Hello everyone,
I used G2 in China and My G2 have signal loss problem while call. Calls often break down and the signal strength bar shows no signal at all ( with a X on it). But this situation just last a few seconds. Then the signal strength bar shows very good signal strength, and I can make calls again.
I tried CM6, CM7, virtuous ROM and Desire Z Hongkong official ROM, but the problem remains the same. I tried every RADIO I can find, but the problem remains the same. I tried to match the RIL files to the Radio with approach from below thread, but still, the problem remains the same. BTW, some G2/Desire Z users in China meet the same problem.

I have an HTC Desire Z (originally from Bell network (Canada), but unlocked and running on Rogers network). I rooted it and have ClockworkMod running (love it).
Right now I am on the Ultimate Droid 3.3.0 ROM. It's very speedy.. great ROM so far.
I have noticed that when the phone is idle for a while, (I dunno, 30 minutes or more?) I will miss calls without the phone even ringing. Then when the caller leaves a voicemail, it doesn't notify me that a voicemail is waiting. So I wouldn't have any clue of these calls.
After a little research, I noticed some people talking about radio, etc. I don't know much about radio, but am wondering if this could be causing my missed calls and voicemail notification. I remember on the stock Bell ROM, I was getting VM notifications but don't really remember if I missed many calls.
Anyway... first question: Does radio have to do with this idle missed calls situation? or maybe even the voicemail notification?
Second question: When you flash a custom ROM, does it update radio at the same time? (I'm thinking no... but just in case.. what the heck do I know anyway).
Third question: There's a great post on here where someone tested a bunch of Desire Z radio images and zipped them up nicely and also provided the img's. Does each one represent a geographical area or system? How does one determine which is the best for their phone (if it is even necessary?).
Thanks very much. I'll shut up now.
Oh wait.. here is my HBOOT info, in case that is helpful. Thanks!

***UPDATE: To the first question...I guess this is a NO for the voicemail notification. I switched to the SensoredBlizzard ROM and it notifies me of my voicemails just fine.
I wish I knew which part of the SensoredBlizzard ROM operates this notification functionality (and whether or not it could be extracted / installed onto my UltimateDroid backup.
(I'm running CM7)
Hey
For some reason, the WiFi signal on my device is very glitchy. It goes from 1 "bar" to 5 "bars" if I move the phone 2cm to the left or right or so.
Other devices in my house do not suffer from this problem.
Are all Desire Zs like this???
I have experienced this in my basement as my router in on the 3rd floor but very rare. It may be a glitch so if you want you can reflash the original rom that your DZ came with
Do you have the suggested radio for your location? This might affect your WiFi radio's performance. Mine is a solid 5 bar anywhere in my home and maybe a 2-3 bar when I am using campus WiFi.
Try to find the correct radio and match the RIL files, perhaps that will help in some way.
Hi,
obviously I am new to this forum (yes, I admit it, I had an iPhone 4 until recently ). I read a lot of threads here and managed to root two HTC Desire Z phones thanks to the many helpful infos here! I even had to debrand the 2nd Desire Z, because it was a Vodafone branded phone, using a Goldcard, which worked like a charm.
Now everything seems to be fine so far, except some little occasional hickups:
One is, that my battery seems to drain pretty fast when I am downloading something over my Home-WiFi. It can go down over 40% within two hours.
The second is, that every now and then, the phones do not find my WiFi broadcast automatically. I have to go into settings, access points and then manually select the WiFi and hit confirm on the next screen popup showing the MAC-address amongst other things. Most of the times all I need to do is switch my phone on to get the connection. But sometimes it just doesn't...
Both phones are running the Virtuous v2.0.0 (Vision), which is based on the latest 2.42.405.2 release from HTC.
In addition I manually flashed the radio to 12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M using the image from this thread, since it still had the really old radio (26.03.02.26_M) from the downgrade process to the 1.34 firmware installed and this radio seemed to be the one officially released by HTC in connection with the latest 2.42.405.2 firmware.
So now I am wondering if this was the right choice.
I've run across threads claiming the .30 radio (and probably another radio starting with 26.08 or so ?) would be a good combination with the Virtuous v2.0.0. But I am wondering why one should use an older radio. And I don't want to try out many different radios for the next days, so I am hoping, that maybe somebody here has already gone through that process or can at least elaborate on their experiences with the radio they are using.
Maybe someone can also shed some light onto the question, if I should also align my RIL as discussed in this thread.
Thanx in advance!!!
Tronar

Really? Noone? No recommendations from the experts or opinions from happy or disappointed ROM and Radio user?
The radio depends on your location. Best to ask someone from your country about the better radio to use.
as for me, i do not like the new radio, as the data connection is sluggish, as compared to the older ones.
The best radio to use would be the one that was RELEASED with the rom. The one that ends in .03.
The data connection is definitely different with the .03, because before my phone usually showed 3G on a regular basis and switched to H only when I caused some data transfer (e.g. browsing or requesting data through a Widget). Now my phone constantly displays an H (unless I am in a G only region of course).
Question: did they just change the way the connection is displayed or did they also change the switching between regular 3G and HSDPA? I think I read somewhere that the switching preserved battery in the long run, because maintaining an H connection requires more power than a simpler 3G connection. Does anyone know something about that?
Hi,
first of all: I am also using Virtuous v2.0.0 (Vision) in combination with the latest radio (26.10.04.03) on my DZ.

I also have to manually disable/enable my wifi to connect to any network, but only after a reboot. Since I do not reboot frequently I do not care.
In general the 26.10.04.03 radio works best for me (in Germany) - I have good coverage and a stable 3G connection. My battery is also fine with this radio. But as it was said previously YMMV.
Are you using any software which could interfere with the wifi state? For example I am using "UnlockAtHome" which for some reason tries to put the Wifi to sleep when you are not connected to a whitelisted network and the screen is turned off - something like this could cause wifi connection drops.
Okay, so I decided to spend my weekend solving my girlfriends HTC Desire problems. It was basically 2 things that were bothering her - lack of space to install apps and fluctuating carrier signal.
The first one was easy - I was able to root her T-Mobile (Germany) branded Desire with unrevoked and did the whole ext partitioning thing, etc. etc.
Our second problem however persisted - gsm signal from her phone will randomly completely vanish causing her to miss calls, sms, etc... unfortunately - this happens quite often. The weird thing is that she can initiate the call herself and then the signal will return for a few minutes, but vanish again afterward.
Its not her SIM or the carrier - I tried it in my phone and it works fine and my SIM in her phone also experiences the same problems.
I tried installing different latest ROMs like GingerVillan, SuperNova, Sandvold's ICS BETA, etc. It doesn't help whether its 2.2, 2.3 or 4.0.3. Yes, with full wipes in between.
Her Radio was 5.11.05.27 and I tried updating it to 5.17.05.23 - but no change. Still the same problem.
I was also playing with the phone menus accessed by *#*#4636#*#* trying to set my network to GSM only. This also didn't give a permanent solution.
Any ideas what else I could try? Different older Radios? Would messing with RILs help?
Should I try flashing the complete RUU package? Which one? I'm still S-ON... I'm not really sure what else I could try - kernel changes with ROMs anyway. Would changing the Hboot make any difference at all in that department - its probably the only thing that stays the same (0.93.0001) but I'm not sure if it has anything to do with cell signal?
Pls help - any ideas? I find it difficult to believe it could be a hardware problem - because again if she initiates the call then the signal comes back. But if somebody calls her she might be unreachable and it goes straight to voicemail. Sometimes.
