how do i edit a kernel? - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I figured since proly no1 will do this, how would i , lets say, change the max mhz of miguels kernel? 864 is not the highest my phone can go, and limiting myself @ 864 bothers me a bit

Speed tests

Hey guys thanks for all the useful info I have gotten here, was wondering what were good/decent times for my evo running konis elite 3 kernel net 432 cfs havless, on speed test app
Thanks again

Well sprint claims 3g speed to be between 600 and 1400kbps. But technically, 3g speeds SHOULD average around 2mb/s. However sprint's network is crap right now, I cant get above 100kbps ever.
Thanks!

Sprint LTE frequency?

Does anyone know much about Sprint's LTE frequency? From what I understand it will operate at the 1900mhz frequency... But what exactly does that mean? Isn't the lower the frequency the the better? Would someone more knowledgeable be able to explain this? TIA!

Wimax is at 2500 mhz ....lte will begin at 1900 and then go to 800 when sprint gets rid of iden. From Nextel .... higher frequency was used because it takes less towers to get coverage but the 2500 doesn't penetrate very good ... the 1900 will work good and get much better later with 800 ...

Cellular frequency 1900mhz vs 800 vs 850 vs 1800

Can somebody point towards a good quick explanation of the benefits of each and how well the signal goes through building/walls etc.
Google, Wikipedia.

Lower frequencies better signal... Higher frequencies easier to loose signal

Well there's this, but lower frequencies aren't without disadvantages.
The main advantage a higher frequency holds over a lower one is it's capacity; in a very rough explanation, it's able to hold more "stuff".
Higher frequencies are at an advantage in urban areas due to being able to accommodate a higher density of users. The catch is that tower placement needs to be denser in order to penetrate building well enough.
The best network would use a combination of both in high population areas, and primarily low frequency ones in rural areas (not a lot of people, but a lot of ground to cover).

How to view operating frequency?

So Sprint is partially launching its 800MHz network in September. I'm trying to find if it is actually up now. Does anyone know how to view the current frequency the phone is using? Thanks.
Sprint hasn't deployed 800 MHz anywhere on more than a few towers except in the Chicago market. Even in that market, it's unlikely for you to be close to a tower broadcasting that frequency.
But just for reference, dial ##DEBUG#, enter the code 777462, go to the first listing mentioning 1x, and look for the line labeled "Band". Most Sprint service is on band 1. Roaming can be either band 1 or 0. Sprint 800 MHz service is on band 10.
777462 is invalid

The correct unlock code is 777468. (If that is too hard to remember, just enter SPRINT)
##debug# does nothing for me

Correct me if I'm wrong but our phones will never see 800 MHz. The LTE radio it has, isn't built to pick up that frequency.

I believe that is correct for LTE. But the OP is writing about 1x service on 800 MHz.
I've been on 800 mhz here in NW Indiana for the past 2 or 3 weeks. I'm on the southeastern edge of the Chicago market. All the towers in my area are NV complete for 3G according to S4GRU's maps, and I can confirm that since I can see the RRUs mounted behind the antennas. I've seen 800 come and go a couple times, but it's been on solid here at my house for the past couple weeks. I live in the sticks, 5.2 miles exact from the tower (with LoS) i'm connecting to, and my signal went from around -92 to -97 dbm on 1900 to -83 to -88 dbm on 800 mhz. Significant increase.

[Q] HSPA+42

Hi everyone, I have a question regarding the HSPA+42 capabilities of the T889. Does it only get HSPA+42 on the AWS frequency or other frequencies as well?
Hi, i think t mobiles 1900Mhz is not 42 everywhere yet.Im getting 17 mbits at my home on 1700MHz and 7Mbits on 1900Mhz.But at some places speed and signal are better on 1900Mhz mostly in areas where hspa+ on 1700 is weak - thats only my opinion. So yes i think note 2 can reach 42 on every frequency compatible with hspa+
Who do I change AWS frequency?

does the phone automatically work on all the bands? or does it stick to a particular one? should i go through that menu and press all frequencies? thanks!

I think default for all 3g phones from t mobile is 1700.Even if you choose all frequencys the phone gets connected on 1700.
What are the defunct setting ??
