[Q] Cannot backup via nandroid - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After I flashed this d2we (v1.5) rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11860001 , I decided to upgrade my recovery through Rom Manager.
I succeeded, but I cannot nan backup with it.
I flash the update.zip, I start the backup, it gets stuck on "Backing up Data..." (although the bar is full), and after a long waiting it says
"Error in CACHE:recovery/log
(No space left on device)"
I don't know how much space is left in my internal memory, because I'm using d2we, but I think it's supposed to be empty due to the d2we. anyway, is it suppose to interrupt?
Maybe a wipe will help things up?
Thanks!

Recovery info? Phone info? Bootloader version?

CWM 2.5.0.7.
What do u mean by phone info? (if amoled/slcd then it's amoled)
Where can I find the Bootloader version? (is it the HBOOT? if so, then it's 0.75)
Thank you for trying to help!

Maybe your /cache partition is full. Try doing Wipe Cache in recovery.

Clear cache.
If it does not works from recovery, then can try fastboot or ADB.
But it should in 2.5.0.7.

Still the same after I wiped the cache.
Could it be that it says that the cache was wiped, but it actually wasn't?

Try it from fastboot with erase cache command: Guide here.
Just skip the first two and start form getting into fastboot.
It will need the HBoot USB drivers (the same used for Unrevoked).

It did finish the backup; however, now it says
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
(File exists)
Could not mount sd-ext. sd-ext backup may not be supported on this device. Skipping backup of sd-ext.
Is it normal with d2we?
Anyway thank you very much, I can finally backup!

[HELP!] I can't mount data.

In Clockwork Recovery:
I get an error saying "cant mount dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (file exists)" when I try to wipe, mount, or advance restore the data partition.
In RA:
it says invalid argument
Mount data in adb says:
"mounting /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 on /data failed: Invalid argument"
Is this a hardware problem with my memory.
I was useing CM 6.0.1 and the last thing i did was allow windows to format the internal memory when i plugged it it.
Will using an RUU help or brick?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks for the help guys!
Anyways, I figured it out on my own. I was afraid of flashing an RUU when DATA cant be mounted, so i decided to restore the stock RECOVERY and turn S-ON so I could call Big Red and say their OTA jacked up my phone.
To do so, I downloaded a stock nandroid backup and started to advance restore the partitions I could (boot, system, cache). Just to see what happens I booted up the phone and to my surprise.. it worked properly. I still dont know what happened or why.
Oh, also , i used Amon Ra Recovery to format the internal storage before I started restoring via nandroid. Hope my little ordeal helps someone if they come across the same problem.

flashing questions but not what you think

I get the tuts and can probably follow them, but. I rooted my desire with unrevoked 3 without any major problems, downloaded titanium and backed up. But not sure about how it pans out. If i flash a rom will titanium be there to restore my apps and such wheb the new rom boots? or do i do it through recovery, how do i make sure i dont loose everything?

Titanium Backup saves backups on your sd card, so just flash and download titanium from the market and you will be fine
nice one cheers, any other snipets of info you think might come in handy?

Hi peeps sorry to butt in here but i'm having problems getting a ROM to flash.I'm in recovery and have factory wiped and cleared dalvic but when i choose to install zip from SD and choose Zip, the flash starts then aborts.Theres a couple of errors, goes something like this.
E:can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
(file exists)
deleting files
deleting files
copying files
E:can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
(file exists)
E:can't mount SDEXT
E:Failure at line 11
copy_dir PACKAGE:data SDEXT:
Instalation aborted.
Again sorry if its straight outta the blue but i thought i had got my head round it and then BOOM (wrong) lol.Any helps good help, thanx in advance
the rom you are trying to use needs a ext partition on the SD card.
if you dont have ext partition you need to make one. you can use rom manager from market to do this. But back up the sd card before trying this as it formats it, then you can move the data back.
check the site on my signature tells you how to make ext partition for apps2sd
I would normaly follow your advice but i dont get a boot of any kind.just hangs at splash screen so no market available. The only thing i can get to right now is recovery but not sure how to recover and everything i have tried seems to give me errors. My heads goin lol.
Anyone out there? lol.Just wondering how to create the ext partition using recovery so i can flash the ROM and how to restore the stock ROM (which i got before any of my problems started .Any helps good, right now i dont have a phone i can use and i'm pretty scuppered without one.Thanx
If you have amon-ra recovery, you can create it from the recovery. But I think you have clockwork, so you need to flash a stock rom to get your phone back
Or use a gparted live cd and put your SDcard in your pc and then make and ext3 partition.
Yes i have clockwork mod.I flashed it with a stock ROM then installed rom manager from marketplace to create the partition, then flashed the HD ROM.Probably the long way round for anyone who knows what they are doing but hey it worked .Thanx for your help, just gotta figure out now its working why it keeps re-starting

Help Please! Something's wrong with my HTC Desire

I have a rooted HTC desire which was running on defrost rom. I have a 2GB sd card and i used the rom manager to partition it. Then I tried flashing the RCMixHD rom after wiping data, cache and dalvik cache, but it said
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (File exists).
Now when I boot my phone it gets stuck at the HTC screen. I can only use the bootloader and clockworkmod recovery.
I've tried doing a nandroid restore but I get "MD5 mismatch".
Please Help!
Repartition your SD card. Make sure you use at least 512 mb ext partition.
When I used ROM manager to partition it I used 512 mb ext partition and 64 mb swap partition.
I found a solution here
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/6433-solved-messed-up-partitions-on-internal-storage/
but I can't get about to doing it because I can't get adb to work(I have never used adb before). I tried but the SDK manager can't detect my phone.

I got the same exact problem with this rom yesterday.. I had to buy a cardreader and restore my SD card.. no more try for this rom! haha.
Phew...I finally got my phone to boot normally after flashing my old rom(defrost) a few times and deleting all partitions from the sd card. Now I'm scared to flash anymore roms...I think I'll be using DeFrost for a very long time.
dont create a swap partition. just fat, then ext.

E:cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk1

been getting this error "E:cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk1" with my g2 I cant flash from my sdcard or boot into os and when i restore a backup that I have using fast boot it just hangs when I try to boot up the system I do have clockwork recovery on the phone and adb access but cant mount the sd card please help thanks
A little punctuation please pal!? That was hard work to just read it.
OK, what are you trying to achieve? Is it just not booting under any condition?
... and you also cant restore a backup through "fastboot" or recovery?
Have you already tried a fresh flash of a ROM or is that a last resort to preserve data/apps?
Boot up into recovery > mounts and storage > Mount sd card > Flash a ROM or restore a backup.
I mean I'm just speculating, I've never had this problem before.
...and yeah wileykat's right, you can't restore from fastboot

Why couldn't you just use flashboot to flash the boot, system, and userdata partitions with your backup images? I thought flashing these types of partitions was the main purpose of the fastboot protocol to begin with. I hadn't heard that this doesn't work on the G2 (not sure why it wouldn't---is it something specific to the eng. hboot?).
And yeah, more details are probably needed to better understand the issue here.
I got it fixed. I had to bend the prongs on the sd card holder up to provide more contact. Thanks guys.
I am having the same error when I try to do a backup or rom upgrade. The strange part is that I can see the SD card in recovery mode......
nothing freezes on me, but EVERY single time (besides nandroid backup) I get that exact same message.
Does anyone have an actual answer? Like a workaround or something?
Or does it really matter as long as everything flashes
cheers

[Q] When trying to Clear Dalvik Cache - E:\Can't Mount /Dev/Blocl/mmcblkop2

I am running CM 2.6.0.1
When I try and clear my Dalvik I always get the following error:
E:Can't Mount /Dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (file Exists)
It does not prevent me from Installing Roms.
So I was able to get this fixed, but not sure why:
So I took out my SD card and out in a temp new one (same size) and it did the same thing when I tried to clear Davlik cache (same error)
So then I went to "Partition SD Card" and choose 128 (smallest Option) then 0M for swap. Once I did that, I do not get that error when I try and clear Dalvik. I took the SD card out and put it in my PC and I now see a 128M partition that looks empty. Put my Original SD card back in and without the partition, I get the Dalvik error.
Do I need this partition and for what?
Thanks guys, sorry to sound like a newb.

You can try switching to Amon Ra and see if the problem persists. I only used ClockworkMod to do one nandroid backup right after I rooted, I switched to Amon Ra before my first flash at the beginning of the year, so I'm not really familiar with Clockwork. Before I partitioned my card, when I would wipe dalvik with AR it would skip wiping the dalvik cache on the ext partition (because I didn't have one) but would wipe the dalvik cache on internal memory successfully. It wouldn't error out, just skip it. Perhaps that's what Clockwork is doing but differently?
I also noticed that you're on an older version of CWM, is that correct? You could try updating to a newer version unless you specifically need an amend compatible recovery, in which case I would recommend Amon Ra again.

Im pretty sure its just checking to see if you have dalvik on your sd, when you dont have a partition it still checks.
Just hit wipe dalvik again and it will wipe
The error is nothing to worry about, I get it too
