automatically selects the first option HBOOT with no input from me.
I THINK this may have to do with the fact that I can't get the HBOOT driver's installed. I can't find where the driver's should be installed when rebooted. So now I'm stuck on FROYO 2.1, with no root access. I know that getting to 2.1 is the hardest part of root, but I need to know how to get the phone rooted. Please if anyone can post info, or has had a similar problem please post here if you can help me.
Did your phone originally have 3.30 on it? If so, you need to flash the leaked 3.30 rom back, then follow the instructions about how to turn S-OFF with hboot 2.02.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=828437
Where can I find instructions on flashing 3.3 I'm not even sure how I flashed 2.1
bump, if no one can help me get my phone rooted, can you at least let me know how to get it back to normal, so I have the built-in flashlight app etc.
i never thought i would need help with rooting, but i have the same problem. i have boot .97. which should make it easy. i am stock 2.1 and i am trying to flash a pc36img.zip but it simply wont load. it goes all the way to checking, and dumps me back at the hboot. no idea what i am doing wrong. i will try some troubleshooting now. ?!?!
edit i now have .79. trying to flash rooted pc... holding 3.29 now. wish me luck
same problem. goes from checking straight back to hboot. no idea at all.
Hi everybody!
Has anybody had success 'rooting' after the ota to 2.36?
My DHD was 1.72 before, and didn't root it then, and now, gingerbreak says something is wrong, reboot manually and check..... and when I check... no luck, no root.
USB debugging is on, SD card is in, etc.....
Thks
Hi,
Have a look at the downgrade thread, when I did it - ran gingerbreak to get temp root, then followed the steps to downgrade from there, then flash a custom rom with permanent root.
certainly going to lose because you are ROOT with OTA install the official version. how do you follow a man in front said to downgrade and install custom ROM and IMT will then root and gingerbread phone

Thanks for the info, nednapalm. I had already seen the thread, but.... it looks to me like it's strange to have to go back to 1.3x before installing something, when (if I understand it right) some people have made a 'direct' root with their 'ruu-ed' DHDs (i've seen no report of OTA success, so that's why I ask).
And, in any case, with the method you mention, could ANY PD98IMG.zip be used? (p.e. seraphic has posted seraphic_gb_rooted_0-1.zip which is basically the RUU rooted).

Hey!
I have problems downgrading to 2.2, since I dont like the new update at all. Alot of bugs and etc.
So I've tried installing the RUU from the computer, also renaming the file to PB99IMG.zip and putting it into the memory card.
Ive done this a thousand times when unrooting but now I get the error that my bootloader is up to date or something like that, I don't really remember.
Anyone who can help me ?
Thanks
EDIT: I get the error 140 bootloader error
Edit: It appears you can now unlock the bootloader and gain root access
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Is it possibly to root my phone and flash in a rom, and then unroot the phone to 2.2 froyo like I've always used to?
Understand that the hboot is locked with it locked you cannot do anything untill someone or team alpha and unrevoked come up with something that can..
Damnit, the damn 2.3 update sucks. Well then I have to wait then, I regret updating. I should have stayed on the 2.2.
2.3 update has just been unlocked using revolutionary!
yeah but i dont know the meaning of that.. im not used to s-off and i dont wanna brick my phone..
But if someone could do a quick guide for me for this s-off thing, and how to go back to the standard 2.2 froyo without s-off and root. By that I mean, that the phone is back to it's standard after doing this revolutionary.
Thanks
So I had to get a replacement Incredible because mine broke. My old one was fully rooted and s off. The replacement I got came with Gingerbread 2.3.4. I managed to get it rooted but not get s off. I have the latest clockworks recovery and can do backups etc. But I can't get s off.
I have been unable to use the downgrade method or do anything. But using a root checker it still shows I am rooted.
I felt pretty comfortable with the old phone swapping roms etc but now I feel like and idiot cause I just can't figure this out...LOL
Hope some of the experts can help/
The only way you can get s-off is with unrevoked forever. It requires an older radio from stock froyo. Since you cant flash a radio wile s-on the only way to get it would be to downgrade with the froyo ruu. There is a good thread in the q&a section i believe on how to downgrade from 2.3.4. Some have had success with it and others not so much.
EDIT: Here is the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1306400
I have tried this method but can't seem to get it to work. When doing the commands there is one stage where it should push the file to the phone. I think this is where the problem is because it says 0k of XXXXX. Or whatever the total file size is.
I will play more I suppose.
So, did I screw up? I reflashed to stock 2.2 in order to fix a few issues. I got the OTA message to update and I did, so now I'm on 2.3.4 with no way to re-root because I can't turn s-off. Would it be safe to use the unrevoked s-off forever tool or should I go with the gingerbreak.apk method. I feel like an idiot for updating, so take it easy on me... LOL! Thanks in advance.
I used this guide to get my Incredible rooted.

My first time ever rooting an andriod device. May work for you, may not. You didn't say which device you have. I ended up using the zergrush method to get mine rooted with s-off. Not sure I needed to use that method since I had screwed up and made myself think I had to try it that way.
Rooted DINC ADR6300 with CyanogenMod 7.2 S-OFF
Thanks, but it didn't work for me. Not sure if it's because I'm a Mac user or what, but it was definitely a no go. I don't want to be stuck un-rooted forever! LOL!

The method in the link above is the only way to root an incredible on android 2.3.4 that is s-on. Your best bet would be to find a friend with a pc and try it again.

I'll give it a shot and see what happens. Thanks.
I've been trying for two days by doing the method mentioned and no luck. I am following it exactly, but I keep getting an error message stating that my firmware is too new.

I also was successful in rooting my Inc using the older version of Unrevoked in this thread (version 3.22 I believe). I stopped before doing the full downgrade and S-OFF... I haven't decided if that is worth the hassle or not.
Previously rooted, here you go

Kind of a pointless video. Of course you can root 2.3.4 if your already s-off. That is the whole point of being s-off, so if newer firmware comes out that isnt supported by unrevoked or other rooting programs, you can still easily get root by flashing a custom recovery thru hboot and the su binary thru recovery, and your fully rooted again.
