[Q] tethering - Desire General

Iv'e been told Orange have disabled tether on the HTC Desire. I'm new to this, can anyone tell me how I can re-activate this facility?
Cheers

You could try barnacle from market, if you can't get native tethering to work. Barnacle allows for wifi tethering

Thanx..I'll check it out

Root and install custom rom. That's the way to go.
I'm on orange as well and nothing worked for me, none of the apps allowed tethering. It's something in oranges rom that prevents tethering.

Tethering not working on vision

Tethering not working on G2? I just replaced my N1 with this G2, I asummed that I would be able to tether just fine after installing CM 6.1.1 but both wireless tether apk and barnacle say they are broadcasting but my pc doesn't even show it on the list of available networks.
If I use the stock tethering app my pc picks it up but can't use the internet, same thing with wired tether!
It isn't the kernal because I have tried the stock kernal, the cm kernel, and pershoot's kernel...any help would be appreciated!

Anyone? This is a pretty big deal for me

Native tethering on CM6.1.1 works fine for me... Try clearing cache/dalvik and reflashing the ROM
NOTE: It takes a minute or two for the PC to get a internet connection from the phone, if that helps...
Thanks for the response, the problem isn't that the pc isn't getting a data connection, the problem is that it isn't picking up the fact that there is a network available

There's an issue with tethering on Mac OS X if you are using USB tethering
I'm on a pc...and to be honest, I care more about wireless than wired... I tried wiping the cache through Clockwork and it is still a no go, I have also tried 2 different roms.
Assuming all steps were done correctly, could it have an a manufacturing defect? That you exchange for a new one under warranty?

Return to full stock?

Hey yall, I'm trying to unroot my phone because for some reason, Whenever I try a new rom, any and all tethering is broken. It works on my current rom (Froyo sense) but I wanna give some of the new ones a try.
Tethering is the biggest thing for me on my phone cause that is what I use as my internet connection on a daily basis.
So basically, I figure rerooting may help my issue, any help?
Rooting and unrooting won't change that. Have you looked for workarounds?

What do you mean by workarounds? Take CM7 for example, Although it is known the Wireless Tether app doesn't work on CM7. I tried using the native tethering and barnacle with no results. This is after multiple restarts and wipes, etc.
I figure that a clean wipe and reroot may help. Sometimes reformatting a computer helps issues, why shouldn't this be the same?
Both wireless and USB tethering work for me with the built in options

[Q] USB tether

Can somebody tell me whether the native USB tethering works on any of the custom roms yet or do I need to rely on something like EasyTether? I've tried searching, but can't find anything specifically stating one way or the other on the Sprint Note 2.
we already have Wifi tether which is free... if you adamantly want usb tether the only way I know it's with apps like the one you mentioned

[Q] Wifi Tether for Root Users isn't working. :(

Just rooted my S3. It has stock Jelly Bean installed.
Only reason I rooted is because every now and then I have need to tether.
In the past, on other phones, I've used the Wifi Tether for Root Users app and loved it. However, when I run the app, non of my PCs see the network at all. The phone looks like it's working but the laptops don't see any network.
I saw a bunch of people post about the similar thing on their google code page.
Is there a fix for this or a different program I need to use? Any help would be great.
Thanks!

you might want to use one of the modified ROMs such as Jedi Mind Trick JB 1.1 or Infamous's . I dont think free tethering in stock ROM will work.

I tried the generic steps for tethering but I do not have the MSS Clamping option on the one that I downloaded on that page?

The stock roms generally want permission from the carrier to enable tethering. The custom ROMS generally have it enabled by default. One of the tricksy things T-Mobile is doing now though is checking the User-Agent of the browser requesting a page and, if it's not a mobile browser (i.e. you're wi-fi tethering a laptop and using a desktop browser), it redirect you to the "Buy Tethering" page. There are extension for Chrome and Firefox to change your User-Agent.
Non-web traffic seems to be completely unaffected by the new tethering test.
