It was really easy too. The only hard part was super gluing everything together.
Ok, so you have inspired me, I went out n bought the classic pro controller, and I LOVE your idea of the slide in behind holster for the motion controller, I might have to build up something similar, but without the part for the phone itself.
Im gonna keep looking to see if there is something for the pro controller and post back.
Thanks for the idea!
Simply amazing. This looks like a great portable solution.
Looks awesome, but has to weigh a ton! I can see getting fatigued pretty quickly if you're not resting the controller on something while playing.

Question for you, like the commenter on your video asked, how did you get that effect when turning off the phone? (the old tube-tv style scrunch and power-off)

Use a Gingerbread-based ROM (he mentions he is using Ultimate Droid 3.1).
Very cool. I like the idea.

Check it out. Made it with some sold scrap metal I had around the shop. I will get more pics when I put some spray on it.
Here it is all finished. The bolts make it so I can tilt the phone more forward or back by loosening or tightening the jam nuts. Comes in handy when watching video. I put some VW lug covers on the head of the bolts to protect the case of the phone. Not bad for a days work.
Sweet!

wouldnt really consider that ghetto. have you seen the ****ers around here using the cardboard box the phone came in? or the guys using paperclips?
he could probably market this to iphone owners as some industrial steampunk phone stand, get "Made for iPhone" stamped on the box and sell these for $200 all day long.

You know, I was thinking the same thing. Im going to make another for my touch pro 2. I will post pics asap.
What case is that on the phone? I just ordered a Vibrant (it'll be here tomorrow. Can't wait!) and I'm looking for a good case to put it in. That one looks pretty nice. I was a bit disappointed to find that Otterbox doesn't make a case for the Vibrant.

Its just a rubber case from the T-mobile store. I got it when I got the phone. It was only like $15 and it fits real nice.

love to see it. i'm a car guy too. buddy of mine made some lamps out of old cams, cranks and turbine housings from some shot turbos he had in his garage.
i like to see stuff like this. lots of people dont have an open enough mind to figure stuff like this out.
Nice Job. Money tight? I hear ya.
New Dock
This is my new one, for my touch pro2. Same basic design as the first, but a little rougher around the edges. It also fits my vibrant really well. I think Im going to play around with fiberglass and see what I come up with. I did body work for awhile, and I can sling mud with the best of them.
Hello everyone,
Today I got creative with my brand new Optimus One.
I wanted to give the phone a more prominent place on my desktop, and here's what I've come up with. ( check attachments , I can't post links)
Getting the phone into the dock is pretty simple.
Just slide it down and it should click into the usb connector.
It did took me a while to get things lined up perfectly.
It might not be the most stable solution, but it's pretty solid.
The rubber bands holding the connector in place are pretty tight.
Any other users here made themselves a dock?
I could also use some tips on making it more stable.
Very nice
handmade stand
Very nice! My ideea was a little different. I used fimo modelling clay i bough from an arts shop with crafting materials (very cheap). You model it the way you want to and them place it in the oven and it hardens. It is very hard and and you can get it in any colours you want. From the leftovers I made a little android guy. I gave it the phone's shape, so it fits quite good and is stable enough. I then glued a piece of fabric so as not to scratch the phone in time. It is not the best looking solution but it fits its purpose perfectly. It took like 20minutes to build it, not including the time it stood in the oven.

Looks cool indeed, only downside is that you still have to plug in the usb connector afterwards ^^
True. I wanted a simple dock to use the phone as a night stand clock thinggie. I'll try another design to incorporate the charger some time.
I really dig you Lego design. Technics all the way!! Fits with the Optimus One robot theming too.

Good ideea! I've started thinking about making a dock out of fimo too.
Very smart Gj
im def considering.. doing one out of clay or resin.. and making a usb/headphone port. hmmmm to the drawing board.
Do try. Good matterial, it doesn't break easily (I dropped it numerous times and carried it in my luggage) and you can go wild with designs. Have fun!
I have to steal some LEGO from my kids when they sleep and rebuild that!
Yep that my question, why there nothing like that:

Simply because our device is too new and there is too little of a user base. If somebody wanted to make them in small numbers at a small production cost, it might be difficult (especially on how to make sure it snaps to the device without hurting it), and then marketing them at a price point people would buy would be even more difficult.
It is sort of a mass point problem. We haven't hit critical mass, and thanks to this being a fairly niche phone, we probably won't get that kind of notoriety.
That would look awkward.

and I doubt you'd be bring this with you while on the go, so why not?
May as well connect your PS3 controller if you are going to this trouble.

I agree, something chunky to sit in the palm of my hand is what the play pad is missing. It's too thin IMO.
Look folks, I grew up playing games on ergonomically awkward controllers. Original NES was Square, SNES was slightly less square. N64 was the first console controller I used that actually pretended to care about cramping hands.
Tough it out a little. You'll grow to love the pain.
LOL you are only a real man when you have wrist and finger problems

The Dreamcast controller was a pleasure to use, except for the DPad.
This would only be cool if it had extended batterys in the grip can you say 24 hours of gaming?

Have to disagree.
The Dreamcast pad 'handles' always felt like it was digging into my palms...and having the wire at the bottom was annoying.
Loved the console though at the time.
I would love a snap on grip. My hands hurt from contorting to hold the little thing.

i dont know but my hands are fine when using the phone.. i have huge hands by the way
I don't mind holding the phone when gaming, except if I'm clenching it hard.
Has anyone tried hothousing the PSP GO handgrip to an Xperia Play case?

Just tried, XPP won't fit. PSP GO is bigger and larger.
Digging a dead xbox controller with dremel work could work though.

I was inspired by a reddit thread, it was very easy to make and I think it's a quick and easy solution.

Excellent idea.
All you need now is some matte black paint spray and you;re all set .
Nice, I like my home made dock also, just used some parts to card readers and epoxy. I just plug my phone in and set it down, it has worked with all my phones.

It's not too hard, it's just a bunch of melting plastic and testing to see if it fits. I just melted through the plastic with the soldering iron and then cut the insulation by where it meets wire to the usb dongle so the wire can bend more easily. I would look a lot cleaner if I used a dremel, but it was late at night and I didn't want to be buzzing away with others sleeping in the house.
The soldering iron does have it's advantages, I didn't need to use any glue, I just fused everything together.

I think I'll leave just as it is, I've already breathed in enough burnt plastic Also I was just working with what I had, too lazy to go out a buy paint. I might add some rubber nubs on the bottom of it though so it doesn't slide.
It launches netflix and sets the media volume to the max, so all I have to do is plug in my headset and start watching some shows over lunch.

Reaffirms my belief that these $30-$50 prices we're seeing for docks is a rip-off.
Neat idea and it looks great! I was trying to find a horizontal dock that uses the micro usb and perhaps I could use the same idea and just move the cable onto the side.

Yeah, horizontal might be a little bit more tricky, if I was going to make one, I'd try to utilize the 3-pins on the right side of the phone. You would also need a cassette case that is longer than height of the phone or make something that can mimic a cassette case.
good luck!
Edit: I'm an idiot, you can just lay the phone on it's side... it looks fine, also you can keep it in horizontal mode with this thing: http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10833&cs_id=1083314&p_id=8675&seq=1&format=2, I think I'll just stuff it in bottom case and it can double as a media dock and watch movies on my TV.

Makes my decision to get the One over the X that much more tolerable. I was really intrigued with the double twist camera trick on the X but the Pressy seems even quicker and easier and I won't accidentally fling the phone across the room.

Kinda weird the first picture of it on their kickstarter page has the top of the One in a mirrored layout. It shows cam on the left and power on the right when it is actually reverse of that.
