I've just got a used LG Quantum (for AT&T)
and was wondering if it is safe to go ahead and perform a factory reset.
As far as I can research on the internet, there are two methods for about doing this
First, go to settings and do the reset
Second, press something like volumn keys and camera and turn the power on for "cold boot"
My question is... what are the differences between those two methods?
Is is safe for me to do any of them and have a fresh new start on this used phone?
Also, will any of the two operations above relock my carrier sim?
I don't live in the US so I can't call AT&T to get another unlock code.
Thank you.~
You don't have to re-enter unlock code once you've enter it! Happy reset time
Btw, the different of two methods for resetting is that even your phone refuses to boot and you couldn't go to setting, ect.., you can reset it by hard keys!
I reset mine using the software menu method fine.
Both are the same though and it only resets the phone itself not your sim card.

i locked my dash and i thought i knew the code but i guess i dont because it wont work, wht should i do?
How did you lock your phone, with a device lock or SIM PIN? Are you prompted that you have 10 tries (SIM) or do you see "Unlock" over the left soft key when the device turns on? If the second, a hard reset will clear the password.
Procedure to make a HARD RESET
Hello,
Which is the procedure to make a Hard Reset to the phone HTC S620 ?
Thanks
My friend was trying to guess my unlock pattern and after so many failed attempts the only way to use the phone is to input your Google account details. The only problem with this is I had the mobile data and wifi turned off so the phone is stuck on the same screen. Any way of getting past this? If not, any way to restore to factory settings without getting into the settings menu or flash the stock rom? For the first time ever a Google search has completely failed me
I'm not sure the correct key press sequence, but I thinking holding both volume keys while powering on (from off state) should get you into the bootloader, from there you can pick recovery, and in recovery there should be an option to do a factory reset.
edit: once the stock recovery boots, it might look like a warning sign with an android in the middle. from that point you need to do another key sequence to see the options. It's been a while since I used a stock recovery, so I am not 100% positive.
perhaps try and pull the battery and let the phone restart? might let you try and use the pattern lock.
Thank you! Sorted now It was the same key sequence from the recovery screen and got it from there!
I am quite sure that the stock recovery menu does not offer any options.
I know one way which would work 10000%. Go to bootloader mode(hold both volume buttons while switching on), connect to your computer, and then use fastboot(http://koushikdutta.blurryfox.com/G1/) in the console, typing "fastboot oem unlock". This will unlock your handset(not a simlock, just the bootloader), but because of security reasons, your phone will be restored to factory settings. After that just use "fastboot oem lock" to lock the bootloader again if you want to preserve your warranty.
Stop thief!
I have a Wildfire S someone was just looking to get rid of. I'd like to try and set this up for my son to use, but it has a lock screen code and I've no way of directly contacting the previous owner.
I'd like to know the easiest way to just wipe the phone and factory reset it so I can try it out and see if it's going to work for me. I may try rooting/ROMing later, but right now I just want to wipe all their data etc. and just get it back to a factory reset state. If the easiest way to get this thing wiped is to root it and install a ROM I'd be find with that as well. (I don't have any experience tinkering with HTC phones).
Thanks for any help. I tried searching and wasn't able to find anything and there's no stickies I could find on the subject (If I missed an obvious guide I apologize).

you can directly factory reset it.
remove battery and again install it.then hold volume down and power button.
then you can see bootloader menu, and with help of volume keys select factory reset option and press power button.it might help to reset your phone directly.

Awesome - thanks - I was trying holding down Vol Up and Vol Down + PWR which is the way it's always been with Samsung phones.
Hi all, I'm not an Xperia user, but Nexus, so sorry if I'm not knowing basic know-how for this device! My father I font now how inserted a pw in the device and now is not able to use the phone anymore... And the problem is mine!
I wanted to factory reset but all try I did were not sucessfull:
1) pw button+vol up not working
2) hw reset button 5sec not working
3) secret dial code not working
What else I can try before connect the phone to pc and try to reset with it? I don't want to read all the instruction for it, I don't know from where start because I'm totally new for this device...
Thanks for your help
Not sure if I remember that correctly, but there's a tiny red button next to the SIM card that should do a factory reset when pressed for more than five seconds.
Already tryied, but nothing, it just shut down the phone
Flash a stock ftf.
My phone restarted and now when i input my password it doesnt allow me to hit OK to unlock phone. called samsung and they wanted me to factory reset. is there anyway to back up the phone prior to that with out the ability to unlock phone? really dont want to lose all my photos.
