Got the phone yesterday. Can not understand why wifi keeps turning it self off. I have it set to never sleep in the settings.

Wi-fi sleep policy?

I've heard arguments from both sides, but I've always been under the impression that the phone uses less battery while connected to wi-fi, and therefore the sleep policy should be set to "never".
Am I wrong on this?

If you're in an area with a wifi connection then yes, using it and setting it to never sleep conserves more battery. It uses less energy than the 3G radio

Be careful because I've had my device fail to go into deep sleep because of WiFi being on the entire time (not charging). Drained the battery a lot more quickly than 3G + deep sleep.
I always set mine to never sleep and never had any problems.

WiFi that won't stay off

Anyone else having trouble with there WiFi not turning off? I turn mine off, lock my screen and then the next time I unlock my phone the WiFi is back on.

Sprint automatic connection, under mobile network/auto connect uncheck it.
Ok thanks man. Does you phone go into roaming a lot? Mine does, I had the OG Evo and it was never a problem but this new phone seems like it's always in roaming. I have already done a PRL update multiple times.

I turned my roaming off, you should try and changing your modem.

Does Wi-Fi calling always disable when phone deep sleeps?

It seems Wi-Fi calling disconnects when i leave my phone unused for a period of time. I'm thinking it disconnects when the phone deep sleeps. It usually takes 30 secs or so to reconnect.
This seems to happen on the 4 or so roms I've used in the last 4 or 5 months, but currently I'm using superbeast and TWRP recovery.

It's probably because your wifi is disconnecting when your phone sleeps. You need to change your wifi settings to keep wifi on during sleep.

i just double checked...It's set to always stay on. And it's not the Wi-Fi that turns off, just Wi-Fi calling.

I ended up turning my wifi calling off cause I can't ever hear anyone when it's on. This is the only phone I've ever had a problem with it on. As far as yours disconnecting when the phone sleeps, I have seen it before a few times but it usually reconnected immediately so I'm not sure if it's an ICS issue or what

Mine randomly turns itself off. It's done so about 3-4 times in about as many days. For instance, I went to bed last night, with it on (I always leave it on, in fact) and this morning it was in the off position. Not just "not connected" but completely switched off. Anyone elses' phone do this?
Disable the preinstalled "AT&T Smart Wi-fi" app. I don't know if it's supposed to, but it turns off your wifi while the phone screen is off and the phone is idle. I disabled the app in Settings > Applications > All > Uninstall Updated > Disable and have not had the problem since.
I seem to be having this issue with my 5GHz network but not my 2.4GHz network. AT&T Smart Wifi is already gone.

WiFi not reconnecting

I leave my WiFi on at all times. I only have WiFi access at home, so when I'm at work I leave it on but am not connected to anything except the cell network. My typical day is about 10 hours at the office. When I get home, occasionally I will reconnect to my own WiFi but most days it will show my network as available and that my password is saved, but I have to toggle WiFi on and then back on before it will auto correct. Trying to manually connect from the network list doesn't connect either until toggled off and on.
Over the weekend, I can leave for several hours and reconnect without any issue. Seems to be something with the extended time away during the workday that causes the issue. Is anyone else experiencing similar or have suggestions on how to fix this issue?

Had that happen to me too. Turned airplane mode off and back on, reconnected right away.

Just toggling the WiFi off and on seems to resolve it, so it's not an overly huge issue. Just would be nice if I didn't need to toggle at all and it would auto connect as my previous phones had done.
