alright... this is prob about as nerdy as requests come... but i'm a genetics major.. and would love love love if someone with knowledge about how to make boot animations could make a boot / shutdown animations for me...
boot animation of a double helix zipping together (the base pairs connecting) and then rotating while the phone loads
shutdown animation of the helix rotating, then unzipping and coming apart just before the phone turns off.
ya. i'd pretty much die. haha. any chance someone could throw it together?
Whoa...hell thatd be sweet.
But that would take a lot more than knowing how to make boot/shutdown animations (which I have knowledge of)...that would take some serious animation skills lol.
Unless you have a video of something similar, which could potentially make it very simple
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
I looked for a gif last night. Could find just rotating helix but nothing zipping our unzipping. There are videos on youtube and quicktime videos on websites of similar. What kind of animation would be needed?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I .mov file of a suitable animation would be relatively easy as you can output the frames to PNGs with quicktime pro. I think it sounds like a cool idea though and I might like to give it a shot. would take a while from scratch though.
I found a pretty cool animation in the most popular video website. Just search for "DNA replication animation by interact Medical." It may be just what you're looking for.
Yep. Exactally haha. Their videos are great can't believe I didn't think to look on their site. I was thinking basically that, full screen. Going one way for power on, opposite for power off.

If I took that exact video and ported it, would that be good enough? The only changes might be transposing some words, like epic 4g or something
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
youd have no complaints here at all that would be awesome!
Hmm...now that I watched the video, there would be some changes id like to make (just because I have a hard time settling on things lol)...converting that video should be easy enough, but I dont know if the changes I would make are within my scope...ill let you know tnight when I get out of work what all I'm able to do.

i will definitely keep an eye on here. that would be amazing. i cannot wait to see how it comes out.
Let me know if someone does this for you. My wife wants the same thing
Could you steal the one from the final Quadrant test in Quadrant Standard?
We have helix boot and shutdown animations for ec05. I wish it worked on ef02. They're awesome! You may have to do some digging, but you'll find it.

Here's a link to the current helix boot and shutdown animations:
Helix Boot & Shutdown
I could take a stab at this, using 3D graphics software, make my own custom animation. I'll let you know what I come up with. Black background ok?
Does anyone still want this? I've started working on it, and it still needs to be animated, but the base strand is created.
Ok, it's ready (just about) - just need to test it.
Here's a preview - after it comes together, it will just continuous loop on the spinning.. won't "recreate"
[EDIT] Ok, having issues getting the full boot animation to show on here, or upload to google, so just use this think to preview:
http://imagebin.org/160581
Here's a preview of the looping part though:

the helix boot animation will work on ef02 if the kernel has custom boot animations enabled
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22463231/dnaboot.zip
Tested, working on EC05 Epic 4G running Syndicate Frozen Rom 1.2 with Twilight Zone 1.1.1RC2 kernel
And yes, I know there are newer modems - I have my reasons for still being on EC05.
Try it out, if it works, let me know

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong here. It is under 190 frames total, png images, all 480 x 800 but nothing plays. stays for a second and skips to being booted.
It is based off my favorite game, Shin Megami Tensei (it's the opening computer scene where the demon summoning program is first activated)
I just don't know where I went wrong on this.
Part 0 should play once, Part 1 should loop
could someone take a look at this and tell me what I did wrong?

Try this in the desc.txt
480 800 5
p 1 1 part0
p 0 1 part1
No change, sadly. There's gotta be something else I'm doing.
Wait are you saying that it plays a little bit of it then skips to the rest of your boot... or the screen goes black? Basically, what happens after what you want to see stops?
I noticed your FPS is set at 5, which is pretty slow. Maybe increase the 480 800 5 to 480 800 15 and see where it gets you, if you're only getting to part of your animation before the rest of the boot sequence (the part that doesn't have a boot animation) continues?
Hey guys, I rezipped it a different way that should work and changed the FPS to 30. I tested it on my phone and it worked fine. Nice boot by the way!
Let me know if it doesn't work.
@thegregbradley Actually all it would show is a black screen for a couple seconds, and then nothing.
@illinois08 Thanks, I'll try it out. Reflashing CM7 Nightly atm, so I'll have to get to it here in a few minutes. I'll edit my post with the results.
EDIT:
@illinois08 It works! Now I just have to tweak it so it actually gets to the final loading screen!
Well, once I finish and adapt it, I'll be able to upload it, the splash screen and begin work on the ADW theme to go with it. Thanks for your help!
Nice! I'd say just increase that FPS even more and see if you can get it to play all the way through before the boot finishes. I have no idea what the boot is from, but it looks way cool, considering running it myself

A bootanimation idea I've thought of before is sort of Leaving the HTC EVO 4G image and one second later it starts dissorting or burning down into a nice animation. Get me?
The white screen: when it finishes loading to start the boot anination, it should look as if the image IS part of the boot screen animation... It just breaks down violently and then starts to deform or rip appart to start the boot animation. So you won't have 2 seperate images at startup (Evo 4G screen + animation)
Make it one run-on animation....
By tthe way, that can be just the start.... No idea of the rest of the animation

Made a few splash screens to use with your Galaxy S3. These are splash screens, not boot animations! Splash screens display before your boot animation. Be sure to check out the link in the thanks area, and download the tool for yourself and start making your own! I just made these for a few quick choices for those without computer access.
Tested on a Sprint SGS3, but may work for other carriers. I only use TWRP, should work just fine in CWM but I personally haven't tested.
I will start by saying I take no credit for ANY of the images used, modified or unmodified. If an image I used belongs to you, feel free to PM me and I will take it down or add thanks. If you use a splash, hit the thanks button.
It's downloaded, now what?
Flash in TWRP or CWM. I suggest wiping cache and dalvic cache before and after flashing (As I do with every single file I flash, no matter what it is). If you don't know how to flash this, don't do it. Plain and simple!
Warning:
I take no responsibility if this destroys your phone, or if you get electrocuted while flashing it. Flashing ANYTHING can possibly brick your phone, this is no exception. If you flash and everything goes great, hit the thanks button. If flashing this causes magical leprechauns with pots of gold to appear in your house, please share the wealth, lol.

Hate to sounds like an ingrate but are you taking request?
I'd love to steal a full resolution version of the stock boot image. I think it'd be really nice to turn it into a boot animation, so its more minimalistic and seemless from boot-to-OS.
Think ya could help me out?

Doctor Who bootanimation with sound!!
WARNING
This is a disclaimer: While this has been tested I am not responsible for ANY damage done to your device. I take no responsibility for bootloops, soft bricks, hard bricks, living brick monsters, your phone proving an omnipotent being fallible(thus negating all existence), your great aunt smoking bath salts, flying monkeys, hot pockets, obamacare, dingleberries, carnivorous dingleberries or Sundays. Use at your own risk!!
Secondary disclaimer: If you have carnivorous dingleberries then you have bigger problems to worry about - but for any phone related questions feel free to message me on here either privately or in the thread.
This is the bootanimation I use for my sprint lg optimus g and figured I should share it for any other Doctor Who fans out there. Doctor Who and the TARDIS are registered trademarks of the BBC. This animation is not my original work, I simply turned it into a bootanimation. THIS IS NOT A FLASHABLE ZIP! You have to manually put it into your system/media folder and change permissions(-rw-r--r-- aka 644). Also, you will want to delete your old boot animation and sound(make a backup!) and may need to rename this - if you are running stock ls970 it is already named appropriately(As is the sound, PowerOn_Sprint.ogg). Finally, even after optimizing the jpegs as much as possible, the zip is still a whopping 25mb! Both the bootanimation and sound had to be uploaded to dev host because the zip was too big and xda doesn't recognize .ogg files!? Feel free to use this(and any of my bootanimations) in any way you like. I never ask for donations but if you like/use it, you could always hit that thank button!
EDIT: For the sound you may have to copy it to both system/media and system/media/audio. ALSO - THIS ONLY WORKS ON STOCK OR STOCK BASED, AOSP HAS BOOT SOUNDS DISABLED.

GERONIMO!
Thanks to everyone on xda, the BBC, everyone in the #lg-optimus-g irc channel and anyone else I may have forgot!
Feel free to leave feedback and suggestions!
Sick boot ani. Note: I'm running official liquid smooth. I couldn't get sound to work at all. Tried putting it in both spots, changing permissions, even tried renaming the file by taking the sprint off the end. And any combination of the 3, no dice on sound.

From what I now understand, AOSP roms have boot sounds disabled by default or simply don't support them(like cyanogenmod who never plans to support boot sounds). This link I found here may prove helpful. It seems like quite a bit of things need to be modified on a custom rom to enable or allow boot sounds. I have not had the time to try this so as always, make a nandroid before altering anything. As soon as I get the time I will flash liquid and see if I can get this to work(unless you beat me to it). Certain roms like Mahdi have an option in settings to enable boot sounds, but each rom is slightly different. On AOSP it also has to be named "android_audio.mp3", it can't be an .ogg file. We've talked on hangouts so you know my current work schedule - as soon as I have time I will test and try to get this to work on as many roms as possible(I'll do liquid first) and then post detailed instructions per rom in a different guide that I will link to here.

Wow! Very nice concept! I am both a windows programmer and coffee lover I love the app you made. The background color very nicely portrays coffee. One thing I learned from computer program development is consistency. Maybe recolor your icon and the green icon in the app itself. Maybe using columns and then centering the text and images would give a more professional appeal. One thing to add down the road would be maybe the recipe/making instructions as it does seem very simple.
Your app loading time/splash screen lasts a little longer than I expect for the app but then again it is not bad either. The text you chose reminds me of coffee house text too.
Very nice so far. Let ms know if you have any updates. Post the updates here. I subbed the thread.

V10 Boot Animation Collection (wip)
Ok I so this phone is badass but for some reason we got a bunch of slackers in this section not doing jack squat (including me...for now!) so I decided today to finally get this ball rolling and made this boot animation. I notice that there is a whole lot of nothing out there for us so I made this specifically for our device. I think it's pretty cool and decided to share it. I will likely add to this from time to time (if time permits) And I am also planning on making some full on themes for us. That g4 theme engine thing is cool and all but I need more than that can offer. So that will be my next tinkering. Ok so enough rambling. I'll post a couple screenshots of actual images and you can use your imagination for the rest and try it if you like. You know the drill by now, backup your current bootanimation if you want and then flash this. no need to wipe anything. If you are a rom builder and wanna use any of these in your roms for our device go right ahead. I really don't care if you credit me or link here to be honest, just don't claim to have made it is all I ask!
Oh and if you're wondering why the heck these things are so heavy, well that's because some of these have over 400 images! And our device is actually interesting in that normal boot animation tricks to save size do not work and actually will distort and cause the animation to flicker!
Enjoy!

won't likely need this one either...to hell with it, it's mine also
just in case I wanna jack this whole thread with a bunch of crap I made. This one's also mine!
@markbencze
Amazing and awesome work as usual bud?
Awesome. Thanks
Images aren't showing for me by the way.
I'd like to add some to this eventually. Gotta decide what.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "add to this". Also what images aren't showing for you?
Images of bootanimation in OP are not showing.

That would be either an app or browser issue.
Well, not showing in Tapatalk, chrome browser on V10, safari - waterfox - chrome on mac...

This is a smorgasbord kinda thread right? Where users contribute and add their own boot animations and stuff?
At least that's what it looks like, I meant I plan to make some boot animations of my own and add them to this, if it is supposed to be a collection of user made boot animations.
And the boot animation images are not working on Tapatalk, Chrome, trying to share the image brings up nothing, no link or such.

Well no not exactly. My intention was to have a thread where I'm sharing my original work. And add to it.
I can't help ya with images not showing via tapatalk. I uploaded the images the proper way so that is out of my control.

Oh, sorry. Nevermind that then.
Although I suggest you upload the images to imgur or something since they don't seem to be working for other people.

You can always start your own thread...

To be completely honest having them show via tapatalk app is the least of my worries. I wasn't even going to make those screenshots and decided last minute to post them. Anyone who knows me or follows me on Google plus where I'm far more active knows I make crazy stuff so I'm not worried about it
"Common sense isn't all that common", as a well known person here says...
I just used the xda labs app and have no problem seeing the screenshots fyi.
And bam, what a magic trick, I now can see them! On tapatalk and v10's chrome. And they look nice. Good job!
They're showing now. Nice work!
