I've flashed Evervolv-Acies-1.0.1b3-supersonic to my EVO but can't get the WiFi tether app to work. When i "start tether" i get the error "tether started with errors". I dont know if the rom isnt compatible or the kernel.. any suggestions/ fixes?
Does your built in hotspot work? Tethering has been very shotty with gingerbread, it works for a few people, but I'd recommend using the built in hotspot, or trying using the older like 2.5 version of the tether if you can find it.

I don't use Myn's...CM7 user...but I think just about everyone sues the hotspot.
Most custom roms nowadays has the hacked hotspot. I'm on MikFroyo with a hacked hotspot. I know Nuggysunlimited's is also hacked. Those are the ones that I have personally used and tested at one point or another.

Does a hacked one mean an ability to use your hotspot without being raped by Sprint ?
If you weren't getting raped by Sprint, then it wouldn't be hacked.
But yes, you can use it for free, without getting charged on a hacked hotspot.

Yep! All you have to do is open Sprint hotspot and click ok. Then it gives you options to turn it on, change the name of your router (phone), and choose your security type and change the password.
That's it, your all set to go surfing!!!
My doors are open if anyone needs to PM me for assistance with anything pertaining to your Evo. I love mine and have learned so much and love to help others, so feel free to hit me up.
Also Wireless Tether App in Market
I'm not entirely sure what the differences are, but there is also the "Wireless Tether for Root users" in the market. I've been using this for a bit and it works great.
I'm on MikFroyo 4.5 and use the Sprint Hotspot. For some reason the Wireless Tether from the market didn't wan't to work for me. They're both basically do the same thing though.

I haven't been able to use wireless tether in a while, unfortunately. But yea, they are the same...I keep getting "started up with errors." I tried the newer one, and the older version of it.
One thing to check with wireless tether is make sure you allow your connected device in the security settings.

Destroyer is AOSP, so it doesn't have Sprint Hotspot. However, it is CM7 based so I assume it has the native hotspot that's included in CM7.

You sir are correct.
I was rooted and running Barnacle just fine in Froyo, then upgraded to GB. Now it does not seem to be working. Im rooted in GB still (just be a different program) and it shows Barnacle has root access.
It goes and says NAT is unavail, restarting NAT.. and nothing after that.
Heres a screen shot of what its saying:
Guess this is a common error with GB
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...e-any-roms-dont-have-wifi-tether-blocked.html
Seems like GB has a built in wifi/hot spot thats taking over control of the avail network.
So far i havnt come across a fix
Also tried Open Garden to no avail
----------------------------------
EDIT: Update in post #7
Anyone find anything for a work around?
Im thinking about going back to Froyo
Anyone get wifi tether working?

Can you link me to what you used?
And are you on the stock ROM, just rooted?
GOT IT WORKING!
I followed these instructions after installing the wifi-tether beta 6

OK, got it to work.
I used the latest android-wifi-tether (beta 6). In the settings go to "Device Profile" and change it to Motorola Droid X, then connect. After you connect toggle the Pro into airplane mode and toggle it off again. You should be able to surf and will not get the "Verizon" pay wall. I know its one added step, but it's a whole lot easier and cheaper then paying $20+ more a month...

a bit late, but anyway in my droid pro stock rom there is a stock application named 3G Mobile Hotspot. it is exactly for tethering.

Yes you are correct. But with Verizon you have to pay an additional, I believe, $20 a month for the built in feature.
If you're rooted there are apps put there where you can do it for free at your own risk.
I did find a solution to the problem a week or two ago. But last Friday I upgraded to the Razr. And will have to find a work around for that phone haha.
So wifi tether isnt working for me and i went to the toggle for blazer 1.7 and pressed hotspot and it took me to the sprint hotspot, just wanted to know if i will be charged? shouldnt it of come with a " check to agree to terms" or something? or is the sprint hotspot hacked for blazer 1.7 ics domination?

you won't be charged.word on the street is if you just got the phone it will work for you for a while.then it will stop. they will not just add tha charge on. instead you will get a failure message. It will say something like registration error give it some time. unless of course they found a hack and included it w/ blazer but as far as I know they have not found a hotspot hack yet
isnt thier a hack though?

I assume your using this?
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
If so make sure device profile is samsung galaxy nexus CDMA or gsm dont matter.
No encryption. And uncheck the box at the bottom that says disable wake lock. Should work for ya
I was using wifi tether on my gs3 and had little luck getting it to work well. I'm on Blazer 1.6 currently.
Even foxfi wouldn't work.
The stock app worked for a few days, but Sprint gives it to you for free to get you to like it, then turns it off.
But today I searched for wifi tether in the play store (eventhough it was already installed on my phone) and noticed there was an available update. I updated and now there is an option for galaxy s3 in the device profile. It wouldn't work until I checked the box that says "wifi driver reload". Now it is finally working as well as it did on my evo 4g!
CM10 appears to be the only rom that actually solves the problem by unlocking the native sprint hotspot app.. all other roms still require a third party app and/or work around.
Yeah, tft is right. I'm on Blazer 1.7 and have to use an app called WiFi Tether but works fine.
See qbking66's videos on YouTube on how to do it, think that's where I found out how to do it.

There's a new version 3.2 beta 1 with Galaxy S3 Support. I also select Routing Fix(dont know what it is but works).

Just out of curiosity, will the native hotspot in your 7.3 make me have to sell my firstborn to Verizon? I have a data plan but didnt pay for the hotspot plan and was hoping rooting was a way to get around that.
Rooting will bypass any VZW nonsense.
I ran Andy's BoneStock ROM for a bit and native worked fine
Hawk's ran Barnacle and native fine
I'm running Viper now and it's dicey with either, sometimes they work sometimes not.
YMMV

No you don't have to pay anything extra to Verizon to use the Hotspot in my roms.
You will still be subject to the data limit that your plan carries though.
Meaning, you can't use 10GB's while tethering if your plan is only for 2GB's of data.
You will be charged for anything you use above your limit.
Since rooting, I have been unable to use the native Hotpot or any of the tethering apps which requires root. Has anyone found a solution for tethering?

on my m8 running viper....I just changed a value in the default.xml file (there was a few versions that forgot to enable the native hotspot for free)....that did the trick....I don't see why it would be terribly different on the m9 if you are S-Off, unlocked and rooted.
You stock or running Viper?

I'm pretty sure the issue here was over debloating... .. the stock tether guard doesn't like being frozen or removed before it's disabled in the xml policy. To be honest.. even after disabling tether guard support I always leave the app remain.
We will know more when the OP gets back home from his trip.
Stock rooted here and it works fine.
Not having root, I still haven't found a way to use the built in hotspot--however--if you disable tethering guard, you will be able to use the built in Bluetooth tether. The major downsides being only being able to connect to one device at a time and download speed is right around 1 mbps.

Yeah, I was googling for a while...
So I tried Foxfi and it didn't work, said it was unable to use wifi tether on new updated system (something like that). But then I looked at other apps to try in the Play Store and saw "Free Tether Unlocker". It only had a 3.5 star rating but I figured why not try it. IT WORKED!!! Was still able to send a text and make a call too.
So anyone on a Verizon device who needs to get wifi tether working, just use Free Tether Unlocker and then Wifi Tether Router and that should do it!
