Just switched from Epic - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys just traded my epic for the evo 4g. Just want to know what the fastest roms out there are, and what kernal is the best for battery and performance. I am currently on CM7 Rc2 with tiamat kernal. Love it so far, but i wanna know about other roms that are comprable. Also, i noticed im getting a lot lower scores with quadrant on the evo than i used to get with the epic. Whats the deal with that?

Well the quadrant will be lower the epic is in paper better but I found the evo more usefull and for good performance and good battery like MIUI is really good if you don't care about battery life and welcome to the Evo forums

I don't know what that's about, MIUI gives the BEST battery life and performance. Higher quad scores with MIUI than with any other ROM (excluding CM w/ snap turbo but that's cheating anyways).

yea i keep hearing about cm with snap turbo, is that a cm7 kernel or just for cm 6? and i personally dont like the iphonish themeing of miui. Any good sense roms?

try new gb miui with tiamat gb sbc. you won't regret, I don't and I'm cm7 fanboy. this new miui is the shiznit

my biased opinion is mikfroyo 4.6b2 odex is the most fastest and stable ROM out. i use nets 4.3.4 kernels..

For full out sense I like Myn's, MikFroyo's, or Evo Elite. They are all smooth, fast, and stable.
For senseless I like VaelPak's 3.2 RC. That is a sick ROM, and very customizable
For AOSP, I myself prefer the new Evervolv Nightly that I'm currently using. It's the most stable Gingerbread build I've ran on my device (in my personal experience) Salvagemod is also a good AOSP rom. And of course CM7, which you're already running.
Just spend a week or two and flash every single rom and try them all out. I think I've literally flashed every single flashable ROM in the dev section. I love trying out new things.

I like MikFroYo the best. If you check out my MikFroYo based ROM I make it blue and red with and without colored menus. Enjoy and don't think any ROM you flash will be your last. Its an addiction.

hey thanks alot guys! i think im gonna give salvagemod a try and also mikfroyo.

I use Cyanogenmod 7 RC2. For the most part, it's working well. There's a few irks, like the camera unstable auto focus, that I can't get over.
Any AOSP rom's that have 4g and perfect camera working?

Whats the best rom out

hey guys i just rooted my phone and i wanted to see wat u guys think about the roms that are out before i get to flashing
I like sprint lovers, but at the moment I'm using the newest azreal rom. Good speed, nice animations, everything works.
I have flashed most of them and I am sticking with MIUI for now. Great battery life, great performance and it doesn't look like all the other EVO's out there. Just my humble opinion.
In my opinion i think Fresh Roms are the best, very reliable. Been flashing Fresh Roms since day one and never had a problem.

+1 to this. MIUI is the best ROM out there by far! Once you flash it, you will never go back to anything else!
i agree! MIUI all the way!
Just flash and test. Your "best" is not our "best".
Do you like Sense? - Sprint Lover's; Fresh; Myn's Warm 2.2
Do you like AOSP (Google's Clean OS)? - Cyanogenmod
Do you like the look of iOS? - MIUI
I would say those are probably the 5 most popular roms. I've tried all but Sprint Lover's, and they all have their pro's and cons. Give em' all a go. Its fun.
I've tried Myn's Warm 2.2, MIUI, Cyanogenmod, & Dark Cocoa (which I really like esp, RSL1!!), based on screen shots & specs I'll try new ones on a regular basis!! Right now I'm finna give Konikub's Elite Series 1 a try (can't wait!).
I would try Mikfroyo v4.4 for me it has gaven me the best speed from myns and fresh but again thats me. But if you dont want sense try cyanogenmod 7 its frieken fast and well its android 2.3 gingerbread.
First things first, there is no such thing as the "best" rom. Everyones preferences are different, and we all like things that others may not like. It's understandable to get input on which you should run being new, but we can't tell you whats going to please your preferences. I'm not trying to be an @$$ so please don't take it that way, but in order to find the BEST for you.... flash ones that you think you may like as others have stated.
It all depends on what you want, if you like Sense or not.
Sense Roms- Myn TwoPointTwo RLS 5, Calk's Evio, Sprint Lover's.
Aosp/ Non Sense- CM 6 or 7

I would try miui myself.

How to choose Evo rom?

I was looking at the Evo rom subforum and there are so many options. I have no idea what to choose. When I had the Hero, I used cyanogenmod. I liked it, but I'm definitely open to any suggestions
The most important features to me are long battery life and speed.
I like MIUI so far. But really depends if you like sense or not.

I have no problem with sense. I'll definitely consider MIUI when choosing a rom.
Based on the number of replies and page views, it looks like Warm TwoPointTwo is the most popular rom. I read the first page and the screenshots look nice, but there's not much information about its features. Does anyone know why it's so popular?

pick them all, you can do that with nandroid why be stuck to 1 and hey no need to ask when you can make your own decision.
MIUI
CM7
CM6
MYN
Caulkin
I got them all nandroid on my 16gb card... enjoy my friend you got the hottest phone on the planet for a minute or two longer....lol
I'm all about MIUI. Been running it since the beginning of november. There really is no comparison. All the sense ROMs are pretty much identical to me, except for the different themes, and CM is nice but it's pretty plain appearance wise. MIUI has the performance of CM but is gorgeous to look at, plus it has a TON of features that aren't available in any other ROM, and more features get added with every release.

Like the above user said, depends if you like sense or not. I personally loved sense before flashing to an aosp rom [such as cyanogen].
For sense, the talk of the town is mikfroyo and Evio by calkulin
AOSP...CM7 nightlies, evervolv are nice..
As for battery life, you'll have to experiment with some kernels.
Fast, bloat free gingerbread? Salvage. =P

No 4g is the dealbreaker for me on that ROM. Anxiously waiting though.
I'm currently running the Cyanogen 7 Gingerbread Rom. It's decent, but a little buggy.
I am currently running Myns Warm 2.2 and love it due to the battery life, i've gotten 23 hrs out of it so far without a charge with moderate use, texts, facebook and a few calls.
been using it for about a week.
MikFroyo is the fastest sense based rom that I have found. Plus the people in the thread are very helpfull, and slow to flame.

ok, here is a better question, good rom with 4G/WiMAX, working GPS, and 3g/4g hotspot. I have Cyanogen 7 RC1, but it is buggy. Don't like it too much.
Warm twopointtwo by myn all the way. very fast, looks great, and battery life like you wouldnt believe
everything works, download the wireless hotspot for root on market. some say the browser is slow, but myn uploaded a fix for that in his thread
Best way to choose is to try them all out. I would at least try mikfroyo, myn, miui, and evio. Before yo do though, might want to just try flashing one of the most recent cm7 nightlies over rc1. I think there are some changes that might make it a bit more stable.
I'm running the latest cm7 with wimax and have very few issues.

trying out MiK right now. i think miui didn't have 4g, one of those u listed didn't
Yeah, Miui doesn't have 4g (yet). Still worth a try though. I think you'll like Mik. That and EViO are my fav sense ROMs. Kings is also really nice. Mik base and tons of themes.

I've used Warm 2.2 and currently on Ava Froyo. It's also a good, stable ROM will everything working.
Using Netacrvy-Toastmod 4.3.1 cfs-havs-nosbc, I'm getting decent battery life with moderate usage. Now the trick is to define what's acceptable life for your usage. I have 3 constant sync emails with FB, 4Square, and a couple of calls and youtubes a day, and don't have to worry about a charge.

Running Laucher Pro, should I ditch HTC Sense?

Ever since I found Launcher Pro I've never used anything else.
I'm running SkyRaider 3.5 (which is HTC Sense) and I'm wondering if I should go to an AOSP ROM like CM7.
I'm wondering:
> Will it be faster than current setup?
> Will it be better on battery than current setup?
Let me know, thanks.
Battery and speed will improve depending on which kernal you use. The main advantage to using a AOSP ROM for me was better bluetooth support. I can't use wii controlers with my emulators using Sense but I can if I use a non-Sense ROM like CM6 or CM7. Shows you what I look for in a ROM doesn't it.
Doesn't Skyraider offer a senseless version of the Skyraider ROM?

Speed will depend, more likely than not it will be a bit speedier and better on battery IMO. I have been running CM7 with the Savaged-Zen kernel and i got over a day and a half out of it, that with setcpu at 128/1113 with smartass governor.
I used to stick with Sense based ROMS because they where just so smooth and stable, but now im with AOSP ROMS like CM7 and a few others. I use launcher pro and its awesome. The customization of AOSP ROMS are pretty much endless, and they give you a cleaned up Android. Id give it a try, just make a back up of SkyRaider then download the latest CM7 RC.
@OP
I was in your shoes about a week after using the phone after I bought it.
Went AOSP and haven't gone back except for the occasional, lets see if somehow the grass somehow decided to paint itself greener and became super plants.
I recommend AOSP completely. It's alot more of a streamlined android experience, and IMO lets you really customize the OS to work for you, rather than having to work with sense.
Not saying sense is bad or anything, it's my favorite non stock rom, but AOSP is just above and beyond for me.
Although incredibly re-engineered had me off AOSP for about 3 days before switching back

Senseless is still Sense framework, which lacks the advantages of a true AOSP ROM. The advantage to Senseless is a vanilla interface, but the stability of the Sense framework.
Thanks for the input!
Will be switching to an ASOP ROM sometime tonight.
For me unfortunately, the lack of decent widgets keeps forcing me back to the new desire z based sense roms. Too many additional features in sense. Wish there were good equivalent aosp widgets for what you can get from htc in the hd/z/mt4g/inc s roms...

I don't know if you wanna jump in head first or not but, I'm really enjoying the new Cyanogenmod 7 RC1 right now. Another great is MIUI. They're both great on battery life and they're both highly customizable. But they are a big change from sense- especially MIUI. And, obviously, CM7 is a release candidate so it isn't perfect (although damn close.) Whether you jump on them now or later, once you've gotten your feet wet, you should check em both out some time.

That's false. I have never gotten the battery life from an AOSP rom that I have from an optimized Sense rom. I've used almost every kernel for both types of roms. There are quite a few people that actually complain about CM battery life. As far as speed its like the butt dyno, just saying your phone feels faster is all perception. There are people that say the optimized Sense roms are the fastest and some say the AOSP are the fastest. Try what you like and use it. The real differences is in the interface. Bluetooth is definitely better supported on CM.
I found my best battery life AND speed were with Ruby ROM 2.0.2 with Launcherpro. Cyanogenmod 6 is good too but had tons of features I didn't use. Invisiblek kernels are a great addition to AOSP ROMs.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I've been running MIUI 1.1.26 with invisablek #28 for a while now, w/o setcpu and while I wouldn't say it's the fastest combo (not that it's slow) its is the most stable my phone has been since I switched from Virtuos using stock kernel.
After setting up invisablek #28 and wiping battery stats it did take a few days of crappy battery life until it started to kick butt. I can get thru a 10 hour work day of moderate web surfing and constant music playing and still have at least 20% battery left. And if I run with the 2150mah extended battery forget about it.
I would definately recommend giving MIUI and invisablek #28 kernel a try. It has the faster charging the stock kernel has and runs smooth and stable. The launched takes a bit to get used to but you can always run launcher pro over it. Tried that but I love the MIUI launched too much.
Thats my issue with the CM line, it has tons of features I dont use (which could be flashable) and includes way too many localizations. I must admit I forgot about Ruby, it was the best in terms of speed. No lag, no hesitation, smooth as butter.
Launcher Pro doesn't extend any battery life on any ROM I have used it just a different launcher but one of the best ones I have used so far.
If you aren't attached to the Sense experience, the don't even hesitate to try out different ROMs. I gave up on Sense after a month of purchasing the Dinc, tried out CM6, tried out MIUI, and now I've been "crackflashing" CM7 since January. A lot of people are experiencing really good battery life. Can't say so for myself since the Dinc is my main computer, but I would certainly say that it is the fastest ROM I've tried.
Do a nandroid backup. Try out a bunch of new setups. Restore the nandroid if you aren't happy. Simple as that--when you're rooted you can do a lot with these devices.

I will say that CM's GPU performance is better than that of the Incredible's on 2.2. My guess is that this is due to CM's release using more recent drivers for the Adreno 200. I've tested this with both benchmarks and games.
On Sims 3, owning the largest house makes panning/zooming is a virtual crawl on stock Sense, even with a good custom kernel. On CM7, it's playable, a huge difference. Quadrant advances/profession GPU score (not the worthless combined score) is nearly 150 points different. To give a perspective, it's 280 to 410 on average, which is a huge jump.

[Q] Best ROM with good battery, speed, and 4G.

i have been trying to find which is the best ROM for my evo with good battery, 4g, and fast(responsive). i obviously also want it to look good. whats everyone got?
Well just to let you know A**holes are gonna tell u wrong place and all that jazz.
But all roms to my knowledge have 4g except MIUI and ports from other devices.
Battery life from my experience varies from phone to phone, kernels play into battery life as well but again they vary from phone to phone. As for speed i think cm 6.1.2 is fast than cm7 thats just my opinion Salvage mod is great on everything for me but as for sense roms mikfroyo is very smooth and fast
i personally love salvage mod for aosp and Eternal Prophecy for Sense
eternal prophecy updates quickly and often so very few bugs and is optimized whenever something new is released. the kernel does play a huge part but for the most part i only worry about the kernel for aosp, as EP comes with 4.3.4 from netarchy. after that its changing your sync settings, display, if you decide to use setcpu(i do).
also my original evo battery has 1.5x the life of my replacement evo battery(i have both, my first evo broke and they only wanted the phone and let me keep everything else), hell if i can understand why
I say cm 7 amazing battery life, two hours off the charger and I'm still at 97% or so, its amazing try it out, but the GPS didn't want to work, there is a fix just download msl reader while on sense rom get the code dial ##gprsclrx# enter the code, let it reboot and flash to cm it seems to be working now for me
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Sense base, I would have to run with Caulkin 1.8 with a kernal flashed on top. Works wonders for my evo
Cm 6.1.2 with SZ kernel. Battery is amazing. Very fast. And everyrhing works without issue. Use it about 3 weeks. And its the best rom for me.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
I've had the best battery life with Fresh 3.5.0.1
As far as how fast the rom is, CM7. But the battery isn't as great, and the 4G reception seems about %20 worse than with a Sense rom. MIUI has good features (the music player with lyrics is my favorite) but to me it resembles too much like iOS and too little like Android (and I bought Android for a reason yaknow)
And like others have said, it does differentiate with each unique device
General consensus is usually:
Fastest ROM: CM7
Best Battery life: Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo
must be tough to do some research on your own and YES im that asshole
WRONG FREAKING SECTION ! isi t really that dam tough to post a [Q] in the Q&A or even the general section .. hell 3 or 4 of these type questions pop up weekly in the general section .
nm

For speed: most ppl say CM7, but CM 6.1.2 takes the cake.
For battery: Either Myn's Warm 2.2 or the latest build of MIUI.
(i haven't tested Myn's excessively, but it seems great)
The only caveat is that MIUI does not have 4g, but is updated weekly and plans to incorporate it are underway, being that the devs just switched to a Gingerbread base, and the ROM has been varying from build to build. I use MIUI as a daily driver, because the skin is better looking and more functional than sense, and as fast as an AOSP ROM.

Myn's is the only ROM I get outstanding battery life with (my hardware must suck). And if I use any other Kernel's than stock, battery life is horrendous.
I thought this was a ROM with the best battery whats going on here? I'm confused..

[Q] suggestion on AOSP ROM

sup sup guys i just want any suggestion in a aosp rom that has froyo but wit a good battery life and a good speed and if u can tell any kernel that would be perfect
and thnx in adv
CM6...go for a savaged-zen kernel.
Miui's last Froyo build is really fast, stable and has really good battery life on the baked in kernel.... I think its either a SavagedZen or Tiamt(I think that's how its spelled). But no 4g, that's a killer for most though.
Sent from my MIUI havin, Gingerbread Throwing EVO
I've heard alot about CM, but had trouble flashing it one time and moved on to another. First I ran MIUI, it's very clean looking and smooth. They are on the gingerbread builds now, but you can find the froyo versions on their thread here in XDA.
I just recently flashed Savaged Zen rc2 and must say it is solid for a gingerbread build. I'm not sure they have any froyo builds as it's a pretty new rom. CM definitely has the majority of followers out of the 3.
Only dl miui if you like iphone interface.
I'm a cm man, nothing comes close for me
